About this cottage rental
Nestled in the quiet woods on Oak Island and within street view of the Intracoastal Waterway, Snapper Cottage offers a spacious layout to make your visit as easy, comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Relax on the platform deck under the Oak tree draped in Spanish Moss, or take an afternoon nap on the screened-in back porch. At night, when it's quiet on the island, you can hear the ocean waves in the distance and see millions of stars in the darkness.
The living room, dining area and kitchen have an open floor plan.
We have a large flat screen TV with a DVD player, along with extended television cable services. We also have with several family friendly movies in our DVD library. You can easily connect your laptop to the TV to stream your own programs on the big screen. If you need to work, there's also a small desk for your use.
The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare, cook and serve meals. Included in the kitchen: Refrigerator, glass top cooking stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, food processor, and blender. We have stainless steel pots and pans, pyrex baking and serving dishes, serving utensils, knives and cutting boards, a knife sharpener, whisks, spatulas, stirring spoons, spatulas, a colander, salad spinner, corkscrew and a bottle cap opener. There are plenty of plates, bowls, cups, glasses, wine glasses, and silverware.
There are two bedrooms, both with memory foam mattresses. We provide sheets, pillows, and quilts. The two beds in the bedrooms will be made up when you get here. Both bedrooms have king sized beds.
The sleeper sofa in the living room opens up to a queen size bed, and the cot is twin sized. Sheets, blankets and extra pillows for the sofa bed and twin cot are stored in the Captain's bedroom closet.
Both bathrooms are full baths, with a shower and a tub. There is a HE washing machine and dryer in the closet in the hallway. We also provide a set of bath towels and a beach towel for each guest. There are also extra towels in the hall closet for your dog.
Your dogs will love our fenced in backyard, and you'll love the ease of letting them out without having to go out with them. We ask that you to clean up your dog's solid waste, along with a $50 pet fee for each dog.
We strive to keep the cottage clean and fresh for everyone who visits-including for our guests without dogs.
We provide a small supply of paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, and laundry detergent for your stay. We also offer a high chair, booster seat, and step stool for the little ones, along with plenty of games and books.
We are located less than a quarter mile from the 14th St NE Veteran's Park on Yacht Drive, which is a great place to have a picnic or to go fishing. There is a small gazebo where you and several others can get out of the sun and relax on the benches. From spring to fall you'll love watching the ships, sailboats, and fishing boats go by. If you're lucky you might spot the occasional dolphin swimming, or possibly one of the smaller cruise ships.
Of course, there's the beach. It's a 0.9 mile walk through the nature trail to reach the closest beach access on foot, or a 1.4 mile drive to the closest beach access by car.
Don't overlook going through the nature trail over the marshes and Davis Canal. It may be your favorite walk ever! This area has one of the most scenic nature spots on the island, and you can only see it on foot or by small boat. Davis Canal is a fantastic place for watching sunrises and sunsets, along with spotting birds such as pelicans, hawks, cranes and great blue Herons. The water bridge trail cuts straight through and over the marshes of the brackish Davis Canal, between two rows of beach houses and ending at the 9th Place beach access.
Finally, our cottage is family owned and operated. We live in Southport and can be easily reached for assistance. We also recommend visiting our associated Facebook page to learn all about what our area offers and the things to do and see here. Nice location and convenient to explore the island. Easy checkin and responsive property owner.

We had a wonderful vacation and our 2 small dogs enjoyed it as well. Beautiful house. Owners were awesome to work with throughout whole stay! We will stay here again!

Biggest disappointment was the lack of walkable beach access, The listed 20 minute beach walk access was closed in April do to construction for the summer. We found out that a season beach pass parking pass for, $175.00, was available and would have been nice to be included in the rental cost for all guests to share.

Great trip, great place to stay. Excellent affordability! A bit of a small jaunt to the hub of restaurants and shops.

Comfortable beds, very few steps to navigate which is a plus in a beach house! Excellent array of books for our reading enjoyment. Owner easily accessible by email. Highly recommend!

The Snapper Cottage was the perfect home away from home for my group, consisting of mom, daughter and granddaughter. Everything had so much character, it showed how much thought went into the decor. The location was perfect for everywhere we wanted to visit. The small backyard was perfect for our furbabies quick bathroom breaks at night. Would definitely love to stay there again the next time we are fortunate enough to visit Oak Island.

The property was clean and well stocked. Beds were comfortable. Location was awesome. We lucked out in choosing this location for the first time. Nice biking, running, beach walking, pickleball, and even some relaxing. Kitchen was great to cook in but even greater restaurants nearby. Definitely going back!

House decor was beautiful and the home was clean to perfection. Everything that you would need is provided from the kitchen and activities. The owner was available for any questions and was a great host. This will always be our first choice when returning to Oak Island.

This house was perfect for our family's stay on Oak Island. It was super clean and stocked with everything we needed! Great backyard for our dog! Neighborhood was quiet and nice! Made the walk to the beach twice a day! The distance isn't too bad and the view along the way was beautiful! We were very sad to leave, but hope to visit again in the future!

We completely enjoyed our very first 2 week vacation at this adorable home. A huge plus was being able to bring our 2 pups with us. The home was well equipped and had everything we needed. We loved the screened porch! We brought a small TV/Roku stick with us and spent every evening hanging out. The fenced back yard, bicycles, comfortable beds, proximity to the beach/bridge/shopping, open floor plan, and washer/dryer we’re perfect. Plenty of towels, linens, extra blankets, games and beach chairs. Hosts were very responsive. Highly recommend!!

My husband and I, along with our dog Attie really enjoyed our stay here. Beach and inter coastal were very close, the house comfortable, safe, and clean. Only here for a few days, however we were able to get in nice walks on the beach, kayaking, enjoyed Kai Joes local rest., bike riding, and some sunset watching. The close proximity to the water and parks made it so much easier. We hope to come back before too long and would love to stay in the Snapper cottage again.

We stayed in Melonie's cottage for almost 2 weeks while our home was being renovated. We couldn't have been more pleased. The bedding was comfortable, the kitchen offered all the comforts of home, our dogs loved the fenced backyard and the street and location were peaceful and close to everything Oak Island offers. Believe the great reviews and stay here, You won't be disappointed!

This was our second time staying at Snapper Cottage. It's perfect for us. Comfortable beds and furniture, great kitchen, fenced in yard and close to the walking bridge and the beach. Sunsets are gorgeous. Our favorite quick restaurant, Kai Joe's, and the fishmonger, Haag and Sons, are a short drive. We love OKI in shoulder season!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week at this charming and sweet cottage. I can't think of anything I needed that wasn't provided - more than ample linens, great kitchen fit-out, and very comfortable beds. There are lovely embellishments throughout the cottage and the screened back porch was perfect for reading, listening to the birds and watching the squirrels chase each other across the fencetops. I would definitely return.

This property does not have all the conveniences but it is clean, the beds are good, and the kitchen is plenty serviceable. If you want to ride bikes, bring your own. The property has bikes but unless you can get air in the tires, they aren't much use. Air pumps provided were difficult at best. Overall, a very good value for the money!

Melonie was a fantastic host! She communicated with us before during and after our stay. The cottage was absolutely delightful! We had no issues and everything was well maintained. I love how thoughtful her touches in the cottage were from all of the extra pillows, dvds, books, bicycles, etc! We would highly recommend this rental!

We loved our stay at Snapper Cottage. It's rare to find a small cottage so coolly decorated and with top of the line furniture and beds. Most places have soft beds and sofas that hurt our backs. Not Melonie's place! She thinks of every detail. Even the bike tires are pumped up for a ride. Our pooch Charlie loved the backyard. The location is perfect for a walk along Yacht Road and the pedestrian bridge is only 15 minutes away. We will be booking Snapper Cottage again!

We loved this charming cabin! Having a fenced yard for our pets was wonderful. Great neighborhood for walking dogs, and ourselves. It is conveniently located to many places. Would definitely go back!

It was a home away from home for my sister and I, our 2 dogs, and our 93-yr-old mother. It had everything we needed, was quiet, comfortable, and nicely located just a few blocks walking distance from the salt marsh and beach. The intercoastal waterway was at the end of our street.

Family Beach Get-Away
Cozy, well-equipped, clean beach cottage - great location on a quiet street - short walk/bike-ride (bikes on premise)/drive to beach…3 blocks from Veterans Memorial Park and fishing dock on the Waterway at 15th Street. Our family loved staying at Snapper Cottage. We brought our 13 year old pup who gave the accommodations two paws way up.

Cozy, Comfortable, Clean, Easy Access and Use
We loved it here so much, we booked another 2 weeks in the future. Tree lined streets at the beach! Quiet, dog friendly neighborhood and community. The owners are really wonderful and made sure that we were completely comfortable during our stay. We love to cook and found everything we needed in the kitchen, and for my particular preferences, there was very convenient shopping nearby. Lots of beach/hobby reading, fiction, toys and games and two very comfortable recliners along with the couches. The beds are perfectly comfortable and the sheets and towels are soft and luxurious. Really uplifting and relaxing stay! Highly recommended! Thank you Melonie and Bernie for everything!
