About this house rental
Located just a short walk from Main Street this 1950 style home is both elegant and comfortable. The name “Sam Houston's Retreat” came from their favorite pet dog. You will see a variety of artwork throughout the house to remind you of Sam Houston. It is evident they have done and thought of everything to make each and every stay a special memory. Your hosts completely remodeled this awesome home in 2010 and 2013.
Walking into the front door you will be in awe of the beautiful living room. There is a red luxurious sofa with two comfortable chairs faced to enjoy both the fireplace and the 42” flat screen cable television and DVD player. There is also an awesome game table with cushioned straight back chairs to enjoy playing games or just to visit. Your hosts have provided books, games, cards and puzzles for you to enjoy during your stay. Across the hall from the living room is a bath with a large tile shower. The sunroom faces the patio and offers a beautiful setting with a majestic day bed with trundle. (Sheets in armoire).
Two bedrooms are exquisitely decorated to create both romance and royalty. The master bedroom has a king bed decked in an array of colors with the primary color being red. The armoire has another flat screened television. A loveseat in the corner is great for reading or just lounging. The second bedroom has a lovely iron queen bed topped with an array of pillows. A bathroom with a whirlpool tub and shower is found in the hall.
Do you enjoy being in a kitchen that is both efficient and awe-inspiring? This is the one. The spacious kitchen has everything you will need to create special meals or just enjoy your coffee in the morning. There is a stovetop/oven, large refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffeemaker and stocked with dishes both to eat on and cook with.
Outside is a private stone patio with a wicker loveseat, chairs and grill The patio is perfect for enjoying Fredericksburg's crisp cool mornings. A board fence is perfect for your pet to run and enjoy a little exercise. The patio door does lock behind you so be very careful when going outside.
The home is pet friendly and will accept up to two dogs but each one must weigh 30 lbs or less. In addition, there is a pet fee of $27/dog/night. Due to the fact that HomeAway/VRBO does not allow us to charge for more than one dog at the time of booking, please let us know if you will be bringing more than one dog, so that we can make sure that you are charged the correct amount. If you bring more than one dog and do not let us know, you will be charged accordingly. Furthermore, please bring crates for your dogs and crate them in your absence from the house, do not allow the dogs on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.

Everything about the house is great. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the road noise can be loud, but we were prepared for that and brought sound machines for the bedroom. Kitchen was well equipped. Bed was comfortable. Location is an easy walk to Main Street. I would have liked the TV's to be Smart TV's, so that I could have accessed my Amazon & Youtube account. Next time I will bring a Firestick to access the internet.

We loved the house! Cozy and comfortable!

We have stayed at Sam Houston’s retreat several times, and make it our go to place to stay. The location is great and it’s kept up so well. It was a birthday celebration and we will be back for the next one.

Wonderful stay, our third stay at the Sam Houston House. We love it, so comfortable and homey! We look forward to next year with you!
Thank you,

The hot tub as advertised was a small inside tub. For the price they don't furnish firewood. At 5:30am the traffic noise wakes you up no matter which bedroom your in. The living room ceiling is about to fall in. Not worth the money at all.

Definitely would like to stay there again!

Loved, loved, loved it

The Sam Houston Retreat was large & comfortable for the four of us. We had our privacy, large bedroom with our own bathroom which was an important feature. A lot more space with the living room, large TV & space for reading. The trundle bed was a nice feature for more people & nice room to relax. The patio would be nice for warmer weather. We were close to Main Street. All in all, it was a great property.

We traveled from Houston to meet friends from Boerne for a weekend in Fredericksburg. Sam Houston's Retreat was the perfect size for our group of 4 - plus one well-mannered pet. The location was close enough to the Nimitz properties to walk and as a bonus the weather was perfect. We enjoyed having coffee and breakfast at Sam Houston's Retreat. For lunch and dinner we went to new places and some old favorites. Coupons to redeem at several restaurants were provided- that we didn't use, but definitely would next time. Location was GREAT -except for the busy intersection ( - 1 Star for traffic noise). Fortunately, there were pedestrian crosswalk signals to use for crossing the street when needed. All amenities were as described for the property. If we go again, we will take a coffee pot, because we went through too many k-cups. The interior was roomy and decorated with Autumn touches which was a nice surprise.

Loved the decor, ease of rental and beds/bath. If given opportunity would so rent again.

We've stayed here a few times and have always had a great time. The location is great, and the off the street parking is a plus. We'll book here again.

Such a great and cozy place. We really enjoyed our stay.

We had a wonderful time at this property! It was a great location for walking to Main Street, and the house was very spacious. We went with another couple and appreciated that the bedroom/bathroom situation was pretty equal (ie no obvious “main bedroom”). Would definitely book this place again!

We thought the house was great for our short weekend in Fredericksburg. It is an easy walk to everything on Main Street so you have lots of options for dining and shopping without having to drive and worry about parking. A couple of comments addressing other reviews:
- We were there on a weekday as well as over the weekend and did not have any issues with the street noise. We spent a lot of time on the patio and though you could certainly hear vehicles going by, it never disrupted conversation or became bothersome. We always travel with a noise machine so it didn't bother us at night but if you are a light sleeper I would suggest bringing one too.
- Not a fun driveway to back out of given traffic and sight lines. My suggestion would be to always back your car into it which is very easy to do since it is nice and wide.
- There are lots of mentions about plumbing issues which seem to have been addressed before our visit in April 2023. The toilet in the front bathroom ran fine and we did not experience any slow running drains. Having two people shower at the same time had us running out of hot water mid-shower, but going sequentially with only a couple of minutes in between worked fine.
My only complaint is they use a very strong electric air freshener in the main bathroom that fills the house, especially the bedrooms, with a fairly strong scent. If you are the type who is sensitive to such things you might be strongly affected here.

Enjoyed our stay at the San Houston home. Live that our furry family member could stay with us. It was an easy walk to Main Street attractions, food and beverages. Was happy the traffic died down at night so it wasn’t quite as noisy. Wound like to hear about your recommendations for dog friendly places for food and beverages.

Love the house and property - great location, only a couple of blocks to Main Street. The coupons for meals was sweet and unexpected. I would definitely stay there again!

Great house. The two bedrooms are on same end of house with bathroom in between. Second bath is at front of house. If we had been staying with another couple it may have been awkward. But the house is very nice and great sitting area in back yard.

Loved our stay. Clean property near Main with a quiet patio

Everything was good except that the house is located at a very busy intersection and you can certainly hear the traffic especially the trucks all day and sometimes at night and early morning—becomes annoying after a while. Otherwise everything else was great!!

We had a wonderful time at Sam Houston's Retreat. The house was clean, well-furnished, updated, and full of charm, as always. We love staying here and will definitely be back!

Loved how close it was to everything!!!

Enjoyed. Lots of room. Pulling out of garage was not ideal. Overall good place.

Awesome house! This was our 2nd year to stay and have reserved for the weekend of Oktoberfest 2023!

Great property

Super nice, well cared for 2 bed/2 bath super close to everything on Main Street. Comfy beds with all the amenities of home. Even a fireplace. Coffee drinkers in our group wished it had a Keurig. House sits on the corner of E. Travis and Llano which can get noisy but it is still a great location.
4.7
Could have used some bath soap in the showers. Had to buy a couple of bowls and a cook pot at HEB to prepare our dinner there one night. We left the bowls.
The back yard area could use some TLC.
Overall, we like the house and would probably stay there again.
4.7
Cute place but there was a lot of dog hair on the couch, daybed in sunroom and hair all over the floors, dog foot prints on the floor in the sunroom. Mattress on the bed in the 2nd bedroom was uncomfortable. Sheets and bedding on that bed didn't look clean. We
called the house keeper and he came over immediately and took care of it.

Our family really enjoyed our stay. The house is super cute and large, yet felt so cozy. We enjoyed the patio for morning coffee as well. We will stay there again, but we will bring white noise machines to help with the unavoidable traffic noise. We weren't upset about it as they pre-warned by stating it is off a busy street. We felt a simple white noise machine would be enough.

Our group of three had a wonderful stay at Sam Houston's Retreat. The home is lovely, inviting, well-equipped, and in a good location.

Perfect place for 3 lifelong friends to spend the weekend! This place is well equipped . I couldn't find the iron & I called Gästehaus Schmidt & they promptly brought a brand new one. Great guest services!

Perfect place to stay - quick drive to Main St.
The space was great and the beds were comfy! I would stay here again.

Sam Houston Retreat is a wonderful, private and comfortable home. I like being able to pull my SUV off the street and under cover. I like the full kitchen area, a living area, private patio, and the enclosed porch. Deco was pleasing to the eye. A number of people could stay here and be comfortable. Very close to downtown. Would I stay here again, yes I would.

Sam Houston's Retreat is our favorite house in Fredericksburg. It's our third stay there. We feel so at home in the house and our little dogs love the backyard. The house is always very clean. It's literally a couple of blocks from Main Street. Perfect location! We are hoping to return very soon.

Sam Houston was great!! Plenty of room to spread out!! We truly enjoyed our trip!! Highly recommend Sam Houston Retreat!!!

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The four of us were very comfortable in this beautiful home. We had everything we needed. It was a very interesting home that was beautifully decorated. We would recommend the property to others.
4.7
This house had it all!! Comfy beds, wonderful fireplace, tons of space and really nice patio. Located just around the block from the 290 tour bus drop off and a short walk to main st. I highly recommend this wonderful house. Can't wait to go back next year!!

This is a very warm, welcoming house. This was the 5th time we have stayed there and always enjoyed our visits. We did encounter one negative thing on the last day of our last visit. We were unable to make the TV work in the living room on the last morning we were there. I notified Jerry the property manager with a voice message on his phone. I never received a response from him. I will also say it is a complex procedure to turn the TV on. I recommend that written instructions be left by the TV to assist future guests.

Very comfortable and relaxing place
Thanks
