Guest Access:
The entire cottage is yours for your stay. The front yard is a shared space while the backyard is closed off for your privacy.
The Neighborhood:
The Ardens in North Wilmington Delaware, are a charming and historic community known for its artistic spirit and close-knit community. Established in 1900 as a utopian village, The Ardens boasts tree-lined streets, eclectic architecture, and abundant green spaces. The neighborhood is renowned for its vibrant arts scene, including theater productions and annual events like the Arden Fair. Conveniently located near downtown Wilmington, Arden offers a peaceful retreat with easy access to downtown.
Getting Around:
Getting around Arden and the surrounding areas is convenient and straightforward. The neighborhood is just a short drive from major highways like I-95, making it easy to access nearby cities such as Wilmington and Philadelphia. Public transportation options are also available, including bus services that connect Arden to Wilmington and other nearby towns. We recommend having a car but ride shares like Uber and Lyft are available.
Other Things to Note:
Since most guests and the hosts have dogs, we communicate by messaging so that all the dogs get a good share of yard time and that there are no loose dogs in the yard when guests are coming and going.
The cottage is in the woods near open fields and waterways. You may see or encounter wildlife during your stay. This includes deer, foxes, raccoons, spiders, mice, bees, wasps, spider crickets, and ants. These creatures reside in nature. We do not control Mother Nature and therefore do not refund you if you encounter her business during your stay.
Renting weekends, weekly, or monthly to travelers and business folks who are looking for more personalized space. The cottage is cleaned with a 1:10 bleach solution by me personally. I am also a registered nurse so cleanliness is a top priority.
Cats are NOT permitted.
All dog breeds and sizes are welcome here.

Susan met us at the gate. As soon as we walked through it to the right was a large pile with an old door, old windows and other items that should have been thrown away. Along the stone covered path back to the rustic cottage were rusted piles somewhat concealed by weeds. We had to drag our bags along the rocky path to the cottage. The king size bed is enclosed by three walls so that if you're sleeping with another person you must crawl over them to exit the bed. We couldn't get on the internet (must have been given the wrong connection name.) The TV went in and out. We stayed there less than an hour while looking for a hotel.
We told Susan we couldn't stay, and she agreed to return half of our $960+ four-night fee. A couple days later, she instead said she would give us a credit for the next time we're in Delaware, and we could use her cottage which is on the street. We don't think we could trust her since she reneged on her first offer. AND we certainly don't want to stay in any place with discarded debris.

The property is not as advertised.
We arrived in the evening. We were led by the host, Susan past what appeared to be a very large trash heap, through overgrown trees and bamboo and other growth to a cabin. There were several pieces of furniture, apparently discarded, along the way. Susan said it was a very unkempt property. There were several bags of dog poop by the door to greet too! She said she did not have time to clean up. She instructed us to just kick our dog's poop into the bushes in the back yard rather than pick it up. Yuck! Gross! How much poop was waiting for us or our dog to step in? The back yard was overgrown. The fire pit was not usable. There was un-cared-for furniture next to the fire pit that was not usable. There was no discernible path to any creek that I could see. The inside of the cabin smelled dank and musty and gave us headaches. The curtains, where there were curtains, were not suitable to keep people from peering in. Finally, she told us that she had two aggressive dogs on the property and that we should let her know when we would be taking our dog out so she could put hers inside. We told the host, Susan, that we would not be staying and would expect a refund. She said we would have to call Vrbo for any refund. We contacted Vrbo and Susan agreed to refund all but the first night as long as we did not post a review. We agreed. When we did not get our refund, Vrbo contacted her and she said she is not refunding anything. Don't stay here!

I enjoyed my stay at this Rustic Cottage in the woods. The cottage was exactly as advertised. The owner Susan and her daughter Emily were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Having a private fenced backyard for my two dogs was a bonus.

Orchard Road, Wilmington, Delaware Cottage
We had an enjoyable stay at this quaint artsy cottage. Quiet area with a lots of places to walk our dog, met several of the neighbors walking their dogs - nice folks - nice dogs. The cottage was neat and clean, the owner was great. Great location to visit the tourist sites in and around Wilmington. Plenty of places for food nearby. Definitely will return.

Rustic Shack
This experience was absolutely terrible. It was the worst place I've ever stayed in!! No exaggeration. The owner lives next door in a pig sty of a place - garbage strewn all around her house as if she pitches garbage out the door. The place is very uninviting. It was filthy, lacked basic items and it was like walking through a muddy, tangled jungle to get to the place. Our feet were black with dirt after walking around the shack for only a few minutes. My wife found a Swiller to clean the floor but that was nearly futile. The place should be levelled! Barking dogs wander unleashed around it. The bathroom had no place to even hang a towel; no dish cloth or tea towels in kitchen; no stopper in the sink to wash dishes properly; everything needed to be washed before using; there was no toaster and we had to ask for one from the owner. The place smelled like rotting straw - worse than a barn. We worried about mold. No sun hits the place to dry things up. If we had seen the place before we'd rented we'd have not set foot on the property. We "made do" only because we'd already spent close to five hundred dollars. A place like this gives VRBO a very bad name!!! Does no one check out the places that VRBO puts on their website? Appalling!!!!!!!! We will be very leery of any VRBO listing in future. (There was one positive review on the website which has to be a fake!)

Great getaway experience
I've had a great time with my wife and son, the cabin was nice, plenty of hot water, I enjoyed using the fire place during the cold days, and it was very rustic and quiet type backing the Woods with creek, it is a nice joke when the weather is warm. Susan and her daughter Emily were very nice, kind and accomodating, they are always available to help their guest with any needs, while repecting their privacy. I would definitely recommend this cabin. Also, it is close to a nice mall, supermarkets, and shopping areas, so you get that quiet secluded, feel while being able to shop at nearby stores.
Thank you susan for everything.
