ON THE ROAD TO PARADISE
Your adventure begins the moment you turn left off scenic Alum Cave Road and arrive at the gated entrance to the Cascadia Wilderness ... framing an incredible view of Greers Ferry Lake ... 500 feet (50 stories) below ... with the Ozark Mountain Highlands rising in the distance.
After passing through the gate you will descend down the terraces of Cascadia Pass ... through one mile of jungle like terrain ... winding slopes with panoramic views ... until you arrive at Moon Shadow Lodge and Water Step Cove ... a remote paradise ... a 5 Star operation ... check out our reviews since we opened for business in 2016.
The Cascadia Wilderness is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and four wheeling with a network of woodland trails to explore ... along the lake ... through mountain passes ... and deep down in shady hollows ... put on a bandana ... and follow the trails ...in any season you will have a blast. Be safe and respect the forest!
Why travel overseas when you can enjoy an exotic and luxurious waterfront lodge... near the center of the USA!
Disappear into the emerald forests of the Ozark Mountains ... hide out in the Arkansas Highlands ... remote, relaxing, luxurious and fun.
The calming effect is amazing!! Become one with Nature!
Enjoy the blazing summer sunsets, scarlet moonlights and stellar constellations ... listen to an incredible chorus of birds, insects, whispering winds, rustling leaves, lapping waves and trickling waters. On a clear night you should turn off the lights ... sit on the deck and enjoy the sensations.
On a stormy night you can often just turn off the lights to watch a spectacular lightning show over the lake ... and then go hiking with a camera the next morning to check out the waterfalls.
With a good camera, some good hiking or climbing shoes, a backpack, bug spray and a tall walking stick ... you will completely forget about your smart phone or tablet!
The Lodge is nestled deep in a hollow between mountain and lake ... with a heavenly place to swim, fish, dive, boat ... or just relax on a big flat rock to catch the brilliant sunsets lighting up the sky.
On either side of Water Step Cove lies Moon Shadow Beach ... with a beautiful view of Sugarloaf Island National Trail rising out of the lake to the east ... and the brilliant sunsets that slowly disappear behind Choctaw Ridge to the west. The soft shale beach is interspersed with stacks of wide flat rocks making it easy to step or dive into the clear blue water.
Instead of sea shells ... here you can hunt for magical "Aetites," the Greek word for Eaglestones. These unusual looking stones ... a mixture of iron, sand and clay ... were once rented as magic amulets to pregnant ladies by sorcerers in ancient pagan times to protect their unborn child from the evil demoness with many names ... such as Lilith or Gello. Some stones are quite interesting, beautiful and useful as ashtrays or baby shower gifts.
The pictures fail to fully illustrate the beauty of the Lodge and it's incredible setting ... so we created a face book page for "Moon Shadow Lodge" where you can go to learn more about this special place ... or share photographs and post stories about your exotic experience in this Ozark Mountain Paradise.
A prior world record Walleye was caught not far from the Lodge ... and below the John F. Kennedy Dam on the Little Red River you will find world record Trout!

Fantastic cove on the lake with some of the easiest lake access on the lake. House has everything you need or want. The drive to the house is worth it! Will do it again!

Best cabin on the lake! 10/10

Excellent stay for the weekend. Property was perfect. Hope to stay again in the future.

This was a great property for a large family with a couple of places for large groups and many areas to sit and enjoy the quiet alone. It is a bit of a drive back to the property, which for us was perfect. There are lots of things to do such as sitting around the fire, kayaking, hiking, etc. The downstairs game room was a hit for the everyone. I would definitely recommend this VRBO.
4.8
We wanted nothing more from the scenery, and the cabin. The area and the views are both beautiful, and the well stocked cabin was breathtaking. From the dungeon game room and large balcony to the beaches and native rocks there was always something to do for fun. The only thing I would suggest is to place more emphasis on how rugged and steep the road to the cabin is, and terrain around the cabin. You will not be disappointed with this place.
4.8
We went as a group and thoroughly enjoyed both the indoors and outdoors. A lot of space inside and so much area to roam outdoors. Very secluded and cozy while still being close enough to town to pick up goods if needed. Would definitely go back!

We elected this remote cabin in Arkansas for our summary get away with family and friends. The cabin is situated between two streams looking out at a beautiful lake. It takes about 10 minutes from the main gate to travel on the graded road that winds around, and up and down (both vehicles, 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive, did fine even with the rain showers). The owner allowed us to charge our Tesla, too! There was plenty of room for the seven of us especially with 3 bathrooms (one on each floor). We enjoyed hiking (around the cabin, Mt. Nebo and Petit Jean), kayaking, roasting marshmallows, and playing games. Overall, it was a great vacation!

My wife and I wanted a quiet place in the woods all to ourselves, and Moon Shadow Lodge was ideal. The lodge made us feel like we were in a treehouse in the forest canopy, and we enjoyed sitting on the deck watching all the birds and looking out over the lake. We also enjoyed hiking on the nearby Turtle Trail where we saw some turtles. We kayaked on the lake, went swimming, took naps in our hammock, watched movies on the big couch in the living room, played pool in the downstairs game room, and soaked in the jacuzzi tub upstairs. Everything was wonderful!
4.8
This place is amazing! Coffee on that deck overlooking the lake just hits differently. Everything you need. Kids loved it. They enjoyed the lake and outdoors during the day and had the whole downstairs to relax at night. Very nice place!

This place is wonderful! This cabin itself is beautiful. We enjoyed the game room and spent every night playing games with a fire burning in the fireplace. Mornings on the deck with coffee were nice too. There is a great view. It's a relatively easy walk to the water but it is not just a simple walk out the back door. Bring your own fishing poles. We forgot to grab ours and were sad about it. The roads coming in are not for the inexperienced. You want to come in when it's daylight and pay attention to the signs!
My only real gripe is about the hot tub. It's a garden tub with jets in the upstairs bathroom. I was told it fills with filtered well water but still had a yellow tint from some mineral left over. I was okay with that but I was not okay with the dirt floating around. I would check your water for dirt before getting in.
We'd definitely come back, just no baths next time!

This cabin is an awesome getaway at the bottom of a hillside forest. Switchback roads required to get in, but we had two two wheel drive vehicles handle it with no issue. One a Cadillac car. Between the basement game room, canoes, walks up the mountain and along the shore, October playoff baseball, campfire, and good food we planned and bought before getting there- we never left. Dugan was super responsive.
House is great. Bathrooms and big walk in showers are great, with blow up mattresses this house could sleep 20. I’m sure this is a Great Lake house in the summer with the water just yards away.
4.8
The owner is amazing, he picked a beautiful piece of lake front property to build a rustic luxury huge cabin, arguably one of the most beautiful homes on the lake, pool table downstairs, a two story fireplace to cuddle up on any floor. A gorgeous wrap around deck, cozy beds, gourmet kitchen, I mean if u didn’t go outside you would have sn amazing vacation but go outside and sit on back porch and look at the lake!! Walk down to the beach and stroll around, it’s all yours !! Be sure to ask for property map, he has all the private trails and points of interest marked on it for you to explore!! It’s a huge piece of land. A week stay and you could not see everything!! The beach access was gorgeous with so many different spots to sunbathe on the rocky cliffs or watch the stars at nite !! We loved this place. Loved it

This place is amazing. The photos do not do it justice. As a realtor I would suggest that the owner invest in some professional photos. No doubt this place would stay booked!! There is a beautiful private cove that we spend most of our time in with the kids. The water activities and supplies were an extra bonus. There was plenty of space for our family of 7 with room to spare. The only thing is the store is a good distance away so definitely write a grocery list and prepare for the days ahead. The drive down is a little nerve wracking. We are from the very flat state of Louisiana. Lol. So I was extremely nervous driving my Yukon down the gravel road with the mountain slopes and loose gravel. I wouldn’t suggest it in a car unless you are familiar with how to drive down that type of terrain. We would no doubt stay again and definitely recommend this place to anyone!!

We loved this property, it was our 2nd time there in 5 years. Plenty of room for everybody and a great spot on the lake, highly recommend!

We had a fantastic time at Moonshadow Lodge! Our party included 5 teens and an eight year old. The property was very clean and had everything we could need…we cooked every night and grilled. The kids loved fishing off the property and caught bass, bream, sun perch, and catfish. They also had a blast canoeing and kayaking, swimming, hiking Turtle Trail, and playing pool, ping pong and football. We took a couple days and went trout fishing on the Little Red River and limited out on rainbow trout. We also rented a pontoon boat and took the kids tubing! The view from the lodge is just beautiful! Great responsiveness and communication from the owner and we never had any issues! The kids had an absolute blast and we would rent this place again in a heartbeat! Thanks for sharing this beautiful place!

Fabulous time. Beautiful property right on the lake. Stocked with everything you need and then some. Definitely need a 4 wheel drive getting in and out! We had a blast!!
4.8
The house was great. The decor was warm and the views were spectacular. The road getting there was a little rough so 4 wheel drive is recommended especially in the winter.

Moon Shadow Lodge is everything described, and more. The location is amazing - a peaceful lake cove with a walkable gorgeous lakeshore on either side. The water was low enough for us to walk up and down naturally-formed steps of sparkling granite, discover intricate rock formations and enjoy breathtaking views of lake, trees, and sky. We turned all the lights off at night and immersed ourselves in the starlight sky. The spirit of the place really shines through!
And in the middle of pristine nature, we had a "five star" experience in a wonderfully-designed and appointed lake house. The kitchen is the best equipped we've experienced in a rental, with top of the line appliances, cookware and gadgets. It was a pleasure to leisurely cook our meals while taking in the views. The details of the house made it really special, with original wood and stone everywhere. But the bathrooms really take the cake. We felt like we were at a spa, excellent showers with intricate stone work and beautiful everything else in the room. The jacuzzi tub for two is the bomb!
Finally, Dugan the owner was a wonderful host. Totally accessible by text and phone, which was great because the house is very secluded so it made us very comfortable to know that we could reach him at any time.
Moon Shadow Lodge is a great romantic getaway, but it's really set up perfectly for families with three separate floors and a lot of private spaces.
Thank you, Dugan, for sharing your amazing retreat with us and being a great host!

Enjoyed staying at this property for a wedding this past weekend. Will stay again!

The house is great! It fit our three generations of family perfectly; a suite upstairs for parents, a grandparents room on the main floor so minimal stairs to climb and a kids/game room down below. Great view and direct access to the lake. Interesting drive down to it, best done with four-wheel drive. Dugan was the best host we’ve ever stayed with and we’ve stayed in many vacation homes. Read everything on the website and you won’t be disappointed

Moon Shadow was one of the best lake houses we have stayed in. The house was super clean and well stocked. The area was beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for a better house and location on the lake. Very secluded but still has internet access. Fishing was great also even though it was super windy and rainy most of our trip.

The house was great once we got to it, but the road to get to it off of Alum Cave Road was a little scary. We were fine in my husbands truck so we left our other vehicles at the venue (the Barn at Greers Ferry Lake) to go back and forth.

Words and pictures do not do it justice! You have to see and experience it for yourself to truly appreciate the beauty of this peaceful property. Even our two teen boys loved it!
Dugan was an amazing host and from the very start gave us all the information we would need to arrive, settle in and make the most of our stay.
Whether it was hiking along the shore, on trails through the trees, canoeing on the lake or just relaxing with a book in one of the many vantage points from which you can enjoy the scenery and sounds of nature, you really cannot go wrong booking this property!
4.8
I’ve stayed in many cabins, and this by far was the best. The property has well water, but the owner has gone above and beyond to provide filtered water for his patrons. There is also an ice machine…it really is the little things that make a stay perfect! The only suggestion I have is to put a queen bed in the dungeon room and move the bunk beds into the game room. We had three families stay, and one had to sleep on the bunk beds. We would make this our annual trip if that was changed. I loved every aspect!

Wow! This property exceeded our expectations! We're always looking for properties that allow for exploring while also providing the level of comfort we prefer! This place had that and then some! Bring your mountain bikes and climbing legs to get the full experience. Start to finish Dugan was an exceptional host. We will definitely be back when the weather's warmer, and we can play in the water after riding bikes.
