Pet friendly house and beach...
There are two bedrooms and one bath on the second level next to the kitchen and dining room. Then there are two bedrooms and one bath on the top floor next to the great room. The fourth floor is a loft with a futon and 2 twin beds.
Large 16x34 foot SWIMMING POOL, close proximity to the beach, (our own private path see the PHOTOS), the killer hot tub with ocean views, and the Dairy Queen for after dinner ice cream just a bike ride or skateboard or stroll up the street. It is a comfortable Oceanfront house with nothing between you and the ocean except sand. The pool area is spacious and well lit at night for grilling and swimming after dark.
4 bedrooms ( plus 'pool room', which really is a 5th bedroom) and 3 baths with an outdoor shower.
The water is clean and green and the ocean is fabulous right in front of the house. The owner's profile picture is of me and my surfboard and dog on the beach right in front of the house. National Seashore
This location is in Waves, NC, about a mile south of the Rodanthe pier on Hatteras Island The house borders directly on the beach. It is only a short walk over magnificent dunes to the water's edge.
YOU CAN'T GET ANY CLOSER TO THE BEACH THAN THIS HOUSE, IT IS OCEANFRONT.(We are always getting questions, 'is it on the ocean?' Yes!!)
There is also a screened-in porch off the kitchen that looks out over the pool, a south facing third floor sundeck with a hot tub and epic views of the Atlantic, and a fireplace on the third floor for the cooler spring and fall nights.
On the ground floor off the pool deck, the pool room has its own bath, a single bed, TV and a sleeper sofa. During the day this room is a play room and an exercise area with free weights and at night this can serve as a fifth bedroom, with its own bathroom and a nice view of the pool.
The house features pillowtop mattresses and feather pillows so we can listen to the sound of the ocean from comfortable beds. With the four bedrooms and the pool room serving as a bedroom, the house can sleep12 in beds.
There are excellent views of the ocean from just about anywhere on the second and third floors and loft, from inside or out on the decks. You can see the ocean while lounging in the 3rd floor deck hot tub. On the second level there is a large dining area and fully stocked kitchen, with views of the pool and ocean from inside or from the deck or screened in porch.
The high cathedral ceiling on the third floor and large trapezoid windows combine to give a feeling of space to the top floor like a ski chalet. Beautiful tongue and groove cedar. There is a loft.

Fantastic beachfront property with great ocean views, spacious rooms, clean pool, and comfortable beds.

Good location for the beach with a wonderful pool. However, the house and especially the bedrooms were too small for a family of eight not to mention only two bathrooms. Also, no master bedroom with a private bath.

The location of this house makes it easy to go back and forth to the beach. We had a lot of rain showers pop up throughout the week and being so close made it easy to run back to the house as needed. The pool was amazing, probably the best pool we’ve had in a rental property. The kids had a blast.

The house was what 2 families (one w a toddler), a family friend, and a big dog could escape for a week! The host was responsive and thoughtful. House had a great assortment of pots, pans, and dishware. The pool was a great escape for those who couldn’t make it over the dune. Plenty of seating on the deck with the built-in seats and additional chairs. The view was spectacular. We actually enjoyed being in a space that was someone’s retreat - a few family photos and framed cross stitch on the walls that you could imagine someone did while they sat there in that living room. Lots of family memories made in that well-loved house and on that beach!

we really enjoyed our vacation the pool was awesome and everything was as listed

The home was in a perfect location in the Rodanthe/Waves community. Great ocean views from the hot tub on the deck was our family’s favorite spot. The pool was clean and comfortable also.
The house itself was spacious and had everything we needed.

Very relaxing stay. Loved the home, beach, waves, and loved being able to bring our 5# dog.
Had an issue with hot tub on first night and immediately the Host sent someone to assist-thats great hosting. Was very quiet during our time here over Thanksgiving. Just what was needed 😀

We enjoyed the property very much. The location was great for us and the space was nice and very comfortable. The sofas and beds are very comfortable. Loved the fact we could bring our dog. It was clean but it could use a good dusting and the upstairs shower was clogged when we got there, so if someone cleaned the tub, wouldn't they have known it was clogged??? We bought drain cleaner and unclogged it. Also, just a note for the homeowner, the hot tub has a leak that is dripping down onto the 1st level deck- I notified the pool/hotub maintenance people.

We loved this home! Our two adult sons flew in for a long weekend to spend time with ole' mom and dad. We ate out; we made good food; we watched meteors from the top deck at night; slept like babies; visited historical sites; played on the beach with the pups; watched college football when it rained one afternoon; played competitive matches of UNO....It was perfect. We thank you so very much for allowing us to stay in your home!!!!!

Our stay was hastily planned and we felt very fortunate to be able to book it. The home is spacious and comfortable, has a well appointed kitchen, lots of outdoor space, a great pool and jacuzzi and fit our needs perfectly. George was very responsive to our questions and we enjoyed browsing through the photos and articles about the family. Thanks George!

The property was perfect for our family. My BIL enjoyed having his own space by the pool. The bedrooms were large enough for everyone. And our pre-teen girls loved the loft area as their own space. We enjoyed coffee on the upper balcony watching the sunrise and grilling by the pool in the evening. There were a couple minor things that needed maintaining (that did not impede our stay) but George was quick to respond those items would be fixed. We hope to stay again at this property

Got a lot of use out of the hot tub. The weather was terrible, not owners fault, we got a lot of use out of the hot tub. The kitchen was well stocked and clean.
The grill was in good shape and lit easily. Nice place. Went to the seafood place in Salvo several times
Nice place

Place was wonderful. Centrally located, so we were able to hit northern outer banks and southern outerbanks. Hot tub was great with view of ocean. Quick 3 minute walk over dunes to ocean. We will be back!

The house is directly on the beach! The house was neat and clean with a nice living room and workable kitchen. We were a continually cooking full meals with no issues.
This is a typical beach house. The bathrooms are slightly dated but acceptable.
The living room has new couches but the carpet is nearing replacement.. but this is easily overlooked when looking out on the sea from the expansive windows and wrap around decks. Morning coffee and beautiful sunrise is outstanding.
The location is perfect for a family holiday...

We absolutely loved our stay Labor Day week. It was so nice to stay in a beach house that felt like a home. The personal touches, from family photos to the many cross stitch works inspired by the OBX, to the soft sheets and towels provided made a huge difference compared to the corporate owned properties we have stayed at in the past.
The point of this week was to relax and enjoy each other's company and George's place was the perfect location. We will be back!

We had a wonderful week enjoying the pool, hot tub, ocean breezes from the deck and the short walk to the beach. The kitchen had every utensil/ pots and pans we needed and we loved all the deck space. George was quick to respond to any questions we had. There was plenty of space for our family of six and our dog.

This property has a lot going for it in terms of location and a responsive owner. Direct ocean access, which is a little difficult given the walk through the sand and over the dunes, which is awesome. You can see the ocean from the third level of the house. The house is quite dated and in need of minor repairs and updates. Minor annoyances such as slow running drains were dealt with by visiting the handy Dollar General store close by and getting some Drano. Beds were pretty comfortable and the living area on the third floor was really nice. George is a great host who responds quickly to requests - much appreciated.

Nice low key neighborhood, but still had all the shops and grocery places you will need.
This home is right on the beach! The sand dune that you must cross to get to the beach was a bit steeper than we expected, but NOT a vacation downer.

Lovely home
Communication was great with the owner, home is beautiful and right on the ocean as advertised. Only issues were the cleanliness of the home (ceiling fans and central air return grate over the air filter were extremely dirty- pool area had pet feces and urine smell in the vegetation where I assume previous renters didn't clean up). Family arrived at 5 but were not allowed in the home until 520 as the housekeepers were still there so check in was frustrating. Did not notify the property owner of any of the problems as they weren't major. Home is otherwise lovely and comfortable, hot tub views are amazing, pool was great fun.

Large House...Needs Some Work
We had a nice stay at Gone with the Wind. Beautiful weather and a really nice beach just a short walk over the dune (It is a very steep dune so may be challenging for limited mobility guests). The house does need some work... nothing major. There are upgrades to appliances in the kitchen which made preparing meals and cooking nice. I did contact Mr. Yates concerning the refrigerator not cooling after we arrived. He did answer my call, however he seemed defensive about my issue and more interested in defending the age and model of the refrigerator. He was correct that the fridge was taking longer to cool down after we put warm drinks in it when arriving-we have had this issue before in houses we have stayed in at the beach-I guess I just needed some reassurance that there had not been any prior issues before I went out and spent a lot of money on groceries. He made me feel guilty and pretty crappy for even bothering him. I accept my part in jumping the gun and disturbing him but he didn't have to make me feel like an idiot for calling him.
The landscaping is nice but needs some trimming, especially around the pool area. The privacy it provides is welcome with the other houses so close. The outdoor lights on the second level where we entered the house were out or we couldn't figure out how to turn them on... and we did try to locate a switch multiple times. I did not contact Mr. Yates again after our first conversation... just didn't feel comfortable doing that.
The beds were not super comfortable for any of us. My husband and I are in our 50's so we might be expected to have some back/leg issues but my 28 year old son who is in excellent health and condition had trouble finding a bed to sleep comfortably in as well.
There are nice views of the ocean from the top deck. However, there was only one high chair that you could sit in up there that allowed you to see the ocean. The other 2 low Adirondack chairs were comfy but the railing was in your line of sight when sitting in them. So we didn't hang out up there much.
This is a nice property and the location is excellent! I really liked the area (we usually stay in the Nags Head area). It just needs a few tweaks to be even better. I have tried to be honest about the pros and cons of this property and not let my brief negative interaction with Mr. Yates cloud my review. However, I do think it's important that future renters are aware of how the owner might react if an issue arises.

Great Place
We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay. Pool was great, access to the beach couldn’t be better. Just like any other beachfront home on the Outer Banks there were lots of stairs so be prepared. Overall a great family / friends vacation!

Chill secluded beach home
This is the fifth time we have stayed at Gone With The Wind, so that ought to tell you something! It's such a great location, secluded, crazy close to the ocean, and just a chill home. Love the addition of the new flooring, appliances, and dishware. The extra bag of toilet paper, soap, paper towels, was such a great help. We hardly had to use any of the same items that we brought with us. Thank you George, for sharing your home.
Now-as for the guests who stayed the week before us, they should be ashamed. When we arrived, we did a quick walk through as we always do, and we were greeted by chunks and chunks of vomit all over the hot tub cover, ON the hot tub, on the walls and deck right next to the hot tub, on two chairs near the hot tub, a table near the pool, AND bits and pieces inside the house, like vomit confetti. I cannot believe we had to clean up someone else's vomit. They disrespected George's home and the disrespected the hell out of us by leaving that disgusting unhealthy hot mess. I hope your ride home was as enjoyable as it appears it was after all of that vomit. Whoever stays there next, beware the tall vomit chair I moved to the opposite end of the hot tub. I just couldn't stand cleaning up any more vomit on MY DAMN VACATION.

Family gathering
The location and ocean view was excellent. We enjoyed sitting on the upper deck to watch the sunrise and saw dolphins swim by a few times.
Kid and dog friendly.
Being there late September it was nice to have the pool and hot tub available.

Wonderful week of relaxation
This property was exactly as advertised. Beach location with a pool and hot tub. We enjoyed our time at Gone with the Wind very much. It was completely relaxing - just the break we needed.

Location location location
You cannot beat the location - short walk out the back gate up and over the dune and you are on the beautiful beach. The outside pool is lovely, and there is a gleaming new grill. The fridge and the counters mentioned in the owner's write-up are nice. We loved being able to see the ocean and get a wave report from that second deck vantage point.
We did have a few issues, though.
1) There is one exposed outside shower on the pool deck. That one worked fine. There is another enclosed outside shower in the driveway, but a baby drools more liquid than that shower head. We reported this as soon as we got to the property, and although the owner said he would try to get someone on it, we never heard from him again. This was disappointing: several of us really enjoy that outdoor shower experience and consider it a big part of the beach experience...and you gotta be able to get nekkid!!
2) Insufficient linens were provided. I *think* it worked out to 1/2 the necessary number of pillow cases. So: each bed had two pillows and only one pillow had a pillow case. Heads up next dude: that uncovered pillow was between my legs!
3) The sleeping area off the pool deck (the "5th bedroom") is dank. And not in the good way that the kids use that term these days - I mean "dank" in the way us old folks use the word: musty/moldy/humid. We had one person who braved the spores to sleep in that room; no one else would bite. Don't look too closely at the window unit air conditioner in that room. At a minimum, if there were a screen for the sliding door, it would have been helpful to get some outside air in there. Alas...no screen.
4) A beach house owner's work is never done...and it's time to do another round of banging in exposed nail heads on all the decking. And a couple of stairs on the flight going down to the pool are wobbly - made me nervous for the old folks in our group.
5) Maybe the hot tub has been there for years, up on that unreinforced top deck...but my gut clenched a bit every time someone got in. However, I'm not a structural engineer, so what do I know? It's probably all done to code...
6) Bring a knife sharpener (or perhaps owner could provide one - we couldn't find it if it's there).
In the end, we had a great week, thanks primarily to the fantastic location and easy access to the beach. I think that if the outside shower had been working, we would not have zeroed in on some of the other flaws, but that was a big demerit for a few of us.
Thanks.

Quiet Spot on the Hatteras Seashore
Great location for 8 adults and 2 dogs. Amazing views from throughout the house. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of your cooking needs. Plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing. The private beach access was a plus although the dune is steep.

Location, location, pool
Same title as last time we stayed here and it's still the best features of this property. It's on the beach with a private path over the dune. The pool is larger than most and we spent a good deal of our time there. It is located about half way between Nags Head and Hatteras which we thought convenient. We appreciated the updates that George made to to the house and are anxious to see what else he will do if we are able to return in 2023.

Not worth the money
The house has potential but has definitely been neglected. It is in desperate need of a deep clean. There were layers of dirt on the upper walls of the bedroom, the air filter was so full we had to throw it out, and there is mildew in the bath tub and black mold in the wall under cabinet in bathroom! I took pictures but not sure if I can post here. The other issue is that the lights in the entire house flicker constantly. There is either an electrical issue or power source issue. We contacted the owner twice about this with no response. The kitchen has been updated but the rest of the home needs attention. Definitely not what you would expect for the money.

Stay somewhere else for the $
No cable or internet when we arrived !!!! Called and called owner real IDIOT. SO on Sunday my mother in law gets on the phone and says hey buddy we have no TV here. Spent my Monday waiting on Spectrum. Tech comes 10am the box got hit by lightning like 2 years ago. Lol so I hated it from that point on. And hot tub on top floor no access but thru house. So on Wednesday and Saturday your gonna hear nagging others door around 930 10 am. Like I said owner is an IDIOT
