I believe this is our 5th or 6th stay here, we've kind of lost track. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the Stonehouse versus the chaos and poor restaurant options in the park, but with relatively quick access to St. Mary's, Many Glacier and some of the best hiking and wildlife opportunities that Glacier Park has to offer.
Once again, we saw a mother Black Bear and her two cubs out the dining room picture window just across the road in the meadow. I'm guessing it might be the same mom we've seen in previous years.
Thanks again David and family for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back in 2026.

Beautiful views from an amazing cabin near Duck Lake! Excellent communication with host. Our family really enjoyed the location which was near the east side of going to the Sun Road and many glacier. Thank you for Allowing us to stay at your house, David

Geat location on the east side of Glacier National Park providing quick access to St. Mary's Valley, Logan's Pass, and Manny Glacier Valley sections of the park. Also just a 45 minute drive to Waterton National Park in Canada.

Owner responded promptly to all questions. Setting was gorgeous. It had ample supplies of towels, kitchen towels, dishes, plus many extras. Very close to St Mary's & Many Glacier.

Great location for easy access to Many Glacier and St. Mary's entrances to GNP. Clean, comfortable, well stocked. Enjoy a most stunning view of the mountains of Glacier from the dining room table all day, every day. Loved the quiet, unplugged, remoteness of this location. No wifi. Verizon service worked best. Great communication from host at all times before, during and after the visit. Shop before you arrive as grocery stores nearby are limited (host told us that ahead of time as well) Saw moose, deer and cows on the land behind the house. Would stay there again and will recommend to friends. Perfect for those who want a quieter, Glacier National Park experience.

Great launching point for Many Glacier, St Mary's, and Two Medicine. House slept 4 very comfortably and everything worked well. Great views of Glacier National Park. We definitely would rent again!

We enjoyed the house and the property. The views and location are ideal for East side (i.e., less crowded) entry into the park.
Our only negative is that the basement is musty smelling. It would improve the house if there was a way to minimize that smell. While it wasn't a problem for our family members that stayed downstairs, there are others for whom that would have been unpleasant.
Communication with owner was easy.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Stone House! Equipped with everything we needed, great location, and the best part was the views all around!! There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views from both the inside and the outside of the house. We would definitely recommend this house to others!

Four men over 67 spent 5 days on the Blackfeet Reservation, staying at the StoneHouse. It was designed and built by the owner, musician Dave Walburn, who is a song writer, guitar player and singer. The StoneHouse is a reflection of Dave's asthetic as an artist. Inside and out, Dave's choices are like the composition of his tunes_ a pleasure to behold. Iff one looks, he/she can see that the protective firewall behind the living room stove reflects the silhouette of the actual mountain range viewed through the house's
west window. Many other details throughout the house demonstrate Dave's skills as a carpenter and creative designer. His attention to detail make the StoneHouse a special place to stay. This was our second year staying at Dave's beautiful and interesting StoneHouse. Thanks, Dave, for helping make our MT experience so special.

This home was the perfect place to relax in after long days exploring East Glacier. It was well stocked with all of the necessities that we needed. We enjoyed cooking out on the gas grill and drinking coffee on the porch in the mornings. Beds were comfy, living space was relaxing, playing pool was a lot of fun for the family- and the views were AMAZING!! We watched the most breathtaking sunsets from the patio area- they didn’t even look real. This was the perfect location for our time exploring Glacier. We did lots of hikes, and highly recommend the Observatory session at St. Mary’s visitor center if that’s going on while you are there. It was taking place Wed-Sat while we were there, so we went one of the nights and saw more stars (shooting stars and the Milky Way) than we’ve ever seen in the night sky. Totally worth staying up late one night. I’m not sure if it mentions this in the description or not, but for my teens it was a little shocking- there wasn’t a TV or internet/WiFi- which was totally fine and allowed us more time to play games and reconnect as a family, but I wanted to mention it. For us, it just made it challenging to plan for our daily hikes because we weren’t able to see what closures there were each day. Other thing I wanted to mention is to go grocery shopping in one of the bigger towns before heading to the house if you plan on packing lunches or cooking dinner. There are a couple of local markets but they have very limited options for meats and veggies. Overall our stay in this home was perfect!! We enjoyed all of the little unique touches that this home had to offer. The artwork throughout the home was beautiful and it was clear home much detail David put in to making this home extra special.

An ideal spot for a Glacier National Park vacation!
This property was cozy sand beautiful. The views were spectacular and it was just the right amount of seclusion from the busy world for our family of five. We were able to fully relax and be in “vacation mode” upon entering this great spot. Really-just stop reading other reviews and snag your dates here! We stopped at both the IGA and Family Foods in Browning for groceries-trust me and skip the IGA, Family Foods is where it’s at. We also had the pleasure of dining at Rising Sun Pizza in St. Mary’s-that place is delicious. Just come here, trust us.

StoneHouse Stay
We 5 anglers gathered at the Stonehouse in early September, 2021. Our focus was to explore the wonders of
Glacier National Park and fish on the Blackfeet Reservation. Our experience was an 11 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being fantastic). We caught rainbow trout, we grilled them, and served ourselves one of the best fish dinners we've ever had. We did manage to catch and release quite a few fish as well. Glacier Parking the gem on MT. The views of the Rockies on the Going to the Sun Road will overwhelm your senses. A camera will not capture then essence of our perception. Our experience was enhanced by the comfort and utility of the StoneHouse owned by Dave Walburn. Our accommodations were superlative. The StoneHouse sits on a high point overlooking Duck Lake. The sunrise greets you through then East facing windows in the morning and sets outside the west windows in the evening. The early sun and late colors of Montana skies are remarkable. It is obvious that Dave pre-conceived the total design and placement of the house prior to construction in order to enable a view of those sunrises and sunsets. Placement of the structure and attention to. detail is noteworthy throughout the exterior and interior of the lodge.
Regarding our host Dave Walburn, we all sensed a man that was helpful, accommodating, interesting, resourceful, authentic, and an all around good guy that wants his guests to have a positive experience. And beyond that, Dave is an accomplished singer, song writer, and guitarist. One evening, Dave joined us around our traditional campfire. Over some scotch and cigars (Dave prefers wine), our host gave us a sense of the history and culture of such a wondrous place on the Blackfeet Reservation- something we all will retain and ponder as we return to the routine of our own lives. Dave sang some of his own songs.
The best endorsement we can offer is the fact that we plan to return to the StoneHouse. next year- provided fate, circumstance, or poor judgment does not stop us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dave Walburn's StoneHouse.

Our third trip to Stonehouse although this trip made us value the location and property even more. With visitation in the park at its peak and limited services due to COVID, it was great to have a peaceful place to stay and prepare our own meals and not have to rely on the services in the park.
Access to some of the lesser used trails on the east side of the park is not far from the Stonehouse.
You don't even have to leave they Stonehouse to see the Glacier wildflowers and wildlife. We weren't there more than three hours when we spotted a black bear in the meadow across the road and there was Grebe nesting in the lake right in front of the property.
Thanks again to David and JJ and family.

We loved our ten day stay at this amazing house in early July. Despite what earlier reviews said, we found there to be no issues whatsoever with this awesome home. It was very clean, well equipped, and the owners were incredibly responsive. The basement level was also very clean and comfortable, on equal par with the rest of the house. The water tasted just fine on its own, and the owners provided a water filter that we didn't feel the need to use. The location was exactly what we were hoping for- super easy access to Many Glacier and St. Marys area, and it was so refreshing to be unplugged for ten days. We hope to stay at this house again!
