The maritime village of Pozzillo.
Pozzillo is a seaside resort of Acireale (Catania). Il Borgo, surrounded by citrus gardens, is located on the shores of the Ionian Sea and is about 6 km from Acireale. Its name derives from the Sicilian "Pizziddu" which means small tip or small head on the sea.
A few meters from the Rustico is the characteristic Piazza di Santa Margherita, the beating heart of the pozzillese summer; in fact, in the square all the initiatives planned during the festivities in honor of Santa Margherita are held. Also in the square we find the kiosks / bars, the fish house and the pizzeria. Going up to Pozzillo superiore (about 1 km) there are the food shops, the tobacconist, and a famous bar famous for its excellent almond slushes and for the artisanal pastry.
The cliff of Pozzillo between the Fontanelle bay and the Cale is characterized by a continuous alternation of small bays and small points between which dominates that of the "marine ox" with the characteristic shape in the shape of a crouched dog.
In the summer months the city administration organizes festivals and parties.
During the swordfish festival, which takes place on the last weekend of July, you can taste the excellent swordfish sandwich, a local specialty, a very special sandwich with a slice of grilled swordfish with "salmoriglio alla pozzillese", or an emulsion of oil, drops of lemon and oregano. The swordfish festival is at every edition very crowded, attracting many visitors from all the centers in the district.
The previous weekend, on the occasion of the initiatives proposed for the patron saint Santa Margherita, the "Octopus Festival" takes place in the characteristic little square on the sea, with tasting stand, where octopus salads accompanied by good wine and music are served.
The festivities in honor of Santa Margherita end on the first Sunday of August with the folklore pantomime of fishing (in the morning) and with the fireworks fireworks that create fantastic light games in the night sky of August.
Finally, it is important to note that, during the months from May to August, the probability of enjoying sunny days is 95% (Sigonella weather station).
Pozzillo is an ancient fishing village where you can swim in a crystal clear sea among the volcanic rocks.
Set between the citrus gardens and the sea with the background of Mount Etna, Pozzillo is never crowded. It is therefore the ideal place for those who want to spend a relaxing holiday away from the chaos of the city and the clamor of the most famous tourist destinations.
Sea suggested for scuba diving, snorkeling
The sea is accessible both through a small distance in the center of Pozzillo and the lava rock cliffs
A public wooden platform has also been created that allows easy access to the sea even from the rocks and to sunbathe
