The Neighborhood:
Cheddar is a quintessential village in Somerset renowned for its natural wonders and rich heritage. Begin your visit by exploring the stunning Cheddar Gorge, one of the UK’s most dramatic natural landscapes, where you can hike along cliff-top paths offering breathtaking views. It's also popular for extreme sports such as climbing, caving and mountain biking. Nearby you can also check out the fascinating Cheddar Caves, where ancient formations and the story of early humans await. History enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to The Cheddar Man Museum to learn about Britain's oldest complete skeleton.
For a taste of the village’s namesake, visit the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, where you can see traditional cheddar being made and sample local cheeses. Wander through the quaint village, dotted with charming tea rooms, shops, and pubs. For a peaceful escape, walk along the Strawberry Line, a scenic trail perfect for cycling or a leisurely stroll.
Slightly further afield, you can head into the Mendip Hills and enjoy miles of hiking trails. Don't forget to stop off at some of the local bistro pubs on the way! Cheddar is also only 35 minutes drive from Bristol and 50 minutes to Bath. Both of these cities offer a rich historical and cultural heritage with endless tourist attractions, pubs, cafes and award winning restaurants.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of rural Somerset, a vehicle is recommended to make the most of your stay here. Ample off-road parking for 3 vehicles can be found on the driveway for your convenience. There is also free on-street parking in the surrounding streets.
For those travelling by public transport, Bristol Temple Meads is only 35 minutes drive and there are taxis available at the station. Bristol Airport is also only 20 minutes drive.
Other Things to Note:
We welcome well behaved dogs at a fee of £20/dog (maximum 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on any of the soft furnishings or upstairs. If you would like to bring more than one dog, please get in touch.
