Puako at its finest—quiet, comfortable and spacious with wonderful access to the ocean and petroglyphs.

We had two families stay here together and it worked well for us. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and shower which was really nice. We loved the huge outdoor seating area and the great location near the best snorkel spots. Host was very available. We would definitely come back!

Sunsets at the beach across the street were beautiful and kids loved playing in the tide pools!

We really liked this house. It was one of the most comfortable places we have ever rented. The house was clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed with good quality dishes and cookware. The bed we used had a comfortable mattress and pillows. One of the pleasant features of this house was the many windows that allowed good air flow into the house. I always rent a house with air conditioning but we didn’t need it at all with this house. My husband loved the large lanai and spent most of his time outside the house on the lanai. Scott was pleasant when I needed questions answered and otherwise an unintrusive host.

Rented the mango hale for myself and 3 friends. The house was perfect. We each had our own bedroom/bathroom - each room had its own vibe/features. 2 bedrooms were more inside the house, the other two off the lanai. My room had an outdoor shower which was so refreshing. We were so close to ocean access (very rocky - sandals/water shoes were a benefit). Sat out on the lanai every morning drinking coffee. It was seriously one of the best vrbo’s. Thank you!

My husband and I call Mango Hale “our happy place”. This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and will be back next year.
This is a fantastic property. Huge lanai with two large sitting areas, dining table and grill. We love being awakened every morning to the birds as the sunrises, drinking coffee on the lanai. Then going for a quick snorkel across the street or a long hike along the ocean past the resorts. The location couldn’t be better.
The property is very clean and well stocked. The kitchen has all the equipment needed to prepare meals. The provided bath and beach towels are good quality.
There are private balconies with 2 of the bedrooms with nice chairs as well as another off the kitchen with table, chairs and a shoe rack to hold all your sandy flip flops. All the furniture and beds are comfortable.
Lots of beach equipment (chairs, boards, noodles, cooler) available.
Both Scott and Rick are attentive, but not at all intrusive… only seem to be there when you need them…perfect hosts.

A lovely location and an excellent value. Though it's very near the resorts and some palatial new beach pads, it's old-school Hawaii.
The nearest beaches are very "local," nice for walking, sitting, or fishing. (It's a short drive to white-sand Hapuna, where you now pay big bucks to show up: $10/vehicle + $5/person --> 4 people = $30).
There's persistent ants in the building, including fire ants. My ant Kung Fu is strong, so we had a truce and no one was bitten/stung. But be clean, proactive, and alert, and I don't recommend going around barefoot.
The surprise was the sleeping situation. There *are* 4 bedrooms, but with the funky semi-open layout, no room offers complete cool and quiet. Either the rooms don't have AC, or doors, or windows that you can close to the outside. But it usually cools off at night, and the two cooling units (heat pumps) definitely help.
I want to emphasize that it's not all bad. I'm saying manage your expectations and you'll have a unique and charming experience of Hawaii the way it used to be.

My family and I LOVED staying here! It's a little out of the way to get to, but just stock up beforehand. It's basically at the end of a quiet, beautiful street and about 100 feet from access to a quiet, gorgeous shorefront with a long shorefront walking path. Shore is largely rocky and not sandy, but there were numerous turtles and area was fine for beginner snorkellers. Was so helpful to be able to just walk "home" after being there. Shorefront seems used mainly by locals and extends quite a ways. Quiet and private. House was very well appointed, clean, safe, with gorgeous landscaping and lanais everywhere. Geckos frequent the back lanai and were very entertaining. So peaceful to just sit outside and enjoy the beauty. House very well supplied, comfortable, and pleasant. Wish I would have stayed here the whole week and a half instead of booking a condo for the other part of the trip!

Highly Recommended
We had a wonderful time! Enjoyed the accommodations, especially the treetop bedroom which gave us a 360-degree view of the area, including Mauna Kea and a peekaboo view of the ocean. The lush, tropical vegetation surrounding this home gives this private getaway a true Hawaiian feel. Our host, Scott, was very friendly and helpful when we needed assistance. We’re already talking about returning someday with even more family members.

A bit of paradise
Absolutely loved Hale Mango. This well appointed house is surrounded by lush vegetation and across the street from beach access. We loved listening to to the birds and feeling the fresh ocean breezes. Scott is a gracious host and works hard to create this lovely environment. We were sad to leave.

Perfect location, beautifully maintained property
This trip was our second stay at Mango Hale. This house is very well maintained, clean, well appointed and stocked with the basics of paper towels, TP, soaps. The linens are in excellent condition…clean, no stains. The towels provided for both bathing and beach are thick and fluffy. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, utensils, pots/pans…everything you need! Even a blender and coffee grinder. The lanai runs the length of the house and has very comfortable seating, a nice dining area and a Weber propane grill.
We have stayed in many beach properties for over 25 years and this is the best by far. Many times beach houses are filled with odds and ends that people decide to stick at their Beachhouse. This is absolutely NOT the case with Mango Hale. Mango Hale is purposely equipped and appointed with good furniture, good linens, good equipment. It really is like being at home away from home.
The location is fabulous as well. We walked across the street every evening to watch the sunset. You can see turtles every day at one of the public beach accesses on Puako Beach Road.
And Scott is a great host. He is there when we need him but not obtrusive at all. We only know he’s there when we happen to need something or if he’s sharing a mango or dragon fruit with us. We will definitely be back!

Relaxing and beautiful
The house was great for our comfort. Our favorite activity was walking across the street to the ocean to snorkel and sea turtle watch!

Beautiful house and location
We just arrived home from 12 nights in Mango Hale. The more time went by, the more I loved and appreciated this beautiful house. Scott has done an amazing job on this place. You have to be ok with "country" living, a few crawling critters here and there, but I am someone who would much rather be in a natural environment than in a sterile resort. The neighborhood is quiet, there are numerous great swim spots close by, as well as the amazing north side of the Island within easy reach. Beds were comfy, lots of towels, kitchen B+ on stocking, gorgeous lanais. The wind at night was so lovely and there were beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Really a remarkable stay and I encourage people to avail themselves of this fabulous property. Mahalo, Scott. I hope to be back.

Spring Break Get-away
Nice, comfortable house - had everything we needed. Scott was friendly and helpful as needed. We usually stay in Waikoloa with all the beach, shops, and amenities we could possibly need, so this was a bit of an adjustment that we knowingly chose - for awareness, you will need to get in a car for all of those things as there is nothing similar within walking distance (the local general store is bare bones and limited hours).

Definitely coming back!
We loved our stay at this property! Plenty of space for large group! Each room has access to a lanai and own bathroom. Plenty of space for your own privacy if needs. Access to nearby beaches canʻt be beat! Lovely quiet neighborhood. In mango season, you could reach out of the window and pick your own! We will definitely book this house again!

Cool house in Hawaii
The home was a perfect island get away. The unit had all we needed and a cool screened room, waking in the morning to the birds. For the windy nights there are rooms with less noise and air-conditioning units. There were multiple decks and comfortable deck furniture. The unit was kitty-corner from the beach. The beach had beautiful sunsets and a great reef.
This unit will be on our list for our next trip.

The Best Stay
Scott is amazingly chill and yet very attentive. The perfect host really. The location can not be beat at this place. The best ocean park to hang on is right across the street. We saw turtles, colorful fish, and fabulous sunsets. Then we walked three minutes back home. The home is spacious, full of light, and soft breezes. There is plenty of room to be alone, and together. We really relaxed there. I won't stay anywhere else on the Big Island again, this place is like home.
Thank you Scott for being such a great host. We really loved our stay.

Wonderful
We are an extended family of 7 and were nicely accommodated in the 4 bedroom 4 bathroom home on 2 levels with a wonderful large deck in the back plus smaller decks off the bedrooms. Lots of privacy. Location great too with several beach accesses across the street.
Scott was super & very helpful. It was a great 8 day vacation for all of us!

We really enjoyed our stay. Perfect location, clean house, lots of room, friendly management, etc.
We spent three evenings at the property and the tree of us all enjoyed our stay there. We were impressed with the property, just as described, and the location was ideal. We were greeted by Drew and felt comfortable and safe. We hope to come back someday.

Lovely Puako house
Beautiful, peaceful spot in Puako in a quiet neighborhood. Really loved the feel of Mango Hale, it has everything you need and nothing you don’t. We saw turtles everyday at Paniau Beach right across the street.

Paradise!
Fantastic stay as usual- we’ve stayed at this property multiple times because it simply doesn’t get any better on the Big Island— feels like authentic Hawaii away from the resorts, with the locals. Beautiful home that has a great layout for couples or families. Decks on front and back with a bbq grill- we used it every night! The upstairs bedroom is like sleeping in the tree canopy- beautiful views of trees and sounds of the ocean and a fantastic sunrise. Loved having all the beach toys available as well. The outdoor showers were sublime! Thank you to Rick and Scott for sharing your wonderful place- we will be back!

Fabulous place in a fabulous location
I am not sure what more someone could ask of in a vacation rental. The booking and the pre-stay communication with Scott was great...he responds quickly to any question asked. Check-in was a breeze and Scott was available throughout our stay but was totally unobtrusive.
The property is so well maintained and cleaner than any beach rental we have stayed. Everything is in good working order and the place is well equipped. The beach and bath towels were good quality as were the bed linens. We appreciated that there were paper towels, toilet paper, coffee filters, plastic wrap. The kitchen was well equipped so if you like to cook, there are good pans, pots, utensils, etc.
Our favorite area was the HUGE lanai with comfortable chairs on one end , a nice sofa and chair on the other end with s dining table in the middle with a nice Weber propane grill. And the 2 outdoor showers!
And I haven’t even mentioned the location! It is simply an incredible location. Just steps across the quiet road are multiple beach accesses that have great snorkeling areas as well as a turtle resting area. A wonderful place to watch the sunsets. And only a few minutes drive from one of the best beaches on the big Island: Hapuna Beach.
We spent 10 glorious days here and are already planning to come back next year.

Renwed
My wife and I needed a peaceful place to renew our soles and the Mango Hale did just that.
Comfortable, quiet, serene and beautiful!
We will be back for a longer stay early next year.

Loved Mango Hale!
All around great experience in this house! We are a family with two teenagers and it was great to have our own bedrooms, each with a bathroom and a lanai with a view. The house is beautiful, well-equipped, and comfortable. The location is off the beaten path, directly across from the shore, and within easy driving distance of gorgeous beaches. I probably wouldn't recommend this house for families with small children, as two of the bedrooms are accessed from the outside, but it's fantastic for couples or families with older kids. I hope we can get back to Mango Hale some day!

Wonderful
Scott is amazing! First he showed us everything around like best snorkeling spot and good way to get in the water, the beach trail, the way to general store that is fun to bike and a lot more. The house and lanais are beautiful and sweet mangos that Scott shared were delicious. The location is super nice as it is close to best beaches on the island. Our favorite beaches are Mauna Kea beach - hard to get in, Hapuna Beach, Beach 69. We were snorkeling before breakfast and walked beach trail at sunsets. Loved Volcano National Park and hiking path to the crater of volcano with some steam vents, Green Sand Beach was unforgettable and if you can walk 2.57 miles I would recommend walking down hill and along the ocean to enjoy amazing views then maybe take ride from locals $10 per person one way. We got to Green Sand Beach late when sun was going down otherwise we would enjoy beautiful and powerful ocean views walking back to our car. That was magnificent and wonderful week on the Big Island.
