About this house rental
Welcome to the Barley Harbor Lodge.
We are a Swiss couple and have been living in Newtowncashel on Lough Ree for several years.
With the Barley Harbor Lodge we offer you the opportunity to get to know this pristine area in the heart of Ireland. There is a lot to discover. Here the pub is still heated with locally cut peat in the open fireplace and the locals are always open for a chat over a pint of Guinness or a glass of Irish whiskey.
The house is in a very quiet location and is a 3-minute walk from the picturesque Barley Harbor on Lough Ree. Fishing, walking, cycling (signposted paths off the main road), golfing or just relaxing in the 2500 m2 garden around the house is possible.
The lodge was built in 2003 in a typical Irish style with a stone facade and has high-quality furnishings.
In the evening they enjoy the cozy warmth of the blazing fire in the fireplace. Comfortably read a book or watch a movie on the 32 inch flat screen TV. In addition to the Irish channels, you can also receive Swiss SF1, SF2 etc. as well as German channels such as ARD, ZDF, Pro7, RTL, VOX, Sat1 and many more.
The house is also heated with central heating.
All 3 bedrooms have double beds. There are two bathrooms available. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, filter coffee machine, ceramic hob / oven and washing machine. From the large oak dining table for 6 people you have a direct view of the well-tended garden.
Due to its central location in the heart of Ireland, day trips to almost all of Ireland's famous sights are possible. Be it the Cliffs of Moher, a stroll through Galway, a drive through the charming landscape of Connemara National Park. Even an excursion to the famous Giants Causeway is possible. In an hour you can reach various beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.
We have known Ireland for over 30 years and are happy to share our insider tips for excursions and sights with you.
Dublin Airport is only 90 minutes away.
Of course, the region is also very well known among anglers. For example, the World Championships in pike fishing take place on Lough Ree every spring. Nowhere is the chance for a meter of pike as great as here. In addition, the Lough Ree is no longer an insider tip for wild trout / brown trouts even among Irish. The May Flies hatch attracts anglers from all over the world to Lough Ree every year in May and June to experience the unique spectacle and the chance of a major brown trout. Of course, the Egli / Perch anglers are not neglected here either. This predatory fish is almost not fished by the Irish and the stocks in the lake or the tributaries are accordingly large.
If you want to experience something different, you should take a trip on a fishing charter boat for deep-sea fishing on the Atlantic. We have contacts to skippers in Westport and Clew Bay and are happy to help with the reservation.

Absolutely beautiful property tucked away from everything, yet it’s within a 30 minute drive from what one may need regarding grocery stores, restaurants, etc. It was also cozy and a central location which was great for us. Eva was always available for any questions we had. Great experience overall!

Out in the country away from the noise and busyness lies a piece of heaven. A beautiful house with all the amenities one might desire, comfortable beds, a cozy living room with a fireplace, and the stars are all alight from the back patio. We could not have chosen a better place to stay.

Even if the weather was not very fine, we enjoied visit the county and appreciate the quiet area. For us, this place was a little bit too isolated and far away from the pubs and accomodations.

Eva was very hospitable and kept in touch to make sure we enjoyed our stay and we were comfortable. We asked to stay an extra night and she was very accommodating. The property is about 15 minutes from the nearest town but it is very nice and quiet. A good escape to enjoy the Irish country side. We highly recommend this property for anyone looking to avoid the city.

In a very quiet and relaxing environment we stayed in Newtowncashel.
We made trips from there to different sides of Ireland, like Dublin, Cliffs of Mohar and Galway. Within a two hours drive a lot of sightseeing can be done (although for Europeans is driving on the other side of the road challenging). The owner was very friendly and helpful which made our stay stay very pleasant.

We needed a place at the last minute and we're happily pleased to get this one. It was beautiful inside and out, completely equipped with everything we needed and it made us feel completely at home. A wonderful fireplace added to the cozy feel and the quietness of the land around us made us totally relax. Eva, our hostess, was so kind to get us in last minute and then showed us all that it had (including a luxury coffee maker) and how everything worked. We would love to stay there again!

Familienurlaub im Herzen Irland‘s
Wir hatten einen wirklich schönen Aufenthalt in der Barley Harbour Lodge. Es hat uns an Nichts gefehlt. Ein bisschen mehr Sonnenschein hätte nicht geschadet ;-)
Wer gern mit dem Auto auch mal längere Strecken fährt, kann von hier aus viele Ausflugsziele erreichen. Ohne Auto ist es aber nicht der geeignete Ort. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten befinden sich in ca. 20 min Fahrtzeit entfernt.

It will be hard to summarize all the great things about this property, but I'm going to try:
- We met both Eva and Rico, Eva's son, and they were both extremely kind and helpful. They provided plenty of tips and information about the cottage, exploring Ireland, and even the Dublin airport process when we were heading out. They were also very responsive over the app.
- The cottage had all the amenities you could hope for, and is in a beautiful, serene location. There is a fireplace with both wood and peat to burn, which made for some lovely evenings.
- There was a basket full of brochures about various sites to visit in Ireland, which we made good use of! The cottage is right near the center of Ireland so pretty much everything can be a day trip.
-The cottage had three separate bedrooms, one of which had an ensuite bathroom separate from the main hall bathroom
-The inclusion of a washing machine and dishwasher made a long-term stay very welcoming
Overall this was a fantastic property with very responsive hosts. It was spacious, cozy, and felt like a home away from home. We loved our time here and you will too!

Quiet Retreat
This place was the perfect size for family of five. It was a great location for fishing, but a long drive to large towns. This is a great place to stay if you want to really get to know local culture or want to get away from the hustle and bustle of town.

Toller Urlaub in schönem Ferienhaus!
Das Ferienhaus war wie in der Beschreibung angegeben. Wir haben ein paar tolle Tage in der Barley Harbour Lodge verbringen dürfen. Es fehlte an nichts. Der Kontakt mit der Vermieterin war sehr nett und problemlos.
Wenn wir abends von unseren Ausflügen zurückgekommen sind, haben wir den Kamin angemacht und unser tolles "zuhause" genossen.

2 Wochen Natur pur und absolute Ruhe
Die Unterkunft ist absolut zu Empfehlen!!!
Ein Master Schlafzimmer mit Bad, zwei weitere Schlafzimmer mit gemeinsamen Bad. Alles sehr liebevoll und Landestypisch eingerichtet. Riesiger, gepflegter Garten, Grill und Gartenmöbel sind auch vorhanden.
Zu Fuß in 2 Minuten am Wasser in idyllischer Lage.
Eva ist sehr hilfsbereit und kompetent.
Ihre Tips und Ratschläge für Einkauf und Ausflüge sind spitze. Check in/out waren sehr unkompliziert und nett.
Für Urlaub mit und ohne Kinder bestens geeignet.
Nach Dublin, Galway, Connemara jeweils ca. 120km.
Longford und Athlone sind sind Ausflüge wert.
Das Rustic Inn Pub am Royal Canal ist auch zu empfehlen.
Außerdem Pitch and Put Golf in Ballymore, Golf für jedermann ohne Vorkenntnisse. Schläger und Bälle gibt es Vorort.

Erholsame Tage in ruhiger Umgebung
Das Haus ist vollumfänglich ausgestattet und die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich (als Begrüßung gibt es frische Eier von eigenen Hühnern und Empfehlungen für Ausflüge). Wenn man absolute Ruhe und Entspannung sucht, ist man hier richtig. Leider sind die Wege zu einigen Sehenswürdigkeiten sehr weit.

Zum ersten Mal in Irland
Wir waren vom 25.5-8.06.2019 in der Barley Harbour Lodge (Newtown Cashel) von Fam. Bischof in den Ferien.
Sehr netter und hilfsbereiter Vermieter. Es ist ein Wundervolles, gemütliches Haus in der Mitte von Irland. Mit grossem, gepflegten Umschwung. Sehr gut eingerichtet. Auch in der Küche fehlte es an nichts. Wir haben Ausflüge nach Dublin, Galway, Athlone, Kylemore Abbey gemacht oder sind einfach am Lough Ree (5Minuten entfernt) gewandert. Zum Einkaufen fuhren wir nach Longford oder Roscommon (Supervalue, Tesco, Lidl, Aldi etc.) Es war ein perfekter Urlaub für uns. Ruhig und Mitten in der Natur. Wir können dieses Haus 100% weiterempfehlen.
Noch Nebenbei: Auch der beste Vermieter kann das Wetter nicht ändern.

Wunderbare Erholung im Grünen
Schon im Vorab, sehr freundliche und hilfreiche Kommunikation mit Eva.
Sehr freundlicher Empfang und viele Ausflugstipps auf Anfrage. Der Aufenthalt im Ferienhaus war für uns absolut Problemlos, alles was man irgendwie benötigt (WLan, Kochutensilien, Grill usw..) war vorhanden und hat einwandfrei funktioniert.
Mit dem Auto sind Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in Longford oder Lanesborough innert einer halben Stunde gut erreichbar.
Alles in Allem genossen wir einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt in der Barley Harbour Lodge - wir können und werden Eva und Freddy sicherlich weiterempfehlen.

Traumhafte Ruhe und Erholung pur
So einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt wie in diesem Ferienhaus hatten wir selten.
Das Haus war sauber, sehr gut ausgestattet, gemütlich und wahnsinnig ruhig. Wir haben uns einfach wie zu Hause gefühlt. Wir wurden super nett empfangen, uns wurde das Haus top erklärt und haben perfekte Tipps für Ausflüge von Fr. Bischof erhalten. Diese Tipps trugen dazu bei, den Urlaub mit unseren erwachsenen Enkel unvergesslich schön zu gestalten. Die Vermieter waren diskret im Hintergrund, wir wussten aber - sollten wir etwas brauchen - sind sie da.
Wir sind bestimmt nicht das letzte mal bei Familie Bischof gewesen...

Liebevoll eingerichtet, sehr gut ausgestattet und ausserordentlich freundliche Vermieter
Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Ferienhaus ist aussergewöhnlich gut ausgestattet und man fühlt sich gleich zu Hause. Wichtig zu wissen ist, dass man auf jeden Fall ein Auto braucht, wenn man die Gegend erkunden und die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Region besuchen möchte.

Tolles Haus
Wir verbrachten wunderbare Ferien in diesem sehr gut ausgestatteten Haus. Die Anfahrt verlief dank Evas Beschreibung unproblematisch. Sie zeigte und erklärte uns alles. Hier fanden wir eine sehr gute Ausstattung, die keine Wünsche offen ließen. Dank der zentralen Lage waren auch Ausflüge nach Galway und Dublin möglich.
Das vorhandene Wifi freute die Kinder (und uns) und funktionierte problemlos.
Herzlichen Dank an Eva, wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Urlaub machen!

Fantastic Stay!
Starting from the beginning-
1) Very prompt communications from Eva
2) The post code provided for the location is very accurate and took us to the property without any need for correction (used google maps)
3) There is only one word to describe our first impressions of the house and its surroundings- Wow!
4) Eva showed us the house and explained each and every bit of information that we could need while we were there.
5) The house has a Wifi (could not see mentioned in the description) so our children were very pleased.
6) Eva had come to welcome us and hand over the keys -she is friendly and very professional. The owners had taken care of everything that could be required during the stay and I mean everything (even with instructions to use the appliances).
7) The house is situated at about 3-5 minutes of walking distance from the lake (Barley Harbour) .
8) Longford town is about 30 min drive- here you can find the superstores (Tesco/Aldi/Lidl etc.) There are other small grocery stores that we found a bit closer.
9) Most of the places that we visited during our stay were from 30 min (around Longford) to 2.5 hours ish (Galway and Cliffs of Moher) of drive.
10) All in all the stay was perfect for us (family of 5) -the house with its amenities were excellent/the surroundings were beautiful and the villagers are friendly and we really enjoyed- Thanks to Eva and Freddy. Would recommend.

Einfach toll!
Das Häuschen liegt wunderbar ruhig. Wir haben uns pudelwohl gefühlt.
Es ist alles vorhanden, was man für einen ruhigen (Familien-)Urlaub benötigt.
Ob gemütlicher Abend im vor dem Kaminfeuer im Wohnzimmer, Grillparty auf der Terrasse, oder ein Spieleabend im Esszimmer, hier ist alles möglich.
Die Besitzer sind unglaublich nett und haben vor unserer Ankunft extra ein Babybettchen und einen Babysitz für unsere Tochter besorgt.
Unser Urlaub hier war super entspannend, und wir werden definitiv diese Bleibe für den nächsten Urlaub in Irland wieder in Betracht ziehen.

The best holiday home that I have ever stayed in.
The house was absolutely wonderful. We were only there for a weekend snd didn't have time to "find" everything in the house as it was so well equipped. For the coffee aficionados there are at least three coffee machines - there might be more!.
Eva was a wonderful host and took great pains in welcoming us, even to the extent of having a fire lit for us.
All in all a great place to spend a lovely relaxing weekend.
