The crescent of the shoreline is fully protected by a living coral reef and gentle tide, which makes the azure, warm water safe for swimming. Our Villa can accommodate up to three couples in three bedrooms with three full baths. When you rent my house you are the only people using it.
Our beautiful three bedroom villa is right on the ocean. You can't get any closer. Our villa is a modern, Spanish style casa located on the beach and ocean. A delight in paradise.
Everything was clean and beautiful. The house was decorated in a very authentic Dominican way. The kitchen was sparkling clean and very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. The house is right near a beautiful secluded beach. The yard has a very comfortable chairs as does the back deck. We had everything we needed right at our fingertips.

Relaxation by the sea.
My family of 6 persons rented casaambarina for 2 weeks. This was our first time renting a house and vacationing in the Dominican Republic and we were a little apprehensive. The owner, Allen, immediately reduced our anxiety. From our first contact with him he answered all our questions and helped to make the initial arrival a pleasant experience. He arranged for transportation from the airport to his house by his manager Isidro. Isidro helped us to settle in and was available every day to make sure everything was going well. The house is very well furnished and our family of 6 were very comfortable. The views of the ocean are fantastic and waking up hearing the ocean waves roll in is exactly why we wanted with an ocean front rental. We had breakfast and often lunch on the back porch which faces the ocean. The ocean breezes allowed us to be very comfortable we rarely needed the AC.
Maria-elena cleaned the house thoroughly twice a week and washed the towels and bedding as needed. We even had her cook us a wonderful Dominican dinner. Isidro the manager would come by every day and say Hola and smile and made sure that we were comfortable.
Costambar is an interesting seaside community. We were looking for a relaxing vacation without the crowds and tourists and that is exactly what we had. There are no hotels but rather condos and houses to rent. We walked the entire community especially the beach which is very long and very pretty. Costambar is not fancy but has all the amenities of a resort including tennis courts, a small country club with a restaurant, swimming pool wellness center and gym. There are many small local restaurants within walking distance from the house many of them right on the beach and very inexpensive. We also followed Allen’s recommendations and eat at several of the restaurants nearby. They were excellent.
We were very pleased and would recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for a relaxed, low keyed Caribbean vacation without spending exorbitant amounts of money.

Costambar Villa
This is not my first time staying at this Villa. I decided to come back for a relaxing beach vacation. I stayed close to home this time, which is easy to do. Again, everything you need is in the community. I did venture out to the Teleferico which was really fun. The cable car goes pretty high and was a bit scary, but the view from the top of the mountain is an almost 360 view. The gardens up there are very pretty. I took a taxi there from the Costambar taxi stand. He picked me up at the Villa and came back to get me at the Teleferico at our agreed upon time and drove me home. I payed at the return trip.
Locally, I would recommend the Catamaran Restaurant on the beach. It is at the end of the beach road. And for a change of beach pace lounging at the pool at the Los Mangos Golf club was great. I also indulged in a massage at the spa there, which was also very relaxing.

Extremely satisfied repeat customer!!
This is my second stay at this lovely property; I enjoyed it so much last year that I jumped on the opportunity to come back…it didn't disappoint!!
There are no major changes to speak of; the ocean is still beautiful and just beyond the backyard...literally. You're a few minutes' walk to a beautiful, laid back (expansive) beach where $2 (US) buys you a cushioned lounge chair (and side table) for the day. You'll be among locals, ex-pats and tourists alike. The house has the same comforts I remembered: sun-filled yard with numerous lounge chairs, fabulous ocean breeze, covered patio, TV, (free) wifi, microwave, full-size refrigerator, A/C, plenty of hot water and a driveway among other things.
There are many restaurants ON THE BEACH and within walking distance of the house. Enjoying a pina colada and lunch/dinner with the waves rolling in nearby was as surreal and enjoyable the last day of my visit as the first.
Isidro stopped by daily to assure that I was enjoying my stay; housekeeping is provided twice/wk. Clean linens and towels (for beach and bath) are provided.
This community is very residential. Like any other community there are some vacant structures among the lovely homes and beautiful views. You won't find any Hiltons, Marriotts or other recognizable hotels in the area and if you're like me, you'll love seeing roosters, chickens and horses nicely cared for on local properties (but some people may not). For me, that continues to be one of Costambar's many appealing qualities. It is a quiet neighborhood and, like last year, I felt very safe walking around including after sundown. Note that you may wish to leave the local area if you’re looking to do more than play golf or lie on the beach. Easy to do if you rent a car or taxi (the taxi stand is in the community) which, like most everything in the Dominican Republic, is very inexpensive.
Allen, the homeowner, is (still) a pleasure to work with; he responds quickly, offers a fair rate and is eager to offer suggestions for dining and entertainment. Please see my previous review (2015) for additional info.
Buena suerte!!

Best Ocean Breezes
When we booked a trip to the caribbean for June we hadn't thought of the heat. This was a non issue for this great home. The cross breeze going through the home was the best. We were never hot. All the bedrooms have air conditioning and each works really well. The house itself is very spacious and fully equipt with linens, towels, all kitchen items you could need and they have even thought to keep sunblock and bug spray in the house in case you forget. We made plans ahead of time for transportation from the Puerto Plata airport. The driver was recommended to us from Allen and he couldn't have been nicer. Although he is not an official tour guide he knows everyone and everything in tihs part of the DR. We did rent a car for the later part of the trip. I only recommend renting a car after you have been out a few times and got the lay of the land and definitely get the GPS. Jennys is the market in Costambar which will get you the basics. La Sirena is a walmart like store which has the most options. We discovered the store once we had the rent a car and will be making this our first stop during our next visit.
Every day we took a morning walk around the neighborhood. It is beautiful. First we walked along the beach and then weaved in and out of all the streets to admire the architecture and landscapes of the homes. We also saw roosters and horses on all our walks. We had breakfast at home and then ventured out for lunch and dinner. We went to some of the restaurants Allen recommended and they were all great. A few nights we stayed in costambar and enjoyed the local restaurants. Out of Costambar Tres Cocos was by far my favorite and for authentic dominican food go to the mofungo king in sosua on the beach. You won't be disappointed.
Last but not least is Isidro the property manager. Isidro came by every day to check on us and make sure everything was going smoothly. He is such a kind man and since we have never had a vacation like this where we rented a home for the week, he made us feel comfortable and at home.
For those who like to keep their options open this charming vacation renatal is a great choice if you like to be on tyour own schedule

Relaxing beach stay
Last month I returned from a 5 day vacation and stayed at this very roomy, colorful, beach side villa. For the short time you don't even need to leave Costambar. The beach is a quick walk and there are many restaurants and mini markets to get whatever you need within walking distance. Even a pharmacy. There is a golf club with pool and spa if you feel the need to take a break from the beach.
We did want to explore another beach experience so we had the house manager organize a car service for us to Caberete. He was very nice (also happened to be the manager's friend) and he dropped us off and picked us up when we wanted to leave. He also took us to the airport.
I would recommend this rental for a casual family vacation as well. The kitchen is big and great for people who may not want to eat out all of the time. There is also a mini backyard with grass and lounge chairs if you're too lazy to make it to the beach!

A relaxing ocean-front paradise
I recently returned from a week-long paradise at Allen’s ocean-front home. It was beautiful. It is a very spacious house with all of the comforts of home including but not limited to: large bedrooms (2 that look out to the ocean), satellite TV, complimentary WIFI, telephone, roomy kitchen, and air conditioning. Every day started as you’d expect in a tropical paradise: morning coffee on the back patio while enjoying ocean breezes and taking in the view. THAT VIEW!!
Isidro will stop by daily to assure you're enjoying your stay at the house; he couldn’t be nicer. As a further indulgence, Maria-Elena will come by twice (per 1 week visit) to thoroughly clean the house. These services come at no extra cost, but tipping is appreciated (Allen was happy to offer us guidance as to how much we should give). There are plenty of clean linens and towels, the latter which come in handy after enjoying a hot shower in one of the 4 full bathrooms.
With an abundance of restaurants nearby, there is no need to leave the local area. It was lovely to spend days on end walking around the neighborhood and enjoying the local hospitality, not to mention the beaches which are only a minute’s walk from your front door. Having a rental car did come in handy, however, as there is plenty to explore outside of Costambar. The house has a driveway that can easily accommodate two vehicles.
Regardless of the time of day, I always felt safe and found the local residents to be pleasant and likeable. Knowing some Spanish proved helpful though is not required.
This was my first trip to the Dominican Republic and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this home to family and friends. Thanks to my wonderful experience, I'm already looking forward to returning!!

Clean, Quiet Getaway
The villa was spacious, comfortable, and right on the beach. We really enjoyed staying here. Isidro the property manager arranged to our transfer from Santiago airport, then met us and made sure we were settled. He was helpful and available if we had any questions. Marie Elena the housekeeper did a great job and came twice during the week.
The owner did warn us that Costambar is a quiet neighborhood, which made it very nice for sleeping. Most of the people we saw and met are retired. It is a bit remote for activities, but we made what I felt to be fair arrangements with the local taxi stand drivers to go into Puerto Plata and Sosua.
The water was great, the beach just a few minutes from the house very inviting. We swam and snorkeled here every day.

Relaxing Getaway
We were very pleased with our experience. This is a very nice, quiet rental in the Costambar community near Puerto Plata. Our family stayed here over a week and really enjoyed it. Highlights of the rental include: fully equipped kitchen, bug screens on the windows, power inverter, water pump (good water pressure), continual water supply, hot water heater, air conditioning unit (master bedroom/bathroom only), 4 bedrooms & 4 bathrooms, peaceful location within easy walking distance to the beach. We tried two of the restaurants the owner recommended and enjoyed them both (Sole Mio and El Carey). This rental also has a parking space for two vehicles. The house was very clean and had a nice supply of both shower towels and beach towels. The master bed was very comfortable. This rental was just as described. Would stay here again if we return to the area.

Surreal getaway
We had a extremely relaxing and memorable holiday at the villa. The house is lovely. The master bedroom overlooks a beautiful view of the ocean. We have a four year old and a two year old who loved spending the day at the beach, which is just a two minute walk away. We found Costumbar, where the villa is housed, offers a very local scene with shacks selling fresh, inexpensive seafood on a quiet, tranquil beach with hardly any tourists. Allen was very helpful, home proud and that attitude was reflected by his staff on site. Would recommend and have done so already.

Our excellent Dominican Vacation
Our family just spent a wonderful and relaxing week at the Villa. What's not to like? The house is roomy (4 bedrooms), spotlessly clean, well maintained, decorated beautifully in warm tropical colors and with authentic Dominican artwork, and best of all it sits right on the ocean in a gated community an easy drive from the Puerto Plata airport. The ocean view from the very private backyard is fantastic. A two minute walk brings you to a drop dead gorgeous crescent-shaped beach with calm shallow waters. Any number of exceptional restaurants are a short drive away. Heartily recommend!

Sweet place to stay
This was a wonderful, relaxing and secure place to stay. We liked it very much! We would rent again and usually we don't say that!
It is as nice or better then the pictures. The place was very clean and kept up and the manager( a Dominican named Isidro) is sweet, watchful and immediately helpful. He met us there within 5 min. when we got there or would call with a question or prob. He even hooked us up with a friend who has a car rental place nearby. Recommendations are everything when you are in a foreign country! Allen the owner spent time explaining everything before we went and had recommendations too!
He has been great to deal with! The home is very spacious and the master BR and one downstairs have a direct view of the ocean and the sound of ocean lapping up on the shore made sleeping a dream!!! Loved that feature alot! Being outdoors was wonderful, the backyard is well kempt and the foliage is lovely!! It is so close to the ocean! It is so relaxing and beautiful! The one and only downside is that the beach was not clean along that area. It is a bit of a cove and lots of seaweed comes up, and Dominicans had left quite abit of trash scattered. But there is a clean beach right around the corner where you can snorkel and swim; about 200 yards away. You cannot see it from the yard because of the foliage and small retaining wall. the area is safe and people are very friendly and nice.It is a real look at the DR life with the comforts of american life!

VERY TRANQUIL
I won't be redundant with my review as the others have stated ,This property is a great location and very quiet.
The manager and maid both attentive and quick.
I only rent places after doing exhaustive homework on rental sites ,and stay only at nice places .
This rental has it all.
I have been to DR before so some of the sites Allen mentioned I have seenb before, but I took his advice on the Italian and beach restaurant and both were spot on .
Good food ,good prices .
The only thing that may make you frown is something Allen doesn't control ,and that is the litter problem on the small patch of beach behind his house.
DR people seem not to notice the numerous items thrown so carelessly on their nice beach ,but like i said this is not a problem Allen can control.
Just prepare yourself for it ,yet Allen does give you a trail to the beach, where the vendors ,rake and clean the beach a short walk from his place.
So come and enjoy this spacious comfortable house ,where the view will take your breath away ,
I awoke one morning and looked out the masters bedroom window and there was a large barge making it's way to port with the sun coming up behind it , a great photo shot and this view is repeated everyday
Thanks for sharing Allen

more attractive in person
The house is not deluxe lodgings but taken for what it is (a beach house in a laid-back, low infrastructure-setting) it is very nice. The house and grounds are even more attractive than the pictures show. Everyone we talked to in Costambar remarked on the daily power outages. We never realized we were having power outages due to the good back-up system at the house. We never needed the air-conditioning as the breezes off the ocean kept the bedrooms cool and there is an abundance of fans. Costambar felt very safe and everyone was friendly. We had originally rented a car but at Allen's recommendation opted for a shuttle from the Santo Domingo airport where we arrived. We were glad we did as the traffic was a bit overwhelming and the roads, while in good condition, are not well-marked. After we arrived, we decided not to rent a car after all as it really wasn't needed. Taxi service is cheap and abundant and Yenny's market is a very easy walk as are several (mostly Italian) restaurants. Taxi from the La Sirena (kind of like a super-Walmart) in P.P. was 30 pesos (<$8). Anyway, back to the house--Allen was very helpful in his recommendations and Isidro, the manager was always available and pleasant to deal with. The house is very clean and well-maintained. I would rent this again if I return to the area. Activities I recommend: Damajagua Falls and the half-day mountain bike tour offered by IguanaMama. Diving is so-so--good visibility, not a lot of fish, coral in fair condition (in all fairness, we only did beginner sites as we had our 2 teens with us) but we really liked the people at Diwa Dominicana.

A World Traveler's Opinion - Excellent
I travel a lot for work; in 30 years I’ve stayed in everything you can imagine; Four Seasons in Italy, Maui resorts, villas in the Caribbean, hammocks in Mexico. This was perfect to make our vacation whatever we wanted.
The 1 review about the rundown community was misleading. This is the DR, not Florida. Please, if that’s what you expect, go there and don’t give Americans more of a bad reputation than we already have. Yes, you'll see some vacant buildings, quaint restaurants and beautiful homes. The DR is a developing country, and if you want to be a good citizen of our World, show some respect for that. There are poor areas (I didn’t really see that), but I’ve seen much, much worse in Mexico, Dominica, St. Thomas, and Barbados. It’s just… different.
The owner was excellent, the house is nicer than the pics. "Beachfront" means 1 step from the backyard to the beach; quiet, not deserted. 2 min. walk to slightly more populated beach; little restaurants, thatched-roof palapas, great swimming. Great for kids, swim in the easily identified white-sand areas (bring a mask/snorkel and you’ll easily identify where coral and sea urchins are further out).
The gated community is safe, several English-speaking restaurants/shops. You could spend your entire time without leaving, but if that’s your plan… go to Florida, please.
We explored every day. If you haven’t traveled much outside your country, but want to experience something idyllic, slightly exotic, and relatively quiet, this may be a good place to start. Just use your head and do some research. And if you have traveled, enjoy. A big smile and “Hola” goes a long way. A little Spanish helps tremendously. Mine was rusty, but when seeking directions in Puerto Plata, a shop owner walked us two blocks to the store I was looking for, and left me with a warm smile and a handshake. When was the last time that happened to you in the States?

Awesome View
We enjoyed our 10 day vacation in Costambar. The house is quite large and has a gorgeous view. Two of the bedrooms face east so you can watch the sunrise from your bedroom window! The house is very secure, neighbors friendly and helpful, the manager and house staff is very attentive. Inside the community there are several restaurants, small market, golf course, spa, and beautiful beach. You wouldn't need to venture outside of the community if he didn't want to. If you do, however, Puerto Plata is a busy little community filled with small time entrepreneurs. Your adventures can consist of lots of day trips that will provide you with history (Columbus’ first settlement) and social activities (casino and dancing). Note: brush up on your Spanish or download a translation app to make communication easier during your stay.

Quaint, relaxing with ocean breezes and privacy
As described with excellent owner communication. Greeted by local property manager who checked in several times during the week. Cleaning service twice during week kept things clean with fresh towels. Easy to get around the small town/village by foot. Taxis readily available for further day trips. Local market with delivery. Good restaurants within walking. Comfortable home for four looking for R&R. Great that you were on the beach for breezes, easy access to public beach. Would recommend for couples...may need a car with teenagers to go to places. Family oriented beach would be fine for children.

Dominican Gem on the Ocean
We were a little unsure about renting outside an all-inclusive. But we wanted to find a place that wasn't touristy. The owner gave us a lot of information about Costambar, and what the neighborhood had to offer. He had the house manager meet us when we arrived. That put us at ease right away. The house itself was beautiful, brightly painted, right on the water. It looked just like the pictures, was very comfortable and the ocean views were great. The swimming and sun bathing beach was just a short walk from the house, and we rented lounge chairs for a couple dollars a day. The ocean is gentle and the beach was ideal for our kids. There's a small but well stocked local super market called Jenny's, so we packed lunches a few days. But the restaurants on the beach were good, and we ended up eating at them quite a few times. The golf club that visitors have access to, Los Mangos, was a little touch of luxury when we wanted to sit around the pool for a change of pace. The house was wonderful, the beach was easy-going, and it was just how we wanted to spend our vacation.

Costambar Beach House
A well-kept house in one of the few DR resorts not taken over by all-inclusive resorts. The rental was easy to arrange and the owner's agent and cleaning staff did just what was needed. Would recommend it to anyone who wants an independent holiday in by the sea and in easy reach of Puerto Plata.

Canaan Fireman
Our group consisted of 2 adult couples. Our vacation in Costambar was perfect, very relaxing. The Villa we stayed in was everything it was said to be, great location, very clean and plenty of room. Costambar has lots of good, inexpensive restaurants within walking distance and on the beach. The main supermarket has what you need if you choose to cook at home, which we did on a few nights. The people of Dominican Republic are very friendly. The manager and the maid service that we had were very thorough and kept things up to par. Although we spent most of our time on the beautiful beach, a nice amenity was the ability to use the pool the gym and the golf course at the Los Mangos Country club which is about a 15 minute walk from the house. This was a great vacation spot and not only would I recommend this to my family and friends but I will be back. Thanks for everything.
