About this cottage rental
As you pull up onto the gravel drive, you may be lucky to arrive during the season when the yellow forsythia flowers growing around the front door of the cottage are flourishing and lend their name to this delightful, mid-terrace holiday home in the heart of the Venice of the Cotswolds.
Forsythia is the perfect bolthole for a romantic getaway for a couple, for a family with one child or a group of three adults. The cottage is fitted with every convenience needed for a self-catering stay, from the small but very well laid out living-dining area with its fully equipped kitchen to the two comfortable bedrooms - one standard double and one single - and family shower room.
Head through the back door from the main living area to the immaculate courtyard patio. Here you'll find two rattan-style armchairs directly outside the kitchen, while further up the courtyard, up one step, is a stone bench and a circular table with four chairs.
Ground Floor
Entrance Hall:
Step through the front door into a small hallway where there is a large understairs cupboard with hooks for coats and space for boots. Inside you will also find the highchair, cushions for the outside chairs, and cleaning and ironing equipment.
Kitchen-Living-Dining Area:
This small and cosy, open-plan room has been cleverly designed to provide everything guests during their self-catering stay while maintaining the 17th Century feel of the cottage. The Living Area has two comfy sofas with a gas-fired woodburner-effect stove set on an original stone hearth. At the far end of the room is the Dining Area with a square dining table, two chairs and cushioned window seat, with a lovely view out to the courtyard garden, and a smart TV in the far corner. The fully equipped Kitchen is to one side, with units creating a half-height division between the cooking area and Living-Dining Area. The Kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge and freezer, microwave, washing machine and all the small appliances needed for a self-catered holiday.
A back door, complete with a full set of antique keys, leads out to the delightful, sunny courtyard garden - making it easy and convenient for carrying out food and drinks for outdoor entertaining.

Bedroom Two:
The cottage's main bedroom is a delightfully romantic room, featuring a standard double bed on a Victorian-style bedframe and two windows providing views down to the courtyard garden. Either side of the bed is a bedside table and reading lamp, while behind are shelves stacked with a great choice of books to enjoy during your stay. The bedroom has an in-built wardrobe with hanging space and shelves and a dressing table with a stool, lighting, a large mirror, make-up mirror and hairdryer. We stayed in the middle of town & the cottage was so adorable!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Forsythia Cottage - the location was very convenient, the house itself was very charming and had everything we could ask for, and it allowed us to have a lovely time in Bourton on the Water.

Excellent location cottage was quite comfortable, the stairs were not that easy, perhaps a photo of them along with the other pics would be a help. The garden was nice we just didn't have the weather .We did find the restaurants in Bourton a big let down very poor, and expensive. But on the whole we enjoyed our stay.

We had a great stay at Forsythia Cottage in Bourton. The well appointed cottage provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay with the added bonus of a car space for our hire car and only a very short walk to the centre of town. In fact we didn’t use the car for the entirety of our stay. The renovated cottage provided all the comforts required whilst still enjoying the authentic experience of a 300 year old home. The courtyard garden was a bonus which we would no doubt have made better use of if the weather had been kinder. The only negative was the cottage being renovated next door with jackhammers and rubble being piled into skips - which was just bad timing on our behalf. Communication with our host Paul was great and the images of the cottage were very accurate. The internal steps are very steep as you might imagine but with care my 80 year old mother was able to navigate them. We would have no hesitation in recommending Forsythia Cottage for a great stay in Bourton-in-the-water.

We had a lovely weekend staying in this beautiful little cottage. Perfect location.

What a delightful stay we had in this lovely Cotswold village - due to my phone issues there was a bit of an issue getting the key code but it was easily fixed by calling Bolthole offices. The unit is located on a side street, parallel to the main street and is two doors down from the Tourist Info office - they are a wealth of information for Bourton visitors! The kitchen was well stocked with pretty dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. The owners have done a great job in making this a true "home away from home". Good washer!
We enjoyed 3 walks during our stay - the "trails" around the town are easily navigated and provide gorgeous views of the area. I hesitate to say how many times we went to the Cornish Bakery - but we loved everything they offered - both sweet and savory (beef and stilton pasties) Grocery shopping at the Coop was easy (we were able to eat in for several dinners and all of our breakfasts),lots of places to buy souvenirs and lovely woolen articles. Our favorite dinner was at Fish and Chips - really tasty fish, cooked perfectly and good "chips" - they also offer a great Gin and Tonic with a few juniper berries added.
My only word of caution to possible renters - and I believe that they mention this in their guides - is the steepness of the steps going upstairs - please hold the handrails. (We are 72/74 year olds and in good health, but we took extra care on the steps.)
We so enjoyed our visit to Bourton on the Water!

Cottage was superbly situated in the heart of Bourton
with a very valuable parking space.
It was extremely cosy & comfortable with a very peaceful garden out the back.

Excellent location with parking for one car in walking distance to all attractions in Bourton. Kitchen was very well equipped. Wi-fi excellent. If being very critical, the decor and some furnishings would benefit from modernisation/updating.

Forsythia Cottage is a quaint home, perfectly located for visiting Bourton-on-the-Water and seeing the Cotswolds. Located right in town so everything is within a couple of minutes. Also private parking is a nice win as parking in town can be hard to find during the day.
We found the downstairs sitting area a great place to relax and watch TV after a day of exploring. The breakfast area and kitchen were great for our needs.
The stairwell and upstairs reflect the age of the home -- a bit tricky to navigate and the floors are uneven. We found it added some charm but might be difficult for those with mobility issues.
Kitchen is well stock and the property guide has a lot of information about not just the property but surrounding area. Bourton and this cottage are both a great place to stay.

Excellent stay for a week in a lovely central location. Cottage is characteristic of a Cotswolds terrace house built some years ago but with modern comforts. Stairs are a little bit steep and narrow but not too bad.
Five minute walk from the main high street with shops and restaurants.

Lovely stay at Forsythia cottage for 2 nights. As described it is a small cosy cottage perfect for a short stay in the heart of the Cotswolds. My only improvement would be the master room mattress, as it seems to sink into the middle, apart from that everything was perfect.

This was a few days away gift for my husband’s special birthday. It was truly a beautifully clean, comfortable, peaceful property with everything you need to help you have a lovely stay. It was absolutely ideal as it was so close to the beautiful town and we will definitely return. My husband loved it and we would definitely recommend it.

Great location/Cosy and comfortable
We found Forsythia cottage to be very convenient, cosy and comfortable.
Everything you could ever need for self catering was provided.
The welcome pack was very informative and of help to us, and the welcome treets made us feel valued and was a lovely touch...Thank you.
The cottage was in a fantastic location just behind the main street and in the middle of some interesting shops and restaurants.....couldn't have been better.
This tastefully modernised, yet old world cottage and outdoor space was a pleasure to stay in.
We would stay again.
Good mobility required for the steep narrow stairs....which are a feature of the cottage.
Single bed mattress was on the soft side for me... hence 4 out of 5 for comfort.
Communication with the owner Paul was really good...re keys, restaurants etc....I liked that personal touch.
Overall a great place to stay

Short break in Bourton on the Water
We had a lovely break here - the location is excellent being so close to the village amenities yet still a tranquil spot. We popped out to collect morning coffees and there’s plenty of choice for eating out too. We stayed with our 1 year old daughter and it was great having the high chair and cot provided. Would definitely recommend this for a base in the Cotswolds and hope to return.

The house is in a perfect location, beautifully presented, with a lovely garden and everything you could possibly need. Paul had left us a few lovely treats and a pint of milk on arrival. A perfect weekend getaway for us to recharge our batteries. We had a lovely dinner at the Rose Tree Inn restaurant, definitely worth a visit. Lots of lovely walks right from your doorstep. Highly recommend.

Location!!!!
What a beautiful piece of the world. This little cottage did not disappoint. I fell in love with this village a decade ago on an accidental visit and was so excited to come back. It is a wonderful place that was very easily enjoyed from this superb location.
We had a little glitch with the key code number changing, but one quick call and we were straight in.
Thank you!

A Gem right in the center of Bourton on the Water
This cottage was perfect. The location - on a fairly quiet street just steps away from the Windrush River in the historical center of Bourton on the Water - can't be beat. A listed historical home, it was in beautiful condition, filled with character, yet equipped with all the conveniences and supplies needed for a perfect stay. We especially loved the gas fireplace and the comfortable beds. Guests should be aware that the staircase steps are narrow - use the handrail. We didn't use the back garden - too early in the year, but it looked delightful as well. We did make use of the washing machine, which was great for our mid-trip refresh since we packed light. Highly recommend this place.

A beautiful cottage in the centre of a Cotswolds town
We had a lovely weekend in the Forsythia Cottage, which is both right in the centre of a small market town and, at the same time, very quiet. The cottage is small but well-planned so there was easily enough space for a couple with a baby. The gas fireplace made for warm, cosy evenings. For nicer weather, there is a courtyard with sitting and facilities for drying laundry. We are grateful to the owners for this opportunity to stay in their lovely cottage.

Amazing place to stay
The cottage itself was wonderful. It was warm comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. It’s location however was even better so close to everything shops cafes restaurants pubs attractions all within walking distance but also a great base to go to other villages and attractions. We went to Oxford Blenheim palace, the races in Cheltenham Stratford-upon-Avon and again just short driving distances which made for nice day trips out. Bourton-on-the-Water is definitely a place I would come back to and would highly recommend Forsythia cottage. You just can’t get any better.

Awesome cottage in a fantastic location
This cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. It's in a fantastic location close to the river, pubs, shops and cafes - literally a stones throw away. We couldn't want for more.

Cosy cottage in the centre of everything - ideal getaway spot!
The cottage is lovely, everything you could need or want (including a good selection of books and dvds!) provided - including a welcome basket with wine and cookies! The owner was very helpful and friendly when contacted with queries. All the local attractions (and there are lots!) were within a five minute walk of the cottage, but it's so cosy you almost don't want to go out - just curl up in front of the fire and relax! It even has off-road parking in front of the house, which is convenient. We would definitely visit again.
