9. A Wildlife Sanctuary With A Cocktail Hour !
Located on the scenic North shore of Kauai, in Kilauea at the doorstep of the luxurious Princeville Resort lies Hale Mana, a three acre multi-million dollar private estate. Hawaiian for 'house of spiritual awakening' Hale Mana does not disappoint.
This plantation style home is perched high on a volcanic ridge with pristine, 360-degree views of the ocean, valley, mountains, waterfalls and river below. The valley itself is home to numerous ancient 'heiaus' or 'places of worship,' so sacred only the high priests and chieftains were allowed. Back on property you will discover "Kahelelani" or "Stairway To Heaven" where you can picnic, meditate or simply behold the breath taking beauty from this unique observation point 200 feet above the river valley floor. Or chose to relax in the incredibly stunning Zen Meditation Garden. The valley is also home to a National Wildlife Refuge protecting rare and endangered avian species. During the day tropicbirds, frigates, albatross, and nenes circle high above the home as if to form a halo. And at nightfall, under a giant dome of starry wilderness, you can drift off to sleep to the melody of the nearby waterfalls. One of the most unique and pristine properties on the planet - Kauai at its best!
All told, Kauai is NOT the hustle-bustle of Honolulu or the touristy madness of Maui. To visit Kauai and Hale Mana is to travel back in time to a bygone era, to a more peaceful and provincial existence, where words like on-ramps, freeways, and smog have yet to taint the universal consciousness. It’s a sanctuary where skyscrapers are replaced by palm trees and busy intersections with one-lane bridges. And following closely in step are the islands most precious natural resource... its' people. For them, words like community, family and neighbor are still spoken with reverence. Mainlanders call this warm phenomenon the 'Aloha Spirit' and it’s as certain to welcome and embrace you at Hala Mana as are the prevailing trade winds.

The property is a very unique home to stay in.

Beautiful home with lots of space and amazing views. Words cannot describe the beauty and scenery, definitely has the WOW factor! We would definitely stay again!!

If you are looking for peace and quiet with incredible views, this is the place. This won't be your spot for ocean front living as this is positioned to be different from that. Fantastic place to stay. Thank you!

I don’t think I can add anything more that has already been said in the reviews. This property is absolutely stunning. As others mention, photos do not and cannot do this home justice. The trees, stream, waterfall, cliff, birds, rainbows, it’s all magic. Every room / window has something interesting and beautiful to look at. It was absolute paradise. The home is well equipped and all interactions with the owner and property manager were great. We received a warm welcome and loved the house tour and information we received from Bryanna. We are so grateful we got to experience this gem.

This is a very unique place to stay with incredible views. It has a cascading river with many mini-water falls, a verdant jungle, singing birds, flowering trees and the ocean in the distance. There is a very steep bluff on the property and young children would have to be carefully monitored. My family is eager to return.

The views are absolutely unreal!! We spent so much time on the decks visiting and admiring. The house was perfect! We had 7 adults and my 3 young kids and the house felt like the perfect size. I would recommend it in a heartbeat!

We took the family to Kauai for Christmas. The house was amazing. Spacious, clean, amazing views, and probably the best equipped of any place I’ve stayed including kitchen and outdoor/beach equipment. Excellent host. Excellent information about the island and beaches. Thanks for a great trip

The property location is a little remote but is wonderful and the well appointed house has ample space for our seven adults and an infant. The view down to the river is dramatic and the elevated position of the house gives amazing views to the ocean. We had a great time.

This home sits on a simply extraordinary piece of property - like nothing I have ever experienced before (and I've rented a lot of great properties). I spent hours upon hours just sitting in the backyard, taking the expansive tropical landscape and waterfall. If you love stunning nature views - this home will not disappoint.

What can i say!!! The pictures on the website were beautiful BUT.. the actual experience even surpassed the website. I have never been on a more tranquil property. Just sitting
On the deck overlooking two waterfalls was a meditative experience. The huge bathtub also overlooked the waterfalls.
Neil and Barb were wonderful hosts. My whole experience was exhilerating.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hale Mana. Very close to beaches, yummy restaurants and amazing views. Bryanna is very welcoming and quick to respond to any questions we had.

This has to be one of the most beautiful and picturesque places on earth. Neal was an amazing host and our stay was beyond amazing. Where else can you fade off to sleep to the sound of a stream and waterfall and wake to beautiful views of the ocean. We only wished we had more time. A return is a must for us.

If you’re truly looking for a place to feel the beauty of the island, enjoy spectacular views and tranquility look no further. I would definitely recommend staying at this property.

Our stay at Hale Mana exceeded all expectations. I rarely post reviews but felt compelled to let others know what a wonderful vacation Hale Mana provides. The beauty and comfort of this home was exceptional. It was perfect for our family. Thank you to Breanna and Neal for a warm welcome and a beautiful VRBO. We will return!

Unbelievable and stunning property overlooking a beautiful waterfall.Enjoyed waking up to the flight of egrets, such a tranquil sight. Had a wonderful time with the family. The house is spacious and gave our family of 6 adults plenty of room.

Beautiful property with stunning views! Layout of the house worked perfectly for a family reunion with 3 families and a couple of kids. Location was great, with many beautiful beaches in the area.

You will absolutely not regret booking this property! If you can afford it, do it! It is the sort of experience and view that at some point could be a place that charges admission to the public, the kind of view you would hike miles to see, but its right outside your door each day and night for you to enjoy the sights and sounds. I was grateful for each step in my and others' lives before me that somehow got me to be able to enjoy this spot. Seriously. Just amazing. Just as pictures cannot do it justice, words won't cut it either. The 3 acres of property are incredibly landscaped and surrounded by the most incredibly stunning tropical views. The floor plan is very spread out, so worked well with parents and two young adults with different sleep schedules. We booked a 10 day stay and were glad to be able to relax and take in the views and sounds on site. The sweet neighbor dog Emma greeted us warmly when out for a stroll. A stray tabby kitty played hard to get except for the very last day when he didn't want us to leave. The toads greeted us on driveway at night (don't touch!). We visited several nice beaches that Neal, the owner, suggested. Enjoyed amazing fruit and baked goods from Farmer's market (get there early!). Great hike on Nepali Coast (shuttle reservations!). Great restaurants close by. Neal was great-easy to reach and greeted us at house upon arrival (and our plane was late!). Very cool he honors his beloved family members on the property...look for that, ask him about it! Two tips for the house-bring cozy lounge wear since it's a little chilly in the mornings, no heat in home, which is not uncommon. If you forget, they have cozy fleece throws in closet in master bath. Also, when using master tub, like I did often, expect it to fill (only) half way and make sure the hot water tank is not being used otherwise. Tank takes another 45 minutes to recharge. 1/2 a tub is plenty of water, just plan for it. Rent this place, you will be amazed!!!! Paradise on earth.

This was an absolutely beautiful refuge from the hustle and bustle of life on the mainland. Peaceful and serene. Communication with the property manager was excellent and relaxed. Had a wonderful time.

It is very rare that places exceed your expectations but this one did! My wife was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer so we wanted to plan a trip where we could spend some quality family time with our adult children and their spouses. We wanted a place that we could just relax and enjoy while the kids went out and did their adventures. Hale Mana was incredible! Our hostess Breanna (I think that was her name) met us at check in and was so pleasant throughout the process. We have recommended this place to anyone that will listen.

Everything about this property lives up to what other reviewers have already posted. From the moment we checked in with Bryanna everything was perfect. She had great recommendations along with the folder in the house. The location is perfect to be able to visit the island from one side to the other. But beyond that, the house was AMAZING. Pictures do it justice but pictures can't tell you the feeling you get while you are there. The views are beyond stunning. From every corner of the home and the property we were simply awed. The home is a vacation on its own. We didn't feel guilty come home early each day from our outings because the views rivaled much of what we saw. The house had everything we needed - from cooler and snorkeling gear to extra mini fridge for drinks. We loved every minute of this place and are grateful for the stay.

Words are not enough!
We stayed for a week with our family and adult children. The house was great - the views (on all sides) simply cannot be described with words. The pictures in the listing are accurate...but you simply have to experience them for yourself! We spent alot of time just sitting on the porch enjoying the fresh air and views into the canyon! The location was convenient for everything we wanted to do. Neil and Bryanna were super easy to work with and we would for sure stay there again on a return trip!

Hawaiian Wedding
An unforgettable wedding experience in Kauai. In Hanalei where we shared our vows the view was spectacular and the day was amazing. But we’ll never forget our home away from home - a little piece of Hawaiian paradise in Kilauea.

Magical and breathtaking
Hale Mana was magical. The home was spacious, and the river, waterfall and ocean views were stunning! We loved Bry who welcomed us with a short tour of all the amenities the house had to offer, even setting the morning coffee for us. We felt the aloha the moment we walked into the front door. We had the most relaxing experience and can't wait to book our next stay there. Mahalo nui Neil and Bry, a hui hou!

Stunning views
We sat outside for the entire first day just staring at the scenery from the various decks. The manicured lawn is an adventure in itself. I thought it was a bit bigger from the pictures but it didn’t matter. It. Was. Beautiful. Beds were comfortable. Everything worked as it should. The kitchen is a bit crowded if you have multiple people but it is very functional! Lots of towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards were available and appreciated. Nice breeze with windows open, no need for air conditioning although it does work well! My son likes to sleep with it on and was very comfortable (single unit in bedrooms). I read another review about the roosters being loud in the morning and yes, we heard them, but it wasn’t a big deal. The master suite has a lovely view of the waterfall side of the valley and you could hear the water more than anything. All bedrooms but one have patio doors with access to the wraparound deck. Loved the outdoor shower too. Just a lovely home! Neil was wonderful to work with and. we would absolutely stay here again!

360 Degrees of Stunning Views
As previous reviewers stated, the pictures don't do this place justice. I did a ton of research before booking, and expected it to be beautiful--but I had no idea. My family of 4 (with 2 teenagers) spent 6 nights here, and it simply wasn't long enough. We kept thinking, "this can't be real."
I intentionally booked on this side of the island. I wanted to be away from resorts, but with access to conveniences. It's about a 20 minute drive to Hanalei, 30 minutes to Kapaa, and about 40 minutes to Lihue. We only ate out for dinner, and usually it was in Hanalei. Most of our activities (kayaking. hiking, boating, and helicopter tour) required waking early and driving 30-40 minutes. We even took an in/out trip one day to Oahu flying out in the morning and returning in the evening. It was a piece of cake. We did not mind the early waking and driving because this house was exactly what we were looking for in a rental.
When we arrived, the owner's niece greeted us and showed us around. She gave us all of the insider tips and made herself available for anything we needed. The rental is well-appointed with anything you need to be comfortable. We were grateful for beach chairs, bodyboards, coolers, and umbrellas for our beach time.
I didn't do much cooking, but everything I would've needed was there if I chose to! For those who like to sleep in the cold, each bedroom has a Daikin unit that kept us plenty cold. During the day, we opened all of the sliders/windows and relied on the tradewinds to keep us comfy. We especially enjoyed the light feature on the big coconut tree out back only visible at night. Truly incredible.
The area is very safe and the locals are so incredibly friendly. We got to meet the owner on our last day as we were leaving. Such a nice man who is so grateful to provide aloha to his guests. We hope going back to this gorgeous place is in the cards for us.

Magical and enchanting!
This is probably the best vacation rental that we have ever stayed in (and we have traveled a lot and stayed in many VRBO properties over the years). It was wonderful in every way, but the views and the peaceful solitude were the best! I loved getting up in the morning and watching the sun rise over the water, seeing the tropical birds flying down the canyon, hearing the sound of the water in the river far, far below, and of course the roosters crowing in the far distance! The master bedroom is out of this world with so many beautiful artful touches. The kitchen was fantastic. Neal and his niece Bryanna were terrific hosts, thoughtful and attentive, and very responsive when we had a question. There is plenty of room indoors and outdoors for guests to spread out. There is a lot to do on the North side of the island and in a week we only scratched the surface. I can't wait to come back and spend more time here.

Beauty, Perfection, Mesmerizing, Love
We took our mom to Kauai for Mother’s Day and we were treated to an experience we couldn’t have ever imagined. Neal wrote to us well in advance of our arrival to welcome us and provide directions. Bryanna came by the day after we arrived to check in on us. Bryanna made my moms day very special and they shared a special moment together. My mom hasn’t stopped talking about Bryanna since she met her. The home is perfection and unlike anything you will ever experience again. It’s beauty and feeling can’t be captured in pictures or video. You’re surrounded by breathtaking ocean, jungle, river, and waterfall views. There is a special tree on the property that lights up at night. Our family watched it every evening and talked about our memories of the day. We prepared several meals at the house and enjoyed our view of the ocean every morning and evening at the dining room table. The wrap around deck is perfect for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. All bedrooms have magnificent views but the master bedroom and bath have unforgettable views. Falling asleep to the sounds of the waterfall every evening was pure bliss. Thank you for sharing your home, creating memories we will cherish for a lifetime, and making this trip special for us.

Mana Mazing
Neal and his niece Brianna we’re perfect host’s. Brianna met us there in person while we were checking in and gave us a really thorough tour of the home and its grounds which was super helpful just to get our heads wrapped around what was available. Neal’s place is off the charts picturesque. My wife and I have been the Kauai many times. This is as nice and unique of a house and location that we have ever stayed at. We took my in-laws as a Christmas gift this was our first time ever in Kauai. So it was just the four of us and we were swimming in space. This would be a perfect place for four couples or two families lots of room. The master bedroom is enormous it’s basically a one bedroom studio with a large living room area and they large master bathroom. The only thing I can remember that just wasn’t perfect was the also massive walk-in shower has a marble floor that is extremely slippery while you’re taking a shower. Not sure what you can exactly do about that but maybe a nice teak wood slat shower floor insert would look great and not be super slippery. Kilauea is generally The area we like to stay in. The views of the Kilauea Stream Valley with all its waterfalls and lush green ridges are as beautiful as you will ever see.

A life-changing experience!
We had a wonderful week. Incredible views, a fantastic layout, proximity to secret beaches, and the charming town of Kilauea, make this property superior to any other property we stayed at on the North Shore.

Our Idea of Paradise
The house and location far and away exceeded our expectations. Great views, secluded yet accessible, quiet but for the sounds of nature (bubbling stream, birds, warm Hawaiian breezes). The house floor plan was perfect for us and the views from every window were terrific. A number of times we were able to spot whales while sitting on the back deck (with the help of binoculars). We explored Kauai but truly loved spending time here as much as anything else we did.

Paradise!
Neal and Brianna could not have been more wonderful! The house was spacious, clean, and the view too spectacular for words. Their tips on beaches and sites were spot on. Would stay here again.
Wish they had more snorkel gear and beach boards though!

We had a magical experience here! The views are unbeatable!!
We loved this property and rental. The hosts were so gracious and made the entire process so easy! The house was gorgeous. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the sunrise! Would definitely recommend if the house is available for your stay!!

A Rare Sanctuary
The host, Neil, and his niece, Breanna, are incredibly kind and real. Even before we arrived, the communication was quick, responsive, helpful, and extraordinarily welcoming. This house is a rare sanctuary in a more chill part of Kauai- it has 360 degree views of the emerald rain-soaked mountains, the protected bird sanctuary and waterfalls, and the ocean. The space is open and airy with a beautiful deck for sitting outside and soaking in the bird and waterfall soundscapes. It was hard to leave and I feel very thankful to have the opportunity to stay in a place that has such good energy and abundant peace and solitude. Already planning to return! Thank you so much, Neil.

Spectacular natural setting and beautiful property
Words simply do not do justice to the beauty of the property. The landscaping is gorgeous - filled with native flowers, shrubs and trees all of which are impeccably manicured. The house is set on several acres overlooking both the ocean and a gorge with tropical trees, plants, flowers and breathtaking waterfalls. It was so peaceful, all we heard all day long was birdsong and rushing water. We saw whales breaching in the ocean and millions of stars in the sky at night. At sunrise we watched flocks of beautiful white egrets fly up from the ocean toward and then beyond the house to their daytime feeding grounds. At nightfall we watched the same migration back to the ocean.
The home itself is beautifully appointed with large open spaces, lovely Hawaiian artwork in all the rooms and every convenience you could imagine including multiple TV's with access to movies, a large kitchen with every gadget and appliance one could possibly want, and plenty of bath towels and beach towels. The owners thoughtfully included an ample supply of spices and staples like sugar, dish soap and sun screen. They even set the coffeemaker so that we would have fresh coffee on our first morning since our flight got in very late on the day we arrived. The owners also included a selection of beach equipment for us to use which was a wonderful surprise - boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, even snorkeling equipment. We could not have asked for a more relaxing vacation in paradise!

Exceptional Experience
From the minute we booked this property, Neal and Barbara were warm, welcoming and accommodating. Their kindness was a nice primer to our arrival at their exquisite property where they met us for a personal tour. The house is spacious, open and beautifully maintained. It is appointed as a lived-in home with curated art pieces and amenities that feel more like staying with friends and family than a rental. The views and surrounding property are some of the best on the island. If the natural beauty isn’t enough, the lone coconut palm off the back lanai shines with “tree fairies” at night We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and are excited to return.

Hale Mana was more than we expected. From the booking process to the stay, Neal was informative and answered all of our questions/concerns promptly. The property is absolutely beautiful with lush landscaping to a gorgeous onsite waterfall. Would highly recommend anyone heading to Kauai to stay at Hale Mana to enhance their Hawaiian expericence.

Magical location and beautiful views
Hale Mana is an incredible home and we really enjoyed our stay, the home and the views. Waking up to see the Kilauea river and waterfalls from the main bathroom the morning after our nighttime arrival, and the mountains and Rock quarry beach in the distance, felt like a dream! While we left the property many days to explore the island, our time at the home every morning and most evenings felt magical. Neal and Barbara were excellent hosts and we can’t wait to go back!
