About this cottage rental
Our redwood cottage is a wonderful house perched on the ledges above Birch Harbor. It has gorgeous views and has plenty of wonderful blueberries for picking. You can watch the tides from the kitchen table and see the humming birds flit past the windows. It is private, the last house on the road, surrounded by trees and has a wrap-around deck for taking in the quintessential views of Maine. It is located 5 minutes from Winter Harbor and the Schoodic Peninsula portion of Acadia National Park. The property extends down to the water 100 feet away and it is possible to launch small boats, kayaks, or canoes right from the rocks below the house. The large combined living/dining area provides a great place to gather for meals or with friends. Natural tide pools on the shore provide a great temporary home for crabs and starfish before the tide comes back in. There is even a bald eagle that sometimes perches in the trees in front of the house. Well behaved pets are always welcome.
Schoodic Point: Acadia National Park: The cottage is only a few minutes from Schoodic Point, a beautiful part of Acadia National Park. There are picnic areas, a dock where you can fish or look for sand dollars, and hiking trails. Biking is also great around this area. It is far less populated than the Bar Harbor area and is very relaxing.
A canoe/kayak/bike rental place is just 5 minutes away and they also repair bikes if you run into trouble with yours.
The cottage waterfront...: The house overlooks Birch Harbor, a small sheltered harbor with a few lobster boats and lots of scenery. Walks along the water are wonderful with the rocks and seaweed making for classic Maine views. The tidal range is about 6-8 feet here so there is always something new to see in the ever-changing landscape. Carry-in boat access is available right from shore - perfect for kayaks or canoes. The blueberry picking is excellent on the ledges around the cottage - perfect for muffins or just eating them plain!
Our Family: My aunt originally built this cottage on Birch Harbor back in the mid 1960s. The redwood construction has been perfect for a Maine getaway. She was a snow bird - spending winters in Florida and her summers in Maine at the cottage. She loved the blueberries and would make us fresh muffins whenever we visited as kids. We would take trips down to the docks and buy lobsters off the boat. It was at the cottage that we learned the wonders of the sea by collecting sea creature from the tidal flats and putting them in the tide pool - only to be washed away at the next tide. Her kindness has allowed us to keep visiting the cottage and now to share it with others. I hope you choose to stay at our little retreat and that you will come to love it as we do.
Mobility Impaired Access - Several folks over the years have asked about access to the cottage for folks who have mobility issues. The driveway is gravel but not rutted in any way. There is a single ~8" step from the driveway and a single ~7" step into the house proper. There are steps on the other side of the deck but they are avoidable. The path to the water is informal and about 150ft to the water so the path would be more challenging for a mobility impaired person. We want you to have a wonderful time!

This was a great place for us to stay while visiting Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. The owner Dan made us feel very welcome and ensured our stay was comfortable. The check in and out process extremely easy. Having a clother washer and dryer available was a plus.

This is a great cottage on the water at one if the coves near Prospect Harbor. Not only is there the cove, there is a babbling brook near the house ( or a gushing waterfall after heavy rain). If the brook is silent due to no rain, you can hear the ocean waves on the other side of the cove. We experienced all 3 during our ten day stay. Kitchen is very well stocked with everything you need for cooking, views are great, very quiet and private. Host is very responsive. Could not have been a better place

Had a great time staying at this property. It was quiet, secluded and very peaceful. Being able to bike the schoodic peninsula right from the house was wonderful. I worked a bit and the internet was very capable, cell service was spotty. There were wonderful places to eat very nearby, including the pickled wrinkle. Would very much stay here again! Thank you for the wonderful stay!

If you're looking for a private spot consider this cottage, pet friendly in every way and quiet yet very close to the Schoodic loop and Winter Harbor. Small but well appointed in every way. I brought a small hummingbird feeder and was rewarded with a little juvie hummer every day right off the kitchen window :) Note: we also found a feeder in the closet so no need to bring your own!

Really great time! Family of 4 here for a week to explore Acadia, and enjoyed some good
eats too.
The beds in both rooms were super
comfyll stocked bathroom with plenty of towels, and cleaning supplies as needed in the kitchen.
Very clean - we are an asthma/allergy family and travel with hepa filters and breathing treatments just in case. None were needed this trip!
Well equipped kitchen with metal/glass/porcelain wear. We are also a family of food allergies and celiac- we bring stainless steal pots and utensils just in case the kitchen is mostly plastic. We also didn't need to use them.
Really close to the schoodic entrance of Acadia, about an hour to bar Harbour , but a nice drive.
On the schoodic side we explored blueberry hill and the anvil trail
In the main park
Ocean path
Thunder hole
Jordan Pond
We had a really fun meal at the pickled wrinkle ( 5 minutes away) and they were able to accommodate our celiac and dairy allergies.
The Downeaster in Winter Harbor had good iced coffee.
On Tuesday there was a fun farmers market in Winter Harbor by the treehouse restaurant.
Restaurants in Bar Harbor ( delicious qnd also able to accommodate our dietary needs)
SideStreet Cafe
Peeky Toe Provisions
CJs ice-cream ( softserve almond milk ice-cream, blueberry flavor was amazing!)
We also drove to Northeast Harbor and had a meal at the Noreaster ( they have a gluten free dedicated fryer) my husband who doesnt need to be gluten free kept checking because it was all so d

My husband, our two dogs, and I loved staying at the cabin/cottage. It has everything you would need, beautiful view, and snuggled at the end of road giving complete solitude. The location was perfect! The host awesome! We loved Maine!

This is the second time we stayed here. The first time was about 5 years ago and we only stayed 3 nights. Fell in love with the place. This time we stayed about 2 weeks and we brought our fur babies with. They loved it as much as us. We are planning to come back again but we want to stay for the whole month. Can't beat the fall colors in October. So cool to go down to the harbors and get a lobster roll.

We stayed for a long weekend with our dog and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house had everything we needed during our stay, and the heater kept us warm. We loved spending time on the deck watching the changing tides. We visited both parts of Acadia, but loved that we were staying away from the crowds on the schoodic peninsula. Looking forward to returning again when we need an Acadia recharge.

Fantastic location overlooking Birch Harbor. Very quiet and secluded and just a few minutes from the Schoodic Peninsula. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked. It’s obvious that the owner and caretaker work very hard to make the cottage a nice place to stay.
We loved sitting on the deck bird watching and watching the tide come in and out. If you want a feel for Acadia National Park away from the crowds of tourists, the Schoodic Peninsula is the place to explore and the cottage was the perfect place to stay to do that.

This location is amazing. Sitting on the deck, we saw seals, and many different kinds of birds. I will say there are lots of mesquitos in the summer, but that's the nature of nature lol. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who is looking to get away from it all.

This wonderful, peaceful location and cabin is just what we needed. This is only our second visit to Maine and we would most definitely love to come back again to this same rental. We especially enjoyed the cleanliness awaiting us, the relaxation on the deck with the beauty of the harbor in front, looking for shells when low tide, the supplies for anything needed at the cabin, and comfortable furnishings. A perk we really loved in addition was the wild blueberries starting to come when we were there and being able to ride bikes on site they have. Dan even provides a well-equipped shed for including air for the bike tires, which also helped us one day when one of our car tires was low🤷🏻♀️. This is a very peaceful and restful location and the only time we left was for hiking or going out to eat lobster lol. Schoodic Point was one of our favorites along with the whole beautiful area of the park. Also enjoyed a ferry ride one day. If this was rated 1-10, this rental would have a number way above 10. Sure hope to return some day!! Absolutely our favorite, Marty and Linda

This was a great place for my friend and I to get together and relax. It was secluded and had a gorgeous view. There was a market, restaurant, ice cream shop, and post office nearby so we had access to everything we needed. We had lots of trails to explore during the day and DVDs to watch at night. Her dog loved exploring the property as well. The only thing that was missing was a fire pit for those chilly Maine nights (hint, hint).

The cottage is incredibly cozy. The only thing missing was a fireplace! The view from the house is stunning and we enjoyed the seclusion. We do wish there was information regarding grocery stores in the area, luckily we brought a few things with us and were able to make dinner the night we arrived since there really wasn't much near the house. The drive over to Bar Harbor is beautiful and necessary because we came after the ferry closed for the season.
The only thing I can think that would have made this stay even better is if one of the beds was a queen rather than a double.

Just perfect. Very clean, well-equipped, cozy, and comfortable. Very private, nestled in wooded area open to rocky shore with beautiful view of the cove. Minutes to Acadia and Schoodic Point…just beautiful… good place to unplug, bike, hike. 👍🏻Wouldn’t hesitate to return. Thanks, Dan.

We (husband and I and 2 large dogs) rented the property for 5 days in October. The property is very secluded and beautiful - very very close to Schoodic Point which was much quieter than the rest of Acadia. It overlooks the ocean and has a short walk to the rocky shore. The heater is propane so it’s a little all or nothing, but it wasn’t an issue staying warm - they provide plenty of blankets and portable room heaters as well. The kitchen is well equipped. Would highly recommend!

Very much enjoyed our week stay in Birch Harbor. Bar Harbor about a 50min drive but much to explore on the way. Ferry not running during our stay but on the upside we missed the crowds. The cottage was pleasantly rustic with all the amenities needed. A great place for the two of us and our dog 🐶

The owner Dan, was very accommodating and helped us resolve any issues encountered.
We hiked many local trails on Schoodic and enjoyed sunrise and sunset. Much more quiet and natural than the Bar Harbour Acadia experiences.

This was my 2nd time staying at this Birch Harbor cottage and it didn't disappoint! It's about an hour to the main area of Acadia NP, but really close to the Schoodick Point area of the park. The cottage is very clean and has everything you'd need, including some niceties like extra quilts and afgans in the living room to curl up in the comfy couches, a night light in the bathroom, and small flashlights in the bedrooms in case the power goes out. I enjoyed sitting in the sun on the deck on my first day, watching theducks and seagulls. After that the weather was wet and cold but the heater kept the cottage cozy and warm, and the kitchen has all the ammenities even including some basic spices. I don't usually drink hot tea, but I was glad to have a cup on my first night before everything got warmed up! I had to attend one Zoom meeting on my last day - the wifi handled it well, and Daniel was very accommodating when I requested a later checkout time. I highly recommmend this Birch Harbor cottage!

Was way bigger than my husband and I needed for the just the two of us, but it was beautiful either way! The property was gorgeous, far enough away from Acadia and Bar Harbor that it was not crowded, but close enough that we could enjoy those things. Was very clean and well taken care of. Would definitely come back with more people! Highly recommend!!
