Service and friendliness of employees. Dinner very good. Hotel public onsen very nice
Our in the room outside onsen did not meet our expectations. Just a bath in a garden not well maintained. While room with private onsen very expensive compared normal room.

Everything about the hotel is beyond my expectation. Hospitality service are first class and all staffs treat their guests with care. The onsens are nice and comfort. The room is great and large. The hotel is well-decorated. The facility and amenities are superb. The view is also relaxing. I arrived at the hotel late and staffs picked me up at the station. Everything was just perfect!
There is no vending machine or convenient store around the corner so you need to walk around 10 mins to reach one. So I recommend buying everything you need beforehand because at night, the neighborhood is not really walkable.

Highly recommended. The staff are standout super efficient, always available and friendly. The hotel is spotlessly clean and newly refurbished (especially the rooms). The Japanese breakfast was an amazing experience. If we had to do this northwest region again we'd definitely repeat this as our base.

Our stay here was impressive, we had the deluxe family room, which was spacious and had a cozy Japanese vibe to it. The hotel staff was amazing and even though I changed our arrival day like 10 times and we arrived so late in the evening, dinner was prepared for us and we had a private traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. can’t recommend this hotel enough.

This is a wonderful place! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The room was large and comfortable. The food was delicious and extraordinary. The decor throughout the hotel is beautiful, and there are many places to sit comfortably with a view of the lovely garden.

Loved this place. It was a delayed honeymoon for me and my husband. Gorgeous property with so many little places tucked away for privacy. We drew, we wrote, we had an excellent time here. The food was something to remember. We arrived late the first night and the hotel still prepared a meal for us which was incredible. We ended up spending a whole day here. Onsen was a bit toasty for July (!) but we still made use of it and it was clean and quiet
And nice.
You might read some reviews about the fact that this building is more dated. Sure, there is some age that shows but it adds to the character. Overall, a great place to stay with incredibly welcoming staff, amazing food, and comfortable.

Certainly top 3 (if not best) onsen ryokan that I've ever stayed in Japan! Maybe also due to low season, very few customers and we were able to fully enjoyed onsen, resting areas etc. All facilities are new and perfect, staff extremely polite and helpful. Most certainly I'd return for a next time!

The hotel was incredible. The moment I walked in I was greeted by warm and friendly staff, who were helpful in every way possible. Wonderful staff. My room was exceptionally fresh and clean. Comfortable western bed, but in a beautiful traditional Japanese setting. overlooking the beautiful Japanese gardens. The onsen was also amazing! inside and outside.
There was nothing I didn’t like

The ryokan itself was well-maintained and the staff were the most attentive! Everyone, from the front desk to the young man at the breakfast area, all were ready to help anytime!
It would be a dream to walk through the garden during winter but that is just wishful thinking. Perhaps if the ryokan could contact guests about free shuttle trips around Yamagata (Ginzan Onsen, Yamadera, etc.) before their check-in day, that would be appreciated.

It was so nicely appointed, elegant and serene. Seemed like a new renovation of a gorgeous old traditional house. Lovely views from all angles of the center rock garden courtyard. Huge room. Great price. Comfy pillows and comforter. Kind and helpful service. Free shuttle pickup from train. Soooooo relaxing.

After 5 years living in Japan, visiting many places, Homoamino Kuyufu Tsuruya his the best Ryokan I experienced so far : Perfect balance between traditional Japanese hospitality mixed with 21st century comfort and amenities. Breakfast and Dinner in private room is simply perfect as well as in room Onsen. In Yamagata prefecture, it will be difficult to find a better place to stay. Day trip to Matsushima or Mountain Area is easily accessible by car.

The Ryokan is very comfortable and not at all stuffy (as can be the case at traditional Japanese inns). The rooms are large with great amenities. The food is high quality and plentiful. The hosts are very kind. The free station puck up is really helpful. The Onsen is pretty and the facilities really good quality.
There was some confusion over whether our booking included food for our five year old. This was resolved by phone and our son was given great meals and s warm welcome. But if travelling with a child best to check with the hotel directly what's included. Booking.com is vague on this matter.
