What a wonderful hotel! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I was a little worried about what the shared bathroom situation would be like, but there were far more bathrooms than I expected.
We will absolutely stay here again!

Kind and helpful staff. We’d bought some records at local shop The Lonely Crab and they let us take one of their loaner record players to our room to try them out. The bed was comfortable, we didn’t really hear neighbors but you do hear street/car noise since they are located right downtown. Fantastic home base for vintage shopping, walking down to the water, and 300 feet away from a great Tiki bar called Dead Man’s Isle.

This "hotel" is more of a hostel. Very nice, helpful staff. The building is quite old but is well kept and very clean. My fault I didn't read everything about the hotel and was expecting a shared bathroom and shower. It was all good though, like I said, the staff made a big difference. Although I wouldn't stay there again I highly recommend it for people that are OK with sharing a bathroom and shower.

Great location. Front desk everything and morning were great. Room very clean. Good price. Shared bathroom and shower worked really good and very clean. Only issue is front desk at check in should have told everyone the walls are very thin and try to respect others.

I was visiting as a solo traveler for a wedding. I have a cabin room so used the shared facilities, there’s were all exceptionally clean and well maintained.
My room was comfortable, and did what I needed. The vibe of the hotel was very cool and the staff were incredibly friendly.
I had a car, there is street parking a clock or 2 away, it’s nicely located near cafes, bars and breweries.

Such personality! Staff were so personable and fun to chat with. Love that you can open the windows. We had the corner room with the bathroom. Loved it.

Wonderful spot, walking distance to everything in Astoria. Pretty easy to find a parking spot nearby without a time limit. Hotel with shared showers and bathrooms, all of which were very clean. Entrance requires climbing a flight of stairs. You can borrow a record player for your room, and there is a vinyl library to browse as well.

We didn’t mind the shared bathrooms at all. It was a great location and clean and unique.

The Norblad was a funky stay in a funky part of old Astoria. In what appears to be a converted boarding house, this hotel combines no-nonsense basic rooms with shared bathrooms with larger suites with modern ensuite facilities. Across the street in the Astor Building, additional suites offer even more posh. I stayed in one of the Norblad suites and my brother stayed in an Astor suite.
The suites are really nice and seem to each have their own design and style. The Astor building suite had a small kitchenette. Mine had a vaguely-70's vibe. Everything was clean, tidy, and comfortable.
On the downside, the rooms are not air-conditioned, which is only an issue when you're visiting Astoria on a hot day (which we were). But leaving windows open at night only amplified the pretty significant noise from traffic and nearby bars and brewpubs. Even with windows closed, light sleepers in the main building (with lower floors) might need to use the earplugs which they provide in the rooms. Staying in one of the Astor building suites on a higher floor would likely reduce noise.
The neighborhood is packed with beer halls, coffee shops and just a few blocks from the main drag of downtown Astoria. Street parking wasn't a hassle, but my brother paid extra for private parking.
I'll likely stay here again in the future, but will stay in the Astor Building vs. the hotel facility. The suites are worth the up sell and provide a little more privacy and quiet.

This is an older building right across from the back of Ft. George Brewery, about a block from the Liberty Theater where we attended a concert. Very comfortable bed. great coffee at front desk in the morning. Nice kitchen available for guest use. Downtown noise through open windows, but earplugs provided. Staff were helpful in providing access to paid parking a block away which is not usuually available to Norblad guests (this was not spelled out on website). Stairs required to access hotel, which was described on website (no elevator). Defintely a hipster vibe, good if you like and expect lots of walking.

Honestly it was all fine except for parking. They say "Parking Available" but that isn't exactly true. There is street parking, but good luck finding anywhere close.

The bathroom situation ended up to be more of a hassle than expected. The whole building smelled very ‘vintage’… but our room was a whole other level super stinky. Smelled like a man’s dirty socks to the point that we couldn’t sleep, even with the window open for airflow. The bedding was fresh and room was clean. Maybe the room needed extra attention after the last guest. We were only there for one night, so it was fine. I would stay somewhere else next time. Parking is a hassle.

Norblad was unique but not the kind of unique we are accustomed to. We are accustomed to free easy parking- elevators when more than 1 floor- TV in room- A/C- Privacy. Working through 3rd party we were not prepared for the realities of the 'boutique' experience. The rooms were clean granted! Details need to be spelled out in a precise manner rather than being glossed over as part of the 'unique' experience.

Pleasant stay, shared bathrooms very clean. Appreciated the toiletries. Overhead light did not work in room, hopefully has been fixed. Would stay again

Unfortunately when I checked in for my 2 night stay I was told I would have to move rooms mid stay. I tried to reason with the desk person at length but was told I would be escorted off the property. So I took my key and left it at that. Packing up and checking out of my room at 11 to deal with the parking situation all over again and check in again at 4. After check out I left town and didn’t return. It was all terribly uncomfortable.

What a cool place!!! We loved the unique building and creative decor. Very comfortable room with nice view. The bathroom was beautiful and spacious. The bedding and mattress were lovely. Love staying at a place filled with such charm and character, and being able to walk out the door to experience the charms of Astoria.
