Great!

This cottage is in a great location, a short drive to the resorts area. Great beach access just across the street and not a far drive from many other beach access points. Great A/C units when needed. I loved the outside shower, my daughter also liked it but my son could not wrap his head around being outside and naked (no one can see you). Wonderful to have so many places to relax on the property, nice line to hang your towels on etc. The washer and dryer were handy to have.
The yard has A curry leaf tree to use as well as some herbs, added bonus we were given fresh mango and chayote to eat.
Overall, we would love to come back.

We had a fabulous time here in this beautifully restored surf cottage. Great location, David and Kim were great! Kitchen stocked with everything you may need, plenty of towels. Loved the outdoor shower!
Plenty of space to hang out front and back. Great sunset just across the street. We will definitely return!

The house is a great size with 2 lanais. It was very clean, and the hosts were available when needed. It was a fantastic experience.

Loved the graceful cottage and gardens. Being one block from the ocean was a fabulous location. David is a wealth of information about the history of the area and the natural world of Hawaii. The cottage has everything we needed in the kitchen and the bed was quite comfortable. We’d go back in a second.

It was a beautiful place to enjoy not only the natural herbs but also the flowers. When you step onto the front porch the plumerias and other scents were heavenly. The short walk to a very quiet beach provided some quiet time for us and some beautiful sunsets. The cottage is well equipped with every convenience. Loved the outdoor shower! Davis was the most considerate host, he gave us a tour of the house and the garden when we arrived and later brought us honey for Christmas. I highly recommend this little slice of heaven in Puako.

My family loved our stay here! David was a great host and exceeded our expectations, we loved seeing and hearing about all the beautiful plants in the yard and enjoyed trying some with our meals. Having laundry was a huge bonus, plenty of towels, beach toys, chairs, etc. The beds were comfortable with the ocean breeze blowing in the windows at night. The location is beautiful, lots of dreamy homes, turtles resting and snorkeling nearby, we even saw a whale! The ocean is right across the street, with shoreline access posted along the road.
It is far enough away from the resort areas you feel secluded, but close enough to drive and get groceries and meals. We enjoyed driving around the island, exploring beaches and the National Parks, shopping, it was wonderful having a quiet place to come to in the evening with the most beautiful stars right from the front porch! We look forward to visiting again!

Coffee on the lanai each morning listening to the chorus of birds welcoming the sunrise. Watching the brilliant sunsets each evening from the beach a 3 minute walk away. Short drives or walks to great beaches. David and Kim we thoroughly enjoyed our long stay in your comfy cottage. We hope to again and we recommend it to others seeking a peacefull holiday on the Big Island.

Very well equipped special beach cottage. The beach is a close walk, awash with stars after a sunset full of color. The gardenias were starting to pop so they wafted thru the kitchen window. The hosts were a delight and very welcoming

Just what we were looking for. Great location, quiet, safe and a huge portion of suburban Hawaii- try it while it is still available

We spent two weeks in Hawai’i, 4 different locations on two islands. Our stay in Puako was easily the best part. First, David is an absolutely amazing host. The grounds are filled with all sorts of plant life that my daughter enjoyed hearing David talk her through. We used the plants several times to accompany our meals. The property itself is great. Super clean, full amenities, comfortable beds and the outdoor shower is a great touch. Access to a nice beach for sunset is less than a 2 minute walk.
As for the location, it always comes down to a personal preference but Puako is in a great location for us. The proximity to small towns and a couple resort areas give enough options for dinner, shopping and exploring. The towns were fun to take in a little more of the typical Hawai’i living. Waimea was especially fun for us. You have to do the farmers markets on Saturday morning. There are also a couple touring companies that launch their activities out of the boat ramp 5 minutes down the road. Hapuna beach is the best beach we went to in Big Island and only 10 min down the road too. This area is a nice escape from the hustle of the downtown Kona area but close enough for the couple times we wanted/needed to go there. Oh yeah, a random collection of footrucks setup at the corner of Puako Beach Rd and the Highway, including some insanely delicious malasada’s.
We will be back here with David for sure!

This was the perfect little cottage for our adventurous family! It was extremely clean and comfortable, with all the amenities (and more) that we needed. The yard had so many beautiful plants and yard for my kids to explore and play. It’s right of the shore, and we were able to see honu (turtle) during sunrise and sunset. The location was close to tons of beautiful beaches, petroglyphs, and great hikes! David was an amazing host and was just a phone call away if we needed anything. We hope to return again soon. A hui ho :)

This is the only accommodation you’ll ever need on the Big Island! The hosts are lovely, knowledgeable and generous. The house is close to perfect beaches, turtle resting grounds, snorkeling, and easy access to to other parts of the island. It was a magical way to end our trip to the Big Island. When we return this is where we will stay again!!

The house and location were unbeatable. Clean and so thoughtfully furnished - everything you would want to feel at home in a rental. Beds and pillows were great, comforters were fresh and new. Kitchen really well stocked. Cool breezes and AC when you needed it. The outdoor spaces were great to hangout in and really expanded the feel of the whole house.
David was a generous host - from the awesome compost bucket, to sharing squash and medicinal plants, to muffin tins! Puako is a rare gem, peaceful, and quiet piece of Hawaii that we are so lucky to have been able to experience. Thank you!

A few minutes walk to the ocean or you can take the bikes to the nearby beach. Although the property is dated, the interior is modern with all the amenities. David was very welcoming and his knowledge of plants is impressive. His garden is a blend of herbs, veg, trees and shrubs. We had a great time.

My friends and I had an amazing stay at this peaceful beach cottage. David was wonderful, gave his the five cent tour, invited us to sample some good from the gardens on the property and even brought us some more from his own garden. Qusif neighborhood away from the resorts, we had everything we needed and would definitely return!

David and Kim’s place is sparkling clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything one might need. The location is amazingly peaceful with wonderful snorkeling a short walk or bike ride away and beautiful sunsets to enjoy. Kim and David are such thoughtful hosts, even providing herbs and squash from their garden! This is our third stay and each time we leave feeling grateful for such beauty and relaxation and making plans to return again!

We had such an amazing stay at this cottage. The minute we walked in we felt like we were home. Very comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. It is such a special place, from the birds singing in the morning to the wonderful snorkeling right down the road. We can't wait to come back!

Just darling, beautiful inside and out. Two lovely lanai’s, very nice bedding and comfortable beds pillows. Stocked with everything for washer dryer. Close to Hapuna beach state park but so many little beaches w lava rock in Puako. But advise sturdy shoes for this island, Five star . Mtn side but you hear ocean and lovely bird song.

The reviews are correct: this is a beautiful property with well-thought-out accommodations and impeccably clean. Friendly host. Location is in a quiet, relaxing area but an easy drive to the resorts if you’re so inclined. Perfect.

Location, location, location. Between Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Resort. Quite, laid back on a dead end road with plenty of shoreline access for turtle pictures.
David is a wonderful host, the house is clean and priced right.
Most of all I enjoyed riding the beach bike in the mornings watching the surfers at the end of the road access and meeting David and his pet pig "The pink pig princess of Puako" on the beach for our evening walks.
Great place!

This place is a gem. Hosts are extremely accommodating yet give you total privacy. Home is stocked completely with bonuses like tons of extra linens, beach towels, beach toys & chairs, bikes, etc. The pictures on the listing don't do it justice, it is way bigger. Heavenly front lanai/garden which we enjoyed our coffee each morning, listening to robust bird population. Large back lanai with BBQ, table, chairs, twinkle lights, clothes line. Outdoor shower and washer/dryer were another great bonus. Large fenced grassy yard on side of house for playing in. Large kitchen fully stocked with everything we needed. I will forever miss waking up in our sweet bedroom listening to the waves, the wind in the tropical plants, the birds, and the seldom rain shower on the roof. The neighborhood is gorgeous, with one sweet street lined with homes and beach access points every few blocks. Beaches were empty and snorkeling is the best we've done on the islands. This area is a bit remote (which we loved!) so I recommend stocking up on food & beverages at the local Foodland at the start of your trip - just so you don't have to leave! I could go on and on.... truly the happiest and most comfortable hawaiian retreat I've ever stayed at. Can't wait to come back!

This beautiful spot ticked all the boxes...from the location (a lovely short stroll to the water, a short drive to services and shops, and peaceful evenings of stargazing), to the amenities (everything we needed was there and easily accessible...yay, bicycles! yay, bbq!), to the wonderfully helpful host. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and will be sure to return one day.

Great place in a nice quiet beachside community. Hosts are great people and they even have a pet pig who u might catch on an evening family walk. Beaches walkable or rideable using the cruiser bikes that hosts provide. Immaculately clean place, kitchen has everything u need including french press, coffee pot for u fellow caffeine junkies. Theres a Vitamix for smoothies, and new fridge, w/d and a/c all which work perfectly. Please treat this place well so they dont decide to stop renting before we return next year !
