About this cabin rental
The Trails Out Lodge is located in the heart of the alpine village at the base of the Glade Trail (hence the name). It was constructed in 1936 for the Fred Van Dyke family, one of the first operators of Timberline Lodge. The cabin features a knotty pine interior and a majestic stone fireplace reminiscent of the stonework at Timberline Lodge.
The main level contains the living room / dining area, kitchen, utility room, a bedroom, a half-bathroom, and the main entry foyer. The upstairs contains two more bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. Each upstairs bedroom has air-conditioning during the summer for better warm weather sleeping. There have been multiple improvements throughout the years to make the cabin more comfortable, convenient, and safe without sacrificing the work done by the skilled craftsman of the 1930's.
The roads to the cabin and parking at the cabin are plowed during winter. There is parking for three cars on site with nearby public parking available for additional vehicles.
The cabin has plenty of yard area for children to play and just up the road at the dead end is a great winter play area with a hill ideal for inner-tubing. Access to the trails along the north side of Government Camp are accessed through this area and lead to a large network of hiking/cross country skiing/snowshoeing trails. Trails to south side of the village can be access by walking over the Multorpor bridge. These trails give easy access all the way to Trillium Lake and beyond.
Village shops and restaurants are only a two-minute walk away, ideal for be able to leave the car at the cabin when doing culinary and retail exploring.
The cabin is stocked with board games and videos. The Govy General Store (200' away) rents DVD's and sells items to make your trip even more enjoyable.
While at the cabin don't forget to check out the Mt. Hood Museum and Cultural Center.
This cabin is vintage 1936 (Timberline Lodge era), this means it’s full of quirks and character and that’s why we adore it so much. If you are more comfortable in a sleek modern cabin, we gently suggest this cabin might not be the best fit for your getaway.
The stairs are steep, narrow, and partially open on one side. To prevent an accident young children need to be supervised by their parents when using the stairs.
IMPORTANT - Shortly after booking our cabin we will request payment for County Room Tax which VRBO is currently unable to capture at booking. These taxes are 6.85% of the amount you pay to VRBO. This situation is unwelcome for everyone, so we hope VRBO will update their software soon! All owners using VRBO for lodging on Mt. Hood are in the same situation. They used to collect this tax but tell us now their software is unable to do it. VRBO has told me they are working on a solution.

This cabin was everything we could have wanted. The owner, Blane, was amazing to work with. He was very responsive and proactive with our needs. A winter storm came during our stay which made things difficult to navigate. Blane was so helpful and made us very comfortable. The cabin is perfectly situated in Government Camp. Close to the store and Huckleberry Inn. The cabin is easy to get to and well plowed. We can't wait to stay here again.

We stayed here for a quick ski trip at Timberline, and we were pleasantly surprised by the house. The photos in the listing are great, but the house is even better in person. The beds are reasonably comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare east family meals. Importantly, the location in Government Camp is hard to beat—an easy walk to restaurants and the general store, as well as to trails (and a fun area to play in the snow). Also, the host is kind and easy to work with!

The house is small but comfortable. Lots of beds, but some are in weird little nooks. The location was perfect for a summer visit, we were able to park the car for 4 days and just walk everywhere.

I am not normally one for leaving reviews. But, this cabin was beyond perfect for my tiny family. It was clean, cozy, and comfortable. We felt right at home from the minute we walked in the door. And the location makes the cabin that much more wonderful. Our long weekend at Government Camp was nothing shy of perfect! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!

Fun weekend getaway!
This is a super cute cabin with well stocked kitchen and cozy wood burning stove. The location is unbeatable. Just a few mins to timberline. You can see the govy general store from the parking space- it’s that close. We also enjoyed the easy walk to get dinner in government camp.
The host was super easy to communicate with. Easy to get into the lockbox. We will definitely stay here for our next ski trip.

Perfect location for a Mt. Hood getaway
This is our second time renting this house from Julie and Blane and I think we will make it an annual event. The house is charming, built in 1932 but with up to date amenities. Close to Gov’t Camp but far from the bustling fray in winter. Very cozy with a great wood stove and 3 comfortable bedrooms. Blane is super responsive. Best of the several places we’ve stayed there. (Bring a little kindling and newspaper - wood is supplied).

Winter Wonderland
Spent our anniversary here with my wife on the first snow fall of the year. It so happened to be 15 inches of snow! This cabin was perfectly located within walking distance to stores and restaurants.
Wood was provided for the chimney, which we loved!
Definitely will rent here again in the future.

Our Escape into Nature
Our group of 3, felt so cozy in our little cabin! It was trying to snow and heavy fog upon our arrival. The lights left on made us feel like we just arrived at home. Loved the wood interior and coziness! Within walking distance of the cute little stores and hiking trails. We definitely come visit again!

Home base after skiing
This place was a great find! Extended family wanted to get together for a ski weekend, so I booked this house and it had everything we needed for a great time. The host was fantastic and the house was stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals, play games, and get some sleep in between our trips up to the mountain. The big table (with bench seating) allowed us to eat family dinners together which produced spontaneous story telling and laughter. The host, Blane, was a great communicator and easy to work with.

Perfect Government Camp Stay
The cabin has a GREAT location in Government Camp, just up the road from the general store and down the road from the trails. The cabin was clean and cozy. It has so much character, just what you would hope for in a mountain cabin! Communication with Blane was clear and helpful. We hope to return again soon.

Trails Out Cabin
This was a amazing cabin, very cute and clean! The owner, Blane has it set up very well, and has everything you would need. Approximity to downtown was just a few minutes walk!! We sledded, ski made snow men! Winter Wonderland in a cute snow globe is how I would sum it up! We would stay there again.

Awesome location & great hosts
We were very happy with our stay in Govy. The cabin's location is perfect and has everything that one might need for a short or a long stay - we were there close to 5 weeks and it felt like home.

Loved the cabin. Wonderful stay in snowy Government Camp@
Our cabin was cozy and clean, and had everything we needed for our birthday weekend. The cabin is located just steps from the restaurants and shops in Government Camp, but on a beautiful snowy road with picturesque little cabins on either side. One of the prettiest places I have ever visited. Our grandchildren were able to sled steps from the cabin. We also walked to the snow bowl for nighttime "Sonic Sledding." Our hosts were friendly and helpful and easily accessible for questions. Cozy fire, comfy beds--we will be back! P.S. for vacationers, we were able to take a bus to Government Camp instead of messing with snow chains. Great choice!

Beautiful cabin in a small cute town in the snowy mountains 😊
The cabin is beautiful, and the old wood gives it so much character! We were a block from cosmic tubing and 15 mins from Timberline lodge. Made getting to our weeding event super easy! We will definitely be back again!

Cozy cabin in Government Camp
The house is located one block from the main street in Government Camp yet is very quiet. It is very close to many hiking trails, and close to Hood River and the Columbia Gorge. The house is very comfortable and we'll kept.

cozy cabin in the snow
Stayed with our extended family and loved the atmosphere—cozy and rustic. It’s a perfect location on Blossom if you are skiing the Glade down from Timberline. Town is two blocks away. Will definitely be back.

The trails out lodge was as described - happy
Listing and pictures were accurate. Cabin was clean/maintained and the kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the living room/dinning/wood stove space was nice for family gathering. Right in the heart of Gov Camp with food and stores. Short walk to snow shoeing or Ski Bowl East. Nice view of Mt Hood outside the cabin and nice view out the dining window of lighted night skiing slopes.
