Notes on A/C, internet, noise, neighbours, etc
The house has high speed steady internet. We have tested it numerous times with our kids and had our music accounts, email, netflix, online searches and my son's game site open all at once. The 5G speed of this Eastlink service stood up well and the search times were close to the service I have at home in Hamilton. In terms of reliability, we chose Eastlink because their track record was good, and we have not had any "outages". The air conditioning is a brand new central air system (we put in a new furnace and AC system when we renovated this summer). I have not yet tested it because it is winter, but the unit is more than adequate for the house size. We have had some time to test the furnace system and it heats the house very well. We also insulated the entire house to meet new energy incentive standards and it is extremely efficient, so the units don't actually run nearly as much as mine at home. We also put in brand new windows for the same reason. In terms of noise, Highway 6 to Sauble Beach is across the creek about a city block or two away, and on a Friday night you do hear some of the car traffic, it is a "one lane each way" paved road through town, so it is nothing like hearing a 400 series highway. Because it is a village, there are two houses on the other side of the road from the house (not opposite but on each side). The neighbour to the one side is on the other side of the creek, and the neighbour on the other side is closest; their house is about 20 feet away. We have gotten to know them well and they are a stable and quiet family. The creek curls around the house (beside and behind), so the neighbours behind are on the other side of the creek. You do hear the quiet babbling of the creek at night.

Our annual visit to Shallow Lake was once again a wonderful time. So quiet and relaxing. The cottage is so convenient for trips all around the area. So clean and welcoming. Cannot recommend enough.

The property and the host were awesome. The home was clean, modern with great amenities and only 15 minute drive to Sauble beach. he host (Bettie) was wonderful, welcoming, and answered all our questions leading up to our booking. Bettie also provided a number of suggested activities to do when we were on site. We will most certainly return.

Always a highlight of our summer. Perfect location for exploring Grey/Bruce county. So relaxing to be out of the fray in Shallow Lake and a short drive to so many locations. This year we spent time at the Grey County museum and the reconstructed village there which was nice to give the kids some perspective. As always the house was impeccable. So nice that everything is so organized and clean! Can't wait to come back.

The “Creekside Cottage” is centrally located to so many awesome summer attractions and activities. The beach, kayaking at Lions Head, or on the Saugeen River, cylcling routes, hiking, and great restaurants in the nearby towns.

I would urge anyone that is considering a vacation in the vicinity of the Bruce Peninsula and surrounding areas to take a very good look at this property.
It is a fantastic, well designed, fully equipped cottage and as soon as you walk in the door and look inside the place you just know that you have made an excellent choice.
My wife and myself stayed there for 3 nights but would have been more than happy to stay for longer. I cannot think of any negative comments whatsoever to say about Creek Cottage, Bettie is an amazing host and was very quick to communicate and so kind in letting us stay a little longer than planned on our check out day.
It is a seriously good 'home from home' property and excellent value for money considering the location and sheer quality and love that has gone into this place.

Just what we needed!!
The creekside cottage had a great “in the woods” feel with all the trees and stream running through the property while having a great coffee shop a short block away. The cottage was just a few minutes to Sauble Beach and the kayaking and cycling routes we had planned. Owen Sound was also close with lots things to do there. Creekside cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed!!

Thanks Again!
We were thrilled to be able to return to Creekside Cottage for a winter week-end getaway. Again we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the cozy ambience and gorgeous views. The bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for us was also such a great welcome! And once again, our time went too fast and we were sad to have to leave so soon.

Comfort at Creekside
My friends and I were very comfortable at Creekside Cottage. It is well designed, cozy and tastefully decorated. Our favourite place in the house was the spot off the kitchen where we could curl up in an armchair with a book and a view of the running brook. A gem!

Fantastic Cottage
We had a great stay at this cottage! The cottage was clean and well set up for guests. We enjoyed being so close to the creek, and used the fire pit each night. The cottage is only 10-15 min from Sauble beach, Owen Sound, and several conservation areas. Our boys fished in Shallow Lake a few times and caught 12 fish. The general store had everything, and the coffee shop and restaurant were good as well.

Formidable !!!

Peaceful and quiet jumping point for exploring Grey-Bruce County
This was a super clean, cozy and charming cottage. The owner is very organized and easy to deal with. Shallow Lake is a quiet town, the general store and coffee shop have everything you need. We have 3 young children - we went to Sauble Beach and Story Book Park during our stay. Berford Lake (north shore) also has a great beach that is much quieter than Sauble if you're looking for a change of pace. The playground in Shallow Lake (beside the arena) is AMAZING - best playground we have ever seen and perfect for those 6 am wake ups when I needed to get the kids out of the house so my hubby could catch some more sleep.
Overall it was a great vacation - with 3 small children I wouldn't say I was relaxed (LOL) but the kids had an awesome experience. I would love to come back sans kids and make use of all the cozy reading nooks at this cottage!
FYI - you'll need to do some baby proofing when you arrive at this cottage if you have toddlers - there are lots of interesting things for them to get into and touch. : )

I would recommend this cottage to my friends and family. 😀

Quiet, Relaxing Break
The Creekside Cottage is an expanded, renovated house that is in immaculate condition. It sits beside a stream with lots of mature trees around it. My wife enjoyed her morning tea out on the deck listening to the running water. Perfect. The grounds are well taken care of. We found everything we needed in the cottage including instructions for the major appliances & lots of literature on the area. The barbeque was appreciated. Shallow Lake is a small village with few fences, friendly people and little noise. The quiet was quite noticeable at first but not hard to get used to. It was easy to communicate with Bettie & she made sure we were informed & comfortable. Access was no problem. Having never been to the area before, the location was good for visiting many different sites and hiking some sections of the major trails. Our week at this property was just what we needed at this time. Thank you. We would like to stay at the Creekside Cottage again.

Perfect getaway from city
Late August visit and loved that the cottage is located between Owen Sound and Sauble. It is so quiet and peaceful and a short drive to the beach. Made it easy to compartmentalize activities. Sleep like a dream as it was so quiet. Cottage is impeccably clean and has everything you need to relax. Thanks Bettie and Rob.

A Million Stars & Serene Setting.
Our second time at this comfortable and worry free home where you can truly relax. Very well equipped and feels like home. Visited Spirit Rock and Bruce's Caves just a short drive away. We had a lovely time.

A great mix of modern convenience and vintage character!
The perfect location and great modern conveniences fully decked out with modern appliances and a fully-equipped kitchen. Are Hostess Betty was very organized and they're readily available for communications or questions and it was very accommodating. The house was very clean and yes the rooms are a little small but it's no issue when there are so many things to do near the cottage. There was a clean BBQ and the creek in the backyard was an added bonus for both a morning coffee or an afternoon play time with the kids. You're only minutes from Sauble Beach and Owen Sound and about 1 hour from Tobermory. A great little spot and would not hesitate to book again.

Terrific summer getaway!
Our experience with this property and the owner was excellent.
The house was very clean and nicely appointed. It’s within driving distance to many attractions. I think this house would make a great getaway no matter the season as it is close to beaches, walking trails, ski trails, and shopping.
Finally, our interaction with the owner was very good. She was organized, kind, and helpful.
My husband and I would love to visit this property again.

Such a sweet yellow brick cottage with all the comforts of home awaiting you after a day out.
We enjoyed our mid-week getaway immensely. Creekside cottage has all the amenities and comforts of home with the added benefits of being close to nordic ski trails, conservation parks, Sauble and South Hampton beaches, and eclectic Owen Sound (10 to 15 min drive). Tobermory is an hour away. We enjoyed them all and want to visit again to do more exploring. Coming back to the cottage after a day out is a pleasure as you can put your feet up with a glass of wine in the sunroom off the kitchen while dinner is being cooked (or pizza being ordered - popular pizza place around the corner with a mercantile general store beside it if you need anything else (3 minute walk). There is a picnic table a bbq, and a campfire pit if you want to stay outdoors a little longer. We noticed the stars were extra bright and numerous and enjoyed hearing the gurgling of the creek as we sat outside. The 10 minute walk to Shallow Lake is a nice way to begin or end your day. We are definitely coming back with friends and family. The host is super helpful and very responsive. We highly recommend this place!

A lovely, restful location
We stayed here for a weekend in July around wedding festivities we were attending in the vicinity. Though we didn't have space in our schedule to take full advantage of the cottage or the area, we were so impressed by the tasteful excellence with which this little "home" has been renovated to suit its purpose of hosting guests. We love the area from having lived in Owen Sound previously and know that this location will allow lots of wonderful exploring of GreyBruce and the peninsula. The cottage itself is practical and well-equipped, cosy, fresh and welcoming. The creek running behind is a beautiful bonus! Your hosts are no more than a quick email away and so responsive and helpful. A beautiful little get-away spot and the butter tarts at the general store were yummy too!

Lovely place, well equipped. And the babbling brook and maple trees are the best
Thanks for the advice. We walked to mercantile and enjoyed the $2 ice cream! And we cycled the easy roads both to sauble beach and Owen Sound. We definitely want to come again. It was a relaxing place.

An amazing place to come back to afterhiking Bruce trail. Rest feet, enjoy surrounding and peace! We will definitely be back for a winter escape! Would recommend 1,000x over!

Cozy weekend get away in this wonderful place!
We had such a wonderful time at this cottage. It fit six adults just perfectly. Every thing was fresh, modern and very clean. The kitchen is equipped with everything one needs. The two bathrooms were perfect. I loved the wee sink in the powder room. The mattresses are the best! I think I'm going to buy those mattresses for my beds at home....so comfy and cozy! And the setting is perfect with a lovely stream running through the backyard. It was 5 minutes to the ski and snow shoeing place so we could enjoy the outdoors and only 12 minutes from town so we could shop and go to a concert at night at the Heartwood Hall. Don't miss the Owen Sound Artists' Co-op. We ate dinner at Casero Kitchen Table...yummy! The owners were very helpful and gave us great suggestions of where to go in town and where to eat. A lovely time was had by all and we will definitely go back!
