..... with just a touch of history!
Built in the 1880s on land first granted to George Cox in 1839, historic 118 Mortimer has been renovated over successive generations of owners and now lovingly restored. 'Kythera' was once owned by the proprietor of Mudgee's historic art deco Regent theatre. The Mediterranean origins of past owners, from the 1930s through to the 1970s, is referenced through the columns and rendering as well as through the naming, 'Kythera'. The cottage and stables were built for the first owner, a blacksmith William Little. You will find the original stables fireplace still standing not far from where you park your car. In 1898 William Little sold the property to Patrick Kirby, named in the title deed as a 'boarding house keeper' (a facsimile copy of the title deed between William Little and Patrick Kirby hangs in the rear hall). You can see 'Kythera' has a long history in providing accommodation in the township and district! Steep yourself in the history of this special piece of Mudgee’s past, when next you tour the Central West of NSW.

Perfect location, short stroll to the city centre. House clean and comfortable, our children loved our stay there. Host cannot be rated highly enough, she was amazing. No where else I would stay if we visit Mudgee again.

The bedrooms are very beautiful. Having two full bathrooms was handy. We enjoyed the large bathtub. We played board games and watched Netflix. The kitchen had everything and was clean. Each afternoon we sat in the pretty yard under the tree enjoying dusk.

Very happy with our choice, house clean tidy & extremely well equipped.
Comfortable beds & good linen. Safe yard for dogs and a short stroll to every thing. Highly recommended.

Lovely old house in a very convenient location within walking distance to shops, pubs and restaurants. Traffic can be noisy at ‘peak’ times. This was our second stay at this lovely old house. It wasn't as clean as our previous visit and is looking a little worn now. Very well stocked pantry. We thoroughly enjoyed our Mudgee visit.

A lovely old house , comfortable , but needs a little updating . Excellent position, quiet , close to shops.
One drawback is that the big bath in the bathroom means that older people or those with a disability , have to use the bathroom in the laundry a few steps outside the back door .

Great location, beautiful house but a bit dated. Owner needs to read the guest book comments

Disappointed with the property. Really needs some repairs & loving. Heating is not adequate for a winter stay & it should be noted that 2nd bathroom & toilet is located outside the house.

Amazing house close to the town centre. Lots of space for kids and dogs to play outside.
The house has a lot of character, kitchen is a bit small for a large group (but we used the outdoor area)

Property was perfectly located in town, short walk to pubs, Woolworths, coles, big W and cafes. It is an old style house but super cozy with plenty of bedrooms. Would definitely stay here again if coming back to mudgee.

Property had had plenty of room, everything and more you needed and was a great place to stay.
Only constructive comment for improvement would be to have had lawns mowed especially staying with a dog who likes to wander around outside.

Excellent
Perfect base for our four day stay in Mudgee. Close to the town centre but very peaceful and quiet. Once indoors no outside noise at all.
One of the best equipped properties we have stayed in, with a kitchen fridge and pantry full of extras.
Very clean, comfortable, warm and well cared for.

Kythera Mudgee
Furniture in lounge room very cramped but comfortable, microwave seems excessively noise - problem with turntable but still operational & finally key/lock on back door should b sorted out as too easy to lock yourself out

Covid postponement
I’d love to say this is a review about how nice the property was. Sadly, Covid got in the way, so we have to wait to December to enjoy the cottage.
Instead I get to write about how understanding and accommodating Bobbie was. She allowed us to change dates without any hesitation, and for that she gets 5 stars.
Bring on December!

A home away from home.
We stayed at Kythera for a family wedding with 3 generations under one roof. It was clean and very comfortable. The two bathrooms were invaluable. The various areas of the house were good for groups to relax in. I was just sad that wee did not have more time there. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped. It is truly a home you can settle in.

Christmas with the family
House location is fantastic. House itself was a little dark for my liking. Plenty of room. Coffee table in lounge room is a little to big for the area.

Highly recommended
A most comfortable , well located , delightful old house . There were many thoughtful inclusions . If there were more than four adults , it might be rather cramped eating n the kitchen , but other than that , we could not fault it.
We stayed here a couple of years ago and were very happy to return .

Great Location Charming House
The property was great. We had 4 adults and 3 kids in our group and it was plenty big enough for all of us. The house itself showed the charm of an old 100 year old house and was set up in a way that made the stay welcoming and was functional. The external shower / toilet was a little bit painful in the cold weather that we had, but in the end we were really just grateful that it was a second option if needed. Being close to the main street meant that we didnt have to take the cars out unless travelling to the vineyards, and made it easy for us to duck out for lunch or dinner. Having the park 1 street over also helped wear the kids out. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be back to stay at this place.

Excellent Location, Warm & Cozy
Just loved how the house is situated in a quiet country street, you wouldn’t believe that Woolworths is 350m away, a fantastic Irish Pub 400m away, as well as so many other restaurants, cafes, shops, parks, Main Streets. The heating in the house is excellent, heats up instantly and the house is well insulated so definitely didn’t need it during the night.Beds are comfortable with plenty of blankets. There was a hair straightener, bathroom supplies, plenty of pantry items.Don’t pack any of these as woolies is so close. It isn’t too far to catch a taxi to wineries either- around $30 each way if you want to eat/ drink a bit more one day.

Great location and lovely home
Smooth transaction at all levels. Host was a great communicator and very friendly during our interactions. We were a family of 11 staying there and we had plenty of room. Bedrooms are massive and the 2 bathrooms were excellent. Great for a short or an extended stay.

It is well fenced to keep our small dog safe. The wineries were a highlight of our trip - we can certainly recommend this place
