It’s character
Booked early as wedding guests so would have preferred to stay in the main building. No mirror when drying hair. Breakfast was adequate but scrambled eggs were not made from fresh eggs but probably reconstituted eggs.
Many issues in the marquee probably due to lack of staff. Little choice at the bar, room very cold in the evening.

The hotel was lovely and close to an event we were attending. It was clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and the full breakfast was nice too. They offered full breakfast, cereals, toast, jams, pastries etc I think the selection of pastries could be improved but there was plenty of food to choose from. Beds were big and comfortable. We had a view of the gardens which were nice . We used the iron +ironing board in the room too which was handy. Car parking at the hotel was convenient
The long walk to the room. I think ours were the last room of the hotel, first floor.. it was very up and down to get there but nice view from the window of the gardens

Charming Atmosphere, ambiance and decor, friendly and attentive staff.
Beautiful grounds.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. I have mobility difficulties and I knew when I booked that the guest bedrooms are only accessible by stairs, but the hand rails were inadequate in many places. Some more accessibility features would be helpful, and benefit more than just wheelchair users.

Good location. Attractive grounds. Excellent Spa.
Some abrupt staff. Nowhere to order refreshments during the day. Very limited menu in the restaurant.

Near Chesterfield.
Murder mystery on Saturday evening was very good
Our room was not in the main hotel but in an annexe 5 min walk away. You have the choice of leaving your car and walking along the drive and down an uneven slope or driving via the main road to park near your room. If you choose to walk to the main building and back be warned that part of the route is poorly lit late at night.
Breakfast was great apart from the gluten free toast provided for my husband. The bottom of the slice of bread he was served black. When he mentioned this to a member of staff they became very defensive, claiming it was from the griddle it had been cooked on. Very poor.
Breakfast was placed in one room and guests were then seated in a series of other rooms. You had to carry food back along a corridor to get to your table. Not ideal when it became busy and people were queuing in the corridor.

The property was really lovely with beautiful grounds. Our room was spacious, and although we were concerned about noise levels as there was a wedding going on the night we stayed, it was totally peaceful and quiet. Front of house were extremely friendly and lovely. The breakfast was also really great.
The lighting in the bar areas in the evening were really bright. Some dimmers on the lights would have made for a better atmosphere. Some body lotion in the rooms would have been a good addition.

Breakfast was varied and the staff were very friendly and pleasant. The room was clean and spacious and check-in was very simple.
Altogether a very good experience.

A beautiful property once upon a time, not maintained and so badly run. Almost to the point it’s not safe to be there.
The ceiling in the dining room and that’s about it

Good location, lovely surroundings.
Room was large clean and comfortable.
As a spa hotel with pool gym etc. I was looking forward to a swim and relax on the pool in the evening nut it was closed at 6pm so I was unable to use it.
Room was a long walk along corridors from reception.
Restaurant food was inconsistent in portion size. When I arrived I saw another table with burgers and chips which looked a decent portion, I am vegan, there was only one choice, a curry. When it came out I was surprised at how little was on the plate. The curry was a small amount spread on the centre of the plate with a cup of rice. The meal tasted nice but was soon eaten. I raised this with the waitress and she just repeated what I said. I then asked for a portion of chips. The following night I ate elsewhere. The restaurant experience was generally very underwhelming, I was expecting better for such a nice hotel.

Interesting property with nice grounds and a fab view at the back. The full breakfast was good and the staff very friendly.
It was a nice room but the tiled bathroom floor was freezing cold. It was a long walk to breakfast along the internal corridors which involved going up and down stairs and had many twists and turns. Going around the outside of the building was quicker and the car park was nearer using that route.

very nice grounds to walk around and the hotel is really nice inside and out
rooms were not clean. cobwebs everywhere and decorative pillows look like they have never been washed. carpets also dirty

This is a stunning building and the room I was given was very quiet and with a lovely view of the countryside. It was a very good size and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable!!
The staff were exceptional and couldn’t seem to do enough to make my stay a good one. They were able to recommend restaurants in the area and ordered a taxi to get me there. On checkout, they were kind enough to help me with my bags from the room and down to reception.

The room was quite large and the bed was comfortable. The fixed electrical heater was not working but a temporary one had been installed. The buffet style breakfast was reasonably priced.
The bathroom did not have an extractor and therefore condensation was slow to clear. Some noise from other guests as it is a popular venue for weddings. There are a lot of stairs to get from reception to the rooms or the restaurant

was lovely decorated. staff couldn’t do enough for us
the walls were thin so you could hear the next door. also there was a delivery at 6 in the morning which was very noisy and woke us up

A beautiful place which is well maintained.
The staff were very helpful.
A great breakfast.
Lovely gardens to go for a walk and quiet contemplation

Fantastic staff. Room and breakfast were exceptional value for money.
Bathroom had slight signs of age aswell as windows but to be expected with a victorian house

Nice views, warm clean room, very nice food (dinner and breakfast), great staff. I also booked in the spa - and had a hot stones treatment - great. Facilities inside were lovely.
