About this house rental
We, your hosts, are a married couple; Margarita is a business owner, Bob is a physician. Our children are grown and have moved out and our place is underutilized as we spend a lot of time in Santa Cruz. We'd like to offer our Berkeley home to you as a short term rental.. The house is spacious and well equipped and there is ample outdoor space for spending time with friends or family with social distancing.
We have a 7 night minimum but may at times accept shorter stays The home has two bedrooms and one bath as well as a living room, a dining room, a pantry, and a breakfast nook. There is plenty of privacy. When we are in Berkeley we stay in back in a cottage. We enter via a driveway and would not be close to you when we stay in Berkeley.
Please note that the City of Berkeley charges a 14% tax for short term rentals.. If you rent our home for fewer than 14 nights you will need to pay this directly to us and we will forward it to the city. There is no tax for longer stays. We have a zoning certificate - # ZCSTR2017-0022.
The normal rent is $220.00 / night. During certain times of the year (Thanksgiving, Xmas, and most dates in May (University of Berkeley graduation) the rate is $250.00 / night This rate for two guests. There is a charge of $20.00 / night for any additional guests. The maximum number of guests is four.
Our house is meticulously maintained, clean, airy, and fully equipped. It is located on a tree-lined street in what is generally considered to be one of the most desirable areas of Berkeley, close to wonderful restaurants, shops, and walking streets.
Our place is perfect for visiting scholars, scientists, business or creative people and for tourists who prefer the peace and quiet of this lovely East Bay city. Many of our guests have been people with children and grandchildren or other relatives or friends in the area. There is easy and fast access to downtown San Francisco via public transportation; bus and BART stations are in walking distance from our house.
Parking is on the street but is not a problem - often you can park directly in front of the house. No sticker is needed. Occasionally parking might be a half block or at most 1 block away

We returned to the Bay Area to explore eventually retiring there since we went to college at UC Berkeley and Santa Cruz. Bob and Margarita's house was perfect in so many ways! In a nice area of town, close to fantastic restaurants, the campus, and with easy access to SF across the bay and Marin County, we took daily day trips to the ocean and other favorite spots! The house was nicely decorated, very clean and had every little thing one could want. The hosts made themselves easily available if we had needed assistance-which we did not. Probably the best VRBO we have ever had! Will stay again if we can.

This property was the perfect annex for friends attending a reunion with us in Berkeley. It was close, comfortable, and cozy. Communications with Robert, the owner, were prompt and easy. Couldn’t have asked for more.

My husband and I stayed for about ten days in this exquisite home. The house itself is spacious, well-stocked, beautifully decorated, and carefully maintained. The neighborhood is lovely, with parks and shops within an easy walking distance along tree-lined streets. A sweet library is a stone’s throw away. I’d stay in this perfect spot every time I visited Berkeley, if I could…

This is our second stay and both times the property and hosts were wonderful. Beautiful sunny house, quiet street, excellent location, clean and well stocked. The hosts are excellent communicators, friendly and welcoming, let us check in a few hours early, left some delicious fruits and wines for us. We love staying here and hope to be back someday.

We had a wonderful, restorative stay at this charming home. The property is meticulously maintained and outfitted with everything we needed. It is convenient to great markets, interesting restaurants and the surrounding neighborhood has many beautifully landscaped yards that make walks a treat. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly, and very communicative. We were sad to leave and look forward to visiting again. Thanks!

We immediately felt at home in this beautiful home. The owners had thought of every detail to make our five week stay a five star experience. The back porch made it possible to entertain outdoors to avoid exposure to covid etc. The neighborhood is ideally situated to enjoy Berkeley highlights like Monterey Market, Gourmet Ghetto, the Rose Garden, Solano Ave, and Tilden Regional Golf Course. Plus Sonoma and Napa are an easy day trip. We look forward to returning!

This is a lovely home in a quiet, leafy neighborhood, convenient to the many restaurants and cafes along Solano Ave. The Bart train is nearby, which takes you in and out of San Francisco. Grocery markets, including the fabulous Brooklyn Bowl, are also a short drive away. In general, this is a wonderful spot to explore the best of the Bay area.

The craftsman style of this house made me feel right at home, since I grew up in one...it was perfect for two of us, and up to four would be comfortable if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. The kitchen is small, but the breakfast nook added space. Living room furniture and beds were very comfortable and everything was very well stocked. Terrific formal dining room. Most importantly, the location was almost perfect for our purposes: lots of shops, cafes and restaurants in walking distance or a very short drive away, including the wonderful Monterey Market (probably one of the better produce markets in California, if not in the US) and even better Monterey Fish Market. Street parking only but we never had problems parking either directly in front of the house or right across the street. We used BART several times to go to San Francisco: the North Berkeley station is about a mile away and not a difficult walk, although on the weekends parking in the BART lot is free and easy. Bus ilnes stop very close to the house. Highly recommended and I would (will!) go back in a heart beat.

Perfect location to explore Berkley. Close to Solano, Monterey Market (top), to Shattuck Avenue (you can go by foot to Chez Panisse – still wow). By car a few minutes to downtown an the University ...

The house was perfect for our family's 10-day stay in the Bay Area. Enough space to spread out yet cozy enough to spend time together. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals together. A sun filled breakfast room to start the day. DVDs and streaming services to keep young adults entertained. Books and maps for exploring the Bay Area. The outdoor deck was lovely for meals or wine in the evening. The house is in a very walkable neighborhood and is ideally located within walking distance of Solano Ave's restaurants and shops, the Monterey Fruit & Produce Market and nearby shops, a lovely public library, and the new North Berkeley BART station (for easy trips into SF). The host was delightful.

Bob and Margarita’s house was perfect for our stay in Berkeley as our son recovered from surgery. The house is extremely clean, comfortable, and attractive, with everything we needed for the week. The neighborhood is beautiful, convenient, and walkable. Even though we had a car, we never used it as we could shop for delicious fish, meat, baked goods, and groceries all within half a mile, and get to Cheeseboard within a mile! Bob was super helpful and communicative. We will hope to be back next time we visit.

We have stayed in this house once before the pandemic and we’re happy to return. Everything you need is there. And the neighborhood is very walkable (watch out for uneven sidewalks on Fresno). We walked to Solano for lunch, found a Thai place that was really good. North Berkeley is another world. The first morning, I awakened to a raccoon looking in the window, and on our walk, a deer stepped from a driveway and walked down the street ahead of us. There are many interesting gardens in the neighborhood, also fun to see. The owners live in the back house and are very available if needed. (We did not have any problems). The artwork in the house is fabulous and the house reflects a well/traveled family, one that seemingly anyone would appreciate knowing. We hope to find the house available the next time we are in the Bay Area. Forgive my iPhone typos!

Bob and Margarita are the most thoughtful hosts. They deserve 10 stars! And, their lovely home! The welcome basket, sparkling appliances, classy furnishings, spacious rooms, garden setting, abundant natural light … all add up to beauty and comfort. Quiet neighborhood for walking and listening to birds. Near North Berkeley Branch Library, King Track and Field, 8-10 minute walk to bakery, fish market, poultry shop, pizzeria, sushi restaurant, Monterey Market, a café … OR walk northward to get to Solano Avenue – restaurants, shops, banks, Andronico’s (a supermarket). 3 bus lines! A thousand thanks to Margarita and Bob!

We stayed for one month to visit our son and his family. The house was just perfect - quiet, well-stocked, comfortable. The hosts Bob and Margarita were very hospitable and communicated well. They even invited us over for bagels and coffee. Very nice people. The neighborhood is idyll - tree lined streets, quiet, yet walkable to many good restaurants and shops. We will definitely be back!

Lovely, spacious, house in quiet neighbourhood. Excellent facilities - all mod cons. Beds very comfortable as were pillows. Furniture very comfortable as well - not like some places we've stayed that had seen better days. Obviously a very well cared fir property. Nice decking out back to sit on too.
No hesitation in recommending to others.

Lovely, lovely home
I can't say enough about our time in Berkeley. The home was well appointed with quality materials, and it was super clean. The neighborhood was awesome. Very walkable. We worked out at the track near the home everyday, and our kids loved the playground as well. I would definitely stay there again.

A great house in a quiet area, but you can walk to two good districts.
Very nice place to stay and we hope to be back soon. Bob and Margarita provided good written instructions and they were a pleasure to meet. About as good as it could be for getting to know Berkeley.
