About this cottage rental
'Bijou, cute, amazing, lovers' retreat, honeymoon hideaway' - these are just some of the words used by recent guests to describe our lovely stone cottage. Set in a private garden with access to a private pool, it's the perfect romantic setting.
The cottage exterior shows inspiration from a typical Alentejo style cottage but step inside and it is far from typical. As you bow your head to go through the old original door you are greeted by a double height space with a mezzanine floor, on which is set a pretty double bedroom. The 'saloio' (peasant) style kitchen has everything you need, including ceramic hob and washing machine, and the bathroom is stylish and modern.
The stone floor throughout has underfloor heating, a rare find in Portugal, and the whole building is fully insulated, making it great for cosy winter stays.
The cottage is set on the lower terrace of a private terraced garden in the heart of Sintra. It is in such a quiet location that you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet the historic center of Sintra is just a 2 minute walk. Seems impossible but it's true! Guests have their own private garden and terrace in front of the cottage, with amazing open views over the countryside to the sea. On the upper terrace of the property there is a private pool and another garden with lawn and table tennis area. Please note that because of the nature of the landscape there are many steps involved and therefore it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.

What a fantastic rental experience! A beautiful, sparkling clean house "for two", surrounded by the most charming garden/courtyard and amazing views of Sintra...all just a few steps from the historic center's shops, restaurants and National Palace. Carole, the owner, provides everything you need to be comfortable, fix yourself breakfast, do a quick load of laundry, etc. I have no doubt this is the best place to stay in Sintra and we hope to return soon!

This place was great. It was charming, comfortable and cozy with amazing views from the front patio. The host was amzing and very helful. The kitchen was stocked with every thing for breakfast including fresh bread. We had an amazing stay and would stay here again if we ever came back to Sintra.

The pictures didn’t do this accomodations justice - this was such a romantic little place with a spectacular view! Carole was fabulous hostess and made us feel right at home. There are other accommodations on the property but it still felt very private. If you get a chance take a late night dip in the beautiful greenhouse pool. The B&B is close to all the major sites in Sintra, it’s also very close to the beach which can be reached via car or tram.
Cons (which aren’t a reflection on the B&B but rather the area):
- Sintra is a VERY busy tourist destination which is something I wasn’t quite prepared for. It wasn’t enjoyable walking about with 1000’s of people and we found ourselves perfectly content in our very quite/private B&B
- if you rented a car and will be driving here, prepare yourself lol. It’s not for the faint of heart. Roads are beyond narrow, a million other drivers / walking tourists and google maps is not the best. Make sure to really read over the directions before hand and do a meditation and a pray ;)
- our room was also quite hot in the bedroom loft and a fan would have been a lovely addition

A serene bit of heaven in the perfect location!
While this property is a very short walk from the center of Sintra, it is surrounded by beautiful, quiet gardens. The cottage is well-appointed and perfect for two! The pool is indoors and heated. The host is unobtrusive and friendly! I definitely recommend this cottage for your stay in Portugal!

Sintra Cottage
What a lovely place! A bit hard to find, but once we were three Carole and Stuart were very gracious, and the place is delightful! 5 minute walk to town, great views, a small yard and outdoor sitting area, and a nice little kitchen with a washer. Perfect for our time in Sintra!!

A perfectly situated little cottage with a stunning garden overlooking the valley, only a few minutes walk from the centre of Sintra.
The property is tastefully furnished with modern facilities and everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable is provided.
The garden is a riot of colour with flowers in abundance and has many little seating areas. Our highlight of the stay was regular visits from a male Redstart and watching the birds of prey soar high above the valley.
Our hosts Carole and Stuart made us so welcome and were on hand if needed but at the same time respected our privacy. Carole kept the breakfast items topped up and provided fresh bread every day.
There are lots of information leaflets in the property and ideas for days out, Carole also suggested some other places such as Tapada National Park near Mafra which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is a short walk into the town and Sintra train station is about 15 minutes on foot where you can catch a train to Lisbon, many buses also leave from outside the station and some can be caught in the town without having to walk too far. There is so much to do in Sintra and the outlying areas, there is a regular bus which does takes you to the palaces and castle but I would suggest if you are staying in Sintra to take your time and visit one attraction a day as you need time to fully appreciate each place.
There are also lots of places to eat out which cater for every budget, the waiters are friendly and most speak English, we tried different restaurants and were never disappointed.
There are lots of shops in Sintra, many sell traditional tourist items but you can buy food from the little grocery stores. There are also places where you can buy freshly made sandwiches and beautiful pastries.
It was certainly a holiday we will look back on as one of our best, we took so many lovely photos to remind us of our stay and can certainly recommend Sintra as a holiday destination and the beautiful little cottage as the perfect place to stay.
Thank you Carole and Stuart for making it happen.
