The cottage is in a beautiful location within view of Lough Derg. A short stroll down the lane brings you to the edge of the lake with a view of Holy Island. Mountshannon village is just a mile or so away which has shops, bars and a lovely restaurant with a take-away service. From Mountshannon harbour, we took a boat trip to Holy Island where we were able to tour the ancient site with its famous round tower and monastic buildings dating from the time of Brian Boru (1000AD). The island is very well maintained for access and a stunningly beautiful location, as is the area generally.
The heating was adequate, although at times the cottage felt a little chilly. There is an open fire, and it was a nice touch to be provided with a small basket of firewood and a lit fire on the first night. However, it would have been nice to have access to a small stock of extra firewood / briquettes in order to be able to continue to 'cosy' the place in the evenings.
Also, being self-catering, we found a good assortment of cooking pans, etc. but it would have been nice to have at least one large cooking spoon for cooking/serving.

Great location, warm welcome

The little cottage was very comfortable and well furnished. The owners gave us access to a garage with a washing machine and the use of a clothes line. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed.
Our host was attentive and helpful when needed but allowed us privacy to enjoy our stay also.
The wifi is very poor but easily solved if you can hotspot your phone.

It was private and quiet and the location was good
It was a bit further away from mountshannon than expected not within walking distance, views of lough derg obstructed by overgrown bushes

The area was quiet and peaceful great for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. The cottage is good for two people but I think if you had children it would be a bit of a crush because there was only one bedroom you would not get any privacy from the children. The open fire was welcoming and used at night and it was only a short walk down to the lough side the nearest pub and restaurant was a kilometer away. The host was very helpful and a pleasure to chat to. Overall a decent little cottage for two
The settee was ok but got a little uncomfortable after a little while due to its size I think maybe needs to look at a bit bigger one other than that nothing else to not like

My hosts were extremely thoughtful. Took me on walks, took me to the art gallery, and gave tips about walks in the surrounding areas.

The location was remote and quiet; exactly what I wanted. The bathroom was compact but clean (which was a relief as I’m sensitive to mould)
Easy parking, and the host provided excellent directions.
It really needed a good clean; there was a lot of dust, greasy kitchenware and lots of old spiders webs in most of the light fittings. The bed and sofa were both quite firm (aka hard) so there was nowhere soft to relax at all. There was an issue with the heating not working when I arrived, but the lovely host did sort that out very promptly.

The area
The bathroom, shower curtain, mat tiles black mould a much needed clean. Kitchen, fridge, all needed cleaning, utensils badly burnt plastic handles, fish slice was falling off, windows dirty & cobwebs, TV far too small for size of room, nothing like the pictures advertised, nice people & area but certainly needs a 100% clean , bed & bedding was clean.

Very quiet & relaxing. A great location for exploring around Loch Derg.
Loose handles on some of the saucepans provided made us a bit concerned re scalding if they gave way.
Shower could have been a bit cleaner... mould/mildew stains on shower curtain & non slip mat & grout around tray.
