About this apartment rental
Please note: we have been taking COVID19 seriously from the beginning. We decided if we're going to rent the apartment we have to put extra expense in assuring everyone's safety and disinfecting everything possible. We have been in quarantine since March 13, not about to blow it now! We increased our cleaning fee to allow for enhanced precautions and there's two days in between guests to do it. Back to regular programming:
Beautiful space fully furnished including bed linens, towels. Parks, culture, night life and dining. Shop unique imports, vintage clothes and furniture. Inside, you'll love the high ceilings, natural wood and mid century decor. We're a short, pleasant walk to the Missouri Botanical Garden, beautiful Tower Grove Park, and a couple of blocks from 14 different ethnicities of cuisine! 5 mins from St. Louis University, Washington University, Central West End, 5 miles from Arch and downtown, we have jazz clubs in the neighborhood, we're 5 mins to the legendary St. Louis blues club neighborhood. Bicycle friendly city, easy to get around. Follow your ears to the music and your nose to the BBQ! Bring your bike. Free WIFI.
Sleeps one or a couple very comfortably or can sleep 6. One full bed in bedroom, but we can add beds to sleep 6, possibly more. Then there is the memory foam mattress on the floor which is very comfortable. We can sleep more if need be, but it gets a little more creative. Just ask.
This is a private listing meaning the entire space is yours and yours alone with over 950 square feet, large rooms and eat-in kitchen. The last two years it has been very successful on the prevalent site we all know, we maintained consistent Super Host status. We came here to boycott because of inhumane international policies and other transgressions. Perhaps you joined us for similar reasons. So although this is a new account here, we are not new to surpassing the needs of our guests.
Hardwood floors throughout except the tasteful ceramic tile in kitchen and bath,.a sunroom sitting room with a small desk for office or study, or enjoy a storm. Claw foot bathtub with shower. Nice French doors to separate the main rooms. Lots of good light. Sit on your back balcony and enjoy our huge trees in a park-like setting and sit with your friends in the backyard at our community table and chairs on the lawn. Living room, sunroom, bedroom, bathroom with claw foot bathtub, eat-in kitchen, small covered back balcony. You can do some warming up of things and light cooking, but don't expect to cook a huge holiday meal. Once you find out about the restaurants, I doubt you'll want to eat in. Walk to the corner, go left one block then right two blocks, and you're in it, a couple dozen restaurant in a 5 block stretch. You must do your own dishes and clean up after yourselves. Toaster and coffee maker, microwave and blender. There are plates, bowls, flatware, all the stuff you need to make a fine presentation of the carryout you grabbed on Grand Ave. Because you're probably not going to want to cook. Coffee shop breakfast joint around the corner even. Free WIFI is included for your devices, but there is no TV. Instead we have a record collection and a vintage console stereo and interesting books to read. Excellent place to get your head together.
Pets are allowed subject to approval, and please declare the number of pets in the section where you declare the number of humans. The site calculates the amount for one animal. Dog owners: there is no fenced in yard, and there is no pooping on the property whether or not you clean it up. We have bags for your walk.
We appreciate you taking the time to check us out and look forward to meeting you. We enjoy greeting our guests, but we don't mind leaving you alone, your call. Personally, when I'm traveling and finally get to the place where I'll lay my head, the last thing I want to do is meet someone, but if you need local info like where the jazz club or fine cuisine, at your service. Accordingly, we operate our business on empathy, and focusing on that maximizes your joy and satisfaction.

The photo shown is not consistent with what we found in the unit. One chair looked like it had been shredded by a cat in multiple places. Other furniture was worn with some stains. Unit smelled strongly of something off. My wife sat on the bed and was promptly bitten on her ankles (only exposed skin). When we came back later, she again sat on the bed and was bit yet again, this time finding the bug on her which looked suspiciously like a bed bug. We looked at the mattress cover which was stained and dirty.
Rest of the apartment was not thoroughly cleaned or fully kept up (wires coming out of one wall, no light bulb outside so almost tripped on stoop that was under construction).
Worst was the customer service or lack thereof by the owner. He was near immediately combative, verbally aggressive and inappropriate. Overall, he was, by far, the worst owner we’ve ever dealt with and we travel a lot. We’ve never had this many issues nor an owner who was even remotely this hostile.
Can we give zero stars as a rating?

Three cheers for David and his place!
Great location and great host. David went out of his way to accommodate us and was a stellar communicator. The location is fantastic and his place has a lot of fun character.

We found the place to be dirty rather than clean as David states.
In the instruction book upon arrival, there are instructions to clean up after ourselves. The last people must not have done that and David did not check either bc we found the floors unswept, a dirty shirt behind the stereo, and food and hair in the kitchen sink. The dishes had to be rewashed before using them and all we had to use was a bathroom rag or a dirty sponge. While the location is very neat and David was available for contact, he did not respond to my concerns of the cleanliness of the apartment. It was NOT clean as he boasts about. Neither did the stereo work at all.

I liked the furnishings.
If you need a place just to sleep, this would work. Nice neighborhood. Not far from good eateries. BUT, it is on the second floor, not good for people with hip/knee problems. NOTHING in kitchen except a few plates, few glasses, few pans, a little silverware. There was a bottle of olive oil, some soy sauce, n a couple of ice cube trays. No spices, no coffee for coffee maker, no dish soap, although you are supposed to do the dishes, I found a little Tide & washed up with that. No TV, record player didn’t work, we listened to the radio. You literally need to bring EVERYTHING you might need for your stay. Won’t be back

Worked out okay but needs some loving care
Checking in was stressful as the owner took hours to reply and then needed to fix the heat first. I think he had other life issues happening. The apt was a nice size with well used furniture that was fine but with a little odor of some sort. Bed was comfy. The coffee maker noted in the description did not have an obvious carafe or brew container, and green mold in the tank so was unusable. Overall is was an okay stay but not really recommended.

David’s home is very unique and welcoming. It was the perfect location for us, with a variety of things to do and places to eat.

Unknown, I have not stayed there yet.
An exchange is pending. Since the owner was unable to refund my stay, there is a promised future stay pending.

It Worked for Us!
My husband and I stayed there with our kids in the process of moving to St. Louis. We really like the neighborhood. Walking distance to restaurants (if you can handle up to a mile, but some closer). The space was good with a separate sleeping space for the kids. The building is a bit dated, but functional. But they really need to clean up outside. Due to the overgrown grass and weeds, it appears to be uninhabited. Decent WiFi. Kitchen was pretty well equipped. Able to easily prepare breakfast and some simpler dinner prep. David was so helpful and gave us access to the laundry area as we packed enough clothing for about five days. You really can't beat the price for this area and the size of the unit. Just don't expect The Ritz.

Very Accomodating
Great old property. Seems to be in a very cool area. Owner had plenty of great suggestions for food and drink around the area but we sadly didn’t get to check them out as we were just staying one night after a concert.

A quiet getaway
This space was incredible to stay in. We had everything we could possibly need, and David was very hospitable and thourough in making sure we were completely satisfied with our stay. The area is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to Branch out of their foodie comfort zone and try some new foods from all over the world! David also has great recommendations on all of the best spots! (: Completely satisfied with this spacious and stylish HomeAway find! We will definitely be booking again if we come back through the area!

Very quaint and in a very good location, walkable to eating and entertainment.
We were in a pinch for a place to stay while traveling and found this space available. It was very comfortable and spacious and clean. David was a wonderful host and turned us on to a nice pub to hear some live jazz music in the area (within walking distance). No problems at all while staying there. The additional fees stacked up and made what we originally thought was going to be a very moderate night's lodging almost double in cost. This was more a surprise than anything. Would recommend this location to others.
