About this apartment rental
Imperial Beach Sand and Sea Retreat is a 3-level condo located 1/2 block from the sand in beautiful Imperial Beach, California, the most southwesterly city in the continental United States. The beaches are wide and sandy, and Imperial Beach is a laid-back little town, with less traffic and fewer beach crowds than most other beaches in San Diego.
Within a 5-minute walk, you'll find at least 8 casual restaurants, two coffeehouses, two neighborhood taverns, a convenience store, a small grocery, two public parks on the beach, an ice cream parlor, as well as the main lifeguard station, the sheriff's substation, and the Imperial Beach Pier.
The condo includes 1050 square feet (98 square meters) of living space on two levels with an attached two-car garage below.
The garage has a roll-up door and remote opener and is suitable for one large vehicle and one small vehicle. There is a full-size Kenmore washer and properly-vented dryer in the garage. The garage also holds the extensive beach gear, which includes high-quality beach chairs, beach towels, a beach cart, umbrella, body boards for kids and adults, two bicycles and even basic fishing gear (fishing off the Imperial Beach Pier, about 500 yards away, does not require a fishing permit).
The middle level consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen and half bathroom. The living room includes a 47' LCD flat screen TV with HD programming and HBO, DVD/CD player, secure wireless internet (at no additional cost), a leather corner unit and two leather chairs. The dining table includes 6 chairs but will seat 8 comfortably (there are two extra folding chairs). The kitchen includes full-sized refrigerator, gas stove and oven, built-in microwave and dishwasher. All normal housewares are provided including cookware, flatware, plates, glasses, and small appliances. The half bath contains a toilet and a pedestal sink. The small patio in front has two chairs, a cocktail table and a propane-fueled grill.
The top level features two bedrooms separated by a full bathroom. Bedroom #1 has a queen bed, twin bunk beds, a large wardrobe and 3-drawer dresser. Bedroom #2 has a queen bed and a 6-drawer dresser in the large closet. There are also two folding cube mattresses suitable for kids. All sheets and comforters are provided. All beds are in good condition, are comfortable and have good reading lights. Each bedroom has an alarm clock and a ceiling fan. The bathroom was completely renovated in December 2013 and includes a bathtub with tiled surround and tiled wainscoting all around. Lots of clean towels are provided.
The Neighborhood: Imperial Beach is a small, laid-back town of about 25,000 people and it's less busy than most beach areas in San Diego County. There are at least 8 restaurants within a 5-minute walk from the condo. There is a surprisingly well-stocked 7-11 convenience store and a taco shop about 100 yards away, and two coffee houses within 200 yards. There are many fine restaurants including several at the Hotel del Coronado, in the beautiful and very exclusive city of Coronado, located about 7 mile north of Imperial Beach along the 'Silver Strand' that separates the Pacific Ocean from San Diego Bay. The condo is located on Palm Avenue, which is a major street further to the east, but by the time it gets to the beach, it's a two-lane road. To get to the beach from the condo, it's a walk of about 200 yards crossing one street, Seacoast Drive, which is controlled by a three-way stop sign.
The Beach: Imperial Beach has wide sandy beaches, all of which are publicly accessible. The surf is excellent, the area just north of the Imperial Beach Pier and another area about 1 mile south are among the best surfing locations is Southern California. The City of Imperial Beach has been working to emphasize the surfing theme, and the plentiful public art reflects that. There are two beach-front public parks within walking distance of the condo, one at the foot of the Imperial Beach Pier. The pier is about 300 yards long and there's a restaurant at the end. Even at prime time on weekends. it's easy to find a place to set up at Imperial Beach. No alcohol is allowed at the beach or in the public parks and the public places are very family-friendly. Imperial Beach is not a 'party' area compared to other San Diego County beaches such as Mission Beach or Pacific Beach.

I was so thankful to stay here! We were super busy and it was nice to have a home away from home to come back to. The location is wonderful(albeit dangerously located across from a candy shopš)!

We had a great time staying here. It was spring break so the beach was a little cold but it's such a cute town with so much available within walking distance. My kids loved looking for shells here.

My family and I loved staying here. Having 2 bedrooms with lots of beds in the kids bedroom was great. The location was really nice and having a garage for our car was a huge plus. The kids loved playing at the beach and we were only 30 minutes from seaworld and the San diego zoo. Would happily recommend this place to others.

Great week at the beach, there was plenty of space for our family of 4 with 2 small children. Only downside was the No AC and it being a heat wave that week. All the beach toys, chairs, towels was awesome you really only need to pack yourselves! I do feel like it could have been cleaner but I understand back to back tenants little things can be easy to miss. Would recommend a stay here if you had the chance!

Location, perfect!
Property, clean and safe!
Scott, prompt communication, friendly, provides so much Information about the home and the area. We ended up not being able to access the beach nearest to us, when finding this out Scott proactively offered us a partial refund!
Thanks Scott! You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.

This is a great place to stay. Clean, spacious, full of little extras, very convenient to San Diego. We also like the smallness and realness of Imperial Beach.

The property was great and fit the needs of our trip. It is geared towards families and those looking for a great Imperial Beach experience. The property is about a block from the beach and has numerous shops and eateries within walking distance. The beds are comfortable and everything was just as described in the listing. The host, Scott, was great and provided in depth descriptions of the property before we arrived. We would definitely stay here again!

About as good as you can get without beachfront view, beach is a block away. The strip offers a perfect balance of restaurants. Every day staying here was a good day for a walk on the beach or down the strip. House offered the necessities as listed and felt like being home. I canāt say enough. Forgot something? Two convenience stores 50 steps from your door. Thanks for let us stay at your home.

Beach retreat
This condo was above and beyond my expectations. Scott does amazing work to make sure any style of guest (single, family with teens or young children etc.) Is accomodated.
The fact that I could walk to the beach every morning and evening was amazing. The accomodations that were already instilled in the house (beach chairs, wagon, boogey boards, bicycles, recycling, trash, car garage etc.) were an added touch.
One of the best aspects of this condo was the guest book-I learned of so many places I wanted to see, eateries, etc. All from previous guests. Truth be told they were all spot on.
Working with Scott was the best experience. Whenever I had a question he was there to respond- even on his own international vacation! I felt as though I was on vacation but also at my own home and if anything was needed-Scott could be there as needed.
I look forward to returning in the future and making this my West coast vacation spot when I am not on the east coast.

We had a fabulous stay!
This location puts you within walking distance of more great restaurants and shops than you have time to visit. The beach is only a couple of blocks away and the pier is close enough to walk to also.
Many evenings my husband and I would relax on the balcony with a beverage and cool down after a day of play. One evening there was a band playing at the coffee shop across the street for our entertainment! I would suggest checking with the coffee shop to see if they have live music scheduled. I know they had live music twice at least during the week we stayed.
This rental is roomy and comfortable. I was impressed with how well stocked it was. From toilet paper and tissues to towels, there was plenty of everything.
We had rented a car so it was wonderful having a garage. The best part of the garage was all the extras that were in it. We made good use of the wagon, beach chairs, umbrella, beach towels and cooler. There were even ice packs in the freezer! Scott really has thought of everything! My suggestion is to load up the wagon, stop by Katyās CafĆ© for fixings for a picnic lunch and head to the beach. Katy and her staff put together a simple but tasty picnic lunch for the group of us on our daughterās wedding day. At Katyās CafĆ© you must also go at least once for an Acai Yogurt Combo.
We also did the suggested churros at Sombreroās. Had to do that more than once!
Our daughter chose Imperial Beach for their destination wedding. With the help of Dream Beach Wedding, this beautiful beach and ideal weather it was a perfect day! To make it even better the ceremony was followed by an afternoon of sailing with Fun Cat Sailing.
We highly recommend Safari Park. We paid the extra for the caravan ride and that was definitely a highlight. We also rented a tandem bike and toured around Coronado and did a kayak tour of the La Jolla Sea Caves. I wish we would have known about the Sunny Jim Cave which is the only cave you can access by foot.
There are so many attractions to lure you away just make sure you save enough time to enjoy what is right there at Imperial Beach. Walking the pier and watching the local fishermen was another favorite of ours. Catching the sunset from the pier or from the Sea 180 Tavern is also a must.
Communication with the owner was easy. Thanks to Scott for making our stay in Imperial Beach a positive experience. I would love to come back to check out Ye Olde Plank Inn just down the street.

Excellent location
Our family had a blast staying at the condo. Scott has everything you would need for a beach location. The wagon was useful for carrying all the beach gear and our kids enjoyed the body boards. Scott was even nice enough to bring us fresh veggies from his garden when we arrived.
We loved staying in IB, it was close to our family that we were visiting. Plus the beach and many different restaurants were all within walking distance. Our kids loved having the candy store right across the street. We went into San Diego several times during the week plus Mission Beach and La Jolla and it was usually only a 30 minute drive.
The only discomfort was that it did get pretty warm upstairs, even with the ceiling fans on. Their was an oscillating fan that we used but it did not help too much. We are from the Midwest and are used to air conditioning. Maybe having two high efficiency fans would help circulate the air better. This would not stop us from booking the condo again for our future visits.
Thank you for the hospitality Scott! Canāt wait to come back.

Awesome location and nice unit.
Great unit with everything we needed. The parking garage was nice to have and it was easily within walking distance to great food. Loved being able to walk every morning on the beach. Look forward to coming back again someday!

Beat place in San Diego!
The condo was absolutely beautiful in a perfect location. Everything you could possibly need for a great vacation. Imperial Beach was so nice, especially the sunsets. Great food in the area and not too busy. Very close to Coronado and close enough to all the attractions. I highly recommend a ride to La Jolla and the kayaking tours there. Overall, this was the nicest condo and I highly recommend Scott. He pays attention to every detail and is certainly always willing to wot answer questions. We will be back!!

Amazing location, unit, and amenities
This condo is spacious and well maintained. The bedroom with a queen bed and bunk beds perfect for a family. Other bedroom great for an additional couple.
The location was amazing with the beach a block away, restaurants all around, and bike paths nearby. I would pick Imperial Beach over any other location around San Diego.
The unit was stocked with everything we could want for the beach. The chairs and wagon were great.

Great house!
Scott was awesome! He was very accommodating and communicated regularly. The house was spacious and clean. Tons of beach stuff available for use. The information boxes left at the condo about food and attractions was great. I would definitely recommend this and hope to return soon. Thank you Scott!

Perfect location in IB!
Besides being directly on the beach, this was the best location possible for Imperial Beach. It was easy to walk one block to the beach and to all restaurants, shops. Scott, the owner, was so responsive prior to the trip. His information at the condo (and prior to arrival) was so thorough. The garage filled with beach chairs, towels and toys was so convenient. The kitchen was well-stocked for cooking and the beds were comfy. We enjoyed going to Sombreros right next door to get fresh churros each evening. The Friday night farmers market and food tents were also fun. It's an easy drive to all north attractions but IB is so mellow and uncrowded. Great experience overall.

very satisfied
The property was as described and it was well furnished. The accommodation was clean and well maintained. There were basic items left in the fridge like mustard, mayo, ketchup, and filtered water. In the cupboard were other dry goods like pancake mix, rice, oatmeal etc. all of these items were in good order, but not promised so it was a nice surprise! If you read the property description and what is provided you will not be disappointed. Really the only negative comments I have is to do with the street noise at night and the windows must be left open due to the heat and humidity.
Having said this I would recommend this property we always felt safe and secure.

Perfect location!
We loved the condo! It has great location - one block from the beach, restaurants are 5 minutes walk, great candy and ice cream store across the street and a small store next door. The condo is nice and clean and fit perfectly for our family of 6. The garage had all the stuff for the beech - we used body boards and beach chairs, there was even stuff for the kids to play in the sand and the cart to bring all these to the beach! And bikes.

It was an excellent vacation venue for our family of five. Great location, short walk to beach.
Had great communications with the owner, even though he was abroad in Japan. The house had all the amenities one could wish for, especially a full kitchen and parking access for two. We are planning to book the next time that we are in San Diego.

Comfortable place!
My family had a great time in Imperial Beach! The condo had plenty of room and was close to everything. It was nice to have a garage so we never worried about parking even though we really only drove to the San Diego Zoo! We walked everywhere! In the mornings it was so enjoyable to see the beach and the sleepy little town. There are lots of restaurants in the area when we didnāt feel like cooking but when we do cook the kitchen was well equipped. We would definitely love to go back!
