About this house rental
"In-the-know" travelers who return to Key West to vacation love to choose the more elegant area of Upper Duval St. as their favorite area to stay... and this is exactly where you find Amelia's Hideaway vacation rental. This one-of-a-kind vacation villa is perfectly situated just off Upper Duval, and because it is all the way at the end of an unknown lane it is well hidden from public view. Unless you've stayed in this villa before, there's no-way you'd ever know it's just steps off Upper Duval Street in one of the prettiest parts of Old Town Key West.
The property itself is authentic Key West and unique all-the-way. Pineapple carvings on the fence gracing this property just hint at the island-living charm you find inside. Art work by famous local Caaribbean folk artist David Wegman perched above the gates welcomes you at the entrance. Enter the large wooden blue-green gate off the little private lane and you step into the beautiful courtyard with a crystal clear swimming pool. A statue of the happy Buddha graces the pool side and further welcomes you to your home in Key West and once inside the courtyard you are treated to even more art work; this time canvas art pieces painted by the late Key West artist Sanford Birdsey are uniquely incorporated into the courtyard walls.
The layout of this vacation villa was re-worked in October 2008 by local designers to maximize comfort and sleeping options that now include four full bedrooms that all open to the private courtyard. The room layout features one spacious great-room with open kitchen / living room and a flat screen HD TV. The great-room opens directly to a covered lanai that has a dining table for 'el fresco' dining.
The best way to visualize the layout of this Amelia's Hideaway is to consider each room as it is situated within the courtyard. The house is built as an 'L-Shaped' villa with each room in the house opening to the courtyard, and then 3/4 of the roof of the villa is an expansive Mexican tiled roof-top deck. We begin our descriptive tour as you pass the rooms once inside the courtyard gates.
Room One: Bedroom #1 (yellow room) is a large room and is set as a full suite offering 2 twin beds that can be put together to make a king size bed and a private full bath divided into two - shower room and powder room with commode and sink. There is also a table conveniently placed for your lap-top. This room also offers a full size sofa that can be made into a queen bed.
Room Two: Bedroom #2 (blue room) has a king size bed. This bedroom connects to a full bathroom with bath tub. The design is decidedly unique and very tropical using tumbled marble in an unusual design.
Room Three: Bedroom #3 (rose room) has a Queen bed and offers a writing desk. While this bedroom connects to the same full bathroom as bedroom #2, the door connecting this bedroom to the courtyard is just steps from the 'pool bath' which can be used as a private bath for the 'rose room'.
Room Four: The great-room (living room / kitchen) is the fourth room down the line of the courtyard. The great-room has a beautiful retro-style blue and white kitchen that is open to the cream colored living room area on the other end of the room that provides a sofa and love seat. This combined living area has a flat screen HD TV. The sofa in this great-room is a queen sleeper sofa if you need another bed in a private sleeping area. The main dining area for this room is found in the covered lanai just out the French doors from the kitchen offering a Caribbean 'el fresco' dining.
Room Five: The 'pool bath' is an artistically tiled full bathroom with a blue and white design created by a local Key West artist. This bathroom has entrances from the lanai as well as the 'great room.'
Room Six: The sixth room (green room) is Bedroom #4 and is considered the master suite for this villa as it is situated 'off to itself' offering the most privacy. This bedroom offers a king size bed and a private full bathroom. The bathroom is tiled in tumbled marble tile of muted tones of golden brown.
Roof Top Deck: The next living space in this unique Key West villa is outdoors and upstairs on the large Mexican tiled roof top deck which expands over 3/4 of the roof. This upper deck is reached by a stair case just outside the master suite. The upper deck offers the perfect spot for private lounging, sunning, star gazing, catching the ocean breeze, or staging a roof top cocktail party or dinner. This deck is furnished with outdoor furniture, built-in side bench seating, and outdoor lighting.
Laundry: Finally, back towards the entrance gate is a separate building which serves as the laundry and utility area.
The general design of this property lends itself perfectly to small gatherings of families and friends and should be considered an ideal spot for a gathering of family or friends.
Bedding Summary:

Great property with awesome location, clean, pool, and plenty of room for sleeping. Will rent again in the future.

Great property. Living room is a little hot but bedrooms stay cool. One of the masters connects to both other rooms so limited privacy in this room. However awesome location, clean, pool was great and we had a blast!

Plenty of beds and bathrooms. Close to all activities using a golf cart. Good dipping pool.
5.0
Plenty of towels and cleaning products during the week. Pool was cleaned daily which is a lovely factor. Lots of room for sleeping. Only suggestions would be to have mini shampoo bottles instead of none and to improve the glassware and plateware for more drinks and food. Will rent again in the future. Thank you again!

House was just right for our three family groups! Location to Duval Street was easy. Parking is indeed a 15 - 20 minute walk but worked just fine. The access to the pool & courtyard from each room also worked out nicely.

The dishwasher did not work.
Bathroom/bedroom door between bedrooms 2 and 3 did not totally close.
Rain leaks in TV room wall behind TV and adjacent closet in 3rd bedroom.
1st bedroom rain leak under door frame.
Weak WiFi.

We had a family vacation that only happens every 2-3 years. It was perfect! The accommodations were great-we each had our own room, plenty of bathrooms/showers. Kids were in the pool as much as they could be. Rooftop area was great for catching a breeze, grilling/dinner. We were within walking distance of catching a boat for an all day adventure on the water and right around the corner from ice cream at night! We’d definitely go back again

Great location. Clean, easy access. Would stay again.

Not a family friendly rental. No privacy between rooms.

The house is set up a little odd with 3 bedrooms connecting- each have a door to the lanai but those aren’t super easy to open. The kitchen living area is a separate room and then there’s a little suite w a bedroom and bathroom to the side of the kitchen- also separate entry. The lanai/ pool area is very nice with a couple tables and nicely shaded. The top roof deck is very nice- though a bit too hot during the day- does get a nice breeze tho. The pool was fairly clean but waaay to hot. Had to be over 100 degrees. Not refreshing at the end of the day at all. More like swimming in a bath tub. And the parking was super inconvenient. About a 20 min walk for me. And 15 dollars a day. I’ve submitted the reimbursement picture but haven’t heard anything back about that. The location is so so. It’s close to the butterfly garden and not too far from southernmost point and Hemingway house. But about 30 min walk to the marina and basically most other activities. It would be nice if they at least had parking for a golf cart to help get around. Overall tho we enjoyed our vacation

Perfect home if you are traveling with a group from 6 or more! Each room had their own bathroom for privacy and convenience. The rooftop grill and layout deck was perfect for escaping back home from a long day at the beach or traveling Duvall street. The pool was the perfect size for day, afternoon or night swimming. PERFECT location right off Duvall so you are close to the activity but not in the center. Breakfast and bars right around the corner and sunrise beach walking distance. Loved this property and its location!

We loved the eclectic style of the house and its location is ideal, within easy walking distance of many popular restaurants and attractions. The house was spotless and communication with the property manager was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Perfect location for walking or getting a Lyft/uber/cab to any place you don't want to walk to. Each couple had their own bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen/den area was great for morning coffee before venturing out for the day, and the pool and upper deck were perfect for afternoon and evening cocktails. The was several of the couples first time in Key West and they all felt the house added to their enjoyment of the trip

Fantastic vacation!
We had 5 couples stay for my 40th birthday and it was by far the best vacation ever! Amelia's hideaway is located in the perfect area off Duval & was perfect for our group size! Pool was so refreshing in morning & after a day of activities! We also enjoyed watching our iguana friends that hung out mostly on the sun deck with us. I personally can't wait to come back next year & we would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Hideaway!
We had a group of 10 adults. Amelia’s Hideaway was clean and located near the Southern Most Point, Beach and Cafe. Easy walk to get on the Conch Train. Perfect location for family and friends. Nice bedrooms and the pull out sofa bed was comfortable. We loved the outdoor patio and swimming pool! Definitely would stay here again!

Great location and pool.
We had a great stay at Amelia’s Hideaway. The layout was great for our group, the pool was a hit for the kids and the location was incredible. The place needs some TLC. There was a shower that had very little water pressure, exposed rusty screws by the warped pool deck where the kids slide in and out, a musty bedroom. All in all it was a wonderful stay and these issues barely took away from it.. I just think the owners need to build in a gap to handle necessary repairs and updates.

Girlfriend get away
We are a group of woman ages 50-70 looking for
a warm place to hang out and enjoy the local atmosphere and cuisine. We lucked out finding Amelias Hideaway. What a lovely little cottage neatly tucked away and still in the center of everything wonderful.
We highly recommend VRBO who directed us to VHKW. They took great care to make sure we had a good time from the second we walked thru the door to our tropical sanctuary until our departure. They have the best concierge service! Thank you Tanyo for the excellent restaurant recommendations and local attractions.
We plan on doing this trip annually.
Thanks!

Perfect place for a girls trip or family vacation
The house is not only beautiful, but clean and centrally located. Relaxing in the heated pool was absolutely perfect after long days of site seeing.
Can’t wait to book our next trip here!

The layout of the property was perfect for our group.
The location was very convenient
The lack of parking was a negative, but we dealt with it.

Win Some, Lose Some
The location of this property was awesome and the pool in the courtyard was perfect. There is NOT parking close to the property. We were not aware of that until after paid in full. Communicating with the host was a chore as they repeat the issue multiple times and do not get clear answers.

Our stay at Amelias hideaway
Great location very spacious however there was some plumping issues in the Jack and Jill bathroom the toilet keep overflowing and the shower had very poor water pressure. Called the rental company and was told that they sent the maintenance person there and they did not see a problem however we had the issue every time we used the toilet which was annoying. But overall the place was equipped with everything you needed this property can use some updating.

. A Vacation with School-aged Kids
Our family of grandparents, adult children, and four grandkids, ages 8, 7, 6, and 4, enjoyed the stay very much. The grandkids were in the pool off and on from early morning to night between activities. The location allowed us to walk to Duval Street, Mallory Square, huge public pool, and ice cream shop.. We also rented bikes to go around the island to a splash playground, coast guard ship, etc. My family wants to return.

Adult couples trip - 50-year olds
This property was fabulous. It is a hidden gem right off of duval. The roof top deck adds a tremendous amount of outdoor living. We spent a ton of time just lounging around the pool in the small private courtyard. When we had one issue (toaster broke) there was a new one brought the next day. A wonderful property in a perfect location. The only 4 star on cleanliness was we were constantly battling the pool filled with dead leaves blowing off the roof - but don't know what owner could do about this....
All good - would absolutely recommend and stay again!

Quaint Tropical Setting
Loved the number of bathrooms (group of 8), the separate sleeping areas, and the entertaining areas. There were a few areas that needed some repair, but overall the villa was ideal for our needs.

Nice adult trip!
Overall our stay was good. Location was excellent. Listed as a 4br/4ba but one bedroom is pretty small with a non working tv. The house is older so its nothing extravagant but we were comfortable. Could use a few upgrades and fixes.

Annual Summer Family Vacation
My family and parents had a great time at the property. The rooftop deck is a great place to have coffee in the morning or bbq in the evening. The house is great for couples. The living/kitchen area is completely separate (must go outside) from the bedrooms, and one of the bedrooms is actually separate from the rest of the house. The pool area was very nice and has a good combination of sun and shade. The location is great. You can walk to multiple restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc within a minute or two. Because the properties in this area are so close together, we did get a lot of noise from the neighboring houses. It wouldn't keep us from staying there again - we'd just bring ear plugs next time!

Great location and pool!
This house was good. The pool was fantastic and the courtyard was great for hanging out. DID NOT LIKE that the “pool guy” with no identification came in when ever he wanted at any time to “check the pool.” He didn’t knock at all. We never saw him touch the pool either. We should’ve been made aware that a guy would come in and leave when he wanted. The house was much smaller than the pictures lead us to believe and very dated. We had to book this house due to the pandemic pushing back our plans and nothing else was available. The beds were comfortable which was nice. Overall, won’t stay at this house again or book with anyone that won’t refund if there is anything related to illness or a pandemic. You will have to die to get out of this booking and get your money back. If you have a large family and do not mind a dated house, you will like this house.

Great place to stay for large group & private
We really had a blast at this vacation home! Very easy to work with. Property was as described and accommodated our large group perfectly! Our grown kids enjoyed the pool, we had plenty of bathrooms available for all of us, plenty of room in general and we were very happy to have a working grill up top on the sundeck. The kitchen had plenty of utensils & dishes. AC worked perfectly, as well, rooms were decorated nicely and nice bedding. House is located at the end of Duval, everything in walking distance so it was easy to come and go. Definitely recommend this vacation home for a large group. Take note though, when they say check out is at 10am, you had better be packed an ready to go because the cleaning crew will show up at 10:05! They were nice, too.
