The property is dusty in the front areas, and no Airconditioning in the lobby and dining areas. A lot of time was waisted waiting on the lift.
The conference room was below average and meals were the same every day even though we requested changes. The staff was hospitable and helpful as possible.
The property was something special in its hay day for sure. Carvings, engravings and decor are impressive.

King Sol makes you feel at home while in Honiara. Conveniently located in town centre, allows you to explore all that Honiara has to offer. The housekeeping and restaurant staff in particular are friendly and do an amazing job. Also...the BEST pizza in the Solomon Islands!

I have very mixed feelings but all things considered, I would stay there again. First the good: [email protected] is great. Keren, the tour operator, picks you up and drops you back there. I used her to go snorkeling on the sunken wrecks, all around the WW II sites, and for my return to the airport. She provided a small lunch, water, but most of all, trustworthiness. I could not recommend her any higher.
Back to other hotel positives: bed, micro, fridge, teapot, and A/C all excellent. Pizza and fish and chips in restaurant great.
Now negatives: as unique as the tram to your floor is, it's slow. It's a very old hotel, hanging on as best as it can. The price is much cheaper than most other hotels in Honiara. First room had terrible A/C and when I asked to move, no problem. The only internet is down in the lobby with no A/C. Same as restaurant. You can pay extra to have internet in your room, but I find that petty and annoying. There was no hot water in the room, and the shower had a constant drip. No breakfast included, nor do they have airport pick up, but the airport is well organized and you know the fare before getting in the taxi. No bottled water was in the room, and the reading lamp above the bed was missing the bulb. Like I said, for all things considered, I would stay there again, knowing it's an old hotel with quirks, is safe, has good food, restful sleep, and an excellent tour guide, Keren. Be tolerant and save money here.

Cable car broke. No lifts. No coffee after rhe first day. Expensive food and not so edible. Ants cockroach. Towels not changed. Bed covers the same for three days. I will not use this hotel again. You should take it out of your lust.

We stayed for 4 nights. The place is more cheap and cheerful than luxurious, but the bed was comfy and the room was adequate for our needs. A few things needed fixing, but they gixed them quickly. And the food was really good, especially the wood-fired pizza.

How to really rate this hotel because it is in a surprisingly disappointingly dirty country period the Solomon people are great, but the roads
suck, infrastructure run down, the entire island wherever the population lives isn't trashed dump. Not much tourism in the island, is no one does anything to promote it. They do not have shuttle service free or otherwise to the airport comma so you might want to hire a taxi.
The property needs renovation, and when asked about electric convertors since they have no US receptacles. So until I could get to a hardware store to buy some, I used the base of the coffee pot to put my phone charger into. The prongs out of my male plug fit into the coffee maker base just ducky. It worked. But wifi is only free in the lobby.
And there is no elevator. Instead since it is built up a hillside, they have an old Australian cable car. How cool is that * Convenient location and a lot of things and places period

Compared to other accommodation this was affordable, comfortable and safe. Close to town. Nothing fancy but did the job and felt like a genuine Honiara experience

Rickety and unpredictable cable car system to reach room, can of bug killer comes in room, no towels, tv and safe in room never worked and never got any attention despite 3 requests. Couldn't get coffee because the woman who works the coffee maker was out sick!
Not at all like the photos on line. Never again.

Overall pleasantly surprised with my stay. Yes, there are bugs. But it's the tropics. Hardly the hotel's fault.
But I wanted to directly address two of the most common negative complaints I read in several online reviews.
Wi-fi. Good wi-fi is available everywhere on the property. The confusion comes from what's free and what isn't. Free wi-fi is only accessible from the reception area. It's slow and often drops. But saying the hotel's wi-fi sucks or isn't available in the rooms is flat out wrong. There is a very fast paid wi-fi option that is accessible everywhere, including the most remote rooms. Connection was stable for my entire 3-day stay. Paid wi-fi rates are quite reasonable, and you pay less per day the longer you stay. A one day wi-fi pass is 6.50 USD. A three day pass is 5 USD a day.
Cablecar. The hotel is built into a steep hillside with the lobby at street level and the rooms above the lobby in several tiers along the cliff. There is a quaint cablecar that goes up and down the hill on a metal track so you don't have to climb the steep steps if you don't want to. Lots of people complain that the cable car doesn't work. It does, but it takes some effort and attention to figure out how to get it to go. Several times I saw other hotel guests walk away in annoyance, complaining how it doesn't work as they begin the hike up the hill to their rooms. I step up and try it and it works just fine. Ask the hotel staff instead of trying to figure it out on your own.

Conveniently located with a nice pool. Room was massive. The lift was working, thank goodness, because our room was in the final building up the hill. The water went off sometimes in the evenings, but we just had to delay our showers. Will stay here again

Friendly front desk, comfortable large room on the "top" floor reachable by funky funicular or 150 or so steps. Some dripping water issues in bathroom, and TV largely decorative, but a/c worked well and room even had a fridge and microwave. Could have provided bottle of water. By Solomon standards, fairly good value for money. Restaurant also good, if service a bit fumbling.

We have lived and worked in the Pacific Islands for 34 years, so we’ve had many opportunities for stays in the various countries of the Pacific. While the people of Honiara are very kind, the city is not as enjoyable, due to the incredible traffic, dusty streets, and unimaginable construction of large buildings from foreign investments. Even so, the King Solomon Hotel was a very pleasant respite from all the negatives of the city. The staff (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, and maintenance) were all very helpful and kind, with each doing their work very well. Next, the price per night offered value for the large bedrooms and housekeeping did an outstanding job of cleaning the room daily during our 9 day stay. The resturant’s food was delicious. (breakfast & lunch) and those working in the restaurant were very enjoyable and willing to help in any way needed. Prices at the restaurant are moderate. The front desk employees would never miss greeting guests as they would come & go. Our room was spacious and included a balcony. The AC worked very well with the daily hot temperatures outside. Again, we are regular visitors to the Solomon Islands…..and we look forward to again staying at King Solomon Hotel!
