Mondern property, spacious rooms, very courteous staff. Really enjoyed the large pool and pool bar. Lovely breakfast options in the morning, both sweet and savory. Location a little remote from any other activities but good to relax for a weekend .

Main restaurant was not open. The one in the entrance has very limited menu. Not flexible when ask some minor changes for the dishes. No plug changer for European plugs at the front desk. No menu in the room for room service. An app can be added to the phone screen.

Amazing place, new, fresh, clean!

The San Barbato is truly excellent from every point of view! One can immediately tell that they strive for perfection in every corner. Beautiful architecture and interiors. High tech electronics everywhere, in every rooms, top quality bathrooms en-suite and everywhere else, maximum cleanliness and comfort. There is a wonderful Spa and fitness centre, but we have not had the opportunity to try it.
The grounds are beautiful kept, full of palm trees, even large baobabs and giant cactuses (or cacti).
The landscape gardner is definitely of the highest standard, too and so is the staff that keeps the grounds in pristine conditions at all times.
In fairness, the establishment is a work in progress. The golf side of the resort is unfinished and so is a new wing of the complex. We booked the San Barbato, partly because we wanted to dine at Don Alfonso 1890, the Michelin starred restaurant inside the resort, but unfortunately, because of the recent pandemic and some refurbishment work, it was closed until the first week of September.
There is another restaurant on the top floor, the Bellavista, not starred, but gourmet, serving really high quality food. Crucially, it is also used for the breakfast service, which is truly epic, particularly on the patisserie side, courtesy of the hugely talented Executive Pastry Chef, Tommaso Foglia.
The staff in the restaurant is also amazing. Exceptionally prepared, knowledgeable, friendly and always accommodating. A special mention goes to Nicola the sommelier, Giuseppe, Fabrizio (also an excellent cocktail maker!) and the maître d', whose name escapes me.
We have spent 6 days in the facility and one of the highlights has been the swimming pool. It's huge, beautifully designed, super clean, comfortable and full of hydromassage features. We must thank Michele for looking after us, whilst remaining super helpful, jovial and very efficient.
San Barbato is a real oasis of luxury, comfort and peace in the heart of the Basilicata region.
The savoury side of breakfast (cured meats, cheeses, eggs, etc.) is not included, it's extra. Perhaps our only suggestion would be to include some savoury dishes in the breakfast menu, free of charge. That's all.
