About this cabin rental
Just a note about Hurricane Helene: while the damage in Asheville, about 1.5 hours away, was devastating, Cashiers is largely ok…businesses and restaurants are open. The Hobbit House had no damage, and our water, internet and power are good to go and we’re fully prepared to offer you a wonderful getaway.
Life is all around us. We need to celebrate it, every day. Hikes are free, so are the views from mountain tops and of waterfalls. Long walks, riding a bike, no crowds. Carryout as well as eat in are available at excellent nearby restaurants, or cook the latest NY Times recipe that caught your eye together in the petite but we’ll stocked kitchen of the Hobbit House. Then eat by the fireplace, at table, or on the front porch listening to the wind whisper through the trees. Enjoy some quality time watching a movie or sit by the fire (we supply the firewood) laughing and making s'mores. Get a great night's sleep on a super comfy mattress (seriously, SO many guests want to buy one I should get a commission) in the fresh mountain air.
Second, I had a recent guest who was arriving that day ask, "Do you have strict cleaning procedures at the house? No offense intended!". To which I replied, "None taken” We want future guests to know we have reviewed and instituted even more strict cleaning procedure with our excellent housekeeping staff, both for their protection and for yours.
So, with all that said, welcome to the Hobbit House in the breathtaking mountains of western North Carolina. A small space, yes...but such a sanctuary. And don’t we need that these days? The perfect hideout for a week or a long weekend. Just a two minute drive (if that), or a 10 minute walk to the Cashiers crossroads, the Hobbit House is nestled within an acre of mountain laurel, holly and tall pines....an airy, sophisticated Cashiers cabin with in-town seclusion.
The Hobbit House was completely redone with stainless kitchen appliances and new bathroom (note: the bathroom is downstairs from the loft bedroom) and redecorated into a luxurious, warm and peaceful getaway for two - or three, if you have a dog ($100 dog fee). Relax in the woods - yet have all the luxuries of home: HD Roku streaming of TV cable channels with all the possible sports channels plus Netflix, Amazon, Sling etc...(Not major networks just yet) washer and dryer, landline phone and solid Wi-Fi. A new, petite but modern kitchen and flagstone floored bath with a modern subway-tiled walk-in shower...both on the first floor.. are just off the open living area with a wood burning, stone fireplace.
On cooler days, there is warm air flowing at the flick of a switch plus the fireplace, and an upstairs super efficient standing floor air conditioning unit that keeps the cottage cool on the rare, warmer than normal day. Usually the stainless steel ceiling fans do the trick!
Follow the mountain laurel railing upstairs to the light filled loft bedroom (bathroom downstairs), where a wonderful night's sleep awaits under the rafters. The gel-topped, memory foam, king size bed will soothe you to sleep in the cool mountain air after a day of hiking, waterfalls or shopping.
The Hobbit House is a cabin with a difference. Everything in The Hobbit House has been chosen specifically for this cottage. While poplar bark siding protects the exterior, inside you’ll find a light, modern, designer-mountain feel with a whitewashed shiplap interior, artisan details, the latest energy-efficient appliances and cool art. For your skin, there are also top quality sheets and fluffy towels...you won't find another place like it. except our big sister house. You'll find a link below to the Mountain House if you're looking for something larger (6B-4-1/2B) but with the same easy style.
In the morning, have your coffee on the Sunday porch swing next to the mountain laurel rails that line the deck. Listen to the silence of the rain forest, broken only by the Carolina birds singing their tunes. Promise yourself that today, you WILL make time for reading. Ok, and maybe a nap on that same plush swing-bed. Later, enjoy a glass of wine in the same spot or take it with you walking the secluded roads and trails just outside your door. Then, if you wish, cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen or grill outside on the gas grill. Even better, slip away to one of Cashier's many wonderful restaurants that are just minutes away. Welcome to a slice of heaven!
Please be mindful of the septic system and do not flush anything down the toilets or drains other than toilet paper. This includes any and all personal hygiene products, baby wipes, bleaches and strong chemical cleaners.

Definitely a fantastic escape! The location was very convenient to anywhere we wanted to go yet it felt like it we were a world away once we settled in. The home was well furnished and had all we needed plus some! Definitely want to go back!

The Hobbit house was everything as advertised!! Perfect for me and my husband. Location was perfect! We had lovely dinners in Cashiers, shopping and lunch in Highlands. Explored Lake Glenville and a beautiful hike. Looking forward to future visits.

The property has an ideal location to downtown Cashiers, however, still has the seclusion of a mountain cabin. Host was very attentive and checked with us to see if everything was to our liking. Would always recommend staying at the Hobbit House.

We had a wonderful time. The cabin was a perfect getaway for the two of us (and our small pup). Despite rainy weather, we hiked, enjoyed the local restaurants, and lingered over coffee on the front porch.
Everything was just as advertised and couldn’t have been better!

We enjoyed this spot as a home base for a wedding weekend. It was perfect for the two of us, and we even skipped one of the wedding evenings to grill a dinner and enjoy the fireplace! we would definitely return.

This is our third stay at Hobbit House. You just can’t beat the location. It’s beginning to feel like our summer home.

Everything was just as advertised. It was a wonderful cozy cottage that was centrally located to everything you may want to do in the Cashiers/Highlands and Sapphire area. The fireplace was the way to end each day, with a warm fire and comfy sofa! The Paulson's made everything easy with great info and suggestions! This is a gem.

Another fantastic stay
This is such a comfy and amazingly cute property. This was our second visit. It feels like home the minute you arrive. Very secluded, yet the town is in walking distance. And so many businesses to visit, especially restaurants. We can't wait to go back. Oh, and the dog loves it, too. A nice big porch to hang out on.

The perfect getaway!
I couldn't imagine a more perfect stay at any property than staying here! This modern, yet rustic, cabin in the woods was absolutely fantastic. It had everything we needed, even some things that we didn't realize that we wanted. Donna is an exceptional host with great communication and she thought of everything. We even followed her restaurant recommendations to the T and all were perfect, too. The location of this rental was also perfect, close to some great restaurants and a large grocery store, yet, with a two minute drive, you felt you were secluded. We can't wait to book another stay!
We (me, spouse and dog,) highly recommend!!

Hobbit House
Hobbit House is a beautiful little cabin in the woods. We had a minor problem with the water supply, but the owner had it fixed quickly. We loved our stay in Cashiers and highly recommend this property!

everything was grand except towela were damp, not fully dried from previous tenants. Also, lavatory in bath was hard to use as faucet was wrongly installed in relations to sink.

Anniversary Getaway
We’d been on many adventures during our two decades of marriage but never this part of the North Carolina mountains. We fortunately stumbled across The Hobbit House listing as we prepared to celebrate our 20 year anniversary and booked it after reading so many good reviews.
Donna was easy to work with throughout the process. We feel the home was even cuter in-person than shown in the pictures. The location made a great home-base as we ventured out on hikes and entertainment in the surrounding areas.
It was a perfect place to stay, and had everything we needed. We hope to return soon!

Escaping the heat of the bayou!
Beautiful mountain escape that is in a truly natural setting away from the hustle and bustle of the Cashiers crossroads and yet a short car ride back to town for shopping and restaurants.

Perfect romantic weekend getaway for 2
We spent a long weekend at the cottage for our wedding anniversary, along with our pooch. Its is exactly as described...charming and romantic and ideally situated for touring the highlands. As promised, the bed was extremely comfortable. We had forgotten our "doggy linens":, but Donna had thoughtfully provided special dog linens for the bed and covering the sofa. Not sure who enjoyed the very comfortable sofa in front of the fire more, my husband or the dog. I loved the large covered porch swing, piled high with pillows and a throw. The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we needed. Highly recommend The Library in Sapphire for dinner, the Highlands Smokehouse for lunch, and don't miss White Water Falls in the Gorges State Park. We would definitely would go back.

Perfect Getaway for Two
My husband and I visit the “Hobbit House” each year, and it is a gift. The house is beautifully decorated, so comfortable, and has every amenity you would need. Whether you venture out to all that the Cashiers/Highlands area has to offer or just cozy up and relax indoors, this is the place for you.

We loved the Hobbit House in Cashiers, NC. The cabin was wonderful and was very unique in design and furnishings. We loved everything about it and want to come again in the future!

My wife and I and our 11 year old lab spent ten days at this wonderful cottage completely surrounded by laurel and forest. Leaves where changing color while we were there and resulted in a spectacular view from a very roomy porch. There was a very comfortable swing sofa on the porch and I can vouch for the fact that it is conducive to napping. You are secluded in a forest yet only 0.8 miles from the center of Cashiers. If you are desiring quiet this is the place. The cottage was very comfortable and cozy. It was well equipped and the owner Donna has used her talents to decorate it very tastefully with some fun items. The bed was very comfortable as was the large couch facing the fireplace. We had a fire going in the fireplace pretty much the whole time we were there. The wood burning fireplace drew quite well and there was an enormous pile of wood for our use. To sum up---we loved the place! If you cannot relax at this cottage you have a serious problem. The cottage is within a short driving distance of innumerable hikes. On most of the hikes you will see beautiful waterfalls. Our lab loved all the hikes and walks. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from. You can get a good cappuccino at Buck's. You can rent a boat at Lake Glenville. We have rented a lot of properties over the years but Donna is unmatched in her attention to detail. The information we received prior to arriving was the most complete we have ever seen. She communicated with us to insure we were not in need of anything. She sent us up-to-date information about events in the area. When we left I had a senior moment and left something of value to me. She very graciously and rapidly arranged for it to be delivered to me. She was fantastic. She is the kind of person you want to rent from.

Perfect Cabin In The Woods
We really enjoyed our 2 weeks at Hobbit House. All the outdoor activities we like to do were easily accessible (hiking, paddle boarding on Lake Glenville, golf, etc..) Many good restaurants nearby. The cabin was perfect for our needs.
Donna was always available when we needed to communicate with her. If we travel to Cashiers again we would definitely book Hobbit House again.

Great Stay at the Hobbit House amid COVID 19
We spent 4 nights in the Hobbit House amid the COVID-19 crisis. It was a perfect place to get away, enjoy fresh air, and relax. The house is the perfect size for 2 people and the décor is adorable. The Hobbit House is stocked with everything you would need (including flash lights, backpack, tote bag, leashes, maps, umbrellas ... anything you need for short hike, picnic & outdoors.) We were able to buy food at the local grocery stores (since restaurants were closed) and grill out and/or cook every night. All the restaurants and businesses offered great takeaway too but we choose to stay in this awesome cabin. The house has a private porch with a comfortable bed swing. The house has great WiFi and Roku if you need it, and a wood burning fireplace with plenty of fire wood. The cabin is in walking distance to Cashiers and is about a 15-20 minute drive to the Highlands. We were able to drive quickly to many of the suggested hiking trailheads. The Owner has provided a lot of information regarding local restaurants, hikes, grocery stores, etc. in the cabin and in the literature that she sends when you are checking in. We would highly recommend the Hobbit House and hope to return ourselves someday! It is a perfect mountain get way!
Donna is great too. She communicated to us thru the visit and offered lots of great suggestions and really took care of us!!!
Definitely suggesting this to others and plan to return soon.

Romantic, Quiet Getaway
This house is not only cozy but full of details that so many rentals lack. I truly felt like I was at home when so many other places made me feel like I was just there. I loved the front porch. All it was missing was so nearby bird feeders so I could watch birds while drinking my coffee. I love that the property felt secluded yet it was 2 minutes from downtown. My husband and I will have to come back when the coronavirus is over as most of the stores and restaurants were understandablely closed.

Hobbit House Heaven
A great spot for whatever you want it to be. Restful and relaxing if you need some down time. Walking distance to great restaurants and natural natural wonders to explore. House has everything you need for a great stay. We have been enjoying VRBO for several years, but Donna was by far the best host. She responded quickly to questions and texted us with updates prior to our arrival. We would most definitely recommend this spot when planning your next trip to the area.
