About this house rental
Hawaii Tax I.D. NO. W67125384-01
Hale Alaula, or House of the Sunset Glow, is a renovated cottage located right on a beautiful sandy beach in sunny Puako. As you can see from the pictures, the house is full of modern and newly furnished appliances and furniture. The master bedroom has a king size bed with it's own half bathroom and outdoor shower. Walk out the door from the bedroom into an outdoor shower surrounded by bamboo. A full bathroom is attached to the living room area where the punee sleeps two. Wake up and go to sleep with views of the morning glow and unbelievable sunsets. The living room is equipped with two punees (Hawaiian day beds) that can sleep two people, ideal for children. The kitchen is fully equipped with all stainless steel appliances including a oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. From the kitchen you can walk out onto the lanai and eat your meals on a new outdoor table.
Coral washes up on the Puako's shores and creates a beautiful white sanded beach. The beach in front of Hale Alaula is far enough from any beach access point that few visitors wander by, providing you with plenty of privacy while still allowing you to enjoy the coastline. Just a few doors up shore is an easy access point to climb into the warm Hawaiian waters at the perfect location to experience some of Hawaii's best snorkeling. Directly in front of the beach access point are some undersea arches that are fun to swim around, over, and under. The reef is full of a plethora of different species of fish, starfish, eels, and sometimes rays. Occasionally a pod of dolphins will swim by, and in the winter months you can see the humpback whales breach the surface and hear their song under the water.
Puako is famous for its abundance of sea turtles, and just north of Hale Alaula is the "turtle cleaning station," where sea turtles go to let the yellow tang fish to pick algae off of their shells. Take a walk up the shore and you're sure to see plenty of turtles basking in the shallow waters or napping in the sun.
Hale Alaula is the perfect Hawaiian home to experience the serenity of the island and the wonders it has to offer, both on land and in the sea.

Gorgeous location. Quiet. Private. Directly on the water. Visited every evening by three sea turtles a few hours before sunset. General Store just down the street with incredible sandwiches for your daily adventures. Only big criticism, claiming AC is stretching the truth. There is a tiny unit in one bedroom. And it can only cool that one bedroom. It was quite hot and humid during our stay and that wasn’t pleasant.

Our stay at Puako was one of the most memorable experiences we have had on any of our more than 20 visits to the Hawaiian islands. Wandering the tide pools on the beach in front of the house, snorkeling some of the most special water we have seen right out in front of the place. Watching turtles come out of the water for a little sun. Watching whales and dolphins playing right off the beach. Hearing the whales while snorkeling. Simply relaxing and enjoying the beach was absolutely wonderful.
There were occasions during our 9 day stay when the waves were coming in a little too high to allow for a reasonably safe entry, in front of the place, but just down the road a little way, near the Church, was a wonderfully protected place to enter the water.
The wifi was sufficient such that I was able to conduct a little business from the lanai.
The view from each of the rooms great, the only knock I have was that I had to spend about an hour cleaning the windows to fully take advantage of the great views.

We saw turtles, whales, and plenty of birds from the backyard. The birding book was especially helpful.

We had such an amazing stay at this beautiful cottage by the sea! How lucky we are to have found this place. Inside and outside the property, everything was pristine. How lush and peaceful the property grounds. The view of the stars at night in the garden facing the ocean,..a perfect stay in paradise. I highly recommend to everybody looking for some quiet time and a slice of heaven. Our host was so friendly and pleasant, willing to accommodate our inquiries/ requests here and there. Thank you for a memorable and wonderful time! We will keep this place in mind for future visits to the big island.

We loved our stay here. We don’t like the hotel scene so this place is well equipped for cooking and enjoying the local culture and area or just hanging out. The location is perfect. We would definitely come again!

My wife and I stayed at this home in July to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. This cute home is steps away from the ocean and loaded with everything you need for a quiet getaway. The location is spectacular and close to everything you need - restaurants, beaches, groceries, activities, ect. Turtles are right out front. Wild turkey's came to visit. The furniture indoors and out is in great shape as are the appliances. The bed was very comfortable. The A/C was fully functional. We only used it for a few hours during the hottest part of the day because the sea breezes kept the house comfortable most of the day. We can't wait to come back again!

This is a well kept property and unbelievable location. The home has great craftsmanship and all the features you could ask for. We hope to return again and again. It is perfect for a couple wanting to escape traffic and cold weather. Nothing less than an A+.

This was our first stay on the Big Island, but won't be our last. After a week at a resort, we moved to Cindy's wonderful property for a second, even more relaxing week. Everything was great. The perfect base from which to easily get to a variety of fantastic beaches and explore the Kohala coast.

Down a residential road on the water, a beautiful setting, very well maintained property! Right on the ocean, basking turtles and whale watching during season. Walking distance to Hapuna Beach. An absolute gem of a property, great for 2 to 4 people.

We are a scuba-diving family and love to dive right off the shore. This lovely beach house suits us perfectly. It has a great layout, is well-furnished and comfortable. We love exploring the reef, counting the turtles and watching the sunsets on the beach. The owner is very easy to contact and quickly responds. Definitely a slice of paradise!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful section of the Big Island. A perfect location in all respects. The breaking waves provided a perfect lullaby. A peaceful and quiet back porch and yard. Home well equipped and comfortable. Look forward to our return.

Great location right on the water (Puako Reef) with a little sandy beach and a hammock plus large yard and lanai for outdoor living. House was very comfortable and well appointed. Looking at other nearby comparable properties, we thought this one was a very good value. We hope to return someday.

Heavenly place
We so enjoyed this home. Turtles visited us every day, a couple of cattle egrets patrolled the front yard, and we even had a band of wild turkeys wander through. The space is well laid out and the louvered windows were perfect at keeping the house very comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the patio, which had several seating areas, unusual for a house of this size. The owners clearly care about guests' experience. We hope to return soon!

Me and my wife booked Hale Alaula in January for our honeymoon that was originally booked in May. Needless to say, the 2020 pandemic threw a wrench in those plans. Cindy however was there every step of the way (through many postponements) determined to help us have the best honeymoon possible. Her and her family usually stay there during the only time we could go, so they gave up part of their vacation for us.
As for the property, it’s as advertised and more. It is equipped with everything you need and is very clean. It truly feels like a family home that has been lived in and loved. We enjoyed walking out on the Lava rocks every day to watch turtles bask in the sun, snorkeling in the Puako Bay and taking short drives to go on hikes all along the northern point. We can’t say enough great things about this place. We hope to return someday.

Perfect location
We really enjoyed this house. The location was perfect, close to some sandy beaches and the beach in front of the house was a great place to explore. Close to Kona if you want to venture there. There are some really nice restaurants and shopping just minutes away. We loved the hammock and the outdoor shower ! We saw a flock of wild turkeys walk through the back yard ! Also the house has everything you need,

As Alaska residents we escape to Hawaii annually during the winter. Over the past 45 years we have stayed on every island except Lanai. Hale Alaula is best = excellent location, clean, well maintained, stocked, and appointed. We now see why it receives nothing but 5 star ratings.

A Perfect Paradise
Hale Alaula is a fantastic place to relax! The property exceeded our expectations. It is located in a quiet neighborhood. The location is private, and the view of the ocean and sunsets is unmatched. The cottage is clean, well maintained and perfect for a couple or small family, and it's only a 7 minute drive to one of the best beaches in Hawaii, Hapuna Beach State Park. As others have mentioned, the outdoor shower was great! All necessary beach items such as chairs, umbrellas, cooler, and boogie boards are provided. The owner, Cindy, is very accommodating, responsive, and easy to work with.. We can't say enough good things about this place and can't wait for our next visit!

Wonderful beach cottage
First, we like the location: Puako is quiet and not touristy. We fell in love with this beach cottage as we opened the door. It is clean & welcoming, with a full-on view of the ocean. We really liked the island decor and color scheme. All of the furniture is comfortable. The property has everything we needed and more. Judy, the property manager, was responsive and friendly. Our communication with Cindy, the owner, was great. We needed nothing and enjoyed every minute of our stay. It was the perfect place for us. We had green sea turtle visitors on the lava rock in front of the cottage (we kept a respectful distance), and we viewed an amazing humpback whale display from the lanai. We loved coffee/breakfast on the lanai every morning. The outdoor shower is a treat. I could go on . . . Thank you, Cindy, for allowing us to stay at your wonderful property.

Perfect spot for a tranquil getaway!
My husband and I stayed at Hale Alaula for a week in December and wish we could have stayed for a month! The setting of the house is absolutely spectacular. There's a rare sandy beach and huge lanai right outside the back doors where we enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, lunches, dinners, and turtle watching. Puako is one of the most uniquely beautiful places in the world and this home truly allows its visitors to experience that fully with the indoor/outdoor setup. The house is also perfectly appointed with everything we needed for cooking, lounging, exploring, etc. And the main room bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on. Thank you for making our time in Puako so special! We will be back!

Relaxing taste of Old Hawaii
A beautiful Hawaii retreat. Great location right on the beach. We prefer the more laid-back (not big and fancy!) places and this suited us perfectly. We enjoyed nightly cocktails on the beach watching the beautiful sunset. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing.

Spectacular in every way!
This property is located on the very best stretch of (rocky) beach on the island of Hawaii, especially if you're into water sports... Amazing snorkeling & scuba diving, swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding are right outside the back door (and there are local vendors nearby so you can rent any gear you might need).
The house is charming, clean, welcoming, and has everything you need for a relaxing vacation. We loved the outdoor shower! The yard is spacious and provides the perfect spot for a BBQ dinner and a fruity cocktail while watching the sunset. What you see in the photos is exactly what you'll experience when you arrive.
The little community of Puako is one of Hawaii's secret gems. It's just far enough away from crowded resorts and public beaches that it feels secluded & private, but it's close enough to Waimea, Waikoloa, and Kailua-Kona that it's easy to run out to the market, shave-ice shop, or an upscale restaurant.
The owner was super easy to communicate with prior to our visit (mahalo Cindy!) and the property manager was responsive and extremely helpful when we needed a little assistance.
I can't imaging a better place for a peaceful and relaxing family vacation. We will definitely be coming back.

Dreamy Big Island stay
Cindy’s house is the perfect, well-kept little beach home. Unbeatable location right on the coral-flecked sand, gorgeous large yard, back patio perfect for dining and drinking and simply being, and AC in the master bedroom... ahhh. Loved our stay here - ideal spot for two adults and two kids.

The house was beautiful and everything was wonderful. It’s right on the water which is exactly what we wanted and we were able to see turtles and dolphins! Everything was amazing and we would definitely go back.

Breathtaking Hawaiian paradise holiday!
Absolutely gorgeous property in a spectacular location! This is a lovely and welcoming cottage with all the beauty of Hawaii right out the back door. Sunsets, lush garden with flowers, swaying palms, and views that will make you swoon! Turtles basking in the sun greeted us on the shore when we arrived! The cottage is well appointed with absolutely everything you might need. We loved making delicious meals to enjoy on the patio, and cocktails in the awesome hammock! Snorkeling is fabulous literally right out the back door. When we did manage to pry ourselves away, local resorts have wonderful dining and water sports: SUP, kayaking, diving with mantas. Kona town for exploring, Hilo for ATV jungle adventure - and awesome tacos at Coconuts! And the City of Refuge is not to be missed. After a day of exploring coming home to our private paradise was EVERYTHING. The bedrooms are darling and super comfy. The outside shower is my favorite - Holy Mai tai! everyone should have one of these!! The decor is clean, bright and inviting. TV, WiFi, all great, though with the VIEWS, we couldn’t seem to peel ourselves away from the patio; morning coffee, post snorkeling snack, dinner and drinks; seriously every time of day is gorgeous here. Oh and the little general store right up the road has everything. The owner Cindy is super sweet and literally thought of every single thing you might want or need. This is where we’re staying for ever more!
