Among the most important events it is necessary to underline in particular the organization of the Christmas Market, which takes place annually during the period of December, where you can visit numerous stands; in July the Festa del Prosciutto, festival dedicated to the delicious salami produced precisely in Sauris and the curious and traditional Carnival, the oldest in Italy, the flagship event of the location where you can come directly into contact with tradition by getting to know the typical masks of the Sauran carnival: Rolar and Kheirar that kick off the party starting from the famous "Night of the lanterns" in which the characters gather the public and lead them through a suggestive night walk in the woods and conclude it with the characteristic ritual of sweeping away the winter, but not before having tasted the typical local products.
The Chalet PA ’MAURAR is a typical house of the place and each room is furnished according to the most traditional Sauran custom. It is located a few steps from the ancient village and overlooks the forest of Mount Ruke with a panorama of the ski slopes and the whole valley.

In Sauris Time passes slowly, at over 1400 meters above sea level, the valley of Lumiei is considered the most secluded and unspoiled of Carnia.

Since the end of the thirteenth century the valley has been inhabited by German-speaking people, originating in Carinthia, who have preserved their traditions in the medieval dialect, both in popular and religious culture and especially in gastronomic culture, acquiring over the centuries at the same time the sense of belonging to Carnia and Friuli.
