Activities
Highlands Haven is centrally located in the Laurel Highlands area which boasts a ton of outdoor and indoor activities. The house is located in the perfect location on the way from Pittsburgh to Seven Springs Mountain Resort just minutes from the ski slopes. Seven springs is a full season resort with plenty of activities for every season. In the winter, Seven Springs is a ski resort with world class snow making in case winter doesn’t cooperate. Seven Springs has several restaurants, several bars, an indoor pool, sporting clays, snowmobiling and bowling to keep you busy if ski conditions aren’t good for a day! There are 2 more small ski resorts located 20 minutes away. Hidden Valley Ski Resort and Laurel Mountain Ski Resort are smaller resorts but are perfect for beginners and teaching the little ones! The Laurel Highlands offers a ton of activities for the spring, summer and fall as well. Spring and summer activities include hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, sightseeing, golf, wineries, caverns, parks, idle wild amusement park, sporting clays, zip lines, the alpine slide, pools and atv trails. Let’s start with hiking. Popular hiking spots include the Laurel Highlands Trail, Ohiopyle State Park and Bear Run Trails. There are a ton of other trails but those are some to to check out. My favorite are the hikes are Ohiopyle! If biking is your thing, then you are at the right place. There are plenty of downhill, single track and mellow trails in the area. Seven Springs resort has a good downhill course and you can rent bikes at the resort if needed. There are also a ton of single track trails around the resort if that’s your style of biking. If you want something more mellow then head to Ohiopyle and ride the scenic more friendly trails or just down the hill along Indian Creek. Next up is whitewater rafting! Ohiopyle State Park offers 3 rivers to raft. The upper youghiougheny is advanced, the lower youghiogheny is intermediate and the middle youghiogheny is beginner so there is something for every group. If fishing is your thing then head to one of the the many creeks and rivers to to some trout fishing. If the weather is not cooperating on your getaway then maybe take a day off the outdoor activities. There are several wineries in the area to check out that offer tastings, I would recommend Stone Villa and Greendance wineries. Both wineries are 20 minutes from the house and you can easily spend a hour or 2 hanging out tasting wine and relaxing. A good family activity to do especially if it’s raining is to check out laurel caverns. Another local attraction perfect for the family is Idlewild Amusement Park which has some fun rollercoasters and is perfect for the little one. Idlewild is 30 minutes away in Ligonier which is worth stopping to check out if you go to Idlewild. Another activity which I enjoy in Laurel Highlands is sporting clays. Seven springs has an awesome course and if you want to venture out a bit, Nemacolin Resort has a good course as well. Make sure to make a reservation. Nemacolin is a 40 minutes from the house and is worth checking out if you want to see Pennsylvania’s only 5 star resort. They have a small casino which is entertaining for a bit and a zoo on the property. There is another small zoo called living treasures 5 minutes from the house too which is a fun family activity. The other activities worth mentioning are zip lining, the pool and the alpine slide at Seven Springs Resort. This is a good summary of the activities in the area but I have extensive knowledge of the area and I can answer any questions to help you plan out your mountain vacation!

Great property for groups, with spacious rooms, well-equipped kitchen and fun amenities like hot tub and pool table. Perfect for family gatherings and outdoor activities. Highly recommended!

2nd time in 5 years we’ve used this space to gather for Dam Jams at Whipkey. House is very roomy, well equipped, great kitchen and awesome lower side deck. Didn’t get to try the hot tub but it’s a nice addition.

This house was perfect for our family vacation and plenty of room for all 13 of us! And was very clean. The location gave a very private feel but still close enough to many activities. We did a hike and whitewater rafting in Ohioplye State park, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Idlewild Amusement and Soakzone and Flight 93 Museum. At night we used the pool table and hot tub at the house to relax. It was a great vacation!

We had a great time, no matter where we were just having time with family. The house worked for us. There are not 2 twins in the room with a queen as was listed in the site. We had one person with chemical sensitivities, odors bothered this person. They were noticed by others but not where it bothered the trip. Possible carpet floral cleaner and moisture. The one person slept in a tent in the great backyard. We did a lot in Ohiopyle which is a 30 min drive. If you are opting for mostly Ohiopyle activity I suggest you stay closer to Ohiopyle. Overall good rating though!

This property is a great place to stay! The host was extremely accommodating and helpful. Just minutes from Seven Springs and can accommodate larger groups. We will definitely be back to stay.

This place is perfect to stay and enjoy your time with family. The kitchen is huge allowing multiple people to cook at one time. The pool table was great and the ring toss was a bonus!
The house was clean and well maintained. Hot tub was perfect for the cold nights, as was the fireplace.
Best of all there was plenty of room for all of the family to chill and catch up.
Would definitely stay again!!

My friends and I enjoyed a fall harvest retreat. The leaves were in full bloom. We enjoyed hiking in ohiopyle state park. We wanted to get together to preserve the harvest. We got apples from the local farm stand and lots of fresh local organic vegetables… the kitchen is well stocked for cooking. We also wanted to pamper ourselves with face masques.. the hot tub a is perfect way to wind down at the end of the day. The house is so spacious. There is plenty of space for anything you’d like to do. We will definitely return.

Great house . Third time staying there .

This home has many amenities. The location is wonderful for our group that enjoys solitude and a large property. We usually spend most of our time outdoors around a table, fire, eating and enjoying each others company. We are usually a group of 10-12 older adults. This year was a little cold to be outside a lot. So we stayed in played pool and watched sports. We found the couches to be extremely uncomfortable and sat on the kitchen chairs for most of the time. Upgrading the couches is highly suggested. Other than that. All else was wonderful. A nice rental in a great area. This is our second year at this location and will definitely consider it in the future. The host was very responsive. The house is a unique design and meet all out needs.

The good:
The location of the property is great, close to Laurel Highlands and Seven Springs. The house itself is very large, and has a good amount of outdoor gathering space.
The bad:
1. The host was not communicative. I had one question about the property, which was never answered. After multiple attempts to get in touch, I got an acknowledgement of my reservation, but nothing else. I was starting to get anxiety that I wouldn't even get the code to get into the house- that's how bad the communication was.
2. The description is inaccurate. There is one bedroom with a queen and twin bed. The other rooms have just one queen or one king.
3. You should be aware that you will need to bring your own firewood to use the firepit, and the pizza oven doesn't seem useable.
4. The tidy up/checkout process is lengthy and not described on the reservation page. If this were better described ahead of time I would be more understanding.
5. The beds are not great.
6. It just doesn't justify the price. The price is high for such low levels of service. Things like not having very many towels and no firewood, and no response from the owner made it feel like a 'bad deal'.
It's a great area but in the future I will be looking elsewhere.

The cleanliness of the house was impeccable. House keeping did a great job!
- The carpet was in need of replacement.
- The air conditioning was broken. Took two days to get something done that made it livable. The maintenance man worked into the night to troubleshoot and attempt to fix the problem. In the end it need a board that could not be acquired in short order. So the owner installed floor unites in the two bedrooms affected most.
- There was a damaged track light down stairs hanging by the electrical wire. The maintenance man that was there to look after the A/C took care of it immediately.
- The web site stated there were bunk beds but there were none. We were counting on them. Luckily we were prepared with air mattresses.
- Bees have taken up residence in the outside front wall stone work outside the "game" room. Didn't notice this until nearly the last day.
Fortunately the A/C troubles were taken care in a way that didn't totally ruin our stay before the rest of our family arrived and they did have a good time.
The hot tub was an unexpected treat. Enjoyed that experience after a day of hiking and waterfall sliding in the Ohiopyle state park.

The house was very large. Our big group had plenty of room to spread out. Everything we needed was there. We enjoyed the pool table and hot tub. Many activities were close by including Ohio Pyle State Park for rafting and hiking and Idlewild amusement park for the little ones.

We enjoyed our time at Highlands Haven. The pool table and hot tub were a hit; the kitchen was well equipped and the second dishwasher made cleanup easy. We spent a lot of time on the covered porch when we weren't exploring all the fabulous activities in the area. Ohiopyle and Laurel Hills state parks were within a half hour drive. Living Treasures animal park is amazing. Greendance winery is so much more than a winery; we loved it! The open floor plan is unique; however, the loft bedroom is not a quiet room; something to consider if the young ones' bedtime is before the rest of the guests. Plenty of bedrooms with comfortable beds and enough bathrooms that no one had to wait for an empty one. House was clean; needs a few updates but I would rent again.

Great house to have a family reunion. Only disappointing thing was that the lawn wasn't mowed. Wasn't able to use it for 2 days until it was mowed. The kitchen doesn't have any foil or plastic bags so you might want to bring your own

It was really difficult to find a house in the area for a reasonable price to accommodate 4 couples all requesting separate beds and baths! The house is very large and offers a lot of room that worked out well for our group. It is in need of some TLC and updating with worn furniture, carpet and general upkeep. The owner was very accommodating to our needs.

The house was awesome. Perfect set up and a great house for a short or long term stay. I don’t suggest using the house for a bridal party to get ready for my wedding like we did. Once the photographer and videographer came to the house, parking got to be a little much and the Nero HH of lady across the street knocked on the door with a bad attitude and said her boyfriend owns this property and she’s going to get him if cars don’t move off the street. That truly is my only compliant about the stay.

Staying at this property was the worst vacation experience I've ever had. Picture 12 people who just drove 6.5 hours to this property, sitting in the driveway calling the owner frantically, because he wouldn't give us the code to get in. I luckily found a property mgmt. company with one tiny property for rent and had to leave this property and book somewhere else. The property owner Greg did EVERYTHING he could to make my and my families vacation miserable. My 70 year old parents, my kids and nieces under age 10, 12 of us total who had to keep all our stuff in the car, go to Seven Springs resort, and just kill time for hours until we could find another property. TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
This home owner let us know we'd be given a code to get in the morning of our stay. I started emailing Greg through VRBO the morning of my stay asking for the pin code to get in. I called him, I text him, my wife called and text him, he never answered. Our check-in was at 3 and that is when we were all planning on being at the property. By 1pm, I was especially frantic so I started calling VRBO. They themselves started calling the property owner and he didn't respond to them either. We waited at the property in the cold driveway until 3:30, until finally VRBO told us to book another property. The only one available last min was a tiny 1200sf. It literally ruined our vacation. We booked Greg's big home 10 months in advance, and here I am at 4pm the day of my vacation looking for a last minute place to stay.
Finally this property owner text me the check-jn instructions at 8:45pm. I had already paid $1400 for a last minute tiny property. I was super upset, it was the worst way to start a vacation ever. Greg, felt bad and told me I could stay at his property and he would refund me. My family didn't want to have to move locations, but the last minute property we booked was so tiny, we were literally all sleeping on couches and on the floor. So we had to repack our stuff the second day, unpack the refrigerator, clean up the small property, etc to get to the property I originally booked ten months before. Greg refunded his portion of the $2100 I paid, but I lost the $400 tax and service fee that I paid. So even with the refund and headache, I actually lost $100 overall! Then hair was everywhere at Greg's property, bathrooms looked like a hair salon. Its far from Seven Springs too, and next to a trailer park. House was big, but everything was dated and dirty. Musty smell.

We had a wonderful time. BUT The carpet and furniture were filthy. Travelling with children, they need to update. Coaches had no support or were not clean in the main living area. Shower in master bedroom had black mold. Washer smelled terrible, didn't want to use. Food was in the fridge when we arrived. We had to clean before we could unpack. tried calling the local connection, left 2 messages no response.
Beautiful location. Had a wonderful time with family. Just very disappointed. I felt like I was actually in someone's house that left for the weekend.
10.0 / 10.0
Although it was just the two of us, we could see that this would be a nice space for a larger group. The kitchen was good enough for most cooking. (Pots/pans/lids and knives are never as good as home!). The outdoor spaces were very nice. The hot tub (currently not in the photos) is large, new, clean, reasonably private (it’ll be better when some of the shrubbery next to the deck grows a little) and on the covered patio for a nice view of sunset but still protected from rain/snow. We highly recommend the nearby Roaring Run Trail (small parking area within a quarter mile south on County Line Road) which can be anything from an easy mile or two out and back to a moderate eight mile loop depending on what you’re up for - all very oretty— see AllTrails). The house is well located for access within an hour of Frank Lloyd Wright house touring at Fallingwater, Kentucky Knob and Polymath Park (all recommended),
Ohiopyle State Park, the Flight 93 Memorial, and several local ski areas. Enjoy!

The location of this property was perfect for our family getaway. When we arrived early, Julie was cleaning the property and allowed us to drop off our luggage so we could comfortably explore the area. She gave us great suggestions of where to eat and local places to see and visit. She was awesome!! Our family stayed here 4 nights and all of us enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable with a few minor fixes needed which we passed on to the owner. We enjoyed the hot tub on the patio and the fall foilage in the area was stunning. We would definitely return to this lovely home and highly recommend it for friends and families.

Our group had a great stay. The house had everything we needed and we had a great time. We come every year for a charity event at 7 springs and this was our 1st year staying at this property. We really enjoyed ourselves and had everything we needed. Pictures were accurate and Greg was bery easy to work with. Great place for large groups! We will be back, thanks for everything.

We had a terrible experience. The septic system backed up in the middle of our stay, leaked into the bedroom and we had to leave the property. The owner said he would refund our money, but never did. We gave him a month to make good on his promises and he never followed through

Fun friend getaway!
Wow what a place! The pictures don’t do it justice! The house and very big and has all the accommodations that someone would need! We were a group of friends in our 30s just looking for a nice place to enjoy. We greatly enjoy sitting in the hot tub, sitting around the fire pit, and playing board games that the house offered! The house was also 30min fro ohiopyle where we swam and enjoyed some local shopping! The rooms were very comfortable and we had great communication with Greg and Julie!

Champion reunion
What a great place to have a family reunion! The yard is huge and flat to play any game you want. There were enough seats for everyone to sit between inside and outside tables. Had a great time. FYI, the one queen bedroom is tiny, just enough room for the bed, and the loft bedroom gets very warm

Perfect Midpoint Rental
This house was perfectly located for our multigenerational vacation. We had family from NY, NJ and IN. There was plenty to do in the area for all ages, 2-75. The house was maintained well and some basic needs items were also provided (toilet paper, dish washer tabs, garbage bags, and soaps). We greatly appreciate the quick replies to questions too. Highly recommend!
