About this house rental
Enjoy magnificent unobstructed views of the ocean, Diamondhead and Waikiki from this historic vacation home while living in a spacious, updated house with loads of amenities. Plan your day, drinking a mellow cup of Kona coffee on the lanai, deciding whether to go to Hanauma Bay, the North Shore, Pearl Harbor or a beach on the Windward Side of the island. Drive 5 minutes to the expressway and be anywhere on the island in short order. The trip from the airport is 20 minutes. Come back home and relax while discussing the day’s adventures before heading for dinner in one of the restaurants in Kaimuki - 5 minutes away - or Waikiki – 2.5 miles away. Or prepare dinner in the large, well-appointed kitchen and dine on the expansive lanai while appreciating a gorgeous sunset. Before retiring, spread out in the roomy living room, watch the wide screen TV in the den, or play board games around the dining room table. There are two bedrooms – one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. The couch in the den also converts to a queen bed. There’s an easy parking spot plus plenty of off-street parking and free WiFi. A washer and dryer with detergent are available on the first floor, as well as an outside shower to wash off the beach sand. The house has lovely large side and back yards with mango, lychee and citrus trees and numerous flowering tropical plants. It’s situated on a steep street (hence the great views) and in a neighborhood where local residents go to work in the morning and come home in the evening – so there is street noise at those times. The rental unit is the entire second floor (22 steps up from the parking area) of a 2-story vintage Hawaiian home. There is a long term tenant on the ground floor who has a completely separate entrance. The manager lives right across the street and has received rave reviews for her advice and attention to tenants needs.

It was all so great!
Great house with amazing views! Super spacious and so breezy. Everything was very organized and readily available. We loved the kitchen! We did some cooking so having the best kitchen was a bonus. Location was good; it was nice to be away from the busy downtown buzz. Cristin is an awesome host! She is very responsive and helpful with everything. Check in / out was super smooth. It was our family's first time in Hawaii and staying here made our visit a memorable one for sure. Highly recommend and would stay here again. Thanks again, Cristin!

Best VRBO Home we have stayed at
We have stayed at a handful of VRBO properties over the years and this is by far the best one. For us, the location was perfect in that it lies far above the maddening crowd of Honolulu, and a short driving distance (make no mistake, you will need a car if you stay here) to local shopping and dining. The house was immaculate and you immediately notice the attention to detail, the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen are fully stocked, every shelf and cupboard is labeled and everything works and is in great condition. This is definitely a home, and not a barebones equipped rental. The view is spectacular both day and night, with a large deck for entertaining or just relaxing with a good book. The only downside is that if you have more than one car, parking can be a challenge as street parking is virtually impossible to find after 5 PM if there is no space on the driveway.
I lived on Oahu for 13 years departing in 2008 and it is rapidly changing with new residential developments and skyscraper being constructed, roads swelling with traffic and increasing numbers of numbers of tourists so this little peaceful oasis of Hawaiiana was a blessing to find.

We loved our rental. House has amazing views. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, grocery stores within 5 min of house. House is just a 10 min drive to the beach, waikiki, and really close to highways to explore the whole island. House has a breeze at all times, we barely used AC. There are fans in all rooms. You will not need anything, kitchen is fully equipped with anything you need, same with bathrooms, towels shampooh etc. Various fruit trees, which my kids were crazy for. Just a great place to stay. We will definitely go back for sure. And I should add that Cristin, house manager/owner, was just great. Always available, flexible and helpful. Just great.

Wish I could live here...
I stayed at the Mikahala house for a little family reunion trip with my husband, parents and brother this winter. The house was really wonderful. It is spacious, sunny and well designed to benefit from the breeziness of it's hillside location. The location is a little removed from the beach scene, but really only a 10 minute drive, and the spectacular views are worth the trip up the hill (especially the sunset!). I thought it would just be a good location as a launch-point for day trips (which it is, not far from the highway), but the location was even better than I expected, letting us access both nature and the city with ease.
It's a pretty and quiet residential neighborhood, but the garden around the house gives you the feel of being on a tropical island. And just a 5 minute drive to the top of the hill, we were able to start hiking along a ridge trail that feels like it's taking you into the remote interior of the island. I think you can make a full day hike out of it, but we were less ambitious and turned around after an hour, which was enough to enjoy great views, and the peace and quiet of the landscape. At the bottom of the hill are nice restaurants, cafes, a bakery and little shops where you don't have to feel like a tourist. It's a walkable distance, and the walk back up the hill is great if you want a workout after pastries from Pipeline Bakeshop.
We enjoyed a couple of the local restaurants, but since we like to cook as a family, we mostly enjoyed using the well-equipped kitchen and grill, and dining on the balcony overlooking the twinkly night-lights of the city, and the dark ocean beyond.
The house was very clean, tastefully furnished and seemed well cared for. It felt comfortably homey and it was easy to pretend like we lived there. The photos are accurate, if not an understatement. I would definitely recommend this to friends. The layout allowed our family enough privacy. The TV is in the 3rd bedroom, which is a convertible den/bedroom. We're not big TV-watchers (especially when there's Hawaii to explore!), so it didn't matter to us, but for a different group of adults, that might be a little inconvenient. We preferred watching ocean and rainbows.
Cristin was a kind host- she lives across the street and was available and generous with information. Writing this review has been on my to-do list for a while. I wish I could be writing it from the balcony of the Mikahala house! Hope to be back soon!

Gorgeous home and views
When we stayed at 1610 Mikahala Way we were astounded by its spectacular views. From the front lanai the impressive sight of Diamond Head greeted us. The dining room also had its own veranda facing the ocean. The huge front patio had a grill as well as tables and chairs to comfortably eat outside. We watched the sun gradually sink into the Pacific Ocean every evening while sipping glasses of wine. Afterwards we were greeted by the twinkling lights of Waikiki. With Hawaii’s winter temperature hovering around 80 degrees it was wonderful to spend as much time as possible out on the lanai.
Every room was light-filled and airy. Dozens of different fruit and flowering trees and plants filled the gardens.
The spacious contemporary kitchen was truly a delight. It was fully equipped with dishes, pots and pans and stainless steel appliances. It was heavenly to wake up in the morning to a cup of Kona coffee. We sampled the local cuisine of the many nearby restaurants. For breakfast Koko Head was our favorite. We went to Tamura’s to buy wine for our sunset drink and to sample the native dish poke. Walking along the Waikiki beach brought to life all the movie and TV shots that we’d seen. There were wonderful mai tais garnished with a gorgeous orchid and fresh pineapple to imbibe in the cocktail lounges by the ocean.
We definitely would like to go back and spend more time there.

I would highly recommend this house! The views were gorgeous, house was clean and well kept with tasteful Hawaiian decor. We BBQ'd and ate outside on the balcony every night. Kristen was very available and prompt with responses.

Home Away From Home
This May, my family of six had the great pleasure of staying at this vacation rental for two glorious weeks. Although the drive up the mountain can be a little hair-raising at first and the steps to the front door a little tiring when carrying heavy bags, those small inconveniences were well worth the awe-inspiring views from this home - Diamond Head, downtown Honolulu, Palolo valley and beyond to the sparkling blue sea and even the mountains overlooking Pearl Harbor way in the distance on clear days.
There’s actually a beautiful view of some kind from almost every room. It’s incredible! And don’t let me forget the many, many rainbows we saw from our home on almost a daily basis. For residents, Hawaii’s frequent rainbows are commonplace, but for us they were cause for great excitement and copious picture-taking. Another favorite view of ours was the tropical garden just outside the 3rd bedroom. It’s so beautiful and picturesque that almost as soon as I awoke every morning, I would pull up the shades and open the doors so I could enjoy the view and breeze. On the two Friday nights we were there, our family and a couple of friends enjoyed dinner on the expansive lanai while watching the weekly Waikiki fireworks display from our private perch. And every night we were treated to the spectacular view of the city lights and starry skies.
If you’re looking for a spacious, beautifully updated home away from home that is stocked with just about every convenience you could wish for, this is the place for you. This lovely home is in a residential neighborhood far from the maddening crowds and unpleasant congestion of Waikiki. It is perfectly located for exploring all parts of the island whether you’re interested in beaches, history, culture, shopping, dining, etc.
Cristin is a very accommodating and responsive hostess who you can completely trust to handle your payment not made through the VRBO site. We are very thankful to have found this gem and look forward to our next visit.

A Gem of a House
What first strikes you when you arrive at this sparkling house on a hillside are the gorgeous views of Diamond Head, Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. The house is spacious, airy, and filled with light. The comfortable and stylish living room has plenty of seating, the fully equipped kitchen has everything a cook could possibly need from pots and pans to dishtowels and serving pieces, and the long wooden dining table easily seats six. The large front deck has lots of seating, and a good size grill for barbecuing. Everything is spotless! The bedrooms are spacious and comfy, there are plenty of towels, including beach towels. The washer and dryer mean that you can pack lightly.
With easy access to the highway we were able to visit Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, the Honolulu Art Museum, Shangri-la, and too many state parks and beaches to name! Waikiki and Diamond Head and Ala Moana are minutes away.
Everything about our stay was perfect. Five stars!

Magnificent home, excellent views, great ownership
Our family just finished a one week stay at this beautiful home, and it was a fantastic experience. The home is immaculate, newly renovated with modern amenities and fixtures. The views from the deck encompassed Diamond Head, Waikiki and then down towards Ewa. The deck can easily host 8 persons. There were six in our party and the home was very comfortable and we did not feel cramped and the home has a bright, airy feel. Unlike other rentals, the home was fully equipped in both the kitchen and living areas. There is a laundry facility in the basement. Location-wise, the home is 10 minutes from Waikiki, Diamond Head and Kahala, and perhaps 15 minutes to Ala Moana. Cristin, the owner/manager, was great, very helpful and responsive.
All in all, this was a great time, and we will stay here again.

Spectacular Views and Perfect Accomodations for a family!
My family (four of us) rented this gorgeous home and didn't want to leave! We are still raving about this house to friends and family! The views are spectacular and we found ourselves rushing home in the evening to enjoy the sunsets. You can enjoy the amazing sunsets from the spacious balcony, the living room, the kitchen or the dining room. We could not get enough of the views. Aside from the sunsets, we were in awe of the multiple rainbows and double rainbows that appeared almost daily. The house was so comfortable and gorgeous. I enjoyed reading or relaxing on the expansive balcony or in the quiet living room. The bedrooms have plenty of space to hang your clothes or put them in drawers. We loved the kitchen and found everything that we needed in the drawers and cabinets. It was by far the most well appointed house that we have ever rented. We loved the location. It is close enough to do a daily run to Leonard's for malasadas and is close to everything that we needed. Cristin was very responsive. We really appreciated that she was so close and could pop over to assist within minutes of our call. We cannot wait to return to this house!

My daughter and I had the most amazing and relaxing vacation in oahu at this home! We loved all the space to spread out, comfortable beds and that we each had our own bedrooms. The gourmet kitchen had everything I needed to cook our breakfasts, including spices and baking dishes. If you forget your sunscreen or shampoo youll find extra from previous guests. You really feel like you are a guest of this beautiful home. It was fun to feel like a part of the locals. The neighborhood was so quiet, and views each day of the sunrise and sunsets were amazing. Cristin was available for any question I had as well. The location was very central to everything we wanted to do, whether going to the northshore, Pearl Harbor, Kailua or hanuama bay. I would highly recommend staying here over some skyscraper room in the concrete jungle of waikiki.

Great location! Amazing house!
My family of four stayed here for a week. We didn't want to be in Waikiki and so decided to stay in a different neighborhood. This neighborhood was awesome. We didn't even have time to explore all the restaurants we wanted to try. All within 5 mins of the house. My brother was getting married so we had to go to Waikiki often for dinner and other gatherings. It was a zip to get there.
The house was amazing. I can't even explain how incredible the view was. The landscaping was luscious giving it a real Hawaii feel. Everything the house is very modern and smartly designed. It was so comfortable to be there. The kitchen is equipped with anything you might need. It worked out great having younger children (6 and 8). They have nice outdoor space and a TV den. I would absolutely recommend this house to anyone visiting Oahu!

Awesome Home!
This home was the 2nd home we stayed in in Hawaii and we were so glad we found it. We had an amazing time with my family (6 of us) and we all fit comfortably. The couches in front room with the incredible view and outside lanai was spectacular. The owners/manager Cristin was so accommodating, which made our trip even better. Although we've lived in Hawaii for many years prior to this visit, it was a great homecoming staying at this home. We will be renting it again next year. By the way, the home has everything you will ever need and more! Thanks for everything Cristin.

We started our Hawaii vacation at this wonderful rental which we shared with a couple of friends. We had plenty of privacy and room to spread out. The home was very clean and well maintained with a great view of Waikiki. The large sunny kitchen was fully equipped with a 6 burner gas top range, lots of cooking utensils, gadgets and spices. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms had plenty of towels, beach towels, and nightlights.
The spacious front lanai had a spectacular view. The almost wrap-around view includes Diamond Head, the ocean, Waikiki and the Palolo Valley and hills to the west. We started our day with a cup of coffee on the lanai and made a daily ritual of having our first glass of wine there as we watched the glorious sunsets. On Friday evening we were entertained by the fireworks over Waikiki. We also enjoyed the charming private garden in the back with lime and mango trees.
It is easy to access the expressway and get to Pearl Harbor, The North Shore, and Waimea Falls Park. Diamond Head, Waikiki and San Souci Beach (not as crowed as the beaches at Waikiki) were 10 minutes by car.
Cristin, the manager, who lives nearby with her family, was a great resource and got us oriented at the beginning of our stay and she was helpful with all the questions we had.
We’d love to come back the next time we visit Oahu and would highly recommend this rental for 2 couples or a family who is looking for a lovely place with lots of homey comforts and a picture postcard view.

My 2 cousins and I stayed here for a two and a half week vacation last month. The view from the lanai is breathtaking! The pictures are accurate but nothing compared to how it looks when you are standing there yourself. We saw a rainbow almost every day as it rained in the early morning but cleared up just in time to spend a day hiking or laying out at the beach. Although it did rain on one of the days we were there, the place has Netflix and we enjoyed watching the PBS reruns of Doc Martin and The Vicar of Dibley!
The lime tree had fresh limes and we were free to pick and enjoy them. It was the inspiration for many a Cuba Libre in the evenings while taking in the stunning sunsets. The backyard was shaded by the lime tree and also a couple mango trees. It was a cool relief from the bright sun.
The home was very clean and welcoming. We had pretty much everything you could need to make wonderful meals on the 6 burner gas stove gas in the spacious kitchen. Plus there is a gas grill on the lanai. There is even an outside shower so you can leave the sand outside. What more could you possibly need?
We wholeheartedly recommend this home for families or a small group of friends. We look forward to coming back here ourselves sometime soon!

This house is absolutely beautiful, with top notch furnishings. The rooms are large and the kitchen is fully stocked with staples and utensils. There was even a bowl of fresh mangos from their trees! The view of Diamond Head, the ocean beyond and downtown Honolulu, especially at night, were awesome. The location provides easy access to grocery shopping, restaurants and the freeway. But since it's on a very steep street, a car is a must. Kristin and her husband were responsive to all our needs, and the downstairs tenants were very friendly. Despite the unusually high humidity during our stay, the AC in 1 bedroom and large floor fans served the three of us just fine. We would definitely rent here again, but note that there are about 30 steps up to the rental.
