About this house rental
Boutique, dog friendly, holiday cottage. Nestled in the heart of glorious Devon with views over a rich, verdant wooded valley, The Cider Barn has been lovingly restored and is now a luxurious holiday home.
Whether embracing the rolling and bucolic landscape, the scent of the flower-filled cottage garden, staring at the awe-inspiring, dark-sky view of the Milky Way or simply watching the dance of flickering flames on a winter’s evening; the Cider Barn is a lovely place to stay.
Step into the Barn and you ll feel your worries and cares slip away as your holiday begins. This is a gentle space where calm colours and subtle French influences abound… from the luxurious linens to the antique beds.
LIVING
Laze on sumptuous velvet sofas around the enormous OKA coffee table or while away an hour or two reading, curled deep amongst the linen cushions on the day bed…
The double height living area is fabulously expansive at 44’ yet with subtly lime-washed oak floors and beams, together with considered lighting; it can deliver warm, intimate spaces. The eco-friendly ethanol ‘log burner’ (that “hooray” requires no cleaning) and rich scented candles add to the feeling of relaxation and retreat. Summer or winter it is possible to create your own little bit of Danish Hygge here in the heart of Devon.
Enjoy the sight of beautiful, world-class dressage horses as they are led out to graze in the paddocks beyond. And on the subject of the four-legged… we haven’t forgotten that man’s best friend also loves to take time out and snooze so there’s an enormous and deliciously comfortable dog bed (the design has been fully tried and tested by our 4 very discerning terriers).
The Cider Barn may be in deepest, unspoilt Devon but it enjoys super fast 4G-boosted WIFI, a Beats Pill, DAB radio, Freeview TV and DVD players (together with a wide selection of films). However, if you prefer a more analogue approach to your holiday entertainment there’s an extensive choice of books, board games and some amazing birdlife. As the sun starts to set you may even catch sight of the wild deer in the fields or a hare or two.
KITCHEN & DINING
The Cider Barn has a bespoke, hand built kitchen with the darkest of grey slate work surfaces set against Farrow & Ball’s delicious Purbeck Stone. There’s a large six-hob range cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso, Dyson Animal etc.
The kitchen has a rather cool, concrete resin breakfast table, which overlooks the ménage where the neighbouring talented Baronswood Equestrian team break-in the young dressage horses. A separate and more formal dining area for long, relaxing dinners lies just beyond and this comfortably seats 6.
SLEEPING
The Cider Barn, rather uniquely, has direct garden access from both the ground and first floors (it’s built into the valley hillside). Two serene and individually designed bedrooms await on the lower floor…
The spacious master has a gorgeous and wonderfully comfortable, king-size bed with pure linen throws and a vintage French sofa. A large double window opens out onto views of a sunken courtyard. There’s an en suite wet room with rain shower complimentary toiletries.
The second bedroom has two finely upholstered antique, single French beds, Gustavian bedside table, hand painted wardrobe and doors leading out into The Cider Barn’s very pretty cottage garden. It’s a lovely place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee and have a peek to see if the water lilies are thinking about coming out for the day.
There’s a family bathroom with a sumptuous, freestanding bath fantastic for soaking after a day walking on Dartmoor or for the children to play in a mountain of bubbles.
If there’s more than four of you, the Loaf day bed converts to a double or two singles in the blink of an eye.
OIL FIRED HOT TUB
Indulging in the uber-trendy Swedish wood-fired steel hot tub is an absolute must. Bathe under the stars with a glass of fizz and the gentle crackle of a Birch log fire. This hot tub uses no chemicals and does not tick over using electricity… so its great for you, the environment (and for our hydrangeas who benefit from the water).
OUTDOOR SPACE
The Cider Barn has a sweet cottage garden with ornamental pond, hot tub and bistro seating. There’s also an alfresco dining area, sun loungers, BBQ, fire pit.
WINTER WALKS
For winter walks we provide Wellington Boots, his n hers full length riding coats, umbrellas, torches and drinks flasks.

Idyllic, high-class country stay!
We had a simply wonderful stay at Louise's barn conversion recently, celebrating my wife's 40th birthday! The setting is just beautiful, nestled amongst Louise's family home and land but it is very private and you have plenty of space to relax and unwind in peace - to the extent there is a large paddock and numerous other outdoor areas with various seating to enjoy!
The property itself is finished to an extremely high, very tasteful, top-class standard. When you walk in and are met by a multitude of candles, it sets a beautiful ambience to help one immediately begin to relax and unwind.
The cream tea, bottle of bubbles and lovely homemade cake were a superb touch too! :)
The property is very spacious and Louise has added so many homely and personal touches that just make it feel like a home from home. Each room is very well decorated with quality finishes and furniture and the bed is very comfortable!
For us, the icing on the cake was the wood fired hot-tub and a feature that we specifically sought out! Louise was very accommodating in setting this up for us twice, to ensure it was at the perfect temperature to enjoy a very long dip, admiring the vast array of stars in a beautiful non-light polluted sky - simply amazing!
Louise is a great communicative host, nothing is too much trouble and her barn deserves the praise and recommendations it receives - thanks very much for a wonderfully memorable stay!

A dreamy and perfect place to stay
The Cider Barn is perfection. Beautiful, luxurious, peaceful with every added touch that you can imagine. Louise is an outstanding host who puts you at ease immediately and clearly wants guests to have the best time. We really enjoyed the Barn, the amazing grounds including the outside bath, BBQ and pizza oven. This was a special holiday for us. We thought once in a lifetime but now we’re determined to save and stay there again. There is so much more of Devon & Cornwall that we’d love to explore and the Cider Barn is the perfect home from home.

Simply Wonderful!!!
The Cider Barn is just simply the most beautiful place to stay....so tranquil.
Thank you so much Louise for your amazing hospitality and wonderful treats you had left for our son's graduation and daughter's 18th!
.........We were greeted to a lovely 'bubbles' afternoon tea, with the barn lit by candles and soft music.....such a relaxing welcome on arrival.
The outdoor tub is the quirkiest ever..... most relaxing in the evenings lit by beautiful candlelight in a gorgeous secluded courtyard garden.
We cannot recommend this place highly enough....did not want to leave!......will definitely be spreading the word.
Fabulous....fabulous!!!
