About this house rental
This is lake living at its finest (and now with AC). The Cabin on Candlelight perfectly combines upscale cabin interior, beautiful lake views, large outdoor patios, and lakefront complete with a private dock to make your summer vacation complete. Candlelight is located on the northwest shore of Canyon Ferry Lake. This is the high-rent district on Canyon Ferry as it offers a true mountain/lake experience. There just are not other vacation properties available in this highly coveted area. At only 15 miles from Helena and 95 miles from Bozeman, it is an easy (perfect?) weekend getaway.
The interior for the ‘cabin’ was remodeled a few years ago. The kitchen has brand new appliances and the wood burning stove ensures that you have the full cabin experience. We have recently grey-washed the walls and painted the windows white to give it a more modern lake feel. Three distinct living areas allow for groups to easily co-exist. The main unit is comprised of 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. The 550 square feet ‘anchor’ has a fantastic view of the lakefront inlet but bear in mind that it does not have a bathroom. The bunkhouse (900 square feet) above the garage also does not have a bath. One shower you ask? Remember, this is lake living.
Yes, the interior is beautiful, but where are you going to spend all of your time? Outside. This is where the property exceeds all expectations. The deck off the main unit is 600 square feet of perfection. It is a huge gathering place with tremendous views of the private inlet and the greater Canyon Ferry Lake. Just for kicks, there is a second stone patio along the side of the main unit which includes a fire pit, barbeque, and much more room to congregate.
What more could you want?
A few things to keep in mind:
- There are multiple spaces in driveway for toys such as boats/campers
- The stairs to the dock are steep/old and include multiple landings. They are not handicap accessible. There will be multiple warnings heeded to anyone who chooses to rent this property; you are assuming the risk of utilizing the stairs to reach the waterfront. You will be required to sign an agreement that includes this understanding.
- Furnishings may be slightly updated from pictures
- As mentioned, all bathrooms are located in the main unit
- Keep in mind this is real lakefront, not a few minutes away as other listings on Canyon Ferry show
- 10% discounts on stays of a week (20% on monthly stays)
- This place is really awesome.

Exactly what my family was looking for four our vacation

Very nice place with beautiful views.

This was the location for our annual family week on a lake (normally it is Flathead Lake). The owner was very gracious and answered all of my questions quickly and accurately. The house is showing its age and has several maintenance issues but none of them impacted our enjoyment of the site. There was newly installed air conditioning units in the house and above-garage BR which enhanced our week greatly. The area around the house is spacious with ample parking and maneuvering room for cars and a boat trailer. Additional good cushions for the abundant seating on the deck and patio would be a plus. The deck is a prime location for eating outside but is hampered by the industrial grade (read "heavy") patio table that is in the direct sunlight in the afternoon and early evening. The lake is often very windy and rough which limits what you can do but the dock area is deep in an inlet that keeps it protected at all times. Take the owner's comments about the stairs down to the dock literally.

My family came from around the world (USA, Germany & Australia) to celebrate my mom’s 90th birthday. The house was perfect for hosting 20 people comfortably - both indoors and outdoors. The views were stunning. After reading the reviews, I had no surprises. The host was fabulous about communicating with me. This was my first Vrbo experience and it was fantastic.

Beautiful location and accommodations for our family group. We have family nearby and spent most of our time with the large group at their place or on the water. The boat slip was wonderful but access via the stairs is a challenge (unless you're 13!) . I'd suggest walking to the closest public access shore and enjoy the water from there. Great views, fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms never ran out of hot water. Beds were good and each room has small fan for air circulation (bring in the great Montana air) - the main living area has a room air conditioner to use as needed. Neighborhood dogs come to visit, but they are friendly (so are the neighbors.)

August stay on Canyon Ferry
We had a very nice time. Too bad the water was so low by the dock. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Cozy Lake Stay
Very pleasant stay at the property. Plenty of space to spread out — indoors and out. The water level was historically low — OBVIOUSLY NOT THE HOSTS FAULT — so we weren’t able to access as we had hoped. Description of property is accurate and host communicates well!

Fun Lake House
We enjoyed our stay in this excellent location! The house had lots of room for our family and friends and the kitchen was well set up for meals. The deck is fantastic and was a fun place to hang out in the evenings.
We happened to stay during very hot weather, so the place got pretty warm. But the owner was quick to respond about getting the portable AC unit running, which helped some. I would say that regular AC would have been much better—but not sure how often the weather gets that hot so might not be an issue under normal circumstances.
The place was clean enough for “camping” at the lake, but it could have used some extra cleaning. That being said, we found what we needed for our stay and really enjoyed our time there with friends.
The stairs down to the dock were a challenge, but that point is well noted in the listing—it’s not an exaggeration! It was really nice to have our own dock to use instead of having to trailer a boat back and forth. The great deck and private dock really made the place special!

Great place to spend a family vacation!
The house was big with a lot of rooms and filled with everything you could ask for. Its in a very quiet neighborhood. Aaron was great to rent from. He always got right back with us if we had a question about anything.

tree top hideaway
its Montana so we want to be outside. The deck and fire pit area is where it is at. the deck is shaded in the afternoon so you get relief from the hot sun. plenty of room to spread out and have your meals outside.
We loved having our boat in a slip below us with views of the lake. Made boating and recreation easy. It is by far the best side of the lake to be on. Lovely area to go for walks, low low traffic volume, wildlife and birds around you.
Property is easy back into Helena for supplies or pop over tit he Highlander for a night of great food and music.

Nice, big place that accommodated our large family
A flexible big place that absorbed our multi - generational family and all their boards and boats. A no-frills compound where everything worked - BBQ, bathrooms, etc. We had a ball!

Great stay!
Our family enjoyed our stay at this home very much. The kitchen is well stocked and the property is spacious. The stairs are steep as it’s visible in the pictures but with lots of landings and handrails it’s certainly manageable. Accessing the dock is tricky and requires the use of a ladder.
Aaron is a thoughtful communicator and was easy to deal with. Thanks for making your property available to our family!

Very nice home on the lake. Great 4th of July
This is a beautiful home on Canyon Ferry lake. It looks to be recently remodeled outside and inside. The layout is very comfortable for groups - as there are multiple places to stay without constantly running into one another. The home has large outdoor areas. We particularly liked the deck overlooking the lake. There is also an outdoor fire pit in another area - though we did not use it.
There is plenty of room for parking. In our case we had 2 vehicles, a boat trailer and flat trailer for side by sides, and there was still plenty of room.
The walk down to the lake is steep and much care must be taken, however this was clearly communicated to our party in advance, and was not a problem.
If you are looking for a well kept home to just "get away" with plenty of room for everyone to relax, you should check this property out.

Great vacation
My family had a great time at this property. Access to the lake was the highlight of the vacation as we rented a boat & used the dock every day. Easy boat launch at Yacht Basin and plenty of fun State Park "day use" areas like Lorelei.
The weather was unseasonably hot, but there was a window AC unit in the living room and a portable AC unit & fans for the bedrooms which helped significantly. The kitchen had all the cooking utensils, plenty of dishes, cups, etc. Outdoor BBQ was excellent and the fire pit great for smores. The property was clean and enjoyable, although ground wasps did seem to be in high supply. The stairs to the dock are steep and numerous. The owner had upgraded the stairs partially with nice, wide decking.
