About this cabin rental
Lost River Lodge is an authentic log cabin intimately nestled amongst twenty six wooded acres, backing up to National Forest Service land, and overlooking one of the Smokey Mountain’s most scenic wonders, the Nantahala Gorge. Newly refurnished, no expense has been spared in attempting to make this the perfect vacation destination to create a lifetime of memories. We truly want you to feel like this Is your “home away from home.” Whether you are looking for a romantic get away with that special someone in your life, a family looking for a place to create a lifetime of lasting memories, an avid outdoorsman, a fly fisherman, or just looking for some peace and quiet, Lost River Lodge has it all. Located just minutes away from the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), which boasts of zip lining, white water rafting, and kayaking, it is also just minutes away from what has been voted one of the finest fly fishing rivers in the United States. While being in very close proximity to the Bartram Trail, which passes along the ridge above Lost River Lodge, for hiking, and Lake Nantahala which offers boat rentals, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, and paddle boarding, Lost River Lodge is very conveniently located just 12 miles from the quaint town of Andrews, 21 miles from Murphy, and 23 miles from Bryson City, for easy access to all of the areas major attractions. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from Asheville Regional Airport, in Asheville, and a 2 1/2 hour drive from Hartsfield - Jackson, Atlanta International Airport, in Atlanta. (Our personal suggestion, based on experience, would be to fly into Asheville, which is a small regional airport located just off of Interstate 40, and a much more pleasant drive.) While Lost River Lodge is very accessible, a gravel road leads to the cabin. The road was completely reconstructed, and reconfigured in January, 2023. If you are renting a vehicle, an SUV, or minivan would be suggested. Four wheel drive, or all wheel drive, would be suggested, but not necessarily required. Sports cars or cars with low ground clearance may find access challenging. The main roads in the area are paved, however, most, if not all of the cabins in the area, are on private, single lane, gravel roads. There are numerous scenic mountain bike trails to be enjoyed in the area and if you are up for a beautiful, yet challenging drive, on either two, or four wheels, take a run through the “Tail of the Dragon”, which is just a short drive away, as is the Appalachian Trail. Lost River Lodge offers a very convenient location, as well as, the serenity and seclusion that can only be afforded by being located on twelve wooded acres. As you enter the acreage surrounding Lost River Lodge, you will be greeted by a babbling brook, which we have named, the “Lost River”, as it appears, and disappears, under ground, depending on the time of the year of your visit. Lost River Lodge has two bedrooms each with new queen size beds, a loft with a queen size flex steel sleeper sofa, and a twin size roll away bed. It sleeps up to eight people, four adults and four children, or seven adults comfortably. Luxurious sheets and bedding make sleeping a dream after a hard day, of having fun, and enjoying all that the area has to offer. There is a cozy gas fire place for those chilly nights, when you just want to snuggle around a warm fire, with that special someone in your life. The great room, bed rooms, and loft all have flat screen televisions, Direct T.V., and there is satellite internet access available throughout cabin. Cell phone reception is excellent with even the most temperamental carriers providing service on the lower deck. If your group consists of more than eight people, we have a strategic alliance with another vacation rental property within walking distance of the Lost River Lodge that can accommodate up to seven additional guests. When you are not inside the cabin, enjoying the decor and the rustic log cabin experience, you will want to sit outside on one of the two main decks enjoying the “million-dollar view” overlooking the Nantahala gorge. While enjoying the deck, view, and music of the waterfalls, located on the property, toast a marshmallow or two over the beautifully crafted stone fire pit, or relax with a glass of wine in the four-person hot tub located conveniently on the deck outside of the downstairs bedroom. Please note that there are three security cameras located around the outside perimeter of the cabin covering the parking area, front door, and rear doors. These will be deactivated at check in.

Great location. Steep gravel driveway… took us a while to get the hang of getting up the driveway in the dark without spinning out… but we did it! Beautiful views. Comfy beds. Will stay again if we get the chance.

Very nice property. Secluded. Clean and well-furnished. The gravel road is steep but not too long and we had no trouble getting up/down with a 4-door sedan (this was in the summer with only a little rain over the 3 days we stayed). Host was responsive and helpful.

This cabin far exceeded all expectations! The property is private and has stunning views. The fire pit and decks and hot tub offer multiple outside areas to enjoy time together. The cabin is fully stocked with everything I needed, way more than most VRBO homes. While this was so peaceful and remote, it’s a very short drive from NOC and each day we enjoyed the activities around and on the Nantahala River, then a quick drive “home” for a little rest by the fire pit. I will be coming back again soon, this was a special place…

Location was exactly what we were looking for.The host was exceptional . He took care of some unforseen and unavoidable issue with the Jacuzzi while he was at Disney with his family.

Lost River Lodge
My husband and I have always loved the Nantahala area and were looking for a relaxing getaway. The Lost River Lodge was just the place! The view from the deck was amazing, especially in the morning and evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, hammock, fire pit, and the peace and quiet. The kitchen was very well stocked. We had one disastrous breakfast one morning when we couldn't find any nonstick frying pans and tried to cook eggs and hash browns in a regular metal pan. If I had texted the host sooner, we would have known there were 3 nonstick frying pans "hiding" in the stove drawer directly under the oven.😣 The cabin was very clean and the furniture comfortable. The main floor bedroom's bed was a little too soft for us and a bit squeaky, but not a show stopper. The road leading up to the cabin was a bit overgrown with brambles, but passable. AWD is definitely a big help getting up the steep incline. Albert, the host, was very responsive to any questions and even reached out a couple of times just to check on us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thanks, Albert, for sharing your lovely cabin and view!

A perfect hideaway to escape the world
From start to finish, the host was a dream to communicate with. The cabin is clean, comfortable and perfectly appointed. The view of Nantahala Gorge is breathtaking and star gazing at night was a beautiful way to end each day, as was the roaring fire in the gorgeous fire pit. I highly recommend this cabin if you want to get away from it all and spend quality time with the person/people in your life. Thank you, Dr. A! We will definitely be back!

We loved our weekend in the mountains. The cabin was secluded but the views were amazing. The owner was easy to get ahold of and the cabin had everything.

Beautiful and Serene
This cabin is in a wonderful location. The views are amazing. I loved sitting out in the morning and enjoying my coffee in this absolutely peaceful setting. It is just down the road from the Nantahala Outdoor Center and a short drive to Bryson City. The host was extremely responsive when we had any questions or issues. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Just what I was looking for
From start to finish this experience was great. The cabin could not have been any lovelier. I was looking for a secluded place with a great view and hot tub. Got exactly that. And Doc was easily accessible, kind and helpful. Thank you for providing the perfect place for my 50th birthday vacation.

Magical cabin
Best place I’ve rented, by a mile! The scenery was breathtaking, and the cabin beautiful, well-appointed, and meticulously clean. The host was lovely to communicate with- very responsive, clear, and friendly. Everything as pictured. I loved it and will book again as my schedule allows.

Perfect location for Natanhala River adventures.
Great overall property and the owner was very responsive to communication. I recommend an SUV or Pickup to navigate the road leading to the property as it becomes steep at times and heavier rain can leave the road rutted in areas. If you're visiting during any inclement weather 4wheel drive will be a must. The property is 15mins from the Natanhala Outdoor Center, 30mins from Bryson City, and close to multiple hiking trails making it a great location for outdoor activities for the whole family.

Beautiful location! We had a great stay for a week. No Verizon cell reception. The cabin was very comfortable. All wheel drive needed for sure.

owner and hot tub difficulties
The cabin itself was very nice, but two issues in particular soured our experience: our interactions with the owner and difficulties with the hot tub.
After booking, the owner’s welcome letter mentioned that due to COVID the hot tub is drained and cleaned after each guest. The letter stated that if we desired to use it, we would need to fill it. Hot tubs take quite a while to fill and heat up so I sent a message to the owner asking if we'd be able to use it our first night and were told there was a hot water tap near the tub and we should expect to be able to use it our first night.
The morning we were due to arrive, I received a message from the owner hoping we enjoyed our stay and listing check out instructions. I sent him a message to ensure he was aware we had not yet arrived and hadn't somehow mixed up guests and bookings. In response, he stated he thought I wouldn’t be happy at his rental and encouraged me to cancel my booking. I was really confused and asked if it wasn’t ready, and he basically told me my criticality had “disaster written all over it.” When I pointed out his seeming disregard for our plans and incurred costs it only solidified his impression that I was a complainer and “not a good fit.” I was made to grovel, to apologize for having caused offense in order to ensure he wouldn’t cancel our reservation and leave us scrambling the day we were to arrive. Apparently asking clarifying questions makes you “not a good fit” for this owner’s rental and not welcome.
Upon our arrival (~4:30pm) we checked the hot tub in case we needed to take steps to get it up and running. The water was 67 degrees, not heating up, and the level low. We used the provided hot water tap to top it off and left it to heat up. Ten minutes later I checked the water level and the hose was running cold. We checked it periodically thereafter but the temperature stalled out at 85 degrees and stayed there until we went to bed. We were not able to use the tub the first night.
The cabin itself is excellent. The view is amazing; the location is fantastic (very remote – no other people nearby); the kitchen is well-stocked with pots/pans/small appliances; and the firepit and chairs on the deck are very nice. The experience would have been a 5-star event if the owner had not made me feel like I was in the wrong for asking questions, and the hot tub had been usable our first night.

Pleasant Weekend Getaway
Situated sufficiently apart from any other property, this cabin made for a relaxing, private weekend getaway complete with a fantastic view and reasonable accommodations (we had 4 adults and 1 infant). The large patio/porch with a step-down portion and firepit were perfect for enjoying the weather and view.

Excellent Location
This is a very nice clean cabin that is well stocked with tons of kitchen utensils and nice linens. Just a short drive to mountain bike trails, rafting and the entrance to The Great Smokey Mountains as well as Tail of the Dragon. I would highly recommend this property if you want privacy, yet proximity to the mountain experience. Plan to drive where ever you go. The driveway would be almost impossible to bike and the roads are not really set up for biking, especially with a family.

My fiancé and I stayed here for a quick weekend getaway. It's a great cabin in a great location. The cabin has nice amenities, is well stocked, and provides great views. We both like to cook, and the well-equipped kitchen made cooking easy and pleasant. The cabin is appropriately isolated and conveniently located, with a relatively short drive to several hiking trails and to Bryson City. We enjoyed the solitude. And when we wanted to socialize, we enjoyed local spots in Bryson City and Sylva. The steep driveway is paved with crushed stone. Our rented front-wheel drive SUV struggled a little with the climb in a couple of spots. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, it would be worthwhile taking it on this trip. Overall, I recommend this cabin. We anticipate going back for another getaway.

Wonderful Nantahala Adventure
We had an amazing time at Lost River Lodge! Property was just as described and perfect for our family of 4. Very easy and friendly communication with the owner. The view is amazing and the decks give you plenty of outdoor living space to enjoy them. Our family enjoyed a week full of local activities such as: zip lining, horseback riding, hiking in the Smokey Mountains, Nantahala Forest, Appalachian Trail, and fell in love with the very close NOC. Overall a wonderful vacation and the absolute perfect place to stay! Thank you!

Look no further, BEST CABIN EVER!!
We booked this cabin due to its seclusion and view of the Smoky Mountains. It met every expectation we had on our "Must Have" list - cleanliness, a kitchen with everything we needed to cook our Whole30 menu, Wifi and a TV to keep up with March Madness, an outside eating area and a fire pit, a hot tub, and quiet areas inside and out to read or take a nap. Not only that, there were short hikes, a mountain stream, gorgeous sunrises, and a very romantic setting. We LOVED it!

nice mountain get away
Beautiful secluded cabin with nice mountain views. Well equipped kitchen and all spaces are inviting - dining table with views, living room with fireplace, deck with hot dub, large fire pit with more views, ... Only the mattresses were a bit soft for us, but that is a matter of taste.
Communication with owner was fast and very useful.
Highly recommended.

Perfect Family Cabin Experience
My husband and I booked a last minute mountain vacation for our two year old twins’ birthday and we sure did get lucky with this one. The location of this cabin was phenomenal! It’s very secluded and peaceful, especially with the sound of the little river just below the cabin. Groceries, gas, and anything you may need is just a short drive down the mountain. We came looking for snow but even though the weather didn’t cooperate, we were not disappointed. Our three kids had a fabulous time walking down to the waterfall, making s’mores in the fire pit, and relaxing with meals on the deck. The view from the deck was to die for and we really enjoyed hanging out on it. The cabin was very clean and homey. I read the reviews before we booked it and a few said the kitchen was fully stocked. This was an understatement. The kitchen has more cookware than mine at home! The hot tub was perfect and easy to use. Albert was so easy to communicate with and very helpful and gracious the entire trip. We absolutely didn’t want to leave and I almost debated putting a terrible review to try to keep this cabin to ourselves. ;) I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this cabin and experience and can’t wait to return!

Beautiful cabin as pictured
Fantastic cabin for a quick and secluded getaway to the mountains.
We had some issues making it to the cabin and almost gave up. The road isn’t that steep, but leaves and lose gravel made it difficult to make it up the hill. The property description did recommend an SUV or AWD, and while my car had trouble we eventually made it up. Just needed a little momentum to make it over a lip then we were good.
Kitchen is overstocked with every plate, bowl, dish and condiment. The view is spectacular and we spent almost every waking hour in the hot tub or by the bonfire.
Can’t wait to come back!

Awesome Cabin!!!
We enjoyed this cabin SO MUCH! This cabin is way up in the real mountains, quiet, secluded, and the view from the porch is awesome! We had a blast, the kids loved the hot tub, and the atmosphere and seclusion was terrific for a vacation! If you want to get away from it all - THIS IS THE CABIN YOU WANT!!

Gorgeous Secluded Mountain Cabin
Everything was great. The view from the back deck is unmatched anywhere I've been. No neighbors can be seen. Kitchen is EXTREMELY well stocked. Very clean. Be sure to map out your arrival prior to getting into the area, because cell reception is hit and miss. The area is very remote which was absolutely a huge draw for us as it was our honeymoon!

Fabulous
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin. The view will take your breath away! The firepit is fantastic and is a unique style, we loved it. The Ingles grocery store has firewood and any grocery items you may need. The inside fireplace is delightful in the chilly mornings and evenings. Very cozy cabin. Have stayed in many cabins and this one had the best of everything including fantastic cookware. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the evenings listening to the wolves! We would definitely stay again. Communication with Dr. A was great, he is very quick to help with any questions you may have. It was a great vacation!

Paradise
The cliche', location location location, applies here. If your looking for a remote location with an over the top awesome view, close to the NOC, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, Bryson City and hiking, look no further, this is the place. All info on the website is accurate and the owner is very fast to respond, very attentive to any and all needs and awesome to work with. Thank you Dr. A, we will be back.

Loved it!
Wonderful cabin! My husband and I enjoyed the views and the quiet time together. Spending our nights by the fire pit was a favorite of ours. Of all the places we have rented over the years together, this cabin had the best pots and pans ever! Weird thing to say but we cook in a lot and I appreciated the quality of the cookware - not the usual rental stuff. Thank you!

Peaceful and relaxing
We loved our long weekend in the Smokey Mountains. The view from this cottage is spectacular and so peaceful and relaxing! This cottage is beautifully decorated and was the perfect size for us (4 adults) with 2 master suites - one upstairs and one downstairs. There was extra room for kids in the loft with a wonderful view of the mountains. The kitchen is supplied with all the dishes and cooking tools you will need. Sitting by the fire pit in the evening was a real treat. We found the best place for firewood is to stop at Ingles in Bryson City right off of the highway on the way to Topton. Ingles is a nice grocery store with large bundles of hardwood for sale that will last much longer than the wood bundles you buy at a convenience store. After sitting by the fire, we also enjoyed the hot tub on the porch. The cottage is at the top of a hill and secluded (which makes it so wonderful). The road was wet the first day we arrived and getting up the hill the first time was a challenge, but Dr A helped us out and we had no issues after the first day. Don't forget to try Granieri's in Andrews for a nice Italian meal. We were very pleased with our stay and hope to make it back one day soon.

Nantahala gorge getaway
The cabin is located 2500 ft elevation secluded in the Nantahala gorge of western North Carolina. The view is amazing. The cabin is very remote which we enjoyed and it is close to water sports. While the cabin is small(2br) it had everything you needed to enjoy a stay. Some things to know before you go is bring your own food as there are no close restaurants or grocery store. Also, the road is rough and steep in parts, we did not have 4 wheel drive and struggled to get up the hill after a rain. We also lost power twice while there once late at night which was a bit unnerving. We had no cell service with Verizon. The hot tub had a mothball smell which made it less enjoyable. Hopefully that will be remedied. If you are looking for a beautiful view that is comfortable but remote this is a good choice

Beautiful, well-appointed property with a magnificent view. Great hiking in the area, easy and challenging, and property owner provided helpful information about places to fish. Thank you for making your cabin available to us. We would return in a heartbeat.
