About this house rental
Welcome to Alfred House & Cottage, a spacious, luxurious, and secluded beachfront estate with an oceanfront heated private pool on the north end of world-famous French Leave Beach (formerly Club Med Beach). There are no houses between this house and the mile-long beach of pink sand where a Club Med once stood, the most sought-after beach location on Eleuthera. The ocean is turquoise, shallow, and historically safe, having served Club Med well for many years. Children love this shallow beach. Enjoy thousands of feet of deserted beachfront, extensive ocean views from every major room, and the sound of the ocean from everywhere. There is excellent snorkeling right off our property.
Enjoy our new ocean-view pool! The pool can be heated for your comfort for a charge of $500 per week.
Alfred House is located just a mile from the main town, Governors Harbours, which has some excellent restaurants as well as grocery stores, gift shops, liquor stores, a bakery, and a fish fry street party every Friday night that is not to be missed. Walk to town past the lovely restored captain’s homes dating from the 1800s.
Alfred House is a 5000-square-foot, 6-bedroom island style home (including a one-bedroom cottage), located just 25 paces from the beach. The house was designed and decorated to reflect the laid back feeling of the cabanas at the Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda. Both the upstairs and downstairs of Alfred House have a wall of glass-paned mahogany French doors, so as you move through the house, you see the sea at every turn. The house is furnished with comfortable deep sofas, custom pieces made of teak, mango, & cherry woods, and large black and white photographs of movie icons. There are Honduran hardwood floors, cypress cedar ceilings, and marble and slate tile washrooms.
Downstairs, Alfred House features a vast great room that looks out through a wall of glass patio doors at the beach and ocean. The open-plan kitchen faces the ocean, and features custom wood white shelving with shell encrusted stone counter tops. Appliances are stainless steel. The kitchen island is capped with a ten-foot teak counter with matching teak bar stools.
There is a king bedroom master suite downstairs with an ocean view and a en-suite full bath. Also downstairs is a second full bath with walk-in shower.
The upstairs of Alfred House has four more bedrooms. The two huge upstairs master suites have king beds; spectacular ocean views, big decks, and full en suite baths. The two smaller bedrooms have two twin beds in each.
The upstairs also features a huge media room, another gathering spot, which faces the ocean and shows turquoise water through several french doors.
The upstairs sun deck, with its grand row of Honduran mahogany shutters, runs the length of the house (60 ft), with miles of beach and ocean views.
Outside on the first level is a lovely covered patio adjacent to the pool, a shady spot for enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the ocean. The floor of the terrace contains a lovely mosaic of a conch made by a local island artist. The patio has seating for dining or lounging.
The one-bedroom beachfront guest cottage 25 yards from Alfred House has a huge 1100-square-foot teak wrap-around deck overlooking the sea. Inside, the cottage has 1000 square feet, a large great room, full kitchen, separate bedroom, and a full bath. The living room has potential for two rollaway beds which can be set up, so the cottage can sleep up to 4 guests. (A charge of $100 per week applies per rollaway bed.) Alfred can sleep up to 14 guests in all.
Five of the six bedrooms have ocean views. One twin room has a pond view.
Amenities include full AC, large flat-screen TV in the media room, NEW SUPER-FAST STARLINK INTERNET, satellite TV w/100 channels including HBO, CNN, FOX, and BBC, a gas grill, and a washer/dryer.
NOTE: During the peak spring and holiday seasons, rates are for up to 12 guests. During the rest of the year, the off-peak rates are for the first 10 guests.

Alfred House was perfect for our family of 8 adults and 3 children. Great floor plan with lots of room with comfortable furniture. The beaches were fabulous. Casuarina Bay (right in front) was a little rocky and steep but good for snorkeling. We loved French Leave beach- the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Beach was flat and easy for the children to play on. We had one windy day and drove (10-15 minute walk) down to Twin Coves- another gorgeous beach sheltered from the wind. Alfred House is a great location with a number of great restaurants close by- 1648, Tippy's, Buccaneer Club and Da Perk for breakfast! We also had Josh (local chef) cook for us one night- great food and rum punch! Yes the road is bumpy but well worth it. The interior of the house was very clean and beautiful but the exterior and upstairs porch could have been pressure washed- but I understand weather on a beach can be harsh on homes. Also the dishwasher leaked and stove was a little old but worked. Nothing that would stop us from returning for another fabulous week in this beautiful house and location!

It’s beautiful, we would definitely stay again. The location is epic! Amazing beach right outside the door, very close to town. It’s technically across the road from the beach, but it’s a little dirt road (more like a driveway). A few fast moving cars. We rented the optional cottage, which is on the ocean side of the “road”. It’s very cute. Be sure to rent an SUV as the road is very poorly maintained.
Comfortable furniture - Pottery Barn level. Beds extremely firm (not to my taste, but good for some). The upstairs “primary” suites are quite nice, but sorely lacking for a place to sit. Nowhere in house is good for remote work. Off of the bedrooms is a huge uncovered porch, but devoid of furniture, so not useful.
Net connection is terrible. There are two LTE providers in the area. If you see a Huawei modem in a photo it’s the wrong one. The villa we rented a few miles south used the (much better) other provider. We roamed on our cell phones instead. I note for the owner that Starlink is now be available on Eleuthera.
Staff were ok. Several told us that the owner doesn’t have good relationships with trades on the island, and it shows in their availability. We had a handyman issue that lasted all 2 weeks. We hired our own cleaner because hers (included in the rent) was sick. Owner declined to reimburse us.
Aside from these issues, we would definitely rent again. Hopefully this helpful feedback doesn’t preclude that!

THis is may second stay at this home. This home really needs updating. There is mildew on lamp shades, drapes. All the walls need repainted. All appliances need replaced. This home is not being taken care of.

This home, location, beach, and service of the manager and caretaker were exceptional. Eleuthera is an amazing experience, and this home made it even better. Our large family of teens and young adults was comfortable and had plenty of room to explore and relax. Matthew is unbelievably responsive and answered all my questions nearly immediately (and I had a lot). Christine (the caretaker) and her husband are just precious people. I hired her to cook dinner for us every night. Her food was delicious and was an exceptional value. I’d 100% recommend hiring her for meals. I saw some complaints on previous reviews about the road to the home…here’s the deal, folks…you’re going to a tropical island and renting a secluded home that basically sits on one of the most beautiful beaches you can imagine. The road is passable, and that’s all you need. If you’re looking for a posh resort, there’s just nowhere on Eleuthera that’s right for you. If you want an adventure, but want luxury and comfort, this home is it.

Have worked on Eleuthera and have personally become a frequent visitor to the Island mostly from Rainbow Bay to South Palmetto Point. Alferd House location is a perfect private and relaxing experience. The beach access and the pool make it ideal. One thing that may make the house more endearing would be outdoor furniture on the second level decks outside the living room and bedrooms. Great stay regardless as in my thoughts no bad stays on Eleuthera. Heading back in September and again in April.
Cheers

This is a beautiful home in an absolutely stunning location. We loved listening to the waves pound the reef at night and the wind in the palms. Both the main house and the cottage were spotless and are beautifully decorated in a clean, fresh and timeless style with ultra-comfy couches, gorgeous big wooden doors that open to the breezes and a lovely little pool. The kitchen was terrific and the layout great for our family of 12. We loved the cards and puzzles that came with the house, too. The only suggestion for improvement is that some of the linens could be updated (a few had stains and tears or didn't quite fit the beds) and WiFi was a bit spotty but the TVs were great. Christine, the housekeeper, is an absolute gem. She made check in and check out super easy and we had her cook an amazing local meal for our first night --one of the best values and meals of the week. We hope to be back! Thank you to all who helped make this a memorable trip.

I am about to be “that person” who says they never write bad reviews but in this case it’s true. I am typically a handle any issues outside of leaving reviews kind of person but I wish I would have been warned of these things before we spent as much money as we did to go to Eleuthera and specifically the Alfred House. Pros: the house is beautiful, the beach in front of the house to the right has amazing snorkeling. We saw sea turtles, a barracuda, and so many beautiful fish. This side of the island the water is a bit rougher than the other side but we still found it amazing. It’s also very private. We practically had the beach to ourselves for several of the days. Matthew who you book through is incredible and so helpful. The kitchen has everything you need for a large group. Cons: the road to get to the house is VERY rough. It has quite a few pot holes, lots of tree roots and the brush on the side was overgrown and scratched the sides of our rental cars. Thank goodness the person we used for our rental cars warned us of how bad it was and didn’t give us nice vehicles because of it. Christine, the house manager, was a bit hit or miss. We had a little issue the first night we were there of her getting upset when we couldn’t keep up with her driving to the house (we had 3 cars following her and we landed after dark so it was a bit tricky). We also had a hard time getting ahold of her once we were there to get questions answered and sorted. The grocery stores in Governors Harbour have very limited supply of fresh produce and meats, just a warning. The wood floors of the house are very noisy but most of us had kids and slept with a sound machine so that made it better when some people were walking around upstairs. The pool is also really nice but it’s very cold. Of course, we wish it was heated but not a huge deal. Overall, we felt like the house sadly wasn’t worth the price and effort

The island was not so beautifull as expected. Very expensive, poor supermarkets. But the beaches, marvelous. The house rented, the place were the house was lactaed, for sure, the best. Couldn ́t be better. We enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving, went to different islands and beaches, running from the house to different trails. Our stay at Alfred ́s House was perfect.
