About this house rental
Beautiful and fully appointed A-Frame house on the bank of the Trinity River. Relax, chill, fish, play... On the Trinity River! Alpen Glow is a wonderful, pet-friendly cabin that has an extraordinary deck overlooking the river. The railings are see-through with stainless steel cable horizontals to optimize the view.
The huge kitchen is fully appointed. Pretty much, if it doesn't have it, you don't need it. There is a large pantry with many basics. There is dining for 8-10 (if approved; Alpen Glow is priced for up to 7 guests).
The large living room has 30-foot ceilings, an electric fireplace that provides pleasant heat and is stunning to watch, an extensive library, flat panel TV with Dish TV and DVD player with a large library of movies.
The very large leather sectional features a recliner and a comfortable hide-a-bed, so extra guests can sleep there and not on the futon in the master loft, which gives everyone more privacy.
Alpen Glow has Wi-Fi, cable TV and a (shared) land line phone with free long distance. Wi-Fi has been a stumbling block for us here because we've had limited suppliers and options but Fall 2017 we finally got access to unlimited fast streaming and we jumped immediately. The cabin has all kinds of sleeping areas, including two lofts (one is an enormous master loft with a CalKing bed and in-room Jacuzzi tub. Its closets are so large, we even put a twin bed in one of them). There is one traditional bedroom with a queen bed and a twin bed and the leather sectional in the living room has a queen hide-a-bed in it as well as room for another sleeper on the other side of the couch. Yes, it is THAT big! More details below:
The lofts are open, but do not look on each other. The spacious Master Loft has a California King log bed with an organic memory foam topper, wood stove, Jacuzzi tub in room (not an outdoor hot tub; a bathing tub), queen futon and a private bath (toilet & shower; double vanity).
The River Loft log bed looks out over the river, mountains and sky. The traditional bedroom on the main floor has a handsome wrought iron queen bed with pillowtop mattress and a twin bed.
There's a mud room that's great for drying gear. The mud room has an additional pantry, washer and dryer, plus a deep sink.
Alpen Glow has an enormous deck overlooking the Trinity River, mountains and trees. Year-round, this is a favored spot for guests.
There is a shared BBQ patio on the upriver side of Alpen Glow, but the majority of the cabin focuses on the river and guests rarely see other cabins' guests unless they go out of their way.
Birdsong is so abundant, it boggles the mind. There is salmon and trout fishing at the cabin, plus a swimming hole. Wonderful ponds nearby are warmer than the river in summer, and fun for calm water swimming and playing with your dogs.
A log swing and comfy chairs are all around the 1.15 acre lot that is shared by 2 other cabins, each unique in its own right and private from each other, but close enough you can rent all for a large group, as many family reunions in summer and fishing groups in winter do.
There are no other properties on the Trinity River that equal this location. It really does have everything.

Arrived late at night so arrival instructions were very helpful. Although dated, house was clean and had many amenities. Woke up to a beautiful view overlooking Trinity River.

2nd time we've stayed here. This place is great for family weekend

This place has the best location. Easy to swim this river. Short drive up river to put inner tubes and float back down to this cabin. Lots to do! Wish we stayed longer

Enjoyed our visit and exploring the Trinity-Shasta Natl Forest. The property was very nice and clean with all essentials provided. That being said, it is due for some maintenance. The main furnace was not being used. We did not try to light it, so I don’t know if it is operational. There were space heaters throughout the building, a wall unit, an electric fireplace and a wood stove in the upstairs. The upstairs loft area stayed quite comfortable, but the downstairs would get a little chilly at times. Other than that minor issue, we had no problems and enjoyed our stay.

When we arrived, there was a car in the carport. Thinking the guests in the neighboring property had parked there, I checked the lock box. No key. I knocked on the door and two men were occupying it. They insisted they had booked it and the host had double booked. No cell service, so we had to drive 30 minutes back to town to call host. Turns out the codes were the same and the had gone to the wrong property. Owner insisted lock box codes weren’t the same, but I doubt that. Owner kept repeating it was “not his fault” and told us we could go back since the men had vacated. I don’t know about you, but I’m not checking into a place that has been occupied for. Hours before we arrived. I do not consider that “ready.” The only action the host was willing to take was to refund the cleaning fee. So we get it with the bathrooms used and whatever else they did in the house but we don’t have to pay for it to be clean for the next guests? Unacceptable. Filed a dispute with VRBO but they are unwilling to intervene further on my behalf and say to take it up with host. So I’m out a bunch for not occupying a house that was not clean. BEWARE

On the surface, this property has so much going for it. Most of the house is very nicely furnished & cozy. But, unfortunately, there are some major inconveniences… not the least of which is the inability to warm the downstairs. This week (with highs in the low 60’s & lows in the low 30’s) it was virtually impossible to spend any time downstairs where the TV/dining table are located. There are two heat sources downstairs but (with the high ceilings & large windows) they are both completely ineffective. We contacted the owner who assured us that if we used the wall furnace upstairs, the ceiling fans & lit the stove upstairs the whole place would warm up. It didn’t. Several hours later the temp downstairs was still only 58*. Secondly, several areas of the home are very dark & have inadequate lighting. There are also broken light switches and thermostats that don’t work. Next, there was no fresh shampoo or bath soap in either of the bathrooms. You MIGHT find something if you poked around in the drawers and cabinets but most of what we found seemed to be leftover from other guests (semi-used personal toiletry items). It was apparent that the drawers and cabinets are not being emptied between guests. Finally, though the outside area along the river IS lovely, the noise from the nearby highway is a bit of a distraction. Bottom line: this property has incredible potential for being a very nice getaway but it definitely needs some attention paid to "guest comfort".

Group of friends stayed for a weekend fishing trip and the property was great for what we needed. We even caught a few fish in the part of the river behind the house.

This is my third visit to this property and I’ve enjoyed each visit tremendously. The cabin is well stocked with anything you may need during your stay. Beautiful views from the wrap around porch and the river is only a few feet from your door. It’s a great get away and has a feel of a home away from home.

The location of the cabin is perfect. The deck and lawn are great places to relax after a day of tubing, fishing, paddle boarding or kayaking. The Trinity River is a gorgeous river. We would definitely stay there again!

Had a fantastic holiday stay at this cabin. Super comfortable and clean. Plenty of supplies in the house everywhere you look. Very pleasant and comfortable stay as if it was our own home.

We enjoyed the peacefulness and Serenity of the home. On the back deck you can watch all the stars at night Thursday night it was fabulous . The river is beautiful , Enjoying the sounds of the river was so relaxing. We tried fishing on the river and at whiskey lake both locations we didn't have any luck but it sure was beautiful. You will most certainly enjoy your vacation here.

This was our second stay at this property and it was just as wonderful as the first time. The newly added a/c unit was great for the 100+ degrees days we had while staying at the property. The river situated at the back of the property was great for fishing and enjoying a nice cold swim. The only thing that sucked was a constant alarm blaring from the carriage house and smoke was very heavy in the air Sat & Sun. Besides that, we had a fantastic time and made some great memories at this cabin

The location is stunning. The back deck is amazing with views and access to the Trinity River. The kitchen is very nice and well stocked with everything you need. The beds were comfortable but lacked privacy. This really is a one bedroom house with a loft. There is a bathroom downstairs and one upstairs in the loft. The bathroom upstairs had a hideaway door to the toilet and shower which was broken and would not close properly so there was little privacy when using the shower or toilet. Their were two sinks and a mirror outside of the bathroom and a huge jacuzzi tub sitting in the open right in the middle of the room between all the beds. There are three beds in the loft all in the open NOT separate bedrooms as it said in the ad. Like I said this is really a one bedroom house with and open loft with three beds in the loft. This would be great for a guys fishing trip (except if you have someone that snores) but I would say not good for a couples trip unless you are into "swinging". We stayed as a family so it was okay for us except that if you were using the toilet in the loft you could not close the door. The loft has a swamp cooler that you could turn on or off which we never had to use. The downstairs has a air conditioner set at 70 degrees that runs 24/7 and and shoots out icy air directly into the living room. You have no control of the air conditioner and you can't turn it off. If you sit in the living room to watch TV you better bring some blankets and where a sweatshirt. We had over 90 degree weather everyday yet it was still too cold in the living area. We nick named the air conditioner "Elsa" after the Disney character from Frozen because it relentlessly spit ice cubes at all day. On the third day we came home late from the lake. We were tired, dirty, and hungry. We walked into the house and there was no power, no internet, no phone service, and no running water. I drove to another town to get internet service to call the host. When I called the host I was sent to a message machine that was full so I could not leave a message. I sent an email but again we had no internet, working phone, or cell service at the house to receive messages. We decided to leave and drive home. We had to pack in the dark and could not properly clean up so I hope we do not get charged for a clean-up bill. I called the host the next day from my home and he promised not to charge me for the remaining two nights. The location is amazing and the house is beautiful.

Peaceful river setting
This cabin is set on a beautiful river front piece of property. It has easy river access where we could launch a paddle board and swim in the river. There were plenty of comfortable beds for everyone, a nice outdoor table for dining and game nights, and A/C for the hot days. It’s a place to unplug from devices and reconnect with your family. My husband and teenage kids all loved it as did my parents who came for the day to visit. We hope to be back!

Great location right on the river, comfortable home with dream views and all the amenities you need for a very revitalizing stay!

Cozy and quaint
The house was terrific and in a beautiful location. It was very comfortable. Everything was marked very well so you knew what switch operated what. Heating the place was challenging with the portable heaters and no matches to light the potbelly fireplace. I would absolutely stay there again.

Great location
The deck and access to the river was the best part of the property. Beautiful view.
Justin was very helpful and accessible. The place is very dated and could use a little indoor love and attention.

Great river location, poor maintenance
This cabin has some great features but also a few bugs. It's spacious, with a large kitchen and ample room for dining and relaxing. The river access, deck, and yard are completely awesome. Unfortunately, there are some kinks. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable and in dire need of replacement, and the dishwasher was filthy. Worst of all, there was not actually any air conditioning - just a swamp cooler. The listing says there is air conditioning, and the weather was over 100 degrees when we arrived. Between the horrible mattresses and the loud swamp cooler, we couldn't sleep a wink. Families that aren't sensitive to mattress quality and aren't visiting in the heat of summer will probably find it perfectly fine, though. The cabin has charm and with some TLC could be 5-star quality.

The property was exactly what we needed. We had a great time. Thanks for sharing your home.

We were comfortable and well-served staying here. Just before our arrival, there was an unexpected problem with the clothes washer, and a carpeted floor got wet. Justin told me about it immediately. He took steps to deal with the problem, setting up a fan to dry the floor, and in fact installed a new washer the first day. We had several requests during our stay and he was very responsive, providing what we needed. The only downside was that we did not know until we arrived that the place is considered "shoes-off". We had several children with us and were in and out a lot, and may not have booked had we known that policy was in place. As it turned out, because of the appliance repair underway, and the wet carpet issue, we were not required to observe this policy. One more thing: I ended up taking a key with me and Justin was very gracious about me mailing it back. Also, we left a computer charger there, and Justin mailed it to us promptly. As you can tell, this rental comes with a very responsive and gracious host. We felt very well cared for during and after our stay.I highly recommend this place.

Great Place
Great place and good times to be had here. A few things, (1). Access is down a gravel road, (2). Two cabins are also on the property, and (3). There are access steps down to the river.
Highly recommend if just to have a cup of coffee on deck and look out at the river.

Excellent location
Can't beat the location, and the house is very comfortable. Need some additional forks, coffee cups and plates, and the beds could use updating.

Cleanliness issues, not peaceful due to lots of road noise
This home may have been in good shape at one point, but it seems to not have been well taken care of lately..... many maintenance/upkeep issues (dirty walls, lots of dust, clutter, old uncomfortable furniture, dishes and utensils dirty, dishwasher doesn't really work, stained pillows/sheets, dead mice inside). Add to this the fact that the noise from Highway 299 is loud enough to wake you up in the morning and disturb the otherwise peaceful experience sitting on the back deck. I would warn others to consider all of these things before renting this property--I really wish I had known how loud and unkempt the place would be before we booked.
When we arrived, every item we pulled out of a drawer or cabinet in the kitchen was dirty. We had to re wash all the cups and utensils we wanted to use. Many of the plates and bowls were permanently stained. When we ran the dishwasher for the first time, we think we discovered why.... it doesn’t really work so well and is pretty filthy itself.
There was a gross smell in the kitchen that seems to emanate from the dishwasher.
All the drawers we opened in the downstairs bathroom and bedroom had dust or dirt inside.
The whole place was pretty dusty, underneath beds, in corners, and lots of cobwebs on the ceilings and window corners upstairs.
The kitchen cabinets needed a really good wipe down, felt sticky to the touch in many places.
We found bloodstains and dirt on some of the pillows and bedding.
The second and third days we were there we arrived home to a dead mouse in the downstairs near the couch.
Looking again at the photos included with this listing, I realize they must have been taken years ago.... the deck and kitchen do not look the same.
Another good thing to know is that right now (June) the river is flowing so fast and high that swimming is not an option. We did enjoy rafting down the river and found some spots where it was calmer and we were able to jump in and swim, but that's not really an option at Alpen Glow.

River Front Bliss
We stayed at this property while visiting family in Junction City. It was exactly what we were hoping for. We stargazed and visited on the back deck at night, then enjoyed Easter brunch the next morning while viewing the river and the wildlife. The house is comfortable and spacious. The only thing to consider is that there is not a lot of privacy except for the lower bedroom that sleeps 3 comfortably. Other than that, I would totally rent this property again. Looking forward to our next family gathering!
Sincerely,
The Ward/Wilson Family

Beautiful spot on Trinity River
This is a nice cabin on a beautiful spot on the river. Deck and lawn were very nice. Living room is comfortable. Kitchen is outdated but had everything you need. The upstairs is a big loft with separate areas. There is a Jacuzzi tub in middle and very inconvenient. The bathroom door is a pocket door and very noisy especially at night and would wake everyone up. The 2 couples upstairs felt like we were back in the dorms.

Huge house, 15 feet from Private Trinity River Access
Stayed here with my wife and dogs for 4 days, it was great.
The river is right in front of the big deck and green lawn. There are fruit trees if your there that time of year. The huge Jacuzzi tub is awesome.
The living area is giant and the fire place is amazing. The kitchen has tons of space.
The car port area for unloading is super nice and the mud room is great to separate the dirt from the house.
Just up the street is Steel Bridge Boat Launch and huge fishing holes Salmon hang out in them. Its 15 minutes up the quite road.
There are 3 cabins here and you can rent all or 1 if you need extra room for family.
If you need a guide ask Justin he set me up with the best ever Forrest Brizendine at Nor Cal River Driftin

Beautiful place!
They home has a huge open loft upstairs with several places to sleep. It was spacious and more than enough room for 7 people. The yard is well kept and a great place for yard games or just hanging out. The owner even brought us some fruit from the trees on the property!
