We spent a week for our honeymoon in this perfect suite.
With a bit of exploring the immediate and nearby towns, we appreciated our home for the week as an oasis, in the best location!

Excellent location. Property manager, Abel, is fantastic. Stayed for 6 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed. Can be a little noisy but it didn’t bother us.

The location is great, close to everything. Can be quite noisy at times, late evening and early morning on some days. Not all. You have to go to Meleque for groceries, quite a walk or taxi. Overall was enjoyable.

This was likely one of the nicest places in Barra. It is spacious, the bed is comfortable, and the location is ideal to the Malecon, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Kane (owner) and Abel (manager) were great guys and really easy to deal with. The place is secure and the AC in the bedroom is adequate. It was fairly private as we were the only ones there for the most part. Cons: there is no safe, there is no guest information about the accommodation or Barra (so we had to ask a lot of questions of Kane/Abel and spent a few days having to find things as this was our first visit to the town), the kitchen is lacking in linens (though Abel would provide if we asked), quality cutlery, and cleaning supplies, there is no laundry service (we used a local lavenderia even for bedding and towels as there is not a washer & dryer in the building), cleaning service (even of the common area we noticed in our 3 week stay) but was provided upon request and there is not a blow dryer. This is noted in the listing but we feel inexpensive additions that would make it 5 star. Our biggest complaint would be the noise...from vehicles, restaurants and bands in the evenings, especially on weekends, as well as from the sports bar across the street. We also had a couple of days without use of the pool because it was being cleaned midday or late afternoon, which was quite disappointing in 30C weather. Decent beach access is not close by and there are not beach chairs available for guest use.

We spent 2 weeks here. The plunge pool was great to try and cool down with. The rooms are great as is the location.

This was not only my first trip to Barra but my introduction to Mexico and it couldn’t have been better. I felt very safe in the neighborhood as a woman traveling alone. The locals are friendly and accommodating. The unit was as pictured. I stayed 2 weeks and would have stayed 2 more if I could. I WILL be back

All was good except for the total lack of cooperation from the on-site janitor.

Super nice, secure and clean facility! Centrally located in the heart of Barra de Navidad!
Two different locked doors for unit B and C for extra security. Unit C was large and spacious with tall ceilings in a brand new building!
Then, the upstairs has the palapa (sitting under shade area) with the pool overlooking the lagoon and mountains. So relaxing for a quick afternoon dip to beat the heat or an evening night to see the lights.
Definitely would stay here again!

Absolutely perfect!
Not only was this better than the picture showed, it was absolutely perfect. My husband and I stayed in the larger unit on the second floor and our friends stayed in the smaller unit. There are only three units in the building and a huge Palapa on the third floor with a plunge pool. Most of the time, we were the only people up there. It was like having our own private home. And the location could not be beat. In the morning we would wake up to the workers across the street at Bob’s treehouse cleaning up four from the night before. They always had the best music playing, and we would sit out on the wrap around balcony, ( we had brought our own chairs) having coffee and watching the neighborhood wake up. We spent cocktail hours on the roof in the plunge pool. You could see the marina from up top. It was walkable to so many great restaurants and sunsets.
Abel was the manager of the property, he was absolutely wonderful. He made sure the place was spotless, that we knew where the water was when we needed to change the water, where to put the trash, all that. Abel helped us with getting cabs, etc. anytime I had a question I just contacted him and he answered immediately.
Our unit was fantastic, nice big open kitchen and living room, my husband and I took naps on that couch, it was so comfortable. I would say they need to upgrade their sheets but other than that, the unit was great. Not a lot of privacy in the bathroom but who cares? We stayed for seven days and nights, totally could see doing a month there.
You know that you had a great stay when your only complaint is that the outside screen door slams hard. They just need to put up some little cushion things so that it won’t slam every time you leave the unit. That’s it, that’s my one complaint LOL. We will absolutely 1000% be back.

Excellent location and property
We very much enjoyed our 12 day stay at Casa Chiva! Unit C was modern and very clean. The splash pool and sitting area under palupa on rooftop was a very pleasant experience. Property manager Abel Rivera was excellent , very competent and easy going. The location of property is superb! You are literally a 5 minute walk away from anywhere you would like to go in Barra! Right across from Bob’s Treehouse bar & restaurant, great food and drinks. Right across the street from a fresh fish market. Around the corner from Besame Mucho(great steaks). El Mangleto just down the street a block (have a molcajete). Location, location, location. Excellent property! Mucho Gracias

Shortest stay Ever
We rented here for almost 6 weeks last year and couldn't wait to return - we were hesitant to go due to the news re Corona virus but decided to try. Got there and our dear friend was there to greet us with that smile of his. He made sure we had all we needed to settle in - in still felt like home away from home so easy for us. Then the news came that we should go home - we were heartbroken but packed back up again after a short 4 nights. They made everything very easy and were so accommodating - both Casa Chiva and VRBO - I am so grateful for their generosity in this crisis. Well, we hope to see you all again as soon as this is all over. Once again, thank you for everything! You are the best!

Wonderful apartment!
We had a lovely stay in Unit C. The apartment was very clean and modern. It was great that drinking water was provided, and the kitchen was equipped with enough items to cook small meals. The rooftop pool is a nice addition. We really enjoyed the neighborhood, and even though it was the start of the "off-season" in Barra, there were plenty of restaurants open. Barra is small enough to walk everywhere, and everyone seemed very friendly. Pretty much in a few-block area around the apartment there are a convenience store, a couple of small "abarrotes" shops, several seafood as well as Mexican-food restaurants either on the beach side or the lagoon side, the water taxis to take you over to Colimilla where there are more restaurants, a pharmacy, "gift" vendors, etc. We loved the little upstairs bar just around the corner that had some live music and the fabulous "German" restaurant at the other end of town, where you'll find many other stores and vendors and restaurants.
My only suggestion for the apartment would be to offer a shared washer and dryer. Currently, there is an empty room downstairs, where I read they were going to put in a little store. For stays longer than a couple of weeks, it would be great if they had a little stackable washer-dryer that the guests could use...or, it could possibly be installed on the rooftop patio where the pool is.
The neighborhood had a LOT of very loud traffic noise, as the apartments are on a main intersection where vehicles turn around from the one-way street coming from town to go back through town on the one-way street leaving town. Personally, I've never minded the "regular" noise in a Mexican town (fireworks, roosters, dogs, fiestas, music, etc.), but the really loud traffic noise was kind of annoying. But, we didn't let it spoil our stay. We fell in love with Barra, and I was glad we found such a nice apartment for our first stay. Thanks Abel and Cain!

Calla Sonora Apartment, Barra De Navidad
The location is very central which makes it easy to walk to great restaurants and live music. The rooftop plunge pool has a nice view of the lagoon and was great for cooling off. The manager was friendly and available by phone. On the down side we expected much more for what we were paying. First of all the manager did not meet us to let us in on our arrival because he thought we were arriving the next day on Jan 14, their mistake. It took most of the day to contact him before we were allowed in later that evening. No apology was given. This is after an overnight flight. There were no curtains on the windows in the living room. When I questioned him about this, he said we were at the end of the second floor and so they were unnecessary. However, when the street door was left unlocked by workers or others in the apartments, we had people walking by and looking in at us. We complained and the manager said they’d put curtains up but it never happened. The towels for the pool were very used and old, although other linens were new. The sheets were not the deep pocket type and didn’t fit the mattress properly. Also, there was no bathroom door or curtain of any type. I asked about this and he said to just close the bedroom door. The place was very dusty and no cleaning was included so we had to ask for a broom and dustpan. The outside corridors, rooftop palapa and pool were only cleaned infrequently. They state that paper towels, toilet paper, etc are provided, but only until they run out, then you purchase your own. A larger coffee pot (they provide a one mug pot) and microwave would have been appreciated.
There’s a fish market right across the street and on many days we had to close the windows because of the smell. It was also quite noisy until about midnight most nights because it’s in a busy area. There will soon be a small grocery store in the building.
If we had not been paying so much, the above would have been acceptable. We booked a much nicer, larger place for next year a half a block from the ocean, with its own backyard and private plunge pool. It includes weekly cleaning, free water, and free bicycle usage for less than half the cost. I would say this place is okay for a week, maybe two but not for a longer stay.
