Spectacular beach views, full kitchen on each level, easily accommodates large groups, convenient beach access, and comfortable stay with minor wear and tear.
3.0 / 5.0
There were so many code violations it is amazing it’s allowed to operate; electrical outlets non-functioning or intermittent, no emergency exits in many rooms, and the stairs to the upper floor and to the lower floor were treacherous. Virtually no ventilation. The WiFi was spotty around the building today to say nothing of slow. It’s sad because the location is amazing.
5.0 / 5.0
The location of this property is centrally located along the Coast, and the views of the beach/ocean are spectacular. The full kitchen and laundry room on each level (three floors) was also so convenient. I will definitely rent this property again.

View amazing, able to hear the ocean was great!! Needs some updates and a little TLC but overall great for our family from Maine, Maryland, New Mexico, Florida, Nevada, Utah and Idaho and of course Oregon...
3.0 / 5.0
The property is fine: good location, easy access to beach, good condition for a vacation rental, clean and well equipped. But Vacasa gave terrible service. Vacasa did not give us the correct access code before checkin and did not respond to phone calls at all and only responded to text messages after hours of delay. We did not get the correct access code until 10 am of the morning after checkin. We were only able to get in because we found an open window. Because our party included two 90+ year old grandmas, to call this stressful would be a massive understatement. We are very disappointed with Vacasa.

Plenty of beds and bathrooms for our large family. The layout between all 3 units was perfect. We were easily able to flow back and forth between the 3 levels. I rated it a 4 because we had electrical issues with one of the bedrooms, but a repairman was sent and all was good. Also, the kitchen was missing some basic tools (good knives, measuring cups and spoons, etc). The property has some pretty significate wear and tear, but it didn't take away from the comfort of our stay. Ocean views were amazing. Easy walk to the beach, but you did have to walk down rocks/boulders to enter the sand. For anyone with limited mobility, this would have been a major issue.

Good property for large groups. We have 35 there and everyone was comfortable. View of the ocean is great.

We loved our stay at The Whale! Over 30 family members of all ages fit comfortably in this accommodation! The home is a bit older, and some things are worn out, but with close beach access sand can reek havoc! We were in close proximity to so many amenities such as waterfalls, lighthouses, deep sea fishing and whale watching not to mention the five minute walk to beach! Any issues we had with the house were quickly handled. As mentioned in other reviews, the electric outlets on the third floor were hit or miss as most did not work and the blinds in many rooms were broken but we managed to work through those and focused on the beautiful ocean views that just couldn’t be beat! A few minor updates are needed but our visit was just amazing! We hope to be back!!

I had some preconceived vision of a house not a hotel. It was set back from beach. Had a rocky way to get down there. Beds were ok not great.
The three tiers for our 25 person family was good to separate teens from adults. The kitchen

Poor customer service, lots of damage and items that didn’t work, expensive for what you get.

Where do I begin.....
Main floor shower leaked into lower bedroom causing occupants to quickly find another place to sleep. After observing the ceiling it was apparent that this was a leak that had been there awhile. Hole in ceiling to the pipes were covered with sheets of cardboard. Maintenance did come to caulk 2 main floor showers to stop the leak but we couldn't use them for 24 hrs. He also was surprised that the unit was rented because he had been there to fix it before and the plumber was supposed to fix the broken pipes in the ceiling.
The upper floor washing machine leaked through the ceiling down to the main floor hall/laundry area. I called the office to let them know that we had yet another leak. She said she'd contact maintenance but I told her not to bother since the problem was much bigger than his caulk gun could fix and we were leaving the next day.
The upper and main floor dishwashers leaked onto the kitchen floors. And the handrail on the stairway to the lower level was pulling away from the wall. Considering how steep the stairs were, I consider it a serious safety hazard.
The stair carpets were filthy and simply need to be replaced. This was frequently mentioned in the reviews but apparently fell on dead ears.
The missing blinds in the bedrooms had not been replaced.
The ovens had burned-on food in the bottom and smoked horribly when used.
I rented this in good faith assuming that any problems that were mentioned in the reviews would be addressed and fully rectified. Not the case. Vacasa rented me a unit that it knew had major plumbing issues but ignored them. If I had known this I NEVER would have rented the Whale.

Great place for a large family!
We only had 1 issue and it was fixed so fast that I only mention it in order to highlight how responsive Vacasa was. One thing( that I didn't discuss with the Casa is that the upper floor did not have blinds in some rooms and the outside city lights shown right in on us, keeping some of us awake at night.

We loved the location of this house. We had plenty of room for 35 of us. Good beach access. Some of the amenities needed replacement. Some amenities were replaced when we asked. The house was not very clean and we were disappointed with that. Floors were very dirty. Bathrooms needed more attention, etc. Trash disposal was inadequate. Interior carpeted stairs were very dirty.
Prior to our visit, we had a lot of difficulty finding out what equipment was available at the house so that we could plan meals, etc. for our large family group.
More attention to maintenance would make this a more satisfactory location.

The location is great! We are a large family group of 30. This house (3 floors) worked out great for us.
5.0 / 5.0
We had 27 people for our family reunion and the Whale was more than adequate to accommodate that size of a group. There was plenty to do in the area for everyone. The beach was just a short walk away. There was a sandy beach at either high tide or low tide that extended North and South farther than I wanted to walk. It was very comfotable.
4.0 / 5.0
The 3 floors with full kitchens was ideal for large family gatherings allowing group gatherings but also allowed for separation and privacy. The beach was fabulous and just a short walk away. We had two maintenance issues that arose and they were quickly corrected.
I was disappointed that given what we had paid no one ever stopped by or asked how are things and are there any issues beyond requesting a rating of the cleanliness of the rental.
Specific issues 2 of the 3 icemakers do not work, the dining table and chairs on the 2nd floor are gross. Numerous plugs on the third floor do not work. Most of the rooms do not have windows that open so they get very stuffing and warm. Fans would be very helpful but there are none.

Nice place for a weekend retreat
Went here for a fraternity retreat and while the overall experience was great, there were a few issues with the place.
Pros:
There's plenty of room for sleeping, hanging out, and cooking.
The walk to the beach is super quick.
The walls are well soundproofed.
Great view of the beach.
Cons:
It's advertised as an enormous renovated home, but it's more like several connected suites inside of an apartment complex.
While the place sleeps 40, there isn't enough cookware to cook for 40 people. We were constantly shuffling pans, spatulas, and plates between floors when we needed more.
The stairs connecting the second and third floor were locked when we got there, but management went in and opened those up for us the next morning.
The walk to the beach includes a gravel road that hurts to walk on barefoot.

Decent Accommodations
Great view, nice beds/furniture. Very clean, except the stairs were quite filthy. Service wear and place settings were a bit scant, and we could have used more wine glasses, & garbage bags. One dryer didn't work and a already weak(apparent afterwards) shelf peg in the refrigerator broke and we lost a gallon of tomato bisque. Big bummer.
The place was comfortable and enjoyable, and we enjoyed our stay! Will consider for future events.

It easily accommodates a lot of people.

Accommodates big group needs better maintenance
The positives are beautiful views, fairly well updated inside, accommodates a big group (bring extra chairs if you want to be able to gather all in one place), has adequate kitchen setup for large group when renting whole unit (3 ranges, sinks, dishwashers, refers). We enjoyed our time but there were definitely negatives: the stairs between the floors were quite dirty, shelves were dusty, there was a small cockroach infestation in the upstairs kitchen and bathroom that was not “discovered” and disclosed until after checkin. There was no time to deal with the issue as we were there and had no where else to go. There was hair in some towels. Apart from 5 master suites there are only 3 other bathrooms to accommodate the remaining 30 people, there was a lot of waiting for bathrooms. The outside is old and kindof ugly and in need of updating. Over all if we were guaranteed the insect problem was taken of, we would probably use this again but only if something newer was not available.

Great Size & Location
This property had tons of sleeping room for our large family gathering of 16 adults and 5 kids. Each level has a seperate eating and gathering space none of which are large enough by themselves for large groups. There are great views of the ocean from all levels. However, the street side of the building has alot of road noise. The photos on the listing are outdated. There were some issues with plumbing that were resolved the next day but many features need some repair work. For example, the handle on the fridge was loose and falling off, fire alarms chirped in the night, two of the fridges didn't have working ice makers, light fixtures without working light bulbs, mold on the shower ceiling...etc. For the price I felt it should have been maintained better.

I would not recommmend
We reserve the Whale every year for a retreat with 40 women, Upon arrival the codes to enter were incorrect, the house was dirty, feces left in toilet, beds not changed form previous guest, refrigerator was dirty with liquid in the bottom, the floors and furniture were covered in sand. The house was very rundown and not cared for, We ran out of towels and toilet paper and there was no onsite staff to help. Th high light of the week was the weather, so we had a great time.

Amazing!!! Early quiet hours
The place in general was great! Beautiful views. Sooo many rooms and space for everything. We had everything we needed. It does have a grill which was something they told us they didn't have. It is on the main floor.
The only downfall we had were the quiet hours. It does say from 9 to 6, I believe. Granted there were 40 of us for a reunion there from all over the US but still. We got one call but the front lady was super sweet and courteous about the noise level. So definitely ensure you know when it reads 9 they mean 9.
All of the dishes are glass so if you have a ton of kiddos I'd suggest getting plastic cups and plates.
The beach is easily accessible.
Overall it was great for the price and the amount of people we had there. Would definitely do another reunion there.

The Whole Whale
We loved the fact that our group of 20 had so many options for cooking, sleeping and eating under one roof! We were a little disappointed that this awesome rental is not as well maintained as it could be. Some mold was observed by one of our group, dome electrical fixtures were not working and we had to repair the garbage disposal upon arrival. But don’t let this deter you. The location and the views are awesome!!!

Perfect for our retreat
This is the second time we have rented "The Whale" for our retreat. We love the three separate floors and the space it provides. Even though we had 40 people, it didn't feel like too many and we were able to fit everyone for dinner on the main floor. Thanks so much for the option for a late check out. Some of our crew was pretty excited to leave at their own leisure the next day:)

Great for my huge family reunion
Big enough to fit the whole clan.
3 separate floors means spaces for different activities:
* Video games and noisy dance party for teens up top.
* Card games, and no stair climbing those bunked in middle.
* Nap time for babies (and tired dancers) below.
Triple win. We loved it!!

Good place for big crowds
Great for our small business staff retreat, beautiful view of the ocean, above tsunami zone for the anxious, and plenty of room. As others have noted, no good indoor gathering place for everyone; however, there is a downstairs patio area if the weather is nice. Interesting juxtaposition of some really beautiful updates and appliances and cheap, some broken (3/4 recliners on the couches) furniture, old, dirty and hairy carpet on stairs. Otherwise, cleanliness was acceptable. Update those few things, and it would be a 5 star.

Great place for a family reunion
The view is wonderful, we rented all three floors, had to hunt for utensils, the pots and pans a little worn out, could use a touch up, the rooms were great, beds were comfy, plenty of room for everyone.

Excellent living arrangements with exceptional cleanliness. Beach is five minute walk away.
We will look to rent this house again as it’s a five minute walk away from the beach. Well laid out floorplans and worth every penny for vacation and relaxation!

Perfect for large reunions!
We had a group of 35 and rented all three floors. Everyone loved that there was space to get away and take a nap or a break from the noise, and also be a part of all the action when they wanted to. Not being able to dine together was a drawback, and included the concern of kids eating on upholstered furniture and leaving small messes in areas where you wouldn't want them in your own home. The access to the beach was terrific and a huge plus. Aside from the dining concerns and some obvious wear and tear on some of the furniture, we would still highly recommend The Whale. We had a wonderful time!

Absolutely perfect for large group
We had my daughters wedding here in October. It accomodated whole wedding party and some family and friends with no problems. Plenty of room for everyone and bathrooms worked out just fine. Plenty of refrigerator and freezer space to cater the whole wedding and rehearsal dinner. We even had room in backyard for a 30’x10’ tent and accomodated 40 guests. Everyone had a great time with a bit of a hike to the beach and a little rain but otherwise it really was perfect. Town was close enough to get the things we needed and the casino was lots of fun. Highly recommend.
