About this villa rental
Welcome to Casa Sebastiani in the city of Sonoma, just a short walk from the shops and restaurants in historic Sonoma Plaza.
What We Love About This Home
When you stand on the veranda of Casa Sebastiani and gaze out over the vineyards below, you are sharing the experience with generations of the prominent wine family who stood here before you. Built by August and Sylvia Sebastiani in 1947, the property is a leisurely stroll up from the acclaimed winery.
Exterior Details
A grove of olive trees and rustic stone walls define the approach and a remarkable profusion of flowering plants create a tapestry of color. Birds of Paradise, trumpet vines and fragrant lavender surround the home, along with numerous fruit trees heavy with succulent oranges, lemons and apples.
The gracious hand-hewn stone home was fashioned after a Tuscan villa with its arched entries, deep porches and expansive terraces. An old-world air of hospitality is apparent in the design and the setting.
The sun-filled terraces and decks that encircle Casa Sebastiani offer views on all sides and the dappled shade of the ancient live oaks beckon for a meditative stop under their tall branches. Large boulders are interspersed with indigenous plants and trees and masses of blooming flowers, creating a natural backdrop for special events.
This is a place that has been connected to a significant part of Sonoma Valley’s history ever since 1904 when Samuele Sebastiani acquired the vineyards of the Franciscan fathers who originally planted them in 1825. From those humble beginnings the winery he founded grew into a name known around the world. Now you can fashion your own bit of history in these splendid surroundings.
Interior Details
A circular walkway leads up to the deep, tiled porch with its stone arches and carved wooden door. Inside a wide entry opens to the expansive living room, which can accommodate a cocktail party or a casual family group. The room features a grand piano and gleaming white marble fireplace; floor to ceiling picture windows frame beautiful scenes of the flowering landscape, bringing in the natural, golden light that warms the vineyards.
The home has recently been redecorated and upgraded throughout, retaining the authentic Italian touches that express its origins. The queen bedroom off the living area offers a relaxing glimpse of the tranquil scenery. There is a small sitting area and a flatscreen TV and a Dutch door to the outside. The bath has a stone tile shower with tiled bench seat, marble vanity, two closets and privacy windows for plentiful light.
A separate queen guest suite can be entered from outside or through the kitchen area. Completely remodeled, it has a stone-tiled bath, bedroom and views of the stately oaks. Upstairs on the second floor are 3 bedrooms: a large king primary suite with a floor-to-ceiling window for private views of the soaring shade trees, and doors that open to a sleeping porch where you can lounge in the shade on a summer afternoon. A marble dressing table area connects to the bath where there is a tub, shower and separate toilet.
Down the hall are 2 bedrooms, 1 with a queen bed and 1 with two queen beds. Each room has views of the vineyards and access to a veranda with an ornate wrought iron railing that runs the length of the house and provides time for quiet contemplation. A shared bath with shower over tub and a toilet separates the two rooms.
The kitchen, always the heart of a home, is where Sylvia Sebastiani tried out her recipes for the scrumptious sauces and hearty Italian meals that are included in her popular cookbook, Mangiamo! Let’s Eat. Newly upgraded for today’s cooks with granite counters and tile floors, the kitchen has marvelous vistas of the fruit trees and vines, and a huge flowering poinsettia with bright red blossoms frames the view. You'll be inspired to try your own pairings with some of the fine local wines around the oak table in the kitchen, or create a splendid meal to enjoy in the formal dining room.
Arched windows and doorways out to the lower veranda are a hallmark of the congenial indoor-outdoor lifestyle treasured by wine country residents. The veranda has a long carved stone table with umbrellas that seats 16 for alfresco dining, and a charming rock bridge takes you to the sparkling turquoise oval pool (not heated).
Beyond the pool is a 2-car garage, and a short stroll down the hill brings you to a guest cottage. The rustic, natural wood-paneled cottage has a living area, a small kitchen and a large, appealing queen bedroom that faces the vineyards. Doors open to a wooden deck that wraps around the house and creates a delightful private guest getaway experience.

Sonoma is such a beautiful, historic town that we all feel very fortunate to have an opportunity to stay in a little piece of history. The views are unreal - especially in the morning when you see the hot air balloons going up. It’s both private and very accessible to the town square. Overall, the property and grounds were unbelievable. While the house is a little dated, it does give it some charm especially when you see all the photos of the family and old Sonoma featured throughout. Staying at Casa Sebastiani was such a treat for our group and it was almost heartbreaking when our trip came to an end.

Casa Sebastiani is a lovely house quite conveniently located. We were unluckly to be there during the extreme heat wave, and while there is A/C it did struggle in the unusally high temperatures. We also weren't able to take advantage of the really lovely outdoor spaces around the home - the pictures don't do them justice. The Beautiful team were very communicative and quick to respond to questions.

The place and the property were stunning. Worked perfect for our group. Lots of great outdoor seating.

We hosted a group of friends and family to celebrate a milestone birthday of my wife. The house was a wonderful place to accommodate a group. Plenty of privacy and also plenty of space for a group to gather. We hosted 18 people for a birthday luncheon and it worked out beautifully. A great location for walking into town or for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. We loved it.

Casa Sebastiani exceeded our expectations which were quite high to begin with! The oversized picture windows looking out on stunning scenery were captivating. The property was tastefully and comfortably furnished with ample provision for outdoor seating and dining. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything one might need to feed a crowd. And we did! We jokingly threatened to just stay and see how long it would take to legally evict us.

Great property. The home is beautiful and walking distance to the Sonoma Plaza.

We spend three raining days in Sonoma with friends for a surprise birthday party. We spend way more time indoors than planned, but the Casa was spacious and a great place for just "hanging out". All the rooms were spacious and very clean. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed. It was just the perfect place.

Great location and home to base out of.

We held our team offsite here (7 of us), and all the amenities felt like home. The property is gorgeous and the house spacious. The listing claims the wifi to be spotty (the house is big so some corners lacked coverage), but the internet itself worked well enough for us (work during the day and some streaming at night). Thanks for hosting such a great property!

We stayed over New Years and loved staying at Casa Sebastiani. The citrus and persimmon trees on site all had delicious ripe fruit and we enjoyed bird and wildlife watching. The property was quiet and private. We were able to walk to tastings, restaurants, shopping, and hiking within ten minutes. The layout of the house was excellent for catching up and eating meals together. I did reach out to the host about a minor item and they were very responsive and helpful, even on a weekend, holiday morning. I would stay here again.

The house exceeded all expectations. Our family was not only celebrating Thanksgiving but two birthdays and our 53rd wedding anniversary. We had 13 family members and everyone said this was by far the best gathering we’ve ever had. The weather was perfect for our Thanksgiving meal on the back patio and we couldn’t ask for a better scenic view overlooking the property. The deer walking around the property added to the fun for the kids. It will be hard to duplicate a gathering like this in the future.

This home is stunning, relaxing and has an amazing history. Every corner produced beautiful views and had more then enough space for 12 of us that stayed, inside and outside.

Casa Sebastiani was perfect for us and our friends (ten adults) to reunite for a couple's wine country get away. If you are looking for a house that has a wine country feel and full of history, this is your house! We were able to walk and/or drive to Sonoma Plaza from the house. The house has a fully equipped kitchen for what you would need to cook with. Some reviews say the bathrooms are dated but we found it charming because we appreciated what looked like to be the original tile work in the primary bathroom upstairs other bathrooms were updated. Also, pleasant surprise was a pool table and bar area in the downstairs basement. We got an Uber and did the Napa Valley Wine Train one day (The Legacy Experience), then had a driver pick us up (Beau Wine Tours) at the house for a day of wine tastings around Sonoma (visited Gloria Ferria, Anaba, Buena Vista wineries and Hanson Distillery). We cooked at home one evening and then enjoyed eating out the rest of the time at The Girl and The Fig, B&V Whiskey Bar and Grille and Della Santina's. Don't forget to visit Basque Boulangerie Cafe for some really good pastries to enjoy back at the house or breakfast at Sun Flower Café. We visited Armstrong National Park and enjoyed a wine tasting at Sebastiani Winery right down the street from the house and walked around Sonoma Square. The views from the house are so beautiful and it has a long driveway up on a hill with a private feel. The best part is the morning sunrises from the backyard and seeing the hot air balloons in the sky. Ellen was a pleasure to work with for booking this house and answered any questions we had. There are three grocery stores about a mile away to pick up any supplies you might need. This house is so convenient to everything. Everyone in our group - kept saying; they didn't want to leave and go back to reality.

I celebrated my 80th birthday with my adult children and grandchildren. . The kitchen and supplies more than adequate for preparing and serving our meals.
The home and property were full of history, which I truly enjoyed. The house is historical, sophisticated but comfortable .
Well located for walking or biking to town.
Casa Sebastiani and it’s property was exactly what I hoped it would be,

The home had wonderful charm on a beautiful estate. It had a spacious living room and dining room where we spent many hours enjoying each other's company. We recommend this place to anyone wanting the appeal of a 1940's grand homestead that is close to downtown Sonoma with close access to the fabulous wine country.

A large group of family and friends and I stayed at Casa Sebastiani for my bachelorette weekend in Sonoma and Napa, and we could not have picked a better location. We felt so special to be staying in the home built by the original owners of the winery and surrounding vineyards. It was like we were staying in a little slice of history. The size of the house was so comfortable for 13/14 of us. The large living room is bigger in real life than it looks in the photos, and we were so excited to know that we could even make use of the fireplace! It made it extra cozy for us even though we were visiting during one of the rainiest weekends in Sonoma's history.
We found it a bit hard to regulate the temperature of the guest room off the kitchen on the ground floor, but it was not a major inconvenience, and the covers were cozy enough for our guests to keep warm. The house is filled with a lot of fun surprises - including the pool table and entertainment space on the lower level which was super fun for us.
Overall, we loved our stay, and hope to come back in the future!

Eleven of us gathered (From 7 different locations). The property was perfect for us!!! It was well-located and we could easily walk into town. We loved the common areas (kitchen, dining and living rooms) which were big enough for all of us. There was also enough individual space for each person. The game room with the pool table was a hit! Pictures of this house do not do it justice. It is lovely and we are so glad we had a chance to enjoy it.

Our group of 8 friends came to celebrate a birthday and this was a great house with lots of space. It is perfectly situated near the heart of Sonoma, walking distance to everything. Bottle of wine to greet us was a perfect beginning to an absolutely fabulous time. Would definitely rent again!

This property is a great option for a large group with 5 bedrooms in the main house and another in a detached guest house. The dining room was perfect for our chef prepared dinner for 10 and the living room and outdoor spaces held us all while we hung out together. There’s a pool table in the basement and it’s an easy 1/2 mile walk to downtown Sonoma. The towels and linens are all nice. The reason I’ve given it 4 stars is that the bathrooms are quite dated. The drains in two of the showers didn’t function well and the showers heads need descaling/cleaning.

Came to the home with college friends getting together to celebrate forty years of friendship. Home was perfect. We had a marvelous time. Amazing.

We rented Casa Sebastiani for a group milestone birthday celebration. The property was as described. Great location - walking distance to town. The house was great. The bathrooms are a little dated (clean); however, this actually added to the charm of this vintage house. The llarge picture windows and views are incredible. We enjoyed the patio tables for dinners. The weather in Sonoma is amazing. Hot days and cool nights. The basement photos of history and family are fantastic. The pool was not completely cleaned and ready for us - which is the reason for 4 rating in cleanliness. We pointed this out to the property manager and they sent someone right away. Worth mentioning that the bedrooms should have screens on the windows to allow the cool night air to be enjoyed. Otherwise, the air conditioning is great downstairs and no air was felt in the bedrooms upstairs. We will be back!

Location, location, location. Casa Sebastiani is a beautiful home situated on a large private estate that is walking distance to Sonoma square where you will find endless things to do. The estate is large and private with plenty of room to relax. The appointments are somewhat dated but we had no complaints. Everything was clean and inviting. You can walk the beautiful grounds, hang out by the pool or walk to the nearby square. There are so many restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, ice cream vendors, boutique clothing stores and wine tasting venues. We rented e-bikes and rode to daily to Sonoma restaurants and wineries. You cannot go wrong with Casa Sebastiani.

Best 40th ever!
Casa Sebastiani was the perfect place to celebrate my 40th birthday! The bedroom setup worked perfectly for our group. The landscape and wildlife are amazing. The walk to Sonoma Square is also easy (once you get used to walking back up the steep driveway).
As for the house, it’s old, but that’s not a bad thing. The things that “need” to be modern/new are. The character can’t be beat! After a couple of hot days the pool had warmed up enough to get in without being cold. I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to come back again!

8 adults shared this property for a wedding weekend. The house has spectacular views and is in a great location. Although the house was clean, it is very dated. That said, the kitchen is very well equipped and we had no issues. The pool and yard are very well maintained. I would definitely recommend.

This historical property was beautiful and spacious. The views from every room were breathtaking...from the landscape to the hot air balloons in the distance, we were never disappointed. My favorite part of our experience was eating oranges from the fruitful trees just off the kitchen porch. I would absoluyly rent this home again!
