I almost hate to review this house because we'd like to keep it a secret:) It was in a fabulous and quiet location with access to a little sunset watching beach with lots of turtles to view from a safe distance. The yard and swing were highlights and we loved every minute of our trip!!

Beautiful, well maintained, SO well stocked and SUPER clean!
Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise with us.
Our 11 year old daughter and my 85 year old mom both equally enjoyed it !
We had a fabulous stay!!

We loved our stay in Puako. We had two families. We each had a separate end of bedroom and bathroom with the living room and kitchen in the middle. The views out the back was beautiful. It worked out great. Mahalo

Our second stay here. Love the backyard view and the proximity to the beach, as well as fans of Puako in general.

We are repeat guests at this clean, well appointed home. The layout is conducive to a bit of privacy for two couples or friends or families, as the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the common spaces. We love staying in a residential neighborhood with a short walk to incredible snorkeling, a new sunset every evening across the street, and awesome beaches just a half mile away. Spectacular views of Mauna Kea from the private backyard. The hosts are responsive and accommodating. A great place!

This is my third time to stay at this home in Puako. I love it there, in the morning you can see the sunlight coming between Kohala and Mauna Kea, and view the mountains of Mauna Loa and Hualalai as well, weather depending. In the evening I walk across the street and watch the sunset.

I’ve stayed in Puako many times and have sampled a variety of accommodations. This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom “Ohana Hale” suited us perfectly! We enjoyed watching the sunrise over Mauna Kea, and the sunset over the ocean. Access to waterfront was easy and our daily routine included a morning shore walk. From the shore, we witnessed many turtles, both swimming and sunning. We also watched a whale spouting close to shore. We used the a/c only once when we first arrived at night to a closed up house. After that, only fans and open windows were needed. The bonus to that approach is you can hear the waves. I highly recommend and hope to visit again in the future! Mahalo!

This home suits us perfectly! It isn't part of a resort community, nor does is it isolated up on the island. We walk across the road to the edge of the old lava flow and spend our day sitting on the sand, wading through the tidepools, snorkeling, watching for whale and at the end the day, watching a gorgeous sunset over the ocean. It's near the ranchlands to the north and resort shopping and restaurants to the south. And you certainly can't beat the beautiful sunrises over Mouna Kea each morning. We love this well-cared for, comfortable little home.

Fantastic! Beautiful setting, sunrises, beach sunsets very close by, house decor was perfect and well stocked for our needs. Host was accessible and answered questions promptly.
Close to great beaches and other attractions.
Would love to come again. Thank you Sandi!

Sandi was a wonderful host. The home was beautiful, very clean, with a really well stocked kitchen. The location was amazing. The view from the back yard was fantastic, especially on a clear night. We saw turtles resting on the rocks at the beach just across the road. A really nice quiet neighborhood. I hope that I can come back and stay again.

Lovely stay in lovely setting. Private quiet area with wonderful views. Complete with one fabulous swing in the yard that I thoroughly enjoyed and I am an old man!!!

The listing accurately shows the house and rooms. The setting is really nice with the back yard having an unobstructed view of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. And the beach is just across the street, we saw several turtles near shore. Nice quiet neighborhood. It is a bit of a drive to most destinations, though to be expected given how dispersed the island is. Hapuna Beach which is gorgeous is a short drive though. Hosts were very responsive to help deal with a few minor maintenance issues.

Enjoyed our stay in lovely Puako Ohana Hale. Very well-equipped inside and out with new furnishings. Outside shower is a treat. Access to our favorite beaches was so quick and easy: 8 minutes to Waialea, 10 to Hapuna and 15 to Spencer. Very quiet and peaceful near the end of Puako Beach Dr. Views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa and the dark night sky were tremendous. Walked across the street to the beach for sunset every evening and had our coffee there every morning. Terrific place, very glad we stayed here.

Came in 2022, returned in 2023. Love the back yard with views of four mountains, and to be able to walk across the street and watch the sunset

Our family of 4 had an absolute blast staying in this lovely home! It was clean and spacious, providing enough room for us to all spread out and enjoy some alone time when it was needed. The tidal pools across the street are awesome to experience! The one problem we had with the door lock was fixed by the property manager very quickly. Very happy to have found this quiet, peaceful place! Definitely recommend staying here! We are already planning our next trip over it was such a great find! Thanks for sharing your home with us!!

My husband and I spent a wonderful 6 days here for our 10th anniversary. I've spent a lot of time in the Puako neighborhood, and so it was lovely to be back. The home was beautiful, and had everything we needed for our stay. All the cookware we needed was provided, along with beach towels and chairs to use at the nearby beaches. The views out the back were tranquil, and a gorgeous sunset-watching spot was only feet away. We found it easy to use everything, and the owner was responsive when we had a question. I would definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing vacation. A few quick tips for those who come enjoy this property: the sugar is in the fridge, the laundry machine is out back by the shower, and you might want to bring an eye mask if you are not a morning person. It does get quite bright in the bedrooms in the morning.

Spent a week in this delightful house in a real community on the big island. The owner was very friendly and communicative. The views from the back of the house are amazing, and the water is close by just across the street with turtles and tide pools. The house is well equipped and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

We truly enjoyed our stay. The property is quiet and private in a residential neighborhood. The perfect home base to relax, enjoy the ocean across the street, snorkel within a 5 minute walk, drive to fabulous beaches just 5 minutes away, and find restaurants and shopping nearby. The home is clean, well maintained, and the floor plan is perfect for privacy. The owner and property manager were both very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.

This has become our favorite property in Puako for many reasons: peacefulness, great neighbors, view of Mauna Kea sunrises, epic sunsets out the other direction, boat cookies at the General Store, waves at Hapuna, ahi tacos at Kohala Burger…..that’s pretty much our vacation! So much time to do nothing but enjoy all of Big Island’s beauty and uniqueness.
The back yard is one big reason we keep returning; it’s big, grassy and has a tree swing you won’t be able to resist. The kitchen is well stocked, the beds are comfy and the outdoor shower is fantastic. There is a large cache of beach stuff like chairs, boards and toys if you need them. Whether you like to roam the island all day or just stay at home, Sandi and Ken’s property will be a lovely respite from just about any troubles you might have. Just don’t take our two weeks in January please!!

There was snow on Mauna Kea almost our whole stay. Dawn was beautiful. The beach access is just across the street with so much fun marine life to observe and enjoy. The onsite property manager Johnny was helpful and friendly. Easy living.

I have stayed here several times and cannot recommend it enough - it is fully equipped, the host is super responsive and the location and peace of the house can't be beat. It would work for a small family, 2 couples or friends, as it did for us. The only problem is that it is too popular so I have to plan far in advance. Book it if you can!!

The view of the sun rising over Mauna Kea with the observatories in view and the snow was beautiful beyond words. This was right out the back door every morning. We also just had to cross the street to the public beach access to see the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.
The house had everything we needed and was clean and well appointed. We had an issue with one of the showers and it was fixed within 3 hours of me texting the owner.
We had a wonderful stay

This is a most peaceful retreat with the 24/7 feeling of being part of this special corner of the Kohala Coast. The view to Moana Kea is unobstructed with no neighbours in site and no lights to dim the night time star show. You can watch the sunrise over the volcano every day and the sunset across the street at the ocean every evening - this is heaven indeed. The house is well supplied, the beds comfortable and the bedrooms separate enough for two couples to enjoy. There is easy access to several of the best beaches on the island. The owners are very responsive if there are problems and there is a local manager. You will want to come back again and again (as we have)!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay. We have stayed on ocean side of Puako for many years but found we were very happy with the mountain view and back yard. The backyard is a haven for all sorts of birds Love the swing and sunrises! The beach access across the street is so convenient.
The house is well stocked with most everything you would need and meal prep was a breeze.
The owner has thoughtfully added new gel toppers to the twin beds making them very comfortable for our guest.
The master bedroom is lovely with multiple windows to bring in the breeze. Neighborhood is quiet and friendly, we appreciated the lack of road noise.
Puako is not for everyone but who are looking to relax without a resort experience it’s wonderful. We look forward to return.ing.

We stayed here for a week for a long overdue family vacation. The house was exactly what we needed. Enough space that our teenager felt like he had some privacy and a wonderful yard for our younger child to explore. The kitchen was really well stocked making meals easy to prepare. The quiet location was much appreciated by the adults. The sunrises over Mauna Kea from the lanai were sublime only to be closely matched by the sunsets at the beach, literally across the street from the house. The location was a perfect launching point for our daily adventures and the beach supplies made it easy to spend the day on the beach. Added bonus: The Puako General Store is a gem! We hope to return again someday soon!

My family had such a wonderful time at the house. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the views looking towards the mountains couldn’t be beat. The space was also perfect for our two kids. Our older son loved the swing, beach equipment, and nearby tide pools and the house was baby proof for a crawling baby. We were visiting family in Waikoloa Village and thought the neighborhood was more pleasant than the nearby resort complexes. Thank you for having us and hope we can visit again soon!

We loved this rental! The privacy and location are fantastic! The view is endlessly beautiful. The cleanliness is fantastic and the layout and couch, etc. are great! The ease of reserving and checking in and out was great. We definatley loved this rental! The only thing that needs to be addressed is the comfort of the twin beds. The mattresses are too hard and caused my sister neck and upper back pain. The extra padding and bedding that we added from the closet could not correct the issue adequately. If that gets corrected, then it would be perfect.

We had a great stay in Puako. Quiet area which gave us everything we needed - close driving to beaches like Hapuna and many restaurants more in the resort areas. We were walking distance to great snorkeling (and diving). We went diving a couple of times in the area, and Puako reef is pretty great. We saw some turtles multiple times right on the beach right across from the property as well.
The host communicated everything perfectly, and was easy to work with!
We cooked a lot of meals, and everything we needed seemed to be available. There were also a lot of beach gear to borrow as needed (snorkels, boogie boards, cooler, towels, etc).
We enjoyed the laid-back and quiet nights that Puako offers (esp compared to say downtown Kona), so would stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay! Agree with all other positive reviews. Great location and beautiful home and backyard.

This property is away from the busy crowds of Kona and the resorts but convenient to lots of great beaches and activities. The house has all of the beach essentials that you will need and you'll appreciate the outdoor shower when you return from a beach day. It's a short drive to Beach 69 and Hapuna SP. If you leave early you can get a spot in the small lots at the Mauna Kea Mauna Lani beaches. A Bay beach is a bit farther and our favorite, Makalawena, requires a longer time in the car. But it's worth it if you don't mind driving very carefully down a 1.5 mile rough road and walking 30 minutes along a path through a lava field. Your reward will be a nearly secluded area that includes areas with calm surf and rougher surf. The beach is the most beautiful around! Of course, we enjoyed walking right across the street from the house to enjoy the sunsets (and then coming back to see Mauna Kea slowly slide into darkness) and early risers will enjoy seeing the sun come up over Mauna Kea. Sandi was a good communicator for any issues that came up.

The house was perfect for our family. Close to great beaches and food. And we all enjoyed the swing looking out toward Mauna Kea.

This house was great. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect size for our family of 4. The location was excellent - amazing sunrise over Mauna Kea every day, easy walk to see the sea turtles and sunset at Puako Bay, and convenient to many gorgeous beaches, delicious restaurants, and Big Island activities. We would recommend to anyone. Mahalo!

We very much enjoyed our stay at this house. The layout was great for our family. We especially enjoyed the outside lanai with the views of Mauna Kei. And we loved the proximity to truly sterling beaches. We felt that the neigborhood was a hidden jewel. We rented snorkels and picked up groceries from the nearby Mauna Lani shops. We went snorkeling with manta rays by Mauna Kea resort. The quiet location was ideal for us, with wonderful proximity to wonderful snorkeling and beaches. The night sky was also astounding. I saw two shooting stars.

This neighborhood is amazing. The location is almost as convenient as being beach front.
The house has all of the beach equipment, the outdoor shower is perfect - if you are looking for a chill house and are planning for days to soak up the sun on the beach and snorkel and avoid the city hustle - this is the house. The stars are amazing.
Would love if the couch converted to a bed - but for my third kid, it worked. Lots of light in the house, so if you want to sleep in, bring a sleep mask.
One more thing to note, very kind neighbors.

Great quiet place to watch Mauna Kea and the stars
Loved the layout of this open spaced home. And we actually preferred the quiet seclusion on not being right on the water. The view out the back over Mauna Kea was nothing short of spectacular, and I haven’t seen stars like I saw here for a very long time.
