About this house rental
ALOHA HATTERAS fronts Askins Creek, overlooks Pamlico Sound, is a 5 minute walk to the beach and 5 min drive to Avon Pier. It is also 3min drive to the island's best grocery shopping...key to keeping the chef happy! The kitchen-greatroom layout with views and a cathedral ceiling is the perfect beach house configuration.
PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES: we want happy guests! The decor, like most comparable rentals on Hatteras, is largely late 80's when it was built. It is a retro beach house look with original cabinetry and classic durable beach house furniture. Fixtures, flooring, paint, cushions have all been updated.
Unrestricted, panoramic views of/over water include fish jumping, birds feeding, colorful Pamlico Sound windsurfers/kiteboarders silently drifting by in the distance, and fantastic sunsets--are all narrated to the sound of nature.
Come enjoy this fabulous view and it's relative isolation (...not sitting on your deck staring at your neighbor like a lot of the 'competition'...even a lot of the 'oceanfront' cottages only have a view of the back of dunes...). Alohas Hatteras is perfectly situated: the beach is a 5-7 minute walk away, the shared pool a short drive away, and the incredible sunset views of Askin’s Creek/Pamlico Sound from the decks and great room.
Experience an intimate relationship with the beauty and magic of Hatteras Island, the gem of the outerbanks.
Aloha is Hawaiian for welcome, farewell and love. The owners, whose children grew up in the Hawaiian Islands when stationed there with the military, want you to fall in love with Hatteras Island/the ‘other islands’ of the outer banks. ALOHA HATTERAS is your passport and its deck is truly one of those “close your eyes and think of a favorite, peaceful place” kind of settings The vista is dynamic with no neighbors in your field of view enjoy: the Great Egret or Blue Herons feed to the sound of song bird music and fish jumping in the morning, striking sunsets over Pamlico sound in the evening, and undiminished stars from the deck’s 6 person hot tub at night. Forget your car and walk to the beach for that early morning stroll, the midday sun, the evening tides. Windsurfers, kite boarders, and families with small children will love the privacy of the readily available, protected, shallow sandy beaches of Pamlico Sound.. Fishermen also have access to Hatteras Island's only fishing pier; (they also rent equipment).
Bedrooms are on the lower floor with 2 baths; there is a half bath on the top floor and rustic outdoor shower at ground level. (Like most Hatteras Island rentals, we do not provide linens and towels. However, you can rent them; ask Nadine for a suggested vendor.)
Kitchen: well equipped with pots/pans, dishes, glasses, cups, knives/cutting boards, mixer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and many more.
The ground level has ample concrete parking, outside shower, charcoal grill, and carport for rainy days.
The 1st floor has four bedrooms and two baths with shaded deck and fantastic views off two bedrooms.
Living room: ALOHA HATTERAS’ large upper level great room with tall cathedral ceilings has unrestricted panoramic views of Askin’s Creek and Pamlico Sound, lots of glass, screened in porch--'postcard' views of Hatteras Island's quiet side.

The beach house was a nice quiet stay, and plenty of room for everyone . We got to see a baby deer and its mother living in the tall grass behind the house , which was pretty exciting. The back porch was my favorite spot to relax. So peaceful and lots of wildlife to watch. The beds were all comfortable and the tv’s in the bed bedrooms were a plus. The only downside was that the washer and dryer were in a room outside of the home all the way downstairs. Also for anyone with bad hips or knees , the steps leading up to get in the house were a lot.

First, great location and the AC works great. Nice hot tub. However, it really does not sleep 10 Furniture is outdated and dirty. Mold and mildew on pull out sofa. Other sofas dirty and not clean. The faucet in the kitchen was broken, my brother cleaned the dishwasher filter as no dishes were getting clean. The vegetation was overgrown and scraped our cars. Each bedroom was not clean and debris all over the floors. The vacuum cleaner did not work very well as we used it to clean for ourselves. Overall not satisfied at all and not worth the amount of money I spent. Very disappointed.

We recently stayed at this vacation house for our family trip, which included two children (ages 6 and 7) and five adults. The location was wonderfully quiet, private, and serene. The house itself was spotless and spacious, providing plenty of room for everyone to relax and move around comfortably. We loved that there were balconies on each floor, offering great views. However, be prepared for quite a few steps, as the layout includes multiple levels.
While the beach was not within walking distance, we opted to drive there, which worked out well. The community pool was conveniently close, and the kids absolutely loved spending time there. We also purchased an RV pass to drive onto the beach, which made beach outings easy and enjoyable.
There were plenty of activities in the area to keep us entertained throughout our stay. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely rent this property again.

Upon pulling in to drive, the un trimmed trees, bushes and wild vines scratched the sides of my truck. We had to bring food, kitchen towels, toilet paper, bath & beach towels, bedding, shower soap, shampoo & conditioner, hair dryers. There were over 20 steps leading to the first floor, another 8-10 more leading to the kitchen/LR area. The home was hot, but moderately clean upon arrival, dead bugs, including roaches on the floor upstairs. The furniture was old, ok considering it was dog friendly rental. The outdoor furniture was broken and unusable. The view off of the deck was gorgeous, however. We enjoyed watching the fish, birds, and sunsets! The washer/dryer were an afterthought, as they were located on the lowest level inside a storage space outdoors, which wasn’t convenient or lit properly for safety purposes. Television was difficult to access and WI-FI off line when we arrived to Aloha Hatteras property. I had to call the tv service myself, following instructions to get it to work. We had to watch APPS such as YouTube for entertainment, which truly annoyed my elderly parents. It seemed to us that the owner of Aloha Hatteras hadn’t updated anything but the flooring, which was a mess friendly type of vinyl. Nice choice!
My parents and I made the best of the situation for a week. I swept the floors and looked past the imperfections, vacationing in “Retro space” for the week. If you like 60’s & 70’s vibes this place is for you! The HEAT/AC works.

That place worked out just right for us. Close enough for kids not to get bored, but seclude enough for us old people to relax. Perfect combination for us. Thanks.

I left Aloha Hatteras kicking and screaming. I highly recommend this home. It was sparkling clean. The bedding provided a wonderful night's sleep. The kitchen is very-well stocked with high quality cookware. The open living area was great for cooking and hanging out with family. The view is beautiful. I really loved that the decks off the living area and bedrooms are enclosed. (Super nice when you have a dog.) We enjoyed the nice hot tub, too. The location is extremely quiet and private - which is hard to come by at any beach - but very convenient to grocery shopping, restaurants and gift shops. The host was also very responsive and kind. I've stayed in many places all along OBX and this property was by far my favorite. . Aloha Hatteras made for the best vacation I've had in many years. Many thanks!

We gathered as a family with our 96 year old father. The house is a lovely place for this. Everything is so clean and the great room makes visiting, meals and relaxing convenient for everyone. Sitting on the top deck and watching Askins Creek is a favorite of all. We are all over 60. We fished, birded, did touristy things, sat and drank tea, and just absorbed this beautiful place in this comfortable home.

Property was as described with following thoughts bring bug spray the mosquitoes are bad. There is no convenient launch for the kayak on the creek there was not even one roll of paper towels although the description stated no linens or towels this did surprise us for a high end rental

A lovely and well designed house, in a beautiful location and decorated with wonderful paintings by the owner, we believe. The configuration, furnishings and equipment are just what you'd choose for yourself: great pots, pans and knives in the kitchen; terrific hot tub; comfortable beds and pillows; washer and dryer; and so on. We had an extremely enjoyable stay and would love to return in future.

We enjoyed our vacation on the outer banks. The house was very clean and comfortable had everything we needed. Loved staying in Avon it was quiet and away from the more crowded places on the outer banks. Booking was easy and owner was pleasant to communicate with. We hope to return some day.

Our family spent a week at Aloha Hatteras and had such a good time. The house was very clean and well equipped. It is a great space for family gatherings with a large open living/dining/kitchen area.
The house is secluded, off the road so you don’t hear traffic. The view of Askins Creek and the sound was lovely, great for sunsets. There are lots of things to do nearby, from crabbing at the Canadian Hole to climbing the Hatteras Lighthouse to taking a day trip to Okracoke Island.
The beds were comfortable, and we slept well. The laundry facilities were great. There was a hot tub, but we did not use it.
Thanks so much for your hospitality!

Hatters
The property needed updating. There was a leak in the ceiling and the ceiling fell into the tub and there was palmetto bugs crawling in the kitchen, so we had to leave the property and only got 2 days at the beach. The owner was nice and gave us a full refund. But we didn’t get our vacation at Hatteras because VRBO dis not have another property available.

Great Getaway!
We loved this property and had the most relaxing vacation! My kids enjoyed the pool membership and that was right on the beach so we could go back and forth which was a huge benefit! The house itself was great, plenty of room and hidden away a little so very quiet. All around great time!

PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL WEEK.
This is our 3rd stay at ALoha Hatteras. It has all the room we need and more. The view from the upper back deck is breath taking. Especially at sunset. Askins Creek is just behind the house and the Sound can also be seen. I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub on the upper deck each evening at Sunset. The view was gorgeous . I already miss it now that we are back home. Some updates have been made since our last stay and look great. It is minutes from the Ocean front and has more than enough room. We love staying here and look forward to returning. ALoha!!!

Aloha Hatteras on OBX
Property was accurately represented in VRBO listing, meaning that the listing did not depict the property as being something it was not. However, upon arrival and closer inspection, we feel the property needs a deep cleaning. There were crumbs and food debris in cupboards, and dust collecting in places like the ceiling fans and some window dressings. The pillow coverings (some with stains) and comforters were a bit tired and need to be replaced. The microwave oven is very old and many functions do not work. It seems that a $200 investment in a new one would go a long way in alleviating frustration with renters. In general the property needs updating in terms of interior finishes and decor; it's still very much in the 80s/90s. On the plus side, the layout of this large house with a HUGE main living area that opens to multi-level decks (that are well maintained) is perfect for a large group. The kitchen island is HUGE too... also perfect large groups. The hot tub is in perfect working order (non-functioning hot tubs are a common complaint in rental properties). The view from the decks to the sound side provided us with many nights of jaw-dropping sunsets. It should be noted that we had family staying in two other nearby, similar vacation homes (one within the same neighborhood), and they ALL seem to be about the same.... requiring updates. The Aloha Hatteras property is in perfect location with nearby access to fantastic beaches that were not too crowded, even in late July. It is 5 minutes from the grocery store and plenty of restaurants. The Koru beach club is 5 minutes away, very clean and easy to use. Renters also get free access to the nearby fishing pier. We had only one question for the owner during our stay, and she replied within a few hours. I would rent here again, and recommend this property to others.

The view from the upstairs back deck was very nice. However the lower deck had some sort of vine growing up it and I didn’t want my granddaughter around it. I booked the property because the description indicated tidal creek was accessible for possibly kayaking and or fishing. The property out back was over grown and not possible to walk through. The house had spiders. My son in law used the broom to get them and webs off the ceiling. Overall, the house needs updating. Many chairs and stools need repairing. Also, check-in time was very confusing.

Charlie and Nadine, owners of Aloha Hatteras, were very accommodating to our family and dog. House was nicely decorated and had a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the kayak and hot tub. Deck areas were a great place to enjoy a cup of tea and/or coffee😊

Lovely sound side location with beautiful sunset views from the deck or hot tub.
The property was clean and comfortable. We loved the location with the sound views. The sunsets sound side are very nice. After staying there I would probably chose sounds side over ocean side in Avon. The walk to the beach was only 5 minutes and the sound side was so peaceful and beautiful at night.
The listing matches the pictures very well. The proximity to the grocery store was very nice as others have noted. The kitchen layout is very functional for lots of people to work in at once. 8 people could fit around the round table in the dining room easily and extra people could spill over to the screened in porch table and the kitchen island if needed.
The shower heads were a bit basic. I believe they show in one of the pictures.
The overall stay was very nice. I would recommend. Communications about any issues were promptly answered.

Great Place
Our stay was wonderful. The house was extremely clean and described perfectly in their description. The location was convenient and the deck with the hot tub was terrific. The kitchen was fully equipped for all our cooking needs. The house was a little dated but nothing to really complain about and the pictures are exactly how it looks. The beds were comfortable however the showers whether it be the shower head or actual pressure were not the greatest but extremely clean and again nothing to complain about I am just mentioning it.
Overall we had a wonderful time and would rent again. Thank you.

We had a really nice time in this beautiful place. The house was very comfortable with beautiful views, and the bath tub outside was a sure hit, especially at sunset and night. Highly recommend!

Great time, great view
Everything about this house was as advertised. Great view of the Sound. Hot tub is fantastic after a day of surf or fishing. Clean and everything is in good shape. We left our salt and pepper for future families though (hint to owners: It’s nice to have a few basics.). Great stay overall

Our week stay
We loved the natural setting. Large decks overlook the creek and Sound with Herons, ducks, Kingfishers. Saw a deer in the backyard. There were really no bugs on our October trip, but the addition of a screened porch is perfect for summer. The location is perfect for both beach and Sound access.

Seniors from 66 to 94
This was our second stay. My husband and I and my father had a wonderful week. The home has a beautiful location overlooking Askins Creek with a view of the sound. In September the area was very quiet. The home had new flooring and some other updates. Everything was very clean and comfortable. It was easy to communicate with the property manager. We can't wait to go back!

Aloha Hatteras
Property was as advertised. Beautiful location. Quiet and quaint. Beautiful views of the Pamlico sound and Atlantic. The hot tub was a definite enjoyment. Would’ve loved to have slept in a king size bed, though. However, we enjoyed our stay at Aloha Hatteras.

A week in Avon
We enjoyed our stay. House was as advertised so no bad experience. The dryer was left a mess from previous tenant and Nadine was great to respond with a new dryer. You can access Askins Creek from the property and we had no issues. We would rent again.

House is beautiful!
The house was better than description! Very roomy inside and family was able to keep bedroom level cold while I stayed upstairs temp more to my liking. Grandsons used the kayak and we utilized the Koru Village pool too! I loved the spacious kitchen, which made cooking easy. Everyone loved the hot tub in the evening and I enjoyed drinking my coffee on the deck in the morning. We spent one day on Ocracoke which the ferry is free and not very far from the house. The only issue is raccoons getting in the trash. I suggest keeping bags in screened in porch if cans are full. We will definitely come back to Aloha House again. Thanks Nadine for everything.

Nice views of the creek and sound. Beautiful sunsets. Convenient to beach, shopping.

Highly recommend
Even though this was our first time in the Outer Banks, we felt like we lucked out by picking this house! Location is unbeatable: walk to the beach, unobstructed views from the deck (where you will spend A LOT of time), very functional house, and I could go on. Worked great for two families and would highly recommend for anyone wanting to stay in this part of the Outer Banks. Avon is a great place, with all the necessary conveniences within 5 minutes. Not much else to do than beach and rest, but I guess that’s why you come here, right?

Wongetful house, wonderful location
House was as listed. Walking distance to beach and on an inlet for kayaking. Plenty of space and gorgeous sunsets. Highly recommend!
