Welcome to Historic Shore Cottage set in a fantastic location near the beach where you'll be welcomed by big skies and the moving waters of the Puget Sound. Located on a narrow sandspit, your days will be enhanced by passing sailboats, gulls and cranes dining on the beach just 20 feet from your living room, or sea lions and orcas swimming by in the cool waters.
This historic cottage was one of three originally built back in 1941 as a shack to store fishing nets. Almost all of the materials used in its construction likely came from the supply of discarded packing crates at the naval shipyard in nearby Bremerton where work was being done to support the war effort. Everything here is original, there are no frills. This is a perfect place to relax, read, write, draw, or take relaxing walks through the neighborhood or along the beach out front where you can collect shells, toss footballs, build sand castles, or just marvel at the many sights.
This truly distinctive home is comfortable and rather unique, not only in its origins, but also its furnishings which are mainly antiques from the 1940s and 1950s from designers such as George Nelson, Charles and Rae Eames, and Alvo Aalto.
When you want to get out and explore, a corner coffee shop is just minutes away, while the charming main street is just a bit farther with a grocery store, restaurants, clothing stores, and a bookshop. It's also just a 30-minute ferry ride to Seattle, or you can take the ferry to the exciting shopping, dining, and museums that await you north in Victoria, BC.

Our family adored your little house!!. The sea glass and the shells that's left after a high tide is awesome!!. This property is awesome for taking your family on a little vacation to get away from the craziness that we all love in these days. I am a pretty picky person when it comes to having privacy and safety for my family and this place has all of that!. My only suggestion is that if your looking for shiny and new this is definitely not the place for you. But if your a family looking to get away and unwind definitely make this a stop on your journey to sanity! My family will be back thanks for sharing your unique house on the beach!!.

Really enjoyed the property. The only recommendation I have is different outdoor seating no lounge or relaxing furniture outside

Loved the location, THAT is unbeatable

We absolutely loved the location and unique, rustic feel of the home. We woke each morning to the sights and sounds of the sea. Thanks for sharing your home!

I loved this place. It's just exactly as advertised. Great for a single person who wants to read a book overlooking the water

The beds were very comfy and water pressure was good in shower. The view was wonderful. But the condition of the house - especially the kitchen - was very disappointing.

It’s definitely an historic beach shack but its location and view is unbeatable. If you accept it’s premise it’s wonderful — we will be back again !

This place is a gift. Beautiful views and location. Lots of beach area for kids to play and explore. Just wonderful.
The cottage is clean, neatly appointed, and cozy. Really enjoyed the unique furniture. Stayed warm inside on some cold days.

This cabin is a fantastic get away for those who can appreciate being in a historic rental that is kept in a perfect balance between its origins and modern comforts.

This was my second time here. I came back for my birthday after having twin babies at 28 weeks and they spent 2 months in the NICU. They’re stable, home and safe. I needed a place to recover from all the stress. I had been here previously for my birthday. It was perfect and exactly what I needed.

Right on the water.

This is the most nostalgic place for my family. It’s peaceful, time away from screens, box stores, and just allows you to rest and connect. Every time we’re here we look for property to purchase. We love it!

The house is just ok. Somewhat quaint and somewhat old. Very uncomfortable chairs throughout the dining and living rooms. The location is incredible with an amazing view. Thankfully I brought my own lounge chair for the back patio because theirs didn't seem great.
The place was not cleaned as well as I expected either.

I sent a review 1 week ago!
As we said last week, this property is ideal for us. The Sound, the spit, the whole island feels like our second home to us. Already planning for next summer.

This place was cheaply built in the 1940s and furnished in the 1970s and that is what you are getting. Simple as that. Great location is the only plus. Want more details, see my Vacasa post if they ever share it.

My family of 6 adults had a wonderful time relaxing and watching the ocean in this tiny rustic cabin. Nothing fancy, but the perfect place to enjoy each other's company and the amazing view.

So the location is awesome and could be a good reason to come here. The problem is that it’s not rustic, it’s run down. Furniture is old, dirty, and pieces broken with written notes of how to use until it’s fixed. Lighting is basically lamps here and there; the kitchen is a single bulb. Safety issue in bathroom as there is a baseboard heater mounted at toilet seat height and maybe 3” away. It can’t be to RCW code. Seriously, you need to be careful. It was a bad experience and we ended up leaving a day early as we had just had enough. I hike and camp outside; I’m not just trying to bash this place. But from the torn lamp shades to the dirty broken furniture it was just too “rustic”.

The location was great and sitting in the patio watching the sea lions in the morning is magical and the views at night are soothing. Super quiet here too

We had a four night stay, but left after one night dealing with all the gnats and flies in the house. Also, the shower pipes were not working properly and sprayed water all over the bathroom floor. So, we ended up staying at a casino nearby. We need a refund!!!!!

Spent 4 nites in October with best friends. We planned on all kinds of activities but ended up in this wonderful cottage watching seals, ships and boats and enjoying clear sunny days. No one wanted to leave. The walks closeby are great. Will definitely be back.

We had such a wonderful week on Bainbridge. This house is perfectly located on the water, not far from the ferry and near a park. Most days we were just mesmerized by all the life in the Sound - we saw a family of otters, sea lions, dolphin and more birds than we could count. The house is one of the original houses in the spit. Very comfortable, lovely pieces of art and great books. We are excited to bring the family next time!

Cozy fishing cabin right on the water. We loved watching the wildlife and sailboats and listening to the lapping water. Bring you binoculars!

The property was set in a perfect location for us we wanted to be by the water and we couldn’t get any closer! It would have been nice however to know how to turn on the heat.

Beautiful and quiet location. Interesting and quirky house. Easy access to Seattle Ferry. Perfect place to stay away from hustle and bustle of Seattle, but close enough to visit every day. Enjoyed our stay!

We really enjoyed the stay, the house was cute, the location was awesome, and the kids had a blast.

5th time Staying here
Love it every time. It is where I read and write and rest.

The main attraction of this property was by far the location, just steps from the waters of the Puget Sound. It’s a charming little cottage with your own private waterfront. I would have given this property a five star rating were it not for a bag of laundry left in one of the bedrooms, a damaged blinder in one of the rooms and a dirty pot and dish in the kitchen. Also, it would have been nice to have a large modern TV in the common area. We loved the views and enjoyed our stay.

Perfect location..the house can use some updates and new things. The 2nd night we were there the inside of the home flooded from high tide.

We made it for our yearly stay (COVID prevented 2020 stay) and we were just as happy as the first time we stayed. We love the sound of the waves, the birds and the ever changing weather. We pull up the chairs and it is like watching the nature channel. I couldn't ask for more.

This is a very unique old sea cottage. The view of Puget Sound is incredible. For us it was unforgettable and reason alone to return. Greatly appreciated were the books, the friendly neighbors, the easy access to Winslow and Fay Bainbridge Park. A king bed would be a great addition! This property is on our return list.

My friend and I booked this place as a spot to relax and take some time off. It was so perfect! The vibe of the cottage was amazing and you can't beat being right on the water. You are able to walk in the afternoons when the tide goes down plus see Mount Rainier on a clear day! This place is 15 minutes from the main downtown area, so you will need to have a car.

We were so pleased by how close we were to the beach and water. The open layout and windows/ glass doors contribute to multiple senses of proximity: salt smell air, breeze, sounds of waves and birds. We saw a sea otter twice and watched a bald eagle eat a fish for breakfast. The views of Rainer during the day, and Seattle lights at night are stunning. The cabin feels storied and I loved the aesthetic and book selection.
