Great base from which to explore Sao Miguel with a car (others also seemed to manage well with public transport; Beautiful traditional family home, made exceptionally welcome by Emmanuel, our host. Breakfast buffet was typical Portuguese/European with fresh rolls, bread, cheese & ham, jams; fresh fruit and yoghurt; coffee and range of teas. Host catered well for one lactose intolerant guest. Nothing was too much trouble for him.
Occasional noise from a bar down the road, but nothing late at night, fortunately
4.5
Breakfast: decent, though a bit monotonic. You will enjoy rolls, tosts, two kinds of processed pork, cheese, two jams, yogurts with wheat cereal, tea, and coffee. If you are not satisfied, Mr Emanuel, the owner of the accommodation will let you avail from his kitchen and cook what you wish. The facility itself is an old climatic house where you will live with the owner's family, and even participate in their life. It adds to a specific atmosphere of a rural settlement, not as heavily populated with tourists as Ribeira Grande or nearby Porto Formosa. Ribeirinha is perfect to feel the scent of provincial local life. The place is surprisingly well communicated with the rest of the world by public busses. Vila Laura may be used as a good hub to visit the north-eastern part of Sao Miguel with Furnas, Nordeste, Maia, Caldera Velha, and walking trails around Lomba de Maia being "must see'' elements of the island. if you wish to catch an early bus, just ask Emanuel to provide you with some food before the scheduled breakfast time. But be aware that the bus may pass the bus stop even 10 minutes before the scheduled time leaving you upset.
Common space: you may enjoy eating in the garden.
Room service and perfect cleanness of the facility.
Bikes offered without extra charge. The bike I used had dead gear but brakes were perfect (very important on Sao Miguel)
Good wifi signal
On the last day of the stay, we were offered cozido with an abundance of local meats. undoubtedly the best meal on our Azorean way (no extra charge).
On the first night our room was still occupied, and we were given a substitute room in the basement - not bad actually, with a private bathroom - and compensation in the final price was applied.
Description of the facility needs some modification. The pool (I would say rather a big bathtube) was out of order. The object is not beachfront. The distance to the beach (actually a rocky bay with oceanic waves, perfect for jumping or snorkeling) called Porto do Santa Iria is 1,7 km, but Emanuel's free bike eases the access to this scenic place.

The breakfast was very nice and the host very welcoming and accommodating. Rooms were cleaned every day, fresh towels and beds made.

I can't say enough about this host. Please, do yourself a favour and go here. The hospitality is beyond just an amazing breakfast. They are friendly helpful and treat you like olf friends. The home is near an aqua duct so you drift to sleep with the sound of water, comfortable beds, really clean and private bathroom. I will be back!

Peaceful. Easy to park. Had character. Nice, helpful owner
Uncomfortable bed. Everything creaked… bed, floor, stairs, chairs!

Location, very authentic and beautiful home with helpful host.
Shared bathrooms , but we were the only guests so it wasn’t an inconvenient.

We could postpone the check in without any problem
First thing I have seen was a dirty glass.
The room is noisy and the bed is not comfortable and we can hear every our moving, so I could not sleep well.
The house smells bad and all of the stuff is very old, something is broken or it is not clean.

Location was perfect for us - local environ with easy access to the road network. The Host is extremely attentive and friendly . A good continental breakfast with plenty of it. The house itself has plenty of charm and space both inside and out. Absolutely perfect for those who wish to explore the local street life and island. Highly recommended for these reasons and many more. We will definitely return. Note: - you will benefit greatly from a hire car.
Nothing.

super friendly and helpful host which makes the place feel homey
. Nice spacious rooms and a big kitchen and dining area!

- great breakfast.
- very helpful owner if you have any questions or need recommendations.
- fully-equipped kitchen is available for guests to use, which we used to make dinner a few times.
- they let us do our laundry there, which was very helpful for us.
- far away from the touristy areas and a much more local & authentic vibe which we prefer (it also means that I wouldn’t suggest staying here if you don’t want to rent a car or a moto as it’s more remote).
If you’re a light sleeper, bring ear plugs.
- the home is older, making it pretty noisy (you can hear people walking around, in & out of their rooms, up & down the stairs)
- there’s a rooster and a dog outside that make a lot of noise.

Emanuel the host is in general trying to do an honest amd good job only he is perhaps missing the concept
Not many things in the description of this accommodation is matching the reality and this is where Booking.com responsibility also comes in.
It is not a beachfront location this could be an easy check for booking also.
Private shower is where we were let down the most. We really needed this for sanity with my wife being 6 months pregnant and even though we have booked this option it was not actually available with the room. Don’t expect a lot of sympathy as the host said it is our problem if this is not good for us. Not what you expect with a pregnant person.
There is no soundproofing and it does impact yr stay. From Rooster waking you up to dogs barking to people casually chatting outside your room the single glass window will not make much difference closed or open.
Swimming pool well If you find your way through the overgrown garden in between the cloths dryer that is fully decorated with the household’s underwear then you'll find a little plastic pool but i personally keep this as a quiet extra rather than an available service…
Balcony there is a communal area (terrace/balcony) yes but none of the rooms actually come with a balcony so again it is not true and the view from that balcony is very limited.
Private parking is true if you consider that the accommodation is in a dead-end street in a village where there is really nothing to see and noone really goes. You can freely pick yr spot any day and time of the year i am sure.
Cleaning i am sure it happens on the daily basis and in general it gives a tidy home feel but on a hotel level if rating it will again score very bad as the limescale is all over the bathroom area and leftover hair at any time of the day.
Honestly if this accommodation was advertised correctly and in a hostel category it could easily score a 7 or 8 perhaps even 9 and the people that are into that kind of experience would leave happy.
Shame on Booking.

The house has many unique traditional design elements. Its is like a museum. It is located in a pretty area, next to a church and a river. The room was big. There is a parking next to the house. There is a sitting area in the garden of the property. You can use the shared kitchen and fridge.
In high season the price for a room is too big, considering it has a shared bathroom. There is no AC, the house smells like an old house. Breakfast could be better.

Very friendly
Two big & barking (aggressively) guarding-dogs.
One of the dog (the male black) is really aggressive.
You must be very cool and fearless!

The type of person you are, will define if you are going to like this accommodation or will be disappointed. If you like to stay in an accommodation, where each piece of furniture and walls are a piece of history, then this is going to be your place. If you can give up some comfort for the feeling and smell of an antique house, the atmosphere of the countryside, you will love Villa Laura. If you are a 4-star plus type of traveler used to the comfort of the business hotels, this accommodation is not for you. This is a real bed and breakfast type accommodation, with friendly hosts who live in the villa themselves. The little town is charming, the parking is easy. A lot of sights are in the neighborhood, 10-15 minutes of driving to reach to nature, hot spas, waterfalls, seaside, cliffs.
Watch out which room you book, some come with shared bathroom. The dogs are separated with a fence, although they bark each time you enter the gate. You might end up waking up on a rooster call in the morning if you are not a good sleeper. The breakfast is tasty, although it can get boring after 3-4 days. The staircase makes quite a noise when someone walks up, you can hear the neighbors arriving to other rooms. You need a car if you stay in the village, the public transport is not that good.

This is a lovely traditional house in the outskirts of Ribeira Grande. It feels like youre staying in grandmothers home - and I think you actually are! The owner, Emanuel, is extremely kind and helpful, and gave us plenty of recommendations and planned out itineraries for us. Breakfast is good. All the amenities. Great price. Highly recommend - this is a great home base for traveling around the island with a car.

The owner is very helpful and friendly. The house has very nice atmosphere, but the wooden floors can be litlle bit noisy. Very good breakfast. We recommend.

This location in Ribeirinha is convenient and perfect!! So close to gorgeous countryside, scenic walks, and Caldeira Velha. There’s also a little grocery store and bus stop nearby. The host/owner was also very kind and generous, and his accommodation is pet friendly so I was able to bring my small dog along. I really enjoyed my stay.
