About this house rental
The perfect Dupe. Less crowded, a little unexpected, and truly delightful. The vibe here is RETO and CHILL, so let the good times roll. Message us for details as we do not use the VRBO calendar.
Perfect for 2, 3, or 4 guests. Walk out the gate directly onto Makaha Surfing Beach. Our Oceanside Bungalow is 700 square feet with 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. Boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, and umbrellas, are all available in the cabana next to the bungalow. Go snorkeling with the sea turtles right off the beach. Do a little Whale Watching from the front yard….migrating season is late December through March, or just enjoy a good book while swinging in the hammock. Sunsets you ask.....absolutely!
Makaha Beach is truly the hidden jewel of Oahu. You are only 35 miles northwest of Honolulu airport away from all of the crowds. Makaha Beach is famous for surfing dating back to the '50s but there is also great snorkeling and just plain lying on the beach in the sun.
If you are looking for a great location with a beautiful secluded beach this place is for you. Our Oceanside Bungalow shares the front yard, (which overlooks the ocean) along with the beach equipment found in the cabana with our Mountainside Bungalow. If you like to play golf, Makaha Valley Resort has 1 golf course with spectacular views. The South Course is scheduled to be redesigned by PGA legend Tiger Woods. Rumored to become a distinct and memorial golf course. We are very excited.
Barbecue on the front lawn and eat under the 100+-year-old Hau tree, the perfect place to enjoy those beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. There is a grill outside your bungalow and you will find charcoal and lighter fluid in the cabana.
This is really "local" Hawaii. The Makaha Country Club for golf and they now have the restaurant open. Great deep-sea fishing out of the Waianae Harbor and the freshest Ahi Tuna on the island can be found at our local grocery store. Lots of farming nearby which means lots of fresh vegetables and fruits. The farmers market is open on Saturday mornings. There are no bars or restaurants in our immediate neighborhood which makes this the perfect spot for a zero-proof vacation. There are restaurants within 3 miles, Coquitos Latin Cuisine and Kahumana Organic Farm and Cafe. The Beach House by 406 is a nice restaurant and has a nice bar. In Ko'Olina, (20 minutes) Roys, Monkey Pod, Island Vintage Coffee, and more. In Kapolei, (30 minutes) Outback, Chilis, and many more restaurants.
You will have a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time here at The Bungalows. We have two bungalows on our property, we trust that you will respect your fellow guests. The entire property is for everyone to enjoy.
We do not use the VRBO calendar. So please reach out to us to see if your dates are available. Sorry, no weddings or large parties are permitted.

Great vacation rental. The communication with the owner was super easy and very fast response.
The property has direct access to the beach with great outdoor patio and BBQ. We snorkeled, swam and walked every day directly from the property. The Makaha beach is quiet with nice sand and fish.
The beach bungalow was clean. The kitchen was well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. The air conditionning was great at night in the bedrooms. The fans worked well for the kitchen and living room during the day. The bathroom towels were plush. Washer and dryer worked well.
They provided beach towels for the entire family. Beach chairs, umbrella, fins, mask and tuba, etc were all easily accessible and provided by the owner.
Great beach stay to enjoy the ocean and reading.

The photos of the bungalows are a great representation of what you are getting with this VRBO, and staying there is even BETTER! Lisa & Ken were welcoming (loved the welcome basket) and responsive with any questions we had during our stay. The quick access to the beach was our FAVORITE part of this stay! We swam with sea turtles everyday! We were so thankful of the beach supplies that Lisa & Ken provided; we used the chairs, umbrellas, snorkels, fins, and masks regularly. We were so thankful for the beach towels too! We'd give this place 10 stars if we could! THANK YOU Lisa & Ken!

Wonderful stay combining our 25th anniversary and a vacation with the teenage kids. Thoughtful bungalows with easy and quick access to an extraordinary beach, waves, snorkeling and sunsets. Our family was very happy with our experience. Mahalo!

This bungalow is stationed right at the edge of a gorgeous beach. The owners have put a lot of work into making this rental as comfortable as possible for anyone whether they're planning to get away from it all and stay on the property or just as a home base to rest at the end of each day. With plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sunset, this location is perfect for any romantic or cinematic experience of Oahu.

We loved our stay at The Bungalows. To be able to walk out the back gate of the property each morning and be right on the beach was magical. Morning coffee was enjoyed by the spectacular Hau tree. We didn't need to worry about all the toys we'd need to enjoy time on the beach or in the water either, Lisa and Ken had it all covered. It was fun to watch the surfers each day and the school outrigger canoe teams practice! And sunsets were of course — spectacular. Next time we'll be sure to book both bungalows and bring more family to enjoy this special slice of paradise.

Nice place to stay and play on the beach.

There 2 window AC units in the house, both are in the bedroom. No unit in the living room or kitchen and it’s can get hot during the day. Once we left and run around the AC was turned off and once we arrived back at the house it was extremely hot. The ac should not be turned off.

What a great 10 days! The bungalow was perfect! The location was great in respect to being on the beach. Most restaurants closed at 7pm, but great choices within 30 mins. We didn’t mind driving for dinner felt we got to see more areas on the island. Lisa had great tips for places to go to dinner and tips for getting tickets to the Arizona! The sitting area under the tree was my favorite spot each morning and evening. My hubby and 2 grown boys loved the hammock for naps and reading! The fresh avocado that Lisa gave us was amazing as well as the coconuts! The beach accessories we on point everything you will need is provided including water shoes, lanterns and great beach chairs that have coolers on them. Great for a day at the beach! The ocean was magnificent there was a few days that afforded us impressive waves with most days allowing up to swim right by the house! Shower and ac worked great. The outdoor washer and dryer were great came home with no laundry to do. The outdoor games were great as well as the grills. Communication was great with our host answered us very quickly. Only thing I would recommend is a little more seating in the living room. Futon was comfortable to sleep on. Perhaps an addition couch or recliner! Thank you Lisa and Ken for facilitating a trip of a lifetime!

A 20 night stay at the bungalows and was made to feel at home from day one! Lisa and Ken couldn't do enough to help us. Tips on where to go shopping, farmers markets, fresh coconuts, mangos and avocado's from the gardens for us to eat was a real treat! Everything you see in the photos for the beach and more are in the cabana inc coals for the BBQ! The hair dryer shown is what is there and my wife was more than happy with it! Saw Turtles in the sea out the back of the garden. Great hosts and great accommadation helped make a great holiday!

Beach vacation
The cottage is a few steps away from a gorgeous beach. I saw sea turtles most days during my walks on the beach which was amazing. The cottage had everything we needed to include a washer and dryer which was great to use before we left. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to prepare meals. The grocery store was very close to the cottage. LIsa and Ken's directions and advice to stop on the way to the cottage was very helpful. Lisa gave us fresh mangos which tasted amazing! There were beach chairs and umbrellas in the shed that we could use as well as beach towels at the cottage. The beach didn't have that many people, so it never felt crowded. Additionally, there was a life guard at the beach. Everyone was friendly and I would stay here again.

Fabulous on the Beach Location
My family and I (with two young adult children) had the perfect, restful vacation staying at this Bungalow on the beach. On days we didn’t feel like doing much, we grabbed beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkelling gear and beach towels (all provided) to head to the beach right behind the property. The beach was beautiful! It could not have been easier to relax. The bungalow was very comfortable, all necessities were provided. We were very pleased with our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Lisa and Ken are the best! Beautiful access to beach
We had a lovely experience with Lisa and Ken and recommend their bungalow to anyone looking to get away and have amazing access to the beach (and glorious views of the night sky)-Additionally we had to make adjustments because of my husband's work and a recent surgery and Lisa and Ken were very kind and understanding.

Paradise Found
The property was exactly as described and pictured in the listing. The hosts had great communication and were super easy to work with. The bungalow was very well equipped, everything we needed from the kitchen to the beach was there. The outdoor spaces and amenities were especially nice. If you are looking to do something different and experience the uncrowded, less commercial O’ahu, this is your place! Beautiful mountains, hikes, beaches, and snorkeling right in your backyard.

Beautifully converted Yurt
The place was EXCEPTIONALLY stocked well with everything needed for your stay. The bungalow was surprisingly spaced well. I would only mention NOT hanging clothes on the line to dry, we did not realize there were automated watering. During OUR stay, the beach access was very rocky and not what we old folk were expecting. You do have beach access but not right out front. Very beautiful but we were not able to lay on the beach in front of OUR place we had to walk over the rocks. If not for this aspect. We have NOTHING bad to say as I stated earlier.

Great place away from the city
My wife, 5-year-old son, and I loved the bungalow. The beach is only a few steps away, and there are other beaches all around--if you are looking for calmer (or rougher) water. We picked this location because it was away from the city. We like to eat like a local and really experience the aloha culture.

Perfect summer family retreat!
We wanted a quiet, beautiful, beachfront, away-from-the-crowds location for our first family trip after shelter-in-place, and the Bungalows Hawaii is a picture-perfect spot for what we were looking for. The bungalows are interestingly unique, clean, and spacious for a family of 4, even with teenagers. We loved having the beach right THERE and almost always to ourselves. My husband and I often enjoyed our morning coffee sitting under the Hau Tree, taking in the peaceful view of the ocean. My favorite spot (and that of my eldest) in the afternoon was in the hammock, enjoying the ocean breeze and the sound of the surf.
Lisa and Ken are very welcoming and let us enjoy the all the wonderful aspects of the property. They make everything easy, from booking the reservation to check-out. Mahalo for sharing your very special and amazing spot in paradise with those of us lucky enough to stay! We can't wait to come back!!!

Incredible location
This property is everything as advertised on VRBO. The hosts, Ken and Lisa are great. Lisa has all of the tips you need about the surrounding area and this stretch of beach and ocean so you don't have to waste time figuring out where to find the turtles or reefs. The beach can't be described in words. We felt like we had our own private beach the entire time. Even on weekends. The bungalow was comfortable and the location can't be beat if you want to get away from the thundering herd of tourists. Our future trips to Oahu will be based on the availability of this property. If you are into DIY sushi, don't miss Tamura's Super Market. They get the catch of the day from the fisherman coming into the marina. We definitely got our fill of Ahi, and the pressure cooker in the bungalow has a setting for sushi rice. Just look up a recipe, cook the rice, grab some fresh Ahi and you are set. I highly recommend booking this property if you are looking to unwind and just plain relax with no worries whatsoever.

5 Star Stay
Absolutely Mind blowing experience here at the Bungalows. LOCATION!!! Beach Access!!!! Welcome Basket!!! The tips we received from the welcome book were awesome. The owners are a dream, looking forward to many more stays here in West Oahu. It’s really a hidden gem. 7 days we were able to explore the entire island and return to the bungalows with as much enjoyment as our excursions, even took a couple days to enjoy staying in. We saw dolphins, whales, Morgan swam with a sea turtle. We had beachfront breakfast every morning and enjoyed breathtaking sunsets. There was another family staying in the other bungalow. The property is so roomy & spacious everyone had privacy. Highly recommend napping in the hammock. We will be. back

This is our 3rd visit to The Leeward side of Oahu and the Bungalow was by far our best experience
Check-in was a breeze, and the location is amazing. We went snorkeling with the sea turtles at Makaha Beach. Everything was clean and Lisa has everything in the bungalow that you could ever need. We had a washer and dryer and did our laundry. We’ve already booked for next year!!

Loved it. Would stay here again
This place is great, so peaceful and beautiful. So nice to get away from the tourist mayhem in Waikiki. It’s a long drive from other places on the island including north shore, but if you’re looking for quiet beach time with amazing scenery in a local town, this place is perfect! Did a lot of snorkeling, went on hikes nearby, and saw lots of animals, including seals and sea turtles! Beach is beautiful and peaceful, not a lot of people like other beaches on the island. We watched the sunset every evening over the ocean. The bungalow was the perfect size for two people or a small family. The hosts are great. They had beach gear and lots of information on what to do in the area. They gave us some fruit that grow right off the trees on their property, including mangoes lemons and avocados! Very nice to talk with. Just very friendly and down to earth people. Overall the trip was amazing, if you’re looking for some quiet time to unplug and think about life, this is the place to do it.

Yes!
Loved this place! So close to the beach! Spent lots of beach time. Great yard. Great house. Great community (eat at the 604 beach house and staxx. The locals at staxx were great!). Great hosts. Out of the "tourist" part of the island, but as it is a smaller island, drivable to any of the activities (PCC, pearl harbor, Manoa falls, Dole, etc). If there were a 4.5, I would have done that. The only reason for that instead of 5 is the location of the home we stayed at (there are two!) being so close to the road and the loud music and traffic in to the night. That being said, we turned on the cooler in the room during the night and that helped the noise level. The only other thing that would bring it to a 4.5 is the shower space and curtain, not the best, but not a deal breaker. It is a great place and we would do it again! Thanks Lisa and Ken!

Gorgeous sunsets!
Lovely spot, gorgeous sunsets! Loved sitting under the Hau tree to watch the waves, whales and surfers!
Would have given 5 stars but a little noisier than expected but then again if that's the worst thing it's not so bad.

Hawaii Vacation
Property was in great shape with the exception of the access to the beach, which was restricted due to safety hazards and the stairs were in need of repair.
THe accomodations were excellent and Ken and Lisa treated us well

Great Getaway Spot On Historic Surfing Beach
Located in one of the lesser developed parts of Oahu, for me this was the perfect counterpoint to Honolulu. I enjoyed 5 laid-back nights, with my wife and daughter, barbecuing amazingly fresh, locally caught Ahi and Marlin, purchased at the local market. Lisa and Ken are the best, making things very easy and comfortable for us.

Comfortable Bungalow, Nice Property.
We enjoyed out stay at the Bungalows, and found much to enjoy-our place was well equipped, clean and comfortable. Ken and Lisa were very friendly and work hard to maintain this very nice property.
However the Mauka Bungalow has no view of the ocean and is right next to the highway, so there is almost constant road noise, including ambulances, blaring radios and booming engines. Although both bungalows are identical in layout, there is a huge difference in location and ambience. If you book here, make sure you get the bungalow with the ocean view.

a little bit of paradise
The bungalow was lovely, roomy and fun. And the beach was wonderful, snorkeling was good and privacy was amazing. No tourist crowds and no fancy restaurants, the real Hawaii. We loved it
