About this house rental
After being off the VRBO rental market for two years we are back! Newly painted inside and out, new lighting inside and out and new sofas with a new covered porch. new washer /dryer, new hot water heater. The log cabin is a building that is about 100 years old and partially survived Katrina (we lost the living room which is now the covered porch.) If you would like a brand new place to stay, there are many available. If you would like a place with a long history, beautiful grounds, fenced yard and a view to the water, that is dog friendly, this is your place.
This property is the only remaining part of the estate of Governor Parker who, in 1915, hosted a visit here by Teddy Roosevelt. The log cabin lies in its own garden. We recently built a new house toward the front of the property designed by Frank Gehry and Robert Tannen. This cabin was one of the very few structures to survive Katrina, though it was halved in size by the storm. With the beach at its feet, it is also only a short distance further to the picturesque port and to the center of Pass Christian, which is being rebuilt.
Our cabin has been on tour with the Pass Christian Historical society, come stay in a historic site.
We just finished painting inside and out and adding a roof to the porch with a new sofa, lamps and rug. There are just 2 rooms, as well as the bathroom, the bedroom with king sized bed, and 42” television, with cable and wireless Internet. We only have one TV; there is no TV in the living room, kitchen area. If you would like a second TV bring your own. The main room, which serves as sitting room, dining room and kitchen, has a dining table seating 6 and a queen size sofa bed. Both rooms open onto a large screen porch (the former great room) ideal for enjoying relaxing drinks, and on cooler nights sitting in front of the wood-burning fireplace or generally sitting and admiring the garden, under the ceiling fans with a view to the gulf through ancient oak trees. There are lights on the two north corners of the house that illuminate when their motion detector is activated so you have light when you arrive and leave.
There is a fenced pool in the garden, a short walk from the cabin. The property is fenced. During the summer, if there has been a lot of rain the grass can be long. Due to the expense of mowing we only mow every other week. If this may be a problem for you please contact Rebecca O’Dwyer, our manager and ask when the grass will be mowed to make sure it doesn’t disturb you. All other times of the year this is not a problem.
This property has been in my family for over 120 years. It is a place of tranquility, serenity and beauty. I am delighted to share it with those that would like to experience its beauty. The log house was built in the 1920’s by my grandfather. If you want new construction, this is also not the place. It is a place for writers, artists and those of us that want to unplug from everyday life to come and be renewed. If you are looking for TV in every room, perfectly manicured lawns where your dog is not welcome this is not the place for you.
An excerpt from A Book-Lover’s Holidays in the Open. 1916. By Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919).
“ON June 7, 1915, I was the guest of my friend John M. Parker, of New Orleans, at his house at Pass Christian, Mississippi. For many miles west, and especially east, of Pass Christian, there are small towns where the low, comfortable, singularly picturesque and attractive houses are owned, some by Mississippi planters, some by city folk who come hither from the great Southern cities, and more and more in winter-time from the great Northern cities also, to pass a few months. The houses, those that are isolated and those in the little towns, stand in what is really one long row; a row broken by vacant reaches, but as a whole stretching for sixty miles, with the bright waters of the Gulf lapping the beach in front of them, and behind them leagues of pine forest. Between the Gulf and the waters lies a low ridge or beach of white sand. It is hard to make anything grow in this sand; but the owners of the houses have succeeded, using dead leaves and what manure is available; and in this leaf-mould the trees and grasses and flowers grow in profusion. Long, flimsy wooden docks stretch out into the waters of the Gulf; there is not much bad weather, as a rule, but every few years there comes a terrible storm which wrecks buildings and bridges, destroys human lives by the thousand, washes the small Gulf sailing craft ashore, and sweeps away all the docks.”
Why do I say that the property has been in my family for over 120 years? And Roosevelt visited in 1915. My grandparents owned the property next to Gov. Parker. In 1969 my mother bought the Governor’s house and incorporated it into our lot.

We enjoyed the cabin feel of the property. We really enjoyed being able to cool off in the pool. We had a good stay. With a fenced yard it was great for our dog to run and play.
We only had two negatives: only two rolls of toilet paper and no extra trash bags.

After a whirlwind of law school and bar exam prep, our family definitely needed a vacation. Pass Christian is a quiet beach town and provided a great respite from the city for a week. The property had quick access to the beach, the onsite pool provided another good option for the kids to beat the heat, and the cabin provided everything we needed. Would definitely love to return, but probably not in August next time :D.

My blue bathing suit was turned white, my wife’s maroon was turned dull brown. They must have chlorine shocked the pool just before we swam in it.

Such a lovely and comfortable oasis! The yard and screened in porch were relaxing with an enjoyable ocean view and an easy walk to the beach. Even though there were other homes in the area, it felt like we were all alone in the woods. A dip in the pool was a perfect way to end the day before heading out to enjoy the yummy seafood in the area. So good we didn’t want to review it high because we want to come back and would hate to see it all booked up! BTW - we brought our dogs and it they gave it two tails up!

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary during our stay in Pass Christian. The Teddy Roosevelt house was the perfect place for us. We walked to the beach from the large shaded yard. Enjoyed soaking in the pool in the afternoon. We truly enjoyed being close to the many great restaurants in Tge Pass. The house was comfortable and quiet. Very clean and enjoyable place. We will be back!

Pros: location to the beach was great; adequately stocked with necessities; super charming space that's pet friendly; comfortable furnishings
Cons: the driveway gate was a nightmare to close; key for the pool was absolutely no where to be found so we couldn't access it; we understood that the grass might be high, but it was up to my kids' waist/past my knees so our legs would get covered in itchy grass coming back from the beach; there's no convenient way to rinse off coming after the beach, the hose is in the garden behind a large plant; the part of the porch where the hose reaches is also occupied by a gigantic hornets nest; the lock on the double doors in the living room is backwards so they either had to be wide open or locked, & you had to walk through the bedroom to get from the kitchen to the porch; locking the main door to leave was frustrating because you couldn't just turn the key, it had to be *just* right; the landscaping is overgrown so combined with the tall grass, there were so many bugs at all hours of the day that we couldn't be outside...my dog would have dozens of mosquitoes at one time on her while using the bathroom with gnats swarming my face; the large oak tree needs pruning so limbs scraped the metal roof & you'd constantly hear a nails on a chalkboard sound; none of the windows had curtains, so you had to close the storm doors for privacy; the shower had mildew & the $1500 damage deposit is ridiculous

We had a good and relaxing stay at the log cabin. The pool was very enjoyable and the screened in patio/entertainment area were highlights for us. The fenced yard was most enjoyed by our dog. We rested knowing she could be outside and safe. We had everything we needed!

We love staying at this perfect getaway! Close to home and just what we need! Quiet and relaxing! Being across from the beach is convenient but having a pool is what sells this property for us! Not our first visit and won’t be our last!

The place was a wonderful place for fur babies, for it is all fully fenced it

This cabin was the perfect place for me and my wife. It was clean and perfect location to the beach, restaurants and shopping venues. Neighborhood was clean and felt very safe in the area. Neighbors were very friendly.

My wife and I just spent a week in Pass Christian at this fantastic residence set back behind the main house on about 5 acres. This was fenced. The entire 5 acres. Inside this is the residence we stayed in which is also fenced in. It was perfect for our 2 huskies. The screen porch and the soft lighting especially after dark was a very enjoyable place to spend some time together. The place is very clean (spotless actually). The private pool (also fenced in inside the main property) was also a nice touch. I could go on but part of me wants to delete this review so less people know about this gem. Oh and the beach.....its right across the street. We r returning ...soon.

Booked this charming place for our 50th anniversary months in advance. We settled in had a great evening. At 2:00 am we were woken up by loud scraping metal noise and thought someone was trying to break in but that was not the problem. This continued all night long to the point we couldn’t take it and left early the next morning after hearing birds or something alive in the attic. Not the memories we were hoping for the this milestone anniversary. Very upsetting.

Enjoyed a few days at the cabin before the busyness of summer. The area is lovely. A sleepy little town - at least this time of year. The cabin itself, perfect for 2 adults and our pups.

We loved our stay. Everything was perfect and very relaxing.

Fantastic little cabin! Neat community. Highly recommend.

Nice property with great fireplace in the screened porch for evening fires. Close to the beach by walking through property. Quiet but near places within walking distance to eat. A great location to disconnect from the world and listen to the birds and walk the beach.

My husband and I and our fur babies loved the amenities and location. We are hoping to return for a longer stay.

We love the cabin in the Pass. Perfect location. And the screened in porch is awesome.

This was an incredible stay at an incredible property. Our pups LOVED the surroundings ... in fact, the landlord permitted use of their neighbouring yard - which made for a terrific howliday for the furry babies. We ALSO enjoyed the beautiful home with the AMAZING outdoor family room and fireplace. Just a wonderful property .. we had a ball and we would HIGHLY recommend this beautiful place!

Everything was fine except the door locks are kind of tricky.

The porch is fantastic! Would stay here again. Highly recommend this cabin.

We had this trip planned for quite some time and were so looking forward to the stay. This rental did not disappoint. It is a peaceful historical property. that is simply beautiful and charming. The property manager Rebecca is wonderful and quickly answered questions we had. She made us feel very welcome here. We found Pass Christian by accident 20 years ago and vowed we would come back to this charming town... We do plan to visit again and hope to stay at this wonderful home. The "little kitchen" is well equipped and delightful. We made several seafood dinners here. We had a rocky time getting here from Minnesota - dealing with snowstorms in Iowa - but so well worth the trip. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Great location, close proximity to the beach, restaurants and stores, with a nice fenced yard for pets. We enjoyed the screened patio and fireplace too. The bedroom and den were spacious and had everything needed to prepare a full meal or enjoy takeout. It was nice, thank you!

What a wonderful place to spend Thanksgiving! The cabin has a great full kitchen, is well stocked with utensils, and the host has anticipated any need a visitor might have. So comfortable, and the yard was so fun to be able to walk around with the pugs. We appreciated every detail, and we had such a nice time in charming Pass Christian. The Cat Island coffee and book shop had some great special books, and Sea Level and Shaggy’s were fun to visit. The scenic drive was beautiful along the beach road. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

Lanai is amazing.
New lighting is great.
We had a wonderful time.

Needed a few days to relax and getaway…this property was perfect! Can’t wait to return…everything about it was excellent!

One word comes to mind when I think of Pass Christian and this quaint little cabin…magical. It is one of the most serene and peaceful places I have ever stayed. Sitting on the screen porch at night with a roaring fire and then being in the same spot in the morning drinking coffee and listening to the birds sing. The cabin is small but well stocked with everything you need. It’s close proximity to the beach was awesome. If I had a complaint it would be that the mattress was not as comfy as it could be and the bathroom sink drains really slowly. Both minor issues compared to everything else. Will definitely book again.

Our second stay. Really enjoyed the updated screened in porch

First, the cottage is adorable. The large fenced in yard was a big winner with our two dogs. It was so well equipped with anything you could possibly need, especially for food preparation. The bed was very comfortable and the towels were a pleasant surprise.
We will absolutely return. Rebecca was very responsive and answered any question we had.

Very nice area! Very close to the beach!

Perfect & relaxing place to stay. Historic cabin with modern finishes, everything was comfortable & nice. Great A/C & loved the screen porch - would love to come back when it cools off so we could try out the fireplace!! Our dogs loved the huge fenced in yard.
I’ve read other reviews about having problems with the French doors - once we figured it out, we had no problems. My recommendation for the instructions would be to say “turn knob up” instead of “lift knob”
We loved the cabin & Pass Christian, already planning another trip❤️

We loved the cabin and the property! It was 100+ degrees during our stay and the pool was so much fun and the air conditioning in the cabin the best I've ever felt. My husband never even complained one time of being hot inside. The porch is beautiful and its nice being screened in from flying bugs. The owner always answered the phone and was nice and helpful. The location was the best, close to all the fun stuff in Port St Louis, and walmart in long beach. My kids loved the yard and looking for bugs, lizards, and frogs and the dog always watching over them. It was great first vacation for our service dog in training. The cabin was clean and smelled clean. It was a great perk to see the cooking oils, salt, pepper, tinfoil ect! The paper towels and toilet paper were even better quality than I've had in other places. We really loved this quiet get away for our family and we really relaxed here. Thank you for this special place with a special history behind it. We can't wait to come back.

Slight hiccup with the check-in process, but the manager was great to have it corrected right away. We took three dogs with us, and it was a great property for having pets (fully fenced yard), with plenty of room for them to run around. Screened in porch was great, furniture was clean, and the beds were comfortable (even the sleeper sofa!). Only small complaint would be that the previous renters hadn’t completely picked up after their dogs, but as dog owners, we understand that it’s possible to miss some here and there.

I try to come stay at least 2 times a year. I love to come back.to my hometown and "recharge my batreries." The Teddy Roosevelt cabin is always our first choice unless it is booked. This is our 3rd visit since the upgrades have been done and probably my 12th or more in the past 11 years. I absolutely love the screened room upgrades. My old pup used to think this was his home away from home. He left us a few months ago and this is our first time back without him. We did get to bring our new foster dog wih us though and she loved it just as much as he did. It is always perfection if peace and tranquility is what you are looking for. Bring some good books and an appetite for all the delicious restaurants around. Be ready to listen to the birds and relax by the fireplace or in the pool. Im so thankful they aren't just dog friendly, but also BIG dog friendly. Thank yall for sharing your litle piece of paradise with us and the pups. It is so nice to get to see them run around and play. Cant wait to come baxk in the fall or winter to enjoy the fireplace.

Check in/out was super easy. No need to contect the property manager about anything. There's a small charcoal BBQ on site and a few pool/beach toys. Kitchen was small but well appointed with everything one needs to cook a decent meal from the local "catch of the day". We lucked out with no neighbors being home during our stay so it was very quiet. We loved the Cat Island Cafe down the street for breakfast/coffee, and theres some good night life and themed restaurants over in Bay St. Louis if you're into that kind of thing.
Overall, great stay. Even the pull out sofa bed was comfortable. Oh and the dogs loved the yard too. They even provide dog bowls just in case you forgot yours!

Wow, just wow!! We were so amazed with the cleanliness of the property and convenience to the beach and restaurants. We frequently visit the casino in Bay St. Louis, but were looking for a place more low key and pet friendly. This is definitely the place we were looking for!! We enjoyed hearing the train come through and listening to all the birds while on the screened in porch. Our Boston Terrier had so much fun fetching his frisbees in the fenced in yard. We have already booked for next summer!!

The house is absolutely adorable and the property is wonderful. It is slightly further from the beach that we anticipated because we are accustomed to the truly "on the beach" houses of FL. This is NOT that. The walk is short - you cut through the backyard and the yard of the owner and then have to cross a slightly busy street. We actually drove over in the mornings with our chairs, umbrella, cooler, etc., and then left things set up all day, walking back and forth as we needed things from the house. The beach is deserted and the sand is actually very nice.
Our dog loved the yard and we loved the house! I had a question the first day we arrived and the owner responded right away. If you're looking for a cute place to stay for a couple or small family, close to the beach, book this house!

Great little cabin: I stayed for the week with my granddaughter and we had a very nice time. The property and neighborhood are beautiful and the house is well equipped.
