Beautiful Eco-Friendly Farmhouse with gorgeous montain view!
About this farm stay rental
At our farmhouse we have 2 units that we usually rent separately. Here we are listing one of our Studio that can sleep 2 people and the price is for 2 people. This is a Studio that is organised also for hosting disable people, wheelchair users. So it is on the ground floor and it's a very large room with 3 windows and a door with glass, that has a double bed (or 2 single beds) and in a corner has a fully equipped kitchenette. We can add a single bed for a third person, may be a child, but you have to be aware that you will sleep all together. The bathroom is large enough as well as the shower that can be used by wheelchair users. Please look at property 1419100, that is our other Studio. So in total we can host 4 people ,adding an extra bed maximum 5 people. We have cots for little children so each Studio can host a baby in a cot. Just in case I want to let you know the price of the second Studio, the separate Studio is exactly the same of this little unit. We also suggest you to contact us before booking because we can offer a discount on longer rentals and we can offer you a better accomodation considering your needs ! Our small organic farm sits on a hill along Lucca’s beautiful northern countryside in the hamlet of Aquilea, with stunning views over the Valdottavo valley, the high peaks of the Apennines, and the National park in the distance. We produce our own olive oil, bake our own bread, make jams from our own fruit trees, prepare home-made yoghurt and classic Italian sauce from our own tomatoes, and grow a variety of vegetables. Our solar powered and beautifully restored farmhouse has 2 comfortable, fully furnished apartments that will feel like home the moment you step inside! Each has its own entry on a lovely terrace where you can relax and enjoy outdoor dining, including pizza from a brick oven. At our above ground swimming pool, guests can enjoy sunbathing with an incredible view. Our love and respect for the environment can be seen in our organic farm with free-range animals, olive groves, a vegetable garden, and fruit trees. We use solar panels for hot water, to help with the wood boiler heating system, and to heat the swimming pool. We chose an above ground, moveable swimming pool because it has less environmental impact. We have two gazebos near the pool with photovoltaic roofs. Here a car is really necessary. Driver service: If you don't feel like driving, the owner or one of her relatives can be your driver and guide: they can pick you up at the train station in Lucca or at the airport in Pisa or Florence, bring you to the farmhouse to get settled, help you to visit undiscovered surroundings and Tuscan beautiful towns. This kind of service has to be arranged in advance before your arrival, because at the last minute when you are here it can not be assured. Cooking lessons and catering : You can learn how to make classic Italian dishes in our large country kitchen and enjoy your meal in our lovely dining room. The owner speaks excellent English and is a talented cook. You can choose the menu with her, deciding what you would like for your delightful cooking lesson. If you do not feel like cooking, ( when possible) you can enjoy being catered authentic Tuscan dinners If you do not feel like cooking, you can enjoy being catered authentic Tuscan dinners (a full menu from starter till dessert) for €35 per head with excellent local wine included. If you are looking for a wonderful in the country experience, visit Lella on her olive farm, Agriturismo "Abbacca-là" Apartments near Lucca She embodied the heart of Italy in her hospitality. We had many great experiences of watching the sunset over the valley, cooking lessons, learning Italian and just relaxing. We chose the Lucca area as our anchor point. It is beautiful place to visit but also close to so many other places within an hour or so; wine tasting, Cinque Terra, marble quarries, small towns, beaches as well as Siena and Firenza.
The accomodations are farmhouse motif and the hospitality is warm and welcoming. The road up is very winding, but keep going. You will get there.

The apartment are well equipped, the bed was very comfortable and most of all, the view was fantastic. Lella was a wonderful host. Thank you very much :)

This was a very nice place. The family was busy with olive harvest so having meals there was not a viable option. The one meal we did have was great. If we could offer any suggestions it would be to maybe upgrade the linens.
You definitely need a car for this location. It is located at the top of a very winding, hilly road.
We would stay here again.

We have been visited several locations in Italy, we have seen lots of good places in the last 15 years since we are regularly traveling around the country. But we have never arrived as a guest and leave as a friend from anywhere. This fact maybe tells everything about “Abbacca-là". We really enjoyed our few days here very much. We worked, cooked and laughed together with Lella and the whole family. Wish everybody will have such amazing experience as we had here. Oh, yes and we had never written any feedback before ever!

The location and description of this property appealed to us immediately, but we were concerned about renting a car and driving the narrow mountain roads. Fortunately, our host Lella offered us the option of having her do all the driving for us! That was the perfect arrangement for our group of four ladies, exploring Tuscany without our husbands. Her response time was very fast, when we were emailing back and forth, and her English was excellent. We rented the large apartment and the adjoining smaller unit, which were very clean and comfortable with everything in good working order. The rustic stone farmhouse and surrounding countryside was charming, and so was Lella! She welcomed us into her kitchen for breakfast each morning with homemade breads, yogurt, cereals and jams from their fruit trees. This was an option we were very happy to have, as it gave us time to visit with Lella about the area, and Tuscan life in general. We also opted to have her make dinner for us on our arrival day, which she brought to our apartment that evening. We spent a couple days exploring Lucca, riding bikes on the wall, sitting in various piazzas sipping wine and sampling delicious food, and attending an evening Puccini concert at church of San Giovanni. One day, we did a road trip with Lella to Barga, past the Carrara marble quarries, through several mountain villages and on to a coastal resort town. Gorgeous scenery, with the best tour guide around. I highly recommend doing a cooking class with Lella also.......it was a highlight for us, as it was our final day at Abbacca-la. Also on our last day we hiked up to the church ruins which was challenging, but well worth the views.
Lella’s customer service went above and beyond our expectations. She created a personal connection with us, treated us like we were her longtime friends, laughed with us, anticipated our needs. We all came home to Iowa with olive oil from their trees......bringing a little living part of Abbacca-la with us to savor, along with our memories. I would highly recommend this place!

Abbacca-la` is truly a hidden gem in the Lucca area. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils for cooking. Speaking of cooking, Lella, the owner, instructed us how to prepare focaccia, veal appetizer, a chicken dish and dessert. Then we ate and drank wine outside enjoying the beautiful vistas. Lella and her husband also drove us when we needed transportation. I highly recommend Abbacca-la`.

I can't imagine a better place to stay near Lucca. Lella is the most gracious hostess imaginable. In our four days at Abbacca-la she truly became a friend. Having just spent four fast paced days in Florence, my girlfriends and I were eager to escape the city and experience a more relaxed area of Italy. Abbacca-la was everything we could have hoped for and more. Lella's meals were entirely home cooked and amazing. She provided transportation to Lucca for two days of exploring on our own and then spent a day driving us to remote villages and then on to the coast. The highlight of our stay was her cooking class. There aren't enough superlatives to describe our experience. I would love to go back with my family some day.

Yes, the location was accurately described, a lovely olive farm in the hills above Lucca. The property was very well clean, comfortable and well maintained. Although the photo shows the front of the building, our apartment was in the back, limiting our views of the mountains and valleys. However the patio area where we had our meals was charming with shade and blooming hydrangeas and roses. We even were able to enjoy fire flies in the evening. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Donatella was very helpful, meeting us in Ponte Moriano, gave suggestions for day trips, Italian authors to read and local restaurants. We enjoyed restaurants and super market in Ponte Moriano. Donatella's cooking was divine. Day trips we enjoyed were to Lucca, Florence via train, Carrara, Barga, Borgo and walking up to the hillside church ruins. We also were interested in the local history of WWII. Although Abaccalla was more rustic than some places on VRBO, the price fit our pocketbooks. We are 2 couples in our early 70's.

We can only say good things about Lella's place. We regularly checked in, and the house was clean and well equipped. We had our own table in the garden where we could enjoy our dinners outside. The view is stunning. I went there by car, so it was easy for me. The place is a bit secluded, so you'll need a car of your own. Piece of advice: cooking class was really nice, and dinner afterwards was excellent! thank you Lella and Piero, we enjoyed very much! we definitely recommend this place.

This is the perfect place for vacation
Agriturismo Abbaccalá and the surroundings are beautiful. The view to the Apennine mountains is great.
Thank you Lella for your hospitality, kindness and letting us live at your property for 2 weeks. Everything was perfect. It was a great experience to be in Lellas cooking class. We learned how to make Pizza. We are ready to give it a try at home, well-equipped with Lellas own olive-oil and the right pizzasauce. We also loved the Tuscan dinners Lella prepared for us, served with local wine.
Nearby in the Apennine mountains there are charming villages. We had a lot of fun in Orrido di Botri and it was exiting to visit Grotto di Vento (the Wind cave).
With a car, you are quite near some of the highlights in northern Tuscany. Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terre (Liguria) and Florence. Florence is easy to reach by train from Prato Borgonuovo, where it is easy to park your car near the station. The train takes you direct to the center. Lucca is beautiful, there are no cars in the center, rent a bike and relax, listen to Italian Opera daily in the Church of San Giovanni (you don´t have to be an Opera-fan). If you like music, you can pay a visit to the annual Lucca Festival in july and hear worldknown artists perform in the evening. Maestro Ennio Morricone and 200 musicians gave us a wonderful experience in Piazza Napoleone. Watch the program and buy your tickets on the Italian website before they are sold out. The 5 villages in Cinque Terre are amazing. We hiked from Monterosso to Vernazza and visited Manarola. The view of Vernazza from the hikingtrail was fabulous, as well as watching the fearless young people jumping from the high cliffs in the harbor of Manarola. Our trip to Cinque Terre started at the train station in La Spezia.
We give Abbaccalá our best recomenndation. Lone, Allan, Mette, Claus, Agnes, Rebecca, Benedicte and Andreas from Denmark.

Lella is very nice and helpful! And cooking class is so much fun! We had the best focaccia here! The view is beautiful too. Great place for vacation.

The adventure begins as you make your way up the winding road to this wonderful farmhouse. Fortunately, the owners provided an excellent set of instructions. With those instructions and our GPS, we found the home with no problems. Lella was warm and welcoming and made us feel at home immediately. There is a beautiful courtyard beside the home where you can dine or simply sit and relax. We found the accommodations spacious with more than enough room for the four of us adults. The washroom is particularly large with a window that looks out over lush hillsides.
One of the real treats of staying at this farmhouse was getting to participate in one of Lella’s cooking classes. Not only was it a lot of fun and a good educational experience, the opportunity to share in the meal that we had helped to prepare was wonderful. Pasta never tasted so good and the Semifreddo was amazing.
During our stay, we took a ride on the walls of Lucca, spent a day exploring the towns of the Cinque Terre, enjoyed a visit to Siena, and drove the beautiful road (SP13) from Barga to Seravezza – a very scenic ride with little traffic.
Do yourself a favor and visit this beautiful region of Tuscany. You won’t be disappointed.

Our family of 4 arrived late in the day after our drive from Florence. Upon arrival we were ecstatic as the farmhouse was everything we could have hoped for and more. Lella was so thoughtful and her preparations made us feel most welcome. Not only did she show us the property, but we were provided dinner even on such short notice, and with two young children, we were so relieved after a long drive. During our week we had cooking lessons and wonderful breakfasts with Lella. Her cuisine is as good as it gets, and what a wonderful environment her kitchen is! With the view from the window and the fresh produce from her garden it was inspirational. I will recommend the farmhouse to all my friends and family and we certainly look forward to returning. Thank you Lella again for everything!!

Our family of four stayed at this beautiful villa and property. Lella and her husband were wonderful hosts and even provided pasta and sauce for us to make dinner our first night after a long drive. There is a large grocery store nearby which was very helpful for us since we were trying to limit our eating out everyday. Lucca and Pisa are an easy drive from the property. Be sure to walk the trail up to the monastery ruins. It is not as far or as hard a hike as it looks and the view is worth it. We love our apartment and felt right at home.

There were 5 of us visiting, ranging in age from 24 to 74 years old. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable and inviting. The farmhouse is nestled in the mountains with an old Spanish ruins about a 30 minute hike further up the hill. Lella and her husband were wonderful hosts. We took a cooking class with Lella that was outstanding!! One of us was gluten free and one was a vegetarian and she had no problem accommodating us. We made traditional Tuscan dishes using local grown ingredients. The olive oil Lella makes herself from their olive trees. It was the best meal I had in Italy. Lella also made us breakfast in the morning, homemade yogurt, bread and jams, again outstanding. I would highly recommend a visit here, a quiet, beautiful, and thoroughly enjoyable vacation. Thank you Lella

Lella was a great host. She showed us the property and offered us suggestions on where to eat great local food and where to go to taste and purchase wine. We took a cooking class with her and the food and wine were wonderful. My kids loved making the pasta and the dessert. Great location to stay and to travel to Pisa and Cinque Terra. Be sure to purchase the olive oil that they make there! Thank you for a wonderful Tuscan experience!

Lella was the perfect host. She greeted us warmly, and smoothed our ruffled feathers from our stressful trip. Beautiful apartment with outdoor dining area. We loved opening the windows in the morning to the view of mountains and vineyards. Great nearby restaurants, after driving down the mountain. She gave excellent advice on places of interest to go, how to get there, where to park. Lovely areas to walk nearby, and ripe figs! The biggest highlight for us was a private cooking class which was all vegetarian and gluten free, and delicious. We made pasta with fresh vegetables, breads, focaccia, desert, and ate al fresco with fantastic local wine. We stayed five nights and enjoyed every minute of our time.

This wonderful property and our gracious hostess highlighted our family's first visit to Italy. We were warmly welcomed by Donatella, and she helped make our vacation a special one. Be sure to take a cooking class from Donatella. Great fun and delicious!

After researching where to stay during our most recent holiday in Italy I happened upon Abbacca & whether fate or just plain luck what an incredible find. It was important for us to find somewhere close to Lucca so that my husband could do some research on his ancestry that came from the area in the early 1900's. In spite of us not having a car, Lella was most helpful with assisting us with our transportation needs. Lella also helped interpret our family documents as well as talking to local villagers regarding the history of my husband's family. Ultimately we found the parish priest who was absolute key in our ability to view the original church documents. Whether opening their farm house to weary guests, providing cooking classes to interested guests, helping with historical documents, or sharing her favorite picturesque Italian cities, Lella couldn't have done anything more for us. Relaxing at Abbacca would have been a terrific find, in & by itself, all the other items of importance mentioned put it over the top for us. We can't wait to be able to return to Abbacca. This time for a longer period of time. All the reviews are absolutely accurate.

My husband and I stayed here and had a very nice time. After arriving, we decided that we didn't want to rent a car. The owner was very accommodating and drove us to and from Lucca. She prepared a wonderful Italian dinner and we enjoyed getting to know her and hearing about her family. A very memorable night. The rooms are very clean and well equipped. Views are lovely. Thank you, Lella.

Abbacca –la is set atop a beautiful, steep sided valley and is just 20 minutes out from Lucca. Views to the mountains from the house are truly stunning. The apartments are well equipped and very comfortable. Lella is a perfect host, eager to help but not at all intrusive. Having read all the previous reviews we were beginning to doubt whether it would live up to expectation, but it did! It was easy to explore nearby Lucca, Pisa, Florence and the coast. We loved it, our teenage girls loved it and my elderly in laws had a wonderful time. Lella cooked a delicious meal for them while the younger members of the family headed into Lucca for one of the Summer Festival Concerts. What a wonderful place to spend a week.

We have nothing but great memories and high praise for Lella and the farmhouse Abbacca-là. From the first email exchanges to the day we departed Lella was there for us. I have been to Italy many times and always visit Lucca, where we have family.
We have stayed in various hotels and homes but this time we wanted to experience living in a farmhouse. Our stay was in the smaller of the three apartments which had plenty of room for my husband and I. We found it impeccably clean and comfortable. Although we did not use the kitchen much it was fully equipped. The farmhouse was a great home base for our day trips while in Tuscany. We looked forward to coming home after our long day trips to Florence, Pisa, Volterra, Montepulciano, Lucca, Sienna and the Chianti region, all easily assessable.
We took hikes around the farmhouse where we bathed in the beauty of the hillsides laced with grape vines and olive trees.
The charm, comfort and hospitality will bring us back to Abbacca-là. Departing was very sad for us.
We will most definitely be back and next time make time for a cooking lesson or making pizza in the outdoor pizza oven.

Had a lovely time with Lella. Lella mananaged to 'save the day' when I got my arrival dates wrong and emailed at the last minute that I was arriving with 2 babies and nanny in tow. The farmhouse looks out onto lovely mountains is close to Lucca and other Tuscan treats (wine-tasting!) and the house was large enough to contain 4 adults and two babies (grandparetns joined us). Cokkery course was very impofmantive and delicious. Lella's husband judged it too cold for the pool and looked at us asa if we were mad when we even suggested it! [Soft southeners] Apart from that the facilites were grand.

Lella and Piero, I need to tell you that I am so appreciative of the visit that I spent with you in October of 2008. I have been sharing all my pictures and wonderful memories of my stay with you- since I had never traveled alone I was somewhat concerned about my decision to travel to Italy as a single senior citizen. But no fear -- all discussions with you before I left tampa told me I had made a good decision- and THEN I met you both- a warm welcome perfect accommodations, cooking class, lemoncello, private guided tours by Lella, wonderful meals provided by you and just the wonderful feeling of feeling at home. Even Tino and Rex were part of the ambience. Hopefully I will be back again this autumn-with much improved Italian. Best regards,Diane

Our family of 5 had a fantastic time with Lella, Pierro and their faimly (which included the dogs, Tino and Rex). The Farmstay is perfectly positioned to Florence,Pisa and the Cinque Terre. Lella's cooking is to die for and her cooking class was a highlight. You couldnt find a more family friendly, value for money location in all of Tuscany

We (two nephews, nephew's wife, grand nephew, grand niece) had a fabulous week at Lella and Piero's farmhouse. Thirty eight years ago I had lived a year in the nearby beautiful hilltown of Barga, but I am very glad we stayed in Aquilea because we could visit bustling Lucca and Barga during the day, then retreat to "our" farmhouse to relax. Everything was fabulous, we wish we could have stayed longer. We already very much miss Lella, Piero and the dogs!
