Nice & clean. The environment is very peaceful.

This is a true gem. Up in the hills overlloking the ocean. Very quiet. The only sound you hear are birds at day and little frogs at night.
Guest can use the very large kitchen area and living room. Including the terrace and grill. Everything is there. You even get complimentary eggs and fruit. AND there is a huge selection of games including one of our favorites.
Nothing we can think of.

Nice quite, except for the frogs country setting.
Cats can be a little much always hanging around wanting to get on your lap.

The View! the moment we walked in the cottage and looked out over the back deck... we didnt wanna leave the room. every morning on the deck reading and watching the sun come up, or the storms move across the water... so comfy.
only complaint was a grocery closer to the property... but that isnt their problem... it really was great.

Love the views and quiet atmosphere. Fruit trees are big plus 😊!

The property is amazing, we had a King Suite, which was huge. The view from the private Lanai is breathtaking. The owners are super friendly and even came by late to provide us another set of sheets/blankets. There is a massive kitchen, common room as well as a laundry room, which can be used by everyone. They even provide fresh fruit and veggies grown on the grounds - best Bananas and Avocados in a long time. It is very close to Hilo. The bathroom is very spacious as well and everything was super clean. There is free wifi and Netflix.
The road to the property is a little rough, but nothing a good car can’t handle. The fridge in the common kitchen should be emptied every once in a while, since people just leave there stuff there.

The adjustable bed is awesome! Cats are so lovely.

very, very comfortable. nice room, great bed, lovely lanai. Wonderful host:)
Far from stores and groceries. if you do not want to drive at night, be prepared to make your own dinner. There is a huge kitchen in the common room, so you are not limited to the kitchenette in your room.

The beautiful scenery & the quite atmosphere.

Lovely accommodations, including a sleep number bed, just like we have at home. We felt welcome and enjoyed the personable cats that visited us on our lanai. Because the property is in a rural location, we could hear the sounds of the rainforest at night - truly a wonderful experience!

The tranquility of the property, the cleanliness and the size of the rooms were the biggest perks!
I was so happy when we pulled into the driveway to find that the property was relatively "secluded" in feeling, while still being easily accessible from Hilo. The rooms were massive and I felt we could have spent a full 7 days there without being uncomfortable. The restroom was clean and we had a total of 6 bath towels stocked in our room - that's exceptionally thoughtful as many of the Big Island vacation activities required you getting a tidge dirty or wet :), so no hassles with trying to reuse dirty towels at all!
The cats that immediately came to greet us were so adorable and friendly. Twyla was especially drawn to us and we had so much fun petting her on our way in and out of the rooms. The cats never tried to enter our rooms, which was great.
Nothing - I though it was exactly as advertised. I loved my stay here and would gladly come back again given the super limited boarding options (outside of large resorts) on the Big Island.

It was a great location with easy access to the national park. Our room had everything that we needed, and the shared space was great for preparing meals. We will definitely be back!

The property is very clean and comfortable! It’s all covered with green trees, there are a few cats living there, we liked playing with them.
Nothing that I remember

The setting is amazing. We stayed in one of the cottages and watch the sunrise in the morning from our lanai.
At night one only hears the birds and the quiet. We also had fresh picked oranges and longan fruit as well as avocados from the orchards on the property. Location is good for exploring the east side of Hawaii Island including Waipo Valley, several waterfalls (don't miss Akaka falls) Hilo and the volcano.
Nothing. We hope to go back and soon!

The personalization was nice. The self chicken-in process was nice. We appreciated the large quantity of towels. Parking was easy. The friendly cats on the premises was definitely a plus!
Due to the amount of rain Hilo got during our stay, the temperature dropped significantly at night. The location lacked AC and heat. AC was not an issue during our stay but we would have liked to have heat.

This property is beautiful, secluded, and an overall wonderful place. It was truly one of our favorite parts of the trip.
Your backyard is the rainforest where you can find fruits to simple harvest and have growing on the property. It was clean and had great amenities. Also there are cats roaming the property and we fell in love with them. Could not recommended this place more.
We loved everything about the property. Some may not like how secluded it is though we loved it. The nearest town is Hilo which is a 20-30 minute drive one way. It is also on the East side of of the island which is more lush but does not have many of the white sand beaches you may expect of Hawaii- those you’ll find more on the west side of the island in Kona. My husband and I did not mind planning ahead to spend a day in Kona and definitely do not regret staying on the Hilo side.

Mahana House exceeded any expectations we had. Not only were we welcomed by many friendly felines but the property and room were phenomenal. Any questions we had were answered very quickly and anything we needed was fully provided. The property was beautiful and the rooms were amazing. We were able to leave everything unlocked when we left for our adventures for the day without feeling like anything would happen to our stuff. Coqui frogs were very vocal but such an amazing sound to go to sleep to at night. Will always stay here when headed back to the Hilo side of the Big Island again
Absolutely nothing. It was absolutely amazing and way exceeded our expectations

The Mahana House was centrally located to the attractions on our itinerary. The accommodations were excellent, the room well decorated and spotlessly clean. The host was great as well.
The Mahana House is near a farm/orchard co-op and the host provided fresh eggs, bananas, limes, oranges, lychee, and longan every day. They were amazing!
The community kitchen (our room had a great kitchenette as well), commons area, and availability of washer and dryer made this the perfect place for our stay.
If you're a fan of waterfalls, there are several nearby. Seaside cliffs with dramatic waves crashing into the rocks? You've got it a short drive away. You're also close to the zipline parks. Oh, watching the sunrise from bed in the morning was amazing!

The studio room was comfortable and had plenty of room for the two of us. We made breakfast every morning in the shared kitchen and ate out on the lanai. We used the BBQ twice to sear the ahi we got at Suisan’s. Mahana House is located close to downtown Hilo and was a great starting point for a trip to the volcano and waterfalls. We will stay here again!

Exceeded all expectations! Only about a 20 minute drive outside Hilo, which was a perfect distance. Able to get in and out of town easily and allowed us to drive and explore other parts of the island. About an hour drive to Kona and Kohana. Randy was very accommodating and provided us with excellent recommendations for the island.

Peaceful! So quite and secluded; an excellent way to relax and enjoy the island. It was perfect waking up with an ocean view, eating fresh banana from the farm and drinking a cup of coffee. Perfect escape.

Central living room/kitchen was very nice.
Did not not see much of the host the entire time we were there. Never did see one of the two owners.
